In this mini episode of Sharing the Middle, we read an essay from the middle, give some unsolicited advice, and share some Lacey loves.
The essay is called "Ending of a Comfortable Middle," and it's all about how I learned to tune into my body and find acceptance in the process of dealing with health challenges. I talk about why labels can be both helpful and limiting, and how I'm learning to find peace in the messy middle of life.
For the Advice From The Mddl segment, I talk about the importance of trying even when it's scary, and how progress is not always linear. And in my Lacey loves, I share some of my favorite Amazon products for home automation and organization, as well as my partnership with Happy Curves.

Welcome to sharing the middle where recovering perfectionist overachievers.
Lacey:And anyone in the middle of a struggle come together to learn, to
Lacey:embrace the messy middles of life.
Lacey:I'm Lacy your friend in the middle of guide whose claim to fame this
Lacey:week is launching her second podcast.
Lacey:No shaman own game.
Lacey:Go check it out.
Lacey:The first episode is.
Lacey:The episode before this one in the middle of feed as well.
Lacey:So like share, subscribe, rate, review, follow all of the things.
Lacey:Today we have a mini episode, which means that we're going to read an essay from the
Lacey:middle, do a little advice from the middle and then jump into some Lacey loves.
Lacey:So let's make it happen, friends.
Lacey:This week's essay from the middle.
Lacey:It's called ending of a comfortable middle.
Lacey:At the beginning of the middle, I skirted around talking about my
Lacey:symptoms and potential diagnoses.
Lacey:I never wanted to have to go back and say, just kidding.
Lacey:I'm fine.
Lacey:This was all just me being dramatic.
Lacey:I was going to doctors weekly new diagnosis.
Lacey:I was thrown out left and right as possibilities.
Lacey:Only to be eliminated about a week or two later with another normal test result.
Lacey:It was overwhelming, confusing and just.
Lacey:Far too much.
Lacey:I scheduled out a few more difficult to get into appointments.
Lacey:Realize they were months away.
Lacey:And decided to take a break.
Lacey:I needed a break from the constant recapping of what was going on.
Lacey:I needed a break from the disappointing news.
Lacey:I just needed a break.
Lacey:Did you know, breaks can actually work.
Lacey:I started the break with the sheer determination of not seeming
Lacey:lazy, which looking back at it now is so unhelpful, come on, man.
Lacey:I set up intense trackers of my symptoms and moods.
Lacey:I would conduct many experiments on what I ate certain things, or when I took
Lacey:certain medicines and truly see fashion, I lost the interest pretty quickly.
Lacey:When there didn't appear to be concrete answers.
Lacey:Over time.
Lacey:I started to actually tune into my body.
Lacey:I started to understand my energy envelopes better and how to pace myself.
Lacey:I started to think in less terms of absolutes and definitive answers.
Lacey:Like gut instinct and feelings.
Lacey:I learned that if I listened to an honored my body, Not forcing it
Lacey:all the time to bend to my will.
Lacey:It would give me more, this probably sounds flighty and confusing.
Lacey:And the reality is, I don't know how to explain it.
Lacey:I would love to be able to give you a detailed list or instructions
Lacey:on what I mean, but I can't.
Lacey:I need to stop trying to impose a system of logic on my body.
Lacey:Instead.
Lacey:I have to come to a place of letting it be.
Lacey:And just listening to it.
Lacey:I have not reached answers.
Lacey:It is still something that I'm learning about day to day, but I have fallen
Lacey:into a healthy and respectful rhythm.
Lacey:Why is my body?
Lacey:Labels are powerful.
Lacey:As I write, I'm realizing that this middle has given me the space to not label.
Lacey:This may be way I have been struggling to write over the past few weeks.
Lacey:I would rather not narrate or over analyze my current state.
Lacey:by attempting to label or give something a name, we're putting it into a box.
Lacey:We are defining it.
Lacey:Just give me great and sometimes very helpful.
Lacey:For example, by allowing myself the label of disabled I've created space in
Lacey:my world for the help and accommodations that have made my life easier to live.
Lacey:I'm grateful for this label.
Lacey:The process of getting a diagnosis is just the process of getting a label.
Lacey:That label will enable me to talk to other people a bit
Lacey:easier about what is going on.
Lacey:And may even enable me to get more help in the future.
Lacey:Here are the drawbacks though.
Lacey:One, my body is going through what it is going through with, or without that label.
Lacey:Too.
Lacey:The label is still made up.
Lacey:I've learned more than ever.
Lacey:That diagnosis is a very human process.
Lacey:And it's not as scientific proof as we tend to see it.
Lacey:It is in three.
Lacey:It is someone else's label for me.
Lacey:And with that comes expectations.
Lacey:And baggage.
Lacey:I fear that label will impede on this little Oasis of comfort and power.
Lacey:I have curated in this, in between time.
Lacey:Not wanting to see the end.
Lacey:As they say all good things must come to an end.
Lacey:those far off doctor's appointments are actually approaching now.
Lacey:And.
Lacey:Frankly, I'm uneasy.
Lacey:Typically when I discussed the middle, I'm referring to this place.
Lacey:I find discontent and frustration.
Lacey:Yeah, here.
Lacey:As a place I've found comfort and solace.
Lacey:I've learned to find true acceptance and found peace in the process.
Lacey:It is what I've been striving for when it comes to the phrase.
Lacey:Embracing the messy middles of life.
Lacey:I'm still going to go to my appointments and try to figure out how to bring
Lacey:this new piece into my diagnosis.
Lacey:Stay tuned.
Lacey:Instead of advice from the middle of today in the traditional sense
Lacey:where I read a listener letter,
Lacey:I'm going to give unsolicited advice today.
Lacey:And it's something that I learned yesterday.
Lacey:So today's July 5th and yesterday it was July 4th.
Lacey:And I.
Lacey:Was only able to go to one of our July 4th.
Lacey:Celebrations.
Lacey:And the one that I went to.
Lacey:Was the right one.
Lacey:For me because.
Lacey:I knew I would have the accommodations I needed.
Lacey:To be successful.
Lacey:I was lucky that my dear friend Alex lives on a parade route.
Lacey:So my kids and husband and I could all go together.
Lacey:And they could go outside and watch the parade.
Lacey:And I go watch the parade from inside.
Lacey:And also be a secondary person for when.
Lacey:One of them got too hot needed to come inside.
Lacey:I'm going to give some unsolicited advice.
Lacey:Two.
Lacey:Anyone who feels.
Lacey:Like they're a burden or too much.
Lacey:Or anybody who wants to support someone who, you know, feels that way.
Lacey:I am so thankful that I.
Lacey:Have that friend.
Lacey:I've Alex who you've all heard from before.
Lacey:To be able to.
Lacey:Understand where I'm coming from.
Lacey:Say, Hey.
Lacey:If you do need to go lay down in a quiet space.
Lacey:This is a space you can go to.
Lacey:And I share all that because I was afraid to go.
Lacey:I was afraid.
Lacey:But I still went.
Lacey:And I am proud of myself for going.
Lacey:And I've been having a lot of.
Lacey:Thoughts about how.
Lacey:I'm nervous about a lot of things now.
Lacey:I drove for the first time on Saturday morning.
Lacey:And then crashed.
Lacey:Later that day into the next day.
Lacey:Not great.
Lacey:Crashed.
Lacey:Like health wise, not with my car.
Lacey:Not, I didn't crash in the car.
Lacey:I need to be clear.
Lacey:. I share all of this, just to say that.
Lacey:It was scary.
Lacey:It wasn't driving was fine.
Lacey:I went and picked up our Kroger order or grocery order.
Lacey:It was fine.
Lacey:But I did have this moment.
Lacey:On Saturday and Sunday where I was like, maybe I need to stop trying so hard.
Lacey:Maybe I just need to accept.
Lacey:That I can't drive anymore, then I can't go places.
Lacey:And then I was able.
Lacey:To pick myself up.
Lacey:And try again.
Lacey:By going to Alex's for this 4th of July parade.
Lacey:And it worked.
Lacey:It's just so important to remember.
Lacey:That progress is not linear.
Lacey:That if you want something.
Lacey:Even it's scary.
Lacey:It's worth it to keep trying.
Lacey:Hopefully that made any semblance of sense I'm having a bit of a morning here.
Lacey:I spilled my coffee.
Lacey:Certain things are just not functioning the way that they should be.
Lacey:But, you know what.
Lacey:It's okay.
Lacey:It is O K.
Lacey:And I'm going to keep pushing forward.
Lacey:And I hope you do too.
Lacey:Welcome to Lacey loves.
Lacey:As usual, this is my most unplanned segment.
Lacey:Which means that I have a tendency to ramble.
Lacey:And you're just going to get unfiltered Lacey.
Lacey:Welcome.
Lacey:The water's fine.
Lacey:Next week is Amazon prime day and I'm an Amazon influencer
Lacey:and be D no big deal here.
Lacey:but I have talked to him here about how much I love home automation
Lacey:and I use Amazon products for that.
Lacey:I also just do a lot of shopping on Amazon because they deliver
Lacey:for free to my house, which.
Lacey:I know it's a big, scary.
Lacey:Corporation.
Lacey:But that is accessibility for me.
Lacey:So I'm going to go through.
Lacey:And put together some link lists of different things that we
Lacey:have really use from an Amazon.
Lacey:both of my children have an Amazon fire tablet.
Lacey:. I'll be honest, the interface.
Lacey:Isn't that great when you're used to apple products, but once you
Lacey:get past that, You can just control so much of what is on there.
Lacey:Basically at this point on Iris's we just have her.
Lacey:Able to watch baby shark over and over again.
Lacey:She also watches Peppa pig, and somehow constantly has changing the.
Lacey:Language to different languages and Joe, and I don't understand how she keeps
Lacey:doing it, but she does, but that's fine.
Lacey:She thinks it's cool.
Lacey:really it's just a baby shark machine and that's all we need right now.
Lacey:Isaac.
Lacey:Plays games.
Lacey:So he's, he has a little gamer.
Lacey:you can have like screen time that you limit on it to shut off at a certain time.
Lacey:So no matter your parenting philosophy.
Lacey:you can customize it, which is really nice.
Lacey:And there's just so many different things on there for kids.
Lacey:that is one recommendation that I am going to make.
Lacey:The other thing is home automation with.
Lacey:I'm not going to say her name, but ALX CA.
Lacey:So all the different, echoes, whether it's dots.
Lacey:We use that heavily in our house.
Lacey:Turning on and off lights, we can lock doors.
Lacey:The biggest thing for us though.
Lacey:There is something beeping.
Lacey:And I don't know what it is.
Lacey:It is on my side of the bed.
Lacey:I'm pretty sure.
Lacey:And I don't know when it happens.
Lacey:It just started yesterday.
Lacey:And that's just an aside.
Lacey:Okay.
Lacey:Sorry.
Lacey:It beeped.
Lacey:And now I don't know what to do with myself.
Lacey:I will find the beeping.
Lacey:What was I talking about?
Lacey:Oh, okay.
Lacey:We also do our, grocery lists.
Lacey:Like we can yell out.
Lacey:Hey, add this to the grocery list and then it syncs with an app on our phone.
Lacey:And honestly, that has been a huge thing for Joe and I to
Lacey:keep track of grocery lists.
Lacey:The list that we use is called any list.
Lacey:We do pay for a subscription every year.
Lacey:But it's totally worth it to be able to do that.
Lacey:And then once you have a grocery list, you can export it directly
Lacey:into some online order pickups.
Lacey:So we live near a Kroger and we export it into the online.
Lacey:Pickup for Kroger.
Lacey:if technology can make my life like.
Lacey:A, percent easier I can and will use it.
Lacey:And that's what that is for us.
Lacey:Trying to think what else.
Lacey:That I am like.
Lacey:Heavily.
Lacey:th that you can really only get on Amazon.
Lacey:Cause then there are a lot of things that I just get on Amazon.
Lacey:Because, like I said, the convenience, so my little desk, or
Lacey:really my entire podcasting set up lots of organizational materials.
Lacey:All of that is coming from Amazon.
Lacey:I'll be putting together some lists and stuff.
Lacey:Okay.
Lacey:Aye.
Lacey:Is it my watch.
Lacey:Hold on.
Lacey:I think it might be my watch.
Lacey:Okay.
Lacey:Let's try it out.
Lacey:maybe my watches.
Lacey:Sound turned down.
Lacey:Or maybe.
Lacey:I'm hearing things, which I will never real out.
Lacey:Okay.
Lacey:I will say it started after my mom and sister were here.
Lacey:They are wonderful and came to help me.
Lacey:Clear out.
Lacey:Some things donate, things that have been needed to be terminated for a while.
Lacey:I wonder if something came into this room and I didn't realize it.
Lacey:This is.
Lacey:Riveting stuff.
Lacey:I know.
Lacey:All right.
Lacey:The other thing is I'm really excited that I'm partnering with happy curves.
Lacey:I'm getting more of their products in the coming week.
Lacey:And so I'll be talking a little bit more about them.
Lacey:Probably on my next podcast.
Lacey:Oh, along with ads that you'll probably hear because.
Lacey:That's cool.
Lacey:All right.
Lacey:I think that's enough.
Lacey:Ramblin Lacey.
Lacey:The other thing that I do want to say is that no shame in
Lacey:the home game has premiered.
Lacey:As I mentioned the beginning.
Lacey:I was talking to Sarah and I just talked about how I'm protective of
Lacey:this first episode that we released.
Lacey:Because it's so joyful.
Lacey:It's just me and Sarah talking.
Lacey:We will be meeting with participants.
Lacey:over the next few weeks and you'll hear their stories told.
Lacey:Over time.
Lacey:But.
Lacey:I just really love this episode with me and Sarah, or we're
Lacey:talking about our experiences.
Lacey:And how we got to know shaman the home game and what it is and our vision.
Lacey:So it's joyful.
Lacey:There's laughter it's great.
Lacey:And there's Indy.
Lacey:If you can hear him.
Lacey:Coming up to join me.
Lacey:I hope you have a fantastic week.
Lacey:And we'll see you soon.
