As we work together to know the letter better into the narrative of the book of Colossians, we travel to understand what things the Lord requires of us as we learn to apply God's timeless truths in our lives.

First, we're gonna pick it up at Colossians chapter one, starting with verse 28, which is some fascinating material having to do with the Lord wanting us to be aware that we can operate in his energy.

What next?

As we enter into chapter two of Colossians, Paul says, I want you to know how much I'm struggling for you and for those in Laodicea who have never met me face to face.

Ministry is not always face to face.

Wow.

Yeah.

The church you attend, as much as possible, you should be involved in direct human contact.

But not all ministry has that.

Paul has this ministry to the Church of Colossae, and they will never meet meet, but they will bless each other.

Kind of like radio ministry.

Whoa.

And finally, he mentions the purpose of contacting them, reaching out and being connected with them so they will be encouraged in their hearts, knit together in love and filled with the full riches of complete understanding of who we're dealing with.

This is absolutely the greatest declaration of what actually this ministry is.

This radio ministry we're doing right now to encourage and to build up to love and to share the full riches of understanding of who Jesus is.

What a blessing that we have Jennifer to keep this station going and Don to oversee everything and making sure all is well for our ministry in the program.

Isn't that awesome?

And on top of that, you might have something that's going on.

Maybe you've got something that you want to share.

The Lord's done something marvelous in your life.

Hey, we are here for that.

We want to rejoice with you.

Maybe it's something that's difficult.

Listen, we want to weep with you.

We want to be the family that God designed us to be.

And when you talk about that, you understand that getting in is very narrow.

Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.

And no man comes to the Father but by him.

John 14:6.

And if people don't like it, they can lump it.

But once you're in the kingdom, you find out that it's very spread out.

It's A body parts are the legs and the arms and the shoulders and the back, the neck and the kneecaps all the way around.

We all got this little bit of difference, but we're all connected to the head, which is Christ.

That's the big key.

So in that if you've got something that's going on and you wanna share it, or if you've got something that's going on and you just need prayer for it, or even if you got something that the Lord has just touched you with and you're like, oh, I just wanna share.

We wanna give you that opportunity.

That's why you would call, that's why you would text, that's why you would send an email.

All right, in the meantime, we're gonna start into some of our teachings as well.

We will try and do a Jake's take tomorrow.

I think that'd be a better time to do it.

But I do wanna get some teaching in, so you guys have to listen because I'm running the show, so you kinda have to listen anyway.

Here we go.

We're in Colossians 1:28.

It we proclaim him admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ.

To this end, I also labor striving, with all his energy working powerfully within me.

Wow.

All right, let's start off and get it rolling.

Just so you can understand what's taking place, Paul is in verse 28.

As we're entering this amazing territory, he says in these lessons, he says, we proclaim Jesus admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom so we may present everyone complete or perfect in Christ.

Paul is doing all this so he can present people as Complete as possible.

When the word perfect is used in the New Testament and in the Old Testament, it means complete or mature.

He's trying to get people to be mature and complete in Christ, for Christ, to Christ and with Christ.

And what's powerful about that is everything that's going on in your life.

And we've talked about it numerous times.

Salvation is past, present, and future.

Justification, sanctification, glorification.

You are saved.

The penalties of your sin have been washed away.

Praise the Lord.

It's over now.

He's making you reflect what he pronounced you to be.

You're like Jesus in my eyes.

And now God's going, and I'm going to make you look that way.

Whack, whack, whack, whack, whack, whack.

As he's molding us and changing us and gearing us to reflect Jesus, more and more and more, we have that.

We respond to this on a regular basis.

I do this, and I know some people have different theologies.

I don't dislike those people.

I just have a different take.

Here's my take.

The reason God didn't take every one of us as soon as we said yes is because he wants you to reflect Jesus Christ.

Which is why 2 Corinthians 3:18 says we're changed into his image.

Glory by glory, step by step, piece by piece, victory by victory, trial by trial.

What is it that Roger said to us earlier?

Overcoming until you get to the breakthrough?

Well, that's just like the trial.

Until the trial and to trial, glory by glory, step by step.

That's the Lord working it in us.

So we're completely justified because of the blood of Jesus Christ.

We are being sanctified through the work of the Holy Spirit so that we can reflect Jesus as a billboard for Jesus Christ wherever we go.

And at some point, we're gonna go into glorification.

And the glorification is when you're in the sweet by and by.

And there's no more essence of sin, result of sin, or anything like that.

So in justification, you're free from the penalty of sin.

In sanctification, you're free from the power of sin.

And in glorification, you'll be free from the presence of sin.

And that's how God saves people.

And what's cool about God is it just lines up with him.

Because guess what?

He always was, always is, and always will be, past, present, and future.

Hey, guess what?

You too.

Now, isn't that great?

Yes, that's great.

And that hope that is offered to us is something that's supposed to greatly encourage us.

Jesus brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.

Through the gospel that Jesus died on the cross, he was buried and three days later he rose again.

And by faith in the testimony of God, you can live forever.

That hope is offered to us.

If that hope is offered to you and you have not yet accepted, acknowledged and surrendered to it, I ask you to do so right this second.

I don't even care if you do a fancy prayer.

Just say, God save me, in Jesus name.

You will be saved.

If you believe that Jesus Christ died on that cross, was buried three days later, he rose again.

And you surrender your heart to Jesus Christ, turning from where you were and turning to him, you will find life.

Right now you might be out there thinking there's no way it can be that easy.

Wrong.

But you have to receive it.

You have to surrender to it.

You have to acknowledge God's testimony and say yes to Jesus Christ.

Doesn't matter what the world says, doesn't matter what your friends say.

It doesn't matter what any other family member says.

It only matters for your decision before God in regards to his testimony relating to Jesus Christ and your sins.

And that's the hope that is offered to us.

And we can be greatly encouraged by that.

And that hope is an anchor to our soul.

That anchor makes it so that even if the winds are heavy and the waves are intense, we don't get tossed and lost.

That there is some stability, that there is some.

There is some strength.

And you can't be like these people that have no hope.

All there is is this life and there's nothing else.

That's why they're trying to sin their brains out, because they don't think there's anything else left.

But they're going to die and face God and he's going to ask regarding his account that he's given in relationship to Jesus Christ and they're going to have to answer.

And if they have rejected, then they will be as they have placed themselves as people with no hope.

But if you're a person that has not made that decision to say yes to Jesus Christ, make that decision right now.

We think it's something that people need to understand.

D of our DNA stands for draw closer to the Lord daily, every day.

And so we've really narrowed this down.

Every day that ends in Y is some time you should spend with the guy in the sky.

That's number one.

Number two, every day that has a vowel, you should spend time with the Lord.

And then the third one, which I like the most more than any of them.

Every day that you breathe, you should spend some time with the Lord.

Draw closer to the Lord.

And it's very straightforward.

Why you will have a better life when there is more of him in your life, period.

No matter what you face or what you go through, doesn't even matter.

A better life.

When you spend time with the Lord, you want a better life, There it is.

Spend more time with God.

There it is.

Can you grasp what we're talking about here?

I think it's hard to some degree for mortal to put on immortality in thought.

And what we're talking about is the same power and energy that God used to create the universe, to speak and have the universe come to manifest.

Creating matter out of his words.

What?

What?

Raising the dead.

What?

Multiplying that which we have so that it can go for longer periods of time.

Just all those miracles that you see, not just the five loaves and the two fish, but the oil with Elijah and that it just kept filling.

It's just incredible.

Changing the chemical properties of water into wine.

What?

That's the power of God.

That's the energy of God.

That's God's power.

And it works within us.

And when we're feeling down and drained.

Hello.

We need to call upon the Lord and ask him to fill us with his energy.

And I just want to make sure you understand the word.

Energy is the same word we use for today.

So this isn't a leap.

This isn't for my son, Jared.

Son in law, Jared.

This isn't the Lambo leap.

This is pretty straightforward.

I need energy.

Guess what?

God pours his energy into people and Paul's like, I labor striving with all his energy, which works powerfully within me.

If you need energy, here's a brilliant idea.

Ask.

What is it?

Jesus said, ask and you will receive, and then your joy will be full.

Oh, well, that's a good idea.

Ask, ask, seek, knock.

I mean, he keeps telling us it's in more than one spot.

Like, wow, maybe we should do it.

Running low.

I know exactly where you need to go.

You need to drink this green stuff.

No, you don't.

You need to call upon the name of the Lord.

And whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

And, oh, by the way, the word saved also means rescued, delivered, revived.

Okay, I think we get it now.

It's coming through the Creator.

Got it.

Get it, hold onto it and don't let it slip away.

There is this pursuit in people to find happiness.

And we've just been revving up and going through the one person who had the capacity, who had the resources to do whatever he wanted to do in order to find happiness.

We find out that as Solomon, who writes the book of Ecclesiastes, tells us, he tells us all these different things that he tries.

What he's seeking to do is find what is something that drives men, what is something that drives women, what is something that drives children, people, humanity, to just keep going when everything seems vain and everything seems meaningless, or everything seems frustrating.

And so he goes through, because his resources are unlimited, if you'll keep that in mind.

He goes through a whole litany of things.

He goes through, searching in, through knowledge and wisdom, talks about that in Ecclesiastes 1:12, 14, finds out that's not the answer.

He does it in partying and drinking wine.

I lived in Temecula wine country, part of wine country in California.

Solomon had more wine than these people could ever dream of.

He talks about that in Ecclesiastes 2:1:3.

He talks about building a house, personal accomplishments, doing a garden.

He had artistic works involved.

Everything you can imagine, Solomon was doing.

I mean, he was doing it all.

He was creating gardens.

He had amassed a ton of wealth.

He had high levels of entertainment.

He had male and female singers.

The guy had more sex than any person could ever even imagine.

And he had superiority and control.

And he gets to Ecclesiastes 2.

And when he gets to Ecclesiastes 2, 10 and 11, he says, when I surveyed all that my hands had done and had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind.

Nothing was gained under the sun.

He could not reach the level of satisfaction that he was searching for.

That was his conclusion.

He poured resources.

He did this to a lot of stuff.

So he gives two hints, two declarations, I should say, not really hints to help us understand what is the answer to pursuing happiness.

Ready?

Here it is.

This is.

I'm telling you, this is the biblical answer.

There's no other.

Here it is.

Ecclesiastes 2:24 26 a a person could do nothing better than to eat, drink and find satisfaction in their toil.

This too, I see, is from the hand of God.

For without him who can eat or find enjoyment, to the person who pleases God, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness.

The answer, Solomon said, is God has to give it.

Ecclesiastes chapter 3, verse 12, 13.

I know there's nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live.

That each of them may eat and drink and find satisfaction in their toil.

This is a gift from God sometimes.

What was Paul's occupation?

Of course he was a minister and he was in ministry, but he had an occupation that supplemented.

What was that Occupation?

Acts, chapter 18, verses 1 through 3.

Let's go live big in the past.

So let's go let it fade in the past.

All right, so there's a couple of very interesting things to tell you.

I'm gonna start with the more of the dated ones.

And I think that was the beginning of the end of them being relevant.

So that would explain that.

Always seemed like this radio thing, like all the time.

And then I think many people will agree that what I'm about to tell you is one of the more important inventions in life.

Very important.

Now, the last couple things I want to say, and these are really funny, number one, it's National Candy Cane Day.

After Christmas, usually it's Candy Cane Day.

Number two is National Whiners Day.

People who are wine all the time, this is your day.

Wah, wah, wah.

I guess they needed a day.

Grab your candy cane and wine.

Grab your candy cane and wine.

But the last thing I think is the coolest one, and that is national thank you Note Day.

And you're thinking, why?

Because people would give thank you notes for their Christmas presents, stuff like that.

But no, actually I think it's cool because when I had my bar mitzvah and we had hundreds and hundreds of people, I was required by my parents before I can enjoy any of the spoils of my bar mitzvah stuff, to write thank you notes to each and every person.

You know, the last time I wrote thank you notes was my bar mitzvah thank you notes 50 years ago.

That's all I'm going to say.

You said there was 100 people there.

Hundreds of people.

So was your hand cramping by the end?

My hand was cramping when I first said dear and then started writing after that for the very first one.

And boy, talk about Winer's Day.

That's where it really came into play.

All right.

Isn't that funny?

Trivia question.

Pretty straightforward.

What was Paul's occupation along with being a minister?

Acts 18:1 3.

I say genuine.

It's like some will and some it won't.

But Colossians 2:1.

Paul writes, For I want you to know how much I am struggling for you and for those at Laodicea and for all who have not met me face to face.

Now I read that Colossians 2:1.

I want you to know how much I'm struggling for you and for those in Laodicea and all who have not met my face.

Ministry is not always face to face.

Do you understand that?

Yes.

The church that you're connected to, you should attend as much as possible because direct human involvement and contact is necessary.

But not every ministry has direct human contact.

Paul has this ministry to the Church of Colossae.

Listen.

They will never meet him, but they will continually bless each other.

I read stuff like this and I think of our ministry.

He must increase ministry.

I see him And I'll get to him in a minute.

I see that.

And then I think of the David Spoon experience, and I think, 99.8%.

I will not see any of you face to face, but we will continue to bless each other exactly like what Paul is talking about.

He's like, I want you to know how much I'm struggling for you and for those at Laodicea and all who have not met me face to face.

Not all ministry is face to face.

And in fact, I've had.

In the early days, I would watch certain Christian television and I would listen to certain Christian radio.

And those were formative, powerful moments, effective moments in my Christian walk that helped me draw closer to the Lord.

And I had never met any of those people face to face, but they blessed me nonetheless, and that I would try in turn bless them, even by more than just praying for them.

That's what the idea is when we're doing radio ministry.

So we do it live, and we know there's records where we replay.

And you would be absolutely astounded if I told you how many times a replay somebody has listened to.

And they will tell me through email or text or phone how they needed to hear that exact thing at that exact moment.

And just sitting there going, only God could coordinate that.

Nobody else.

Only God.

Colossians 2:1 is a solid stamp of approval for radio ministry.

They'll never see him face to face, but they'll all bless one another.

Get it?

How are ya?

I could use some encouragement, but I do have lots of praises, and I do have a prayer request and an answer.

Okay, let's go with the.

Answer the praises and then the prayer request.

Is that a good order?

Okay, here's the question.

The occupation of Paul, according to Acts, chapter 18, verse 1 through 3.

What was his occupation?

He was a tent maker.

That is correct.

Among you.

I just can't tell if it was like, hey, the Apostle Paul, formerly Saul's tent making.

You know, I just always wonder, how did that go?

How did he promote that?

I just want to know.

It's the Apostle Paul's tent making him.

They all gave him the business, lest anything bad happen.

I just think it's so awesome.

He could have come up with some of the best lines, right?

You need a tent?

I got a tent.

All right, let's talk about the Great job there.

Let's talk about the praises.

Well, my mom is in a rehab center, so she's doing better.

She's out of the hospital.

And really, it's quite.

It's pretty miraculous, David, because God has rescued my mom from literally from the clutches of death six times already.

Wow.

And it's a year ago today that she had the first time that she collapsed.

Wow.

And it's been all year long that we've been back and forth in the hospital.

And this last time when we were in the hospital, it really looked like she wasn't gonna make it.

And we were trying to figure out, okay, funeral plans and all this kind of stuff.

It was just very hard.

And my mom is in a rehab center now, so she's escaped the hospital again, Praise the Lord, because that is a miracle.

That is a miracle.

Right side is.

Was, like, numb.

And so now it's just her foot that is.

It's asleep.

And so she's.

But.

But you know what?

Even though it's asleep, for the first time on Saturday, she took a step and so she walked.

And she walked a little bit a few days afterwards as well.

So even that, even though she didn't have feeling, it's like, that's getting better, too.

Wow.

I mean, you guys have gotta be flipping out because you're preparing, absolutely preparing, and rightly so, for the worst.

Just, you know, everybody getting ready.

But then it's going the other direction now, and it's like, wait a minute, wait a minute.

I thought we were going this direction.

Now we're going this direction.

And the fact that she's out of the hospital, she's in rehab, and the fact that you just said she walked, it's like, she's not supposed to be walking.

We're supposed to be done.

Well, she's not done, is she?

No.

That's so awesome.

Just what a great praise.

What a great, great praise that is.

By the grace of God, the Lord has had mercy on you guys in that process, and on her as well, but on you specifically.

And what a blessing that is.

Very.

It's been a huge blessing.

And Robert's grandma, now she's sick too, and we're just finding out, like, in the last few days that she's got some kind of advanced osteoporosis.

And so it, you know.

You know the.

That movie Mr.

Glass, where you touch him and the poor man breaks?

Huh?

You know, comic books, Right?

So, yeah, so it's kind of something like that to where she's so delicate.

She can just break.

And so they're just.

They don't really know how to.

How to help her or treat her.

And, you know, any.

Anything could.

Could cause her an injury.

So that's.

Just ask for prayer for her.

Her name is Dolly.

Okay, let's pray for her.

We're going to pray for Dolly and Angelina as well as you and Robert, just because you guys are going through it and you're bearing the burden of it.

But let's pray for both of them.

Go ahead.

Can we throw in the water heater?

Because it suddenly started beeping today, too.

Can we throw in the water heater?

Yes.

Rosalind, I feel in my heart we can do this.

It's a little funnier than the other ones, but.

Okay, we'll.

Okay, let's pray.

That's brilliant, by the way.

All right, let's pray.

Father, we come before you right now.

First and foremost, we thank you for Rosalind and Robert, and we thank you for the burden that they've been bearing.

And you've given them strength yet faith in the face of fear.

They've been able to say, wait a minute.

And they still know you are in charge.

You've got things covered.

It's your will that is to be done, not the will of mankind.

But it's thy kingdom come, thy will be done.

And that's what they're living by.

And so first, we're going to just preach straightforward.

Lord, water heaters are expensive.

They could use some help.

They could use a break.

Maybe you can just send them a little deliverance on that issue.

But the pressing two issues are Dolly and Angelina.

And, Lord, for Dolly and for her sake, she's in a very tough place, overly delicate, to touch and to break.

And that's a hard thing, a hard place to be.

It's not just hard for Rosalind, Robert.

It's hard for Dolly.

So we are asking for grace and for mercy and for healing and for touch and for comfort and for peace and for the kingdom of God to manifest in her life and that she would absolutely be touched by your spirit, the same Holy spirit that raised Jesus from the dead to bring restoration into her body to help her, to move her past this place.

Lord, we already thank you for Angelina, how you've done so many awesome things.

She's maybe making progress nobody anticipated.

Just like we prayed for Noah earlier in the show.

Bring her all the way.

Don't leave her off.

Just with that little bit left to go, bring her all the way into full deliverance, not just short of the goal.

But past the goal.

And we ask you just to bring peace and comfort for Robert and for Rosalind, who are carrying the burden.

We are asking for abundance of grace, abundance of comfort, abundance of confidence, deliverance from fear and from the enemy.

And we are asking that you would touch Angelina fully and completely and lift up Dolly and don't let her be in that place.

And, Lord, they could use help with the water heater.

You can help them with that.

But we ask you to bless them as a family and comfort them and love on them and let them be loved and receive your love.

We lift them up before you and we pray in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and our Savior.

Amen.

Okay, let's finish off in this Colossians thing.

I don't want you to miss this, because this, too, is also cool.

So, Paul, when he's talking to the Church of colossae, verse chapter 2, verse 1.

To the Colossians, it says, for I want you to know how much I am struggling for you and for those that lay unto sea, and those who have not met me face to face.

Listen to this.

Verse 2.

That they may be encouraged in heart, knit together in love, and filled with the full riches of complete understanding, so they may know the mystery of God, namely Christ.

I just want to back this up to what Paul is talking about, what he's trying to accomplish, because we're going to deal with the mystery of Christ next week.

But I want you to hear what he's saying.

The reason that he wants to minister and he wants to be connected to the people is because he wants them to be encouraged in heart and knit together in love and filled with the full riches of the understanding of who Jesus is.

Think of that.

Okay?

He's reaching out to them and connecting.

So they'll be encouraged in Their heart.

Do you not think?

I read this and I go, gosh, that's kind of like what we try to do, knit together in love.

I love that that's the connector, that it's loving one another, bearing with one another, helping one another, caring about one another, laughing with one another, crying with one another.

All of that filled with the full riches of complete understanding of who it is we're dealing with.

Do you know who you're dealing with?

I often forget that Jesus is who he is in his glory.

Remember, he said to the disciples, let's go across to the other side.

And they said, okey dokey.

And they got in the boat and that boat got swamped.

And they were like, wake up, we're dying.

This isn't happening.

And then Jesus rebukes the wind and he rebukes the waves, and he turns to the disciples and he said, why did you have no faith?

It's just such an amazing story.

Because, you know, they're all like going, well, we were about to drown and there was a lot of water and there was a lot of wind.

And why are you asking this?

But the reason is because they didn't realize who it was who said, let's go over to the other side.

It was Jesus, the son of the living God, through whom all creation came to existence through him.

That's who said, let's go to the other side.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

Even if they had to go over as a submarine, they were going over because the Son of the living God said, we're going over there and we need to understand who we're dealing with.

So I love that because from a ministry point of view, and for what we try to do at Hmim, which is he must increase ministry.

And the David Spoon experience is we try.

Now, we're not doing this the way that Paul did this.

There's a few people that did it the way Paul did it, but we have this similar connect.

It's like we really, really, really want to encourage people.

We do want to build one another up, love each other, and get to a place where we have a better understanding of who Jesus is.

Because if each and every one of us had a better understanding of who Jesus is, it would not just make for a better life for us, it would make a better life for everybody who's connected to us ever.

It's like those are just absolutely brilliant principles to want to do the ministry by and yeah, we do.

Sometimes we have it really good and sometimes not as good.

And we make mistakes.

Believe me, I make more mistakes.

All you have to do is have my wife testify in a court of law to find out how many mistakes I make.

She does pull out a calculator and start going down the list.

Here's what I'm trying to tell you.

Look, this is what we should be doing for one another, even if we don't see each other.

This is why you should pray for one another.

This is why you should bear with each other and help each other to encourage, to build up and to participate in the full understanding of who Jesus is.

There is nothing better because then we are living the kingdom life and we are fulfilling that which God has set before us.
