1 Cor 12:8-10

To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit,9. to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10.to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues (languages) and to still another the interpretation of tongues (languages).

1.Praising in other languages.

Acts 1:5,8

5 For John baptized with[a] water, but in a few days you will be baptized with[b] the Holy Spirit.” 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

2.Speaking only to God

1 Cor 14:2

For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit.

Romans 8:26-28

Also, the Spirit helps us. We are very weak, but the Spirit helps us with our weakness. We don’t know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit himself speaks to God for us. He begs God for us, speaking to him with feelings too deep for words. (27) God already knows our deepest thoughts. And he understands what the Spirit is saying, because the Spirit speaks for his people in the way that agrees with what God wants. (28) We know that in everything God works for the good of those who love him. These are the people God chose, because that was his plan

3.Building self up in your most Holy faith.

Jude 1:20

But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faithand praying in the Holy Spirit,

4.Tongues and interpretation is a sign for the unbelievers. Prophecy is a message for the church.

1 Cor 14:22-25

Tongues, then, are a sign, not for believers but for unbelievers; prophecy, however, is not for unbelievers but for believers. (23) So if the whole church comes together and everyone speaks in tongues, and inquirers or unbelievers come in, will they not say that you are out of your mind? (24) But if an unbeliever or an inquirer comes in while everyone is prophesying, they are convicted of sin and are brought under judgment by all, (25) as the secret sof their hearts are laid bare. So they will fall down and worship God, exclaiming, “God is really among you!”

1 Cor 14:4-5

Anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves, but the one who prophesies edifies the church. (5) I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be edified.

5.Everything in order in the church (1 Cor 14:39-40)

My spirit praying and praising God in a language I never learnt.

1 Cor 14:18-19

I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you. (19) But in the church I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue.

3.Acts 8:14-19

- Samaritans - What did they experience? Something very powerful.

When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to Samaria. (15) When they arrived, they prayed for the new believers there that they might receive the Holy Spirit. (16)because the Holy Spirit had not yet come on any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. (17)Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. (18) When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money (19) and said, “Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.
