Joy Is Not Dependent On Things – Wisdom Unplugged

Thank you for joining us today as we explore wisdom on our 2nd millennium of podcasts. This is Day 1530 of our Trek, and it is time for our 3-minute mini trek called Wisdom Unplugged. This short nugget of wisdom includes an inspirational quote with a little bit of additional content for today’s trek. Consider this your vitamin supplement of wisdom for today. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from A. P. Gouthey, and it is: Joy is a deep spiritual union with the unchanging God. A man’s life, said Jesus Christ, is not fulfilled, nor is it filled full of, nor by, the abundance of things which he possesses. Here is one of the most important statements ever given to a bewildered, heart-hungry world. Joy, then, is a living spring hidden deep in the inner life that is no more dependent upon things than the sunrise is dependent upon a cock’s crowing.
Joy Is Not Dependent On Things
Everyone seeks joy, but we often look for it in the wrong places. We think that riches, pleasant circumstances, a life void of crises, and getting what we desire will bring us joy. Joy is not dependent on what happens to us. Joy is not dependent on our relationships with our spouse, children, friends, or associates. Joy can only be found in one relationship that supersedes all other relationships. Pure joy can only be obtained through a deep spiritual union with the unchanging God. God, the creator of all things, including creating each one of us to be His imagers, is the only one that can provide unending joy to our lives, regardless of our situation or circumstance.
Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.
