Before you read further:

Please be aware that Kyle and I had some connection issues at the start of our conversation about life after sport. He was using his phone to make the recording and he started receiving several phone calls which caused the line to drop a few times. After switching to his laptop it ran smoothly. So please do bear with us for the first 10 minutes or so.

My Guest:

Kyle Brown is a retired professional rugby player who is most well known for captaining the Springbok 7s team (the Blitzbokke). After intentionally moving away from rugby he identifies more with his role as father, husband and business co-founder now (If you enjoy a daily fix of caffeine please support his budding coffee business: 18 Coffee).

In this conversation, Kyle and I discuss his unconventional start to professional rugby and the lessons he has learned along the way. For those of you who are aspiring professional athletes or currently play professional sports, I urge you to listen right through to the end. It will help you understand the pressure that top level athletes experience and why you should prepare for a life after sport. Planning your career after sport is vitally important before you retire. Don't leave it too late!

Kyle’s extended time playing 7s rugby as a professional has given him unique insights to both the upsides and downsides of that lifestyle. His continuing work with Reboot is a declaration of his commitment to help athletes struggling to come to terms with the end of their

professional sports careers.

Key Takeaways for the listeners:

This combination of experiences makes him the perfect person to learn from when it comes to:

1) designing competitive environments within teams to improve performance,

2) understanding how to align your aspirations with the teams’ goals,

3) dealing with the harsh realities of transitioning away from a sportsperson.

This conversation is really eye opening for prospective sportspeople. I hope it helps you make an informed decision along your journey to success.

If you need help navigating the transition from a career in sports into the working world, reach out to Reboot. They can help you prepare for this inevitable change.
