If you have ever been part of the DEI space as a practitioner, there is A LOT of persuading that happens. Trying to persuade clubs, organizations, companies and institutions to believe that DEI work is necessary takes time. Making the case is tiring and often, time is better spent doing - rather than convincing someone that doing is the right choice.
Centering their conversation around this notion that persuasion may be a waste of time, Shaunna and Lisa equate DEI to integral organization fundamentals. Like innovation, integrity, and resilience, DEI needs to be understood as a fundamental aspect of any organization. From there, DEI practitioners can spend their time creating change - rather than persuading people that such changes are appropriate and necessary.
