Before you set a single 2026 goal, I need you to stop.
This isn’t your typical “get ready for the new year, new you” pep talk. This is your preparation conversation.
You can’t carry what God has for you next year with the mindset, habits, and identity that kept you stuck this year.
In this episode, we’re flipping the script. We’re not starting with a color-coded Erin Condren planner — we’re starting with the posture of a woman who’s ready to become.
“Seek first the Kingdom…” (Matthew 6:33)
“You are a new creation.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:2)
“He will finish what He started in you.” (Philippians 1:6)
“Vision without identity will crush you.”
“You’re not behind — you’re being built.”
Put the planner down. Pick up your journal. Ask the Lord:
Your becoming is the strategy.
Next week, we’re getting real practical — I’ll walk you through how to actually build habits that support who you’re becoming. Don’t miss it.
Until then, friend — don’t just do more. Become her.

r first step in preparing for:
It's asking God who He is calling you to become. And trust me, when I say that this question, it changes everything. Truth time. When's the last time you raised your hands for a swift kick in the pants?
Well, I'm the no nonsense type friend who's going to tell you when you have food in your teeth. So let's get right to it. This is your infusion of sacred and secular, calling you higher into who God created you to be, exploring how intimately faith applies to every part of your life and how you can live that faith every single day in the marketplace.
I felt the tension of separation of church and state. I've been one of the few women at a table of men for decades and I've stood my ground. Are you ready to do the same? These tools, resources and interviews are meant to do just that.
I'm Jan Touchberry and it's time to share her faith at work. Hey, hey friends, welcome back to her faith at work. If you are new here, welcome. My name is Jan Touchbury and I am the host of the show. And I am so glad that you have decided to join us.
If you are not new here, you know that this is the time in every episode that I tell you to get on the email list if you're not there already, because you're missing out people. You're missing out. It's super easy to subscribe.
You're just going to go to Jan Touchbury. It's just like it sounds. T-O-U-C-H-B-E-R-R-Y dot com slash newsletter. You're going to get subscribed and I promise you that there is added. value. This is not just a repeat of what you're hearing on the podcast.
It is new things, new value, new resources, new things that I'm loving. And I'm getting feedback from the people who are on the email list that they love it. So I would love to have you there with us.
Uh, I hope you'll go do that today, janetouchberry.com slash newsletter. So today on the podcast, we are not going to talk about goal setting, at least not in the way you're used to today. We're going to talk about becoming.
I know that's not usually the first place that your mind goes. Most of us start with what should I do to become fill in the blank? What do I need to do to become successful? What do I need to do to become healthy?
Or what do I need to do to change my financial landscape? Right. And while there's typically always an action, some sort needed, I want to flip the focus word in those sentences today. And instead of do, I want to focus on become.
cause before you map out your:
You need to ask, who do I need to become to carry what God is calling me to do next. This is not just a mindset shift, although yes, that is part of it. It's a spiritual realignment, because it doesn't matter how pretty your goals look on paper, if you are not spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and or physically prepared to hold them, let alone live them out.
I think all of us as believers probably have heard this verse, Matthew 6 33 says, but seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and then all of these things will be added to you. I will leave it up to you to go back and read the first part of Matthew six so that you can understand the context.
The point is, though, we've got to be seeking the kingdom of God first, not in the midst of it. Oh, yeah, we should probably ask the Lord what to do. No, no, no, seek Him first, and then keep seeking and keep seeking.
We're not skipping the planning, we're just reordering it. We have to seek Him first, becoming who He's calling us to be before we build and continuing the becoming as we build alongside Him. So personally speaking, I've been asking the Lord to take me to the next level in my life and business that really is just something that's ingrained in me to my core.
It's kind of the way that I roll. I almost always want to go to the next level, go higher, go deeper, go farther. And you know what He keeps highlighting to me? My body. Hm, yep, not the perfect launch strategy, not the next sales funnel, not another content calendar, my body.
As in, Jan, if you would like to go further, I'm happy to take you there, but you've got to steward the vessel I gave you. And here's the kicker, I kept putting it off for a long time. I put it off, sound familiar?
Yeah, it's so easy to say I'll deal with that after I hit XYZ milestone. But God say, no, no, no, you're missing the point. This is the milestone, this is the work. And if I'm totally honest, I think I used to be there.
I used to not really feel like that was something that I needed to become because I was already there. I was concentrating on my temple, my vessel of the Holy Spirit. But through life circumstances, I have fallen off that wagon.
And I got to get back on, but if I'm honest, I think there's shame involved. Um, there's probably fear of the hard, um, in some ways I think. And I just don't, it's not something that I really want to do.
Cause I'm not going to enjoy the process. I'm not one of the people who love spending time in the gym or, you know, doing all the physical things. I just, I don't, and I'm a, I'm a picky eater. So I'm like, God, why are you asking me to do this?
Why? So y'all know I love data, right? So I went in for my annual checkup a few months ago and my doctor ran a ton of blood work. Great. Bring it on. I love all the data, right? Most of it looked really good.
And I'm the type of person that I, I look at the thing, uh, the report, I want to see all green because green equals good. Yeah. But one test, one test came back flagged. It was red and it signaled that I had inflammation in my body.
Now I have known for years that gluten was not serving my body well, but the red line on the lab report was the Holy Spirit's highlighter to me. My doctor put me on a 28 day detox and y'all, it was one of the hardest things I've ever done, but I felt the Lord saying now is the time.
So I did it and I finished it and I've been gluten free for over 60 days. Now I'm going on 80 days. Super excited about that. Rejoice with me, if you will. Uh, not easy, but I was proud of myself for actually getting it done.
And that was just the starting line. It was a small step toward becoming the healthiest version of me that the Lord is calling me to. And so now I can go where he's calling me next. This is not only me serving the Lord, but it's serving, it's me serving the future me, the one who I am sure after she stops mourning the loss of bread.
We'll be very grateful that I did it. Now the world tells us, if I do enough, I'll have enough, and then I'll finally be enough. But that is not the kingdom. That's not the gospel, and that, friends, is a straight up lie.
John Bloom put it this way, go do be. It sounds inspiring, but it's actually toxic in most scenarios, and I can't tell you how many times I've heard that, even in religious settings, go do be. It's a virus in our spiritual operating system, because when we live that way, we're building identity on performance and not presence.
But Jesus flips that model. He says, be, do, have. Seek first the kingdom, then all the things will be added to you. That was my paraphrase, by the way. You already are a daughter of the Most High. So you do what he's called you to do out of identity, not to earn it, you're already it.
And from that obedience, you receive the fruit that he has appointed for you. In 2 Corinthians 5, 17, he talks about us being a new creation. Romans 12, 2 is, be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
, let's talk about:You need a plan. But listen, vision without identity is going to crush you. And I think we see this throughout scripture. God says, Moses delivered my people. And Moses says, but I'm not a good speaker.
Jesus tells the rich young ruler, sell everything you have and follow me. And he walks away because his identity was wrapped up in his stuff. What if they had reframed their identity and done what the Lord had asked as he asked without arguing?
Sure, Moses delivered the people from Egypt, but not in the way God originally asked him to. And I think that that ultimately made it a lot harder. It's like this, I would like to become a hiker. I dream about exploring God's creation on foot through mountains and canyons and quiet trails.
And I've done some, what I would consider beginner hiking, but right now I am not prepared to hike the ribbon canyons in Zion national park, which is a goal. I'm not prepared yet. I've got some becoming to do first.
I've got some habits to break. I've got some muscles to build. I've got some strength to gain and I've got some new habits to put in place. And if I try to... tackle that goal today it would probably be a little bit of a disaster.
So what do I do? I ask the experts what I need to become and what I have to do to do that so that I am eventually the person who can complete that hike. I can't just start doing things without knowing what the becoming goal is.
Doesn't make any sense. And spiritually speaking God is the expert in you before you build the funnel, before you pitch the offer, before you plan the next thing, or before you write the goal, sit with the Lord.
the vision you have for me in:And who do I need to become to walk that out? Ask him what mindset shift needs to happen. Ask what habits need to die. Ask, Lord, what am I holding on to that's weighing me down? I do really miss bread, by the way, but it's not weighing me down anymore.
Ask him what version of me can't carry what's next. This is the heart check before you get after it. And I'm gonna ask you some hard questions because that's kind of my thing. Are you chasing goals that your character or your body can't carry?
Are you planning as your current self instead of your called self? And what's taking a backseat in your life that God keeps nudging forward? Maybe like me, it's your body. Maybe it's your emotional health.
Maybe it's your spiritual rhythm or your family connection. Whatever it is, hear me loud and clear. Your becoming is the strategy. Your becoming is the strategy. Friend, I want you to feel free from the pressure to have to have a color-coded 50-point plan by next week.
Instead, I wanna invite you to ask the much deeper question, who is God forming me into and will I conform to his plan for me? Yes, you will plan. Yes, you will set goals, but the starting point is not your planner.
It's your posture on your knees before the one who made you. You need to thank him for how far he's brought you and then ask him to walk beside you on the road to becoming that girl, the one who is fully aligned and fully surrendered and fully equipped for whatever he has next.
I really hope that this episode has served you well and maybe even inspired you just a little. Don't miss next week's episode because we're going to build on this. We're going to get real practical, and I'm talking about how to build habits that actually support who you're becoming.
You do not want to miss it. It's going to be great, and until then, ask for the vision. Ask who you need to become, and start becoming her today. You got this, friend. You're not behind. You're just being built, so let's go.
