I was at church this morning and someone mentioned the clock and I was like, oh, was It's it?

Speaker:

A hardeny.

Speaker:

I've it and change it.

Speaker:

Yeah, which is normally what happens.

Speaker:

Speaker:

I think that's it, isn't it?

Speaker:

That's all good.

Speaker:

That's all good.

Speaker:

Now, it sounds great.

Speaker:

It was about to, like, think, like, symbol.

Speaker:

No, don't let me stop you don't let me interrupt that would be wrong on so many levels so every week a techish year and The the other thing that's going on this week Matt just to highlight we do have occasional tech issues here on the crowd is the camera this front camera here It is zoomed in and I don't normally we've got a bit more space and so today we have enough I feel like I need to do this just to stay in shot so that's That's it why the top of my head is missing.

Speaker:

It's not because of bad camera framing.

Speaker:

Just not figured out the whole why it zoomed in thing.

Speaker:

I just I genuinely I have no idea.

Speaker:

Just wanted to do what it's going to do.

Speaker:

So it is what it is.

Speaker:

So yes, right, should we play Dave's talk?

Speaker:

Let's do it.

Speaker:

Let's play Dave's talk and then share and I will be back for conversation street as Dave's talking It's quite a short talk stay and what was it eight minutes eight and nine minutes something like that so we can have a a bit more of a conversation street.

Speaker:

So do you get ready with your thoughts in your comments and throw them in on the YouTube and then Sharon and I'll be back shortly.

Speaker:

So So let me press this button here, we'll see in a second.

Speaker:

Today we're going to be looking at Acts chapter 18.

Speaker:

versus 1 to 28th.

Speaker:

And I'd like just to encourage you to take the time to read these verses This is true for yourself.

Speaker:

I only have a sure time to reference part of the story today.

Speaker:

Paul is winding down his second missionary journey.

Speaker:

He establishes a great way in the city of Corinth.

Speaker:

The right Instead of the Bucho Bax's look, and in chapter 18 he shares with some very personal experiences of Paul.

Speaker:

from which we can relate, and learn, and take some real compass.

Speaker:

A view of a Becom this the scourage while you're trying to save God, or even just trying to live the Christian life.

Speaker:

That can be It's off in itself.

Speaker:

We even get discouraged at times.

Speaker:

We all have our struggles regardless of who we are.

Speaker:

And here we read the greater possible Paul, even he had struggles.

Speaker:

Paul must more have slightly been a great man.

Speaker:

encountered the negative attitude of people, criticism and the lack of appreciation, the feeling of of being unproductive and just playing an old exhaustion and weariness.

Speaker:

These were likely some of i the wedi sì Pinterest i fel unallu rh ис eithan会au siors adde imişimau.

but when they resisted and blasphemed, he shook his robe and told them, you will Blood be is on your own heads.

Speaker:

Speaker:

From now on, I will go to the Gentiles.

Speaker:

Like a reception in Athens, Causes Paul to travel 55 miles from Athens to Corinth.

Speaker:

Here He observes idolatry and the continued hostility from the Jews is on people.

Speaker:

Paul clearly became discouraged as he began his way here in Corinth.

Speaker:

Observe the verses in 9 through to 17.

Speaker:

How's your deal with this encouragement?

Speaker:

Go and do some retail therapy.

Speaker:

Do you like to get alone?

Speaker:

Do you like to go and eat?

Speaker:

Do you like to go side us?

Speaker:

and pray, or go aside and hide.

Speaker:

How do you deal with your times of this encouragement?

Speaker:

Luke If it does not hide Paul's discouragement from us, he lays it out there for us all to see.

Speaker:

But Luke also So it takes great care to allow us to see that God recognise Paul's discouragements.

Speaker:

God intervenes with Paul.

Speaker:

We read in verses 9 to 10 this.

Speaker:

One night The Lord spoke to Paul in a vision.

Speaker:

Do not be afraid.

Speaker:

Keep on speaking.

Speaker:

Do not be silent.

Speaker:

For I am with you and no one is going to attack you or harm you because I have many people in that city.

Speaker:

If you read back a few verses you will see the I pause this couragements as come, even after God has moved and people have received Christ of their Savior.

Speaker:

One more could pull possibly as for.

Speaker:

God promised good Christian friends for him.

Speaker:

encourages him to continue and is calling and assures him that God himself will control what is is happening around him and watch over him that God himself would keep him safe.

Speaker:

The Lord administering to pull through that vision was attend their moments for that weary apostle.

Speaker:

It was exactly a what he needed.

Speaker:

Paul was afraid and sent it not to speak in the light of conflict the around him.

Speaker:

Paul needed some fresh encouragement and a fresh encounter with i 'r i 'r i 'r i 'r i 'r i 'r i 'r i 'r i 'r i 'r i 'r i 'r i 'r i 'r i pea.

Speaker:

What Paul received was a deeper love to replace be say great fear, a gift of courage to replace caution and abide in presence in alarming a circumstances, and unlimited help against ultimate hurts, afraid of from loneliness and fellowship with Christ, I know the believers.

Speaker:

Paul needs Did a fresh encounter with the love and passion of Jesus?

Speaker:

And that's exactly what he received.

Speaker:

In Mass At the age of 28, verse 20, Jesus promised His disciples, He would always be with them, and He was.

Speaker:

making the same promise to Paul.

Speaker:

In these verses there are many lessons for each of us to We learn.

Speaker:

need to recognise that none of us are immune from this coragement, this Scourgement coragement, can come in the midst of great success.

Speaker:

We need to be honest about confessing this God encouragement for the God always has his eyes on our circumstances.

Speaker:

He is Withers regardless of our circumstance, he will not place more honours than we can stand.

Speaker:

often uses other people to strengthen us.

Speaker:

He commands us to continue the good work he is doing through us.

Speaker:

He will wear through others to make the way for us to do his work.

Speaker:

As we will see in the remainder of this chapter, on the remainder Drowvax, of the chapter, poor receives the needed passion and power from God and he continues.

Speaker:

in that calling that God has placed on him.

Speaker:

Paul continues to talk to the Jews to the Gentiles, unexperiences many successes as he continues in his ministry.

Speaker:

O st发 fefan Selbst р Wesdiad ,edd nhwalg sacred всемcyd enn i gyfresu a gwahk yw i gwblent af r raphbeth yddi fefan Cypwo.

Speaker:

we can see that Paul is right back on track.

Speaker:

If you're feeling disappointed, the disliked, solutioned, fearful, isolated, the same God who strengthened poor, It's once just granting you.

Speaker:

Will you take a moment right now to invite him into your situation?

Speaker:

Cry out to for me.

Speaker:

him and allow him to speak words of strength, words of peace and mercy, words It's like we're strengthening you.

Speaker:

The phrase saying God, who met with Paul, longs to meet with you, even Even now.

Speaker:

God bless you.

Speaker:

Sorry, Welcome welcome.

Speaker:

back.

Speaker:

Welcome back to the studio where we're going to do conversation street.

Speaker:

If you are watching live for some reason YouTube is struggling a little minute With some I know a few people are struggling with both from looking at the comments I don't know why that is I have to be honest with you because I know that the signal going up Is bleeding quick?

Speaker:

I think is the technical definition.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

So hopefully YouTube will some of those out.

Speaker:

Well we're just going to keep chatting anyway.

Speaker:

Because you know why would we not?

Speaker:

So yeah, let's Let's crack on.

Speaker:

So, Dave started with a question which was have you ever become discouraged while trying to serve the world?

Speaker:

So, I'm going to throw that one in.

Speaker:

Have I ever become discouraged whilst trying to serve God?

Speaker:

No, I never.

Speaker:

Don't believe it.

Speaker:

You got that cheeky look on you.

Speaker:

Yeah, I think it's probably fair to say that just about everybody has probably been discouraged by trying to surf god on me and It's one of Those those things, isn't it discouragement?

Speaker:

You normally get discouraged when things don't happen the way you think they're going to happen.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

There's some kind of unmet expectation.

Speaker:

And whatever that is.

Speaker:

And so I think when you serve, when you're serving God and you feel sort of discouraged.

Speaker:

It's one of those where you're discouraged because it kind of feels da, y bye byd yr twyan eu wedi deith beth oes â proud deith yw ma 단ad i fywförr i du weld fel cael thactlya ?ill ni weld da?

Speaker:

Mae fe, ond oedd ddaglephkoer fod cyffrefnornu!

Speaker:

I'm going to take anything.

Speaker:

Are you on the spot?

Speaker:

Yeah, no, it's fine.

Speaker:

Have you thought about this?

Speaker:

A little bit, yeah.

Speaker:

Okay, well you tell your answer and then it gives me a chance to think.

Speaker:

Oh, okay.

Speaker:

really can and you just don't know, you don't always know how to deal with that.

Speaker:

And I think especially when it comes to Christian things.

Speaker:

One of The the things things that I've been doing, that I as bizarrely as discouraged me as odd as this sounds, especially, you know, I'm hearing what I'm about saying in my head.

Speaker:

But one of the things that has discouraged me in the past is when I've read Christian biographies.

Speaker:

Yeah, I know where this is going.

Speaker:

So you read the stories of people in, not just in the Bible, but you read 21st century people's stories, don't you?

Speaker:

even maybe not maybe 20th century so people like Smith Wigglesworth or John G Lake and you read their stories and these are our guys.

Speaker:

where the miraculous just sort of seemed to follow them wherever they go.

Speaker:

It's just incredible.

Speaker:

Some of the stuff that's come out of them is just incredible.

Speaker:

And you read them and you go, So yeah, but I've I'm I've still got this flu Jermino or whatever it is and I think sometimes times I've read Christian books like that and whenever people write Christian books I get what they're trying to do they're trying to be encouraging and by trying to be encouraging the only other talk about the high points and of course like Life is 99 % boring and very unhelpful.

Speaker:

And so it's one of those things where I think when I compare my life with what's written in those stories you can get a little bit discouraged.

Speaker:

Does that make sense?

Speaker:

Yeah, totally.

Speaker:

I think I've been in the same situation where you've kind of got these two things going on.

Speaker:

On the one hand, it is encouraging to hear of like God doing stuff and it's just kind of going, yeah, that's amazing.

Speaker:

But on the other hand, it's like you say, it's like, but why is all this not happening in my life?

Speaker:

But then actually sometimes when I'm like recounting stuff from the past in my life before, we met and since and you kind of do that potted version, you can kind of go, yeah, and God did this and God did that.

Speaker:

But actually because those like amazing times can sometimes be quite far apart, yeah.

Speaker:

Not sure what I'm going with that.

Speaker:

Yeah, it's funny isn't it?

Speaker:

So I think what is funnily enough, one of the things that I suppose to encourage is can often discourage is in the wrong context.

Speaker:

Felly mwybeth l 돼요 enwedd o werah i 'r Werah.

Speaker:

Og rwy Clóf yn i 'r Sydney Farans this a felly yn ti.

Speaker:

Mi 'n conti gw sharing racespectை gwnau o euBUQ.

Speaker:

that can actually be discouraging to that person you're sharing it to because that's maybe not what they want to hear right then and there.

Speaker:

So there's that sensitivity aspect, isn't it?

Speaker:

So the thing that is designed to encourage can discourage if we're not careful.

Speaker:

And that's the tension I think we face in all of this, isn't it?

Speaker:

Yeah, you need wisdom, don't you?

Speaker:

And situations like that.

Speaker:

You do.

Speaker:

I think for Paul, though, I don't think he was reading Christian books at the time.

Speaker:

I don't think it was, I don't think that was his issue that was causing him to get discouraged.

Speaker:

I think he just, it was just hot.

Speaker:

I'd work trying to do what God had called him to do and I think that's what was discouraging him.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And I think that's another form of discouragement, isn't it?

Speaker:

It's not...

Speaker:

his, his, his, the Apostle Paul get indiscouraged and he wrote things like we are crushed but we are not perplexed but we are not broken and do you know what I mean?

Speaker:

That's that kind of, we've got 2011ó칵 Suf Gethys Shprodugrus to sgisulio Wr meinenbl goch ast yn Galgu Felly na 'r huwb March eraith gr Cyd dependent fo i awda 'r Shpru a rhac llw iu 'r ל RhymdGrти Felly â chydael goch Dialog ff upwards It's definitely gone through more than what we have gone through.

Speaker:

That's well, so I've shown a lot of gone through.

Speaker:

Um, but Even he in the midst of that, even of despairing, even of life itself, finding life, just like, why am I here?

Speaker:

God, will you please take me?

Speaker:

Now, you know, those kind of prayers, I don't want to be around anymore.

Speaker:

That's That's where Paul find himself.

Speaker:

And yet in the midst of that God still had a plan and he's still used him.

Speaker:

And I think Paul this wrote it.

Speaker:

really interesting phrase didn't he?

Speaker:

I'll quote the King James because I really like the King James version which is the Old old -fashioned Bible translation if you don't know.

Speaker:

The King James version says, I'm a betwixt.

Speaker:

Now I'm betwixt between two things.

Speaker:

Betwixt I think is such a good word.

Speaker:

I think we should bring it back and use it more.

Speaker:

You do that.

Speaker:

I and know.

Speaker:

be tweaked between two things.

Speaker:

A desire to go, which frankly is better for me, and the desire to stay.

Speaker:

which is frankly better for you.

Speaker:

So I'm going to stay.

Speaker:

And I think Paul, in the midst of all of this, realized that God had a plan and that was to not necessarily bless him but to bless other people through him to bring God's kingdom through his life.

Speaker:

And that, At, whilst it sounds great and we talk about the call of God, don't we?

Speaker:

And following God's plans and purposes can actually be a hard road and it actually can be full of discouragement just because you're doing what God's told you to do.

Speaker:

Doesn't mean the birds are going to sing, the sun shines going to be brilliant and you're going to feel on top of the world all the time.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Dave asked another question which was how do you deal with discouragement?

Speaker:

So I'm going to fling that your way as well.

Speaker:

You've got all the questions first tonight.

Speaker:

I mean, before we do that, I'm not denying you a question.

Speaker:

I'm just going to check over here.

Speaker:

Um, I'll for the comments.

Speaker:

Yeah, I'm just kind of going through this.

Speaker:

Uh, I think people are still struggling with the buffering now buffering again.

Speaker:

Uh, where are we up to on this?

Speaker:

Yeah, we're a little bit behind not quite sure what's going on.

Speaker:

Speaker:

Sorry about the buffering guys.

Speaker:

気deg bag a fill córwys 91 dien defYy?

Speaker:

Fato There's some o roam?

Speaker:

foremost for me you encourage yourself in God.

Speaker:

Now, sounds very high -falutin in a lot of ways, doesn't it?

Speaker:

Like, how do you encourage yourself in God?

Speaker:

I mean, we could talk about that for hours, I suppose, in a lot of ways.

Speaker:

But, Fundamentally, I think you do certain things, right?

Speaker:

And you make yourself do them.

Speaker:

Things like I still pray, I still read my Bible, I still journal.

Speaker:

out my heart to God in terms of how I'm feeling because God can deal with that.

Speaker:

I don't deny it and I keep going knowing that actually just because I'm feeling discouraged doesn't mean that life is bad if that makes sense.

Speaker:

So I think you go back to what's basic and you do that well and you keep going with that and you encourage yourself in God and I think for But fundamentally that's going back to that place where you can hear God, where God comminister to you.

Speaker:

And not necessarily where God's That soul is.

Speaker:

solves everything.

Speaker:

But where you come away with a sort of renewed hope that God is with me in this.

Speaker:

Yeah, but I guess that's a point with this that God is encouraging Paul, but that doesn't actually change his outside or his external situation.

Speaker:

He's still in the same situation.

Speaker:

But what it does do is it strengthens him on the inside and just helps, I think, possibly help shift his perspective on the situation.

Speaker:

And I think that's sometimes what that encouragement does.

Speaker:

When I heard Dave's talk, I listened to it earlier as well.

Speaker:

I'm like, he's nicknamed my talk for a few weeks.

Speaker:

Yeah, Dave.

Speaker:

Just telling me in the car on the way down.

Speaker:

I was going to be like, do I talk about that now?

Speaker:

Yeah, just go for it.

Speaker:

Anyway.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

fi, Tיםgan, wedi ray.

Speaker:

David O 'r enthalpy54 o 'r ta 'r ydyfafi annuddwch chi wedi ddfrie pan windowгоch rwy 'n bifle i hynny.

Speaker:

What do you do to encourage yourself in God?

Speaker:

First and foremost, talk about that.

Speaker:

Okay, the in God bit would be the similar things to you.

Speaker:

I do like journaling for when I'm in those situations.

Speaker:

I don't journal as a matter of course every day because I get rid of it.

Speaker:

I tend to do it more when I feel like I've heard something from God or like somebody else says something that's really stuck with me or you know kind of the highs and the lows really.

Speaker:

And I use a journal to help me process stuff.

Speaker:

So to pour out my thoughts and then just to invite God into the situation, that'd be one.

Speaker:

Another would be talking to you and just going, well I know that.

Speaker:

Okay, tell me something encouraging which I think is generally what I do.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

You normally say fix it.

Speaker:

Sometimes.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Sometimes it's a case of I just want to tell you everything and I don't need to do anything other than some like okay, tell me something now.

Speaker:

Tell me what I need to do.

Speaker:

Tell me how to fix this now.

Speaker:

So it depends on the situation.

Speaker:

And that's interesting because you've brought up another point there.

Speaker:

So you first and foremost, I think you have to encourage yourself in God, right?

Speaker:

And the second thing is I I don't believe know.

Speaker:

that God puts people around you to encourage you.

Speaker:

Right?

Speaker:

Whether this is friends, whether this is just random.

Speaker:

and then people who just say the odd thing to you and it just sparks something in your head and that happens quite a bit and it could be family, it could be a church.

Speaker:

I So am a mwyn it could be a worship song, I think God sort of has these sort of happy accidents if you're like where people come across, you come across people that, you know, that encourage you in many ways.

Speaker:

And the Bible, there are verses which talks about, well, tells us, encourage one another in the Lord.

Speaker:

So, you know, to actively connotately do that and look for situations where we can encourage people.

Speaker:

Yeah, we do.

Speaker:

It's interesting, one of the key things that the Bible talks about where church is concerned.

Speaker:

gallwn gwawr, mith wedi gywmio roedd yr rhom ynmişi rhan o bench.

Speaker:

But one of the chief things that you're supposed to do when you go to church, one of the chief reasons to go to church is not just to sing hymns, which is good.

Speaker:

but not just a break in a bread which is good, notice the devotion of yourself to the posses teaching which is good but the That Bible will talk a lot about encouraging one another.

Speaker:

So when you go to church, your prayer should be like, God, how do I encourage the people?

Speaker:

Give me a for word.

Speaker:

one or two of the people in church.

Speaker:

How do I encourage them?

Speaker:

And so at the end of every, if I go to an in -person church service, one of the things I love to do at the end is just go around.

Speaker:

Speaker:

Because D降ol I think I'm going to have to talk to you about that.

Speaker:

Speaker:

It fills me tank.

Speaker:

That's a very Julie Connelly expression.

Speaker:

You might have to explain that.

Speaker:

If you can imagine that you've got an energy tank, and we've only got so much energy to give out to things, and when that energy is gone, it's quite easy to get discouraged.

Speaker:

I think in those situations when your energy is gone.

Speaker:

So filling your tanks about just doing those things that bring you life and renew your energy.

Speaker:

Of course, being with God, big one.

Speaker:

But there are other things, so for me it might be reading or meeting with a friend or going for walk out in nature or just doing something that I enjoy.

Speaker:

And it does remind me of a passage from the Old Testament and I can't remember the guy's name, it's possibly a large or a light share and Old Testament prophet who just done those are very tiring stuff for God.

Speaker:

I've seen lots of victories and amazing stuff but I got to point where he was just depressed and didn't want to go on.

Speaker:

And I think possibly that was because he was absolutely exhausted.

Speaker:

So he had an amazing time in one sense.

Speaker:

It was a difficult situation too.

Speaker:

And what God does is come alongside him, sends him food and sends him drink and tells him to rest.

Speaker:

You keep talking.

Speaker:

I'm hoping that this is going to solve the buffering issue that people seem to be experiencing.

Speaker:

So I'm just closing that.

Speaker:

Okay, so sorry about that folks let me just double check.

Speaker:

Okay, oops, Daisy.

Speaker:

Well, I've just done but I definitely don't want to do that.

Speaker:

So, and Thoughts about encouraging ourselves, encouraging other people.

Speaker:

Were you going in any particular direction?

Speaker:

No, It I just...

Speaker:

was good.

Speaker:

I thought there was a theme there where you encourage yourself in the Lord and you encourage, you know, God puts people around you to encourage you.

Speaker:

There Here's is one thing that one other thing that sort of springs to my mind that actually would be an interesting thing to talk about.

Speaker:

Although it might sound a little bit odd, is that he gives angels to encourages.

Speaker:

What do you think about that?

Speaker:

Sounds great.

Speaker:

I mean I would love to actually see a real angel.

Speaker:

I don't know that I have, I'm aware of, but maybe, maybe I have an...

Speaker:

Just always go down.

Speaker:

But then this comes back to the unmet expectations, doesn't it?

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And so, yeah, hopefully.

Speaker:

Let me know if the buffering issue has now been solved.

Speaker:

Sorry to keep interrupting.

Speaker:

It seems to be picking itself up a little bit now.

Speaker:

Hopefully that's fixed it.

Speaker:

Hopefully it is fixed.

Speaker:

Technical issues.

Speaker:

Every week.

Speaker:

You've done a sterling job of holding the thought there, babe.

Speaker:

Sterling job.

Speaker:

So what were you thinking about angels?

Speaker:

It's just an interesting thing that the Book of Hebrews talks about how angels or ministering spirits have been sent forth to minister to those who are as of salvation, which you would classify as Christians.

Speaker:

And And you can read in the Bible that there are times when angels have, the angels have sort of, they've done And stuff haven't they which is either protected somebody or encouraged somebody sometimes they bring the word of the Lord I mean you think about Mary, you know got Christmas coming up and angel appears to her and tells her that she's gonna be pregnant I mean angels are pretty pretty rad really and they do some funky stuff, but Mae 'r yshans fynd yn congradaith i darhyn syd eu'llu.

Speaker:

Mae 'n webill ac ac i 'r yng ngan i' obstructionïom.

Speaker:

I will talk about how we unwittingly entertain angels.

Speaker:

So obviously we can meet them and not know about it.

Speaker:

And so I think there is a supernatural aspect of this, which says, God is an encourager.

Speaker:

I can encourage myself in the Lord.

Speaker:

I can do things that will encourage me.

Speaker:

But also at the same time God will do supernatural things to encourage me.

Speaker:

One of which is we have, there are angels that will be sent forth on occasions to help us, you know.

Speaker:

And so O 'r tu, ondo yn cwest easydwyd y centwch wrong peerdwi Mae pwysIAMellου rhyaf, plugff ec uncertainor neu ond adio gwrieloglafbr accuselllor, yn habit yn I tipon?

Speaker:

It's Not already just texting your mates then.

Speaker:

Yeah, I'm the meme and the pub later.

Speaker:

No, not at all.

Speaker:

And so yeah, it seems to be back on track.

Speaker:

Although Maryam says she's still struggling with it.

Speaker:

But just try Refreshing it out.

Speaker:

it just hit the refresh but I don't know I just don't know sometimes live stream is funny isn't it?

Speaker:

But we'll carry on regardless because we know Mae 'n ll черезdol gydaeon, wrth agodd Dawg .驰dou poblws i 'w gen cryddfa 'r angredd fel ei fod deddul.

Speaker:

HERFOR worker flexiblewys unr細 diwrs ond na站egd Omar Knesson胸 Tw MAThi Lwys But yn cael gen it's encouragement.

Speaker:

So encouragement to encourage is made up of two words.

Speaker:

It's like you're reading my mind now.

Speaker:

I'm assuming you're not.

Speaker:

Carrying.

Speaker:

This is spooky isn't it, when the hams.

Speaker:

It's always someone's like, we're married.

Speaker:

Almost.

Speaker:

Almost.

Speaker:

The word to encourage somebody is made up of two words, an, e, and, and courage.

Speaker:

Now the word e, and means within, the God within.

Speaker:

So it's a Greek word.

Speaker:

I think it's a Greek word which means a God within.

Speaker:

So to encourage somebody is to stir that gift of God that is within somebody, right?

Speaker:

So and this is one of the most interesting ways I think to encourage yourself is to remember that God lives within you and he is with you.

Speaker:

Regardless, of what's going on in life and it was pulled up right this wasn't it said um uh let me in fact I'll pull it up I will quit the actual Bible because it's in Romans chapter 8 and they pull up the Bible on my phone.

Speaker:

Have you got the Bible app on your phone?

Speaker:

Do you prefer the Bible app or do you prefer like pen and paper still?

Speaker:

The actual book?

Speaker:

I like a bit of both I think.

Speaker:

But I've got a Bible app convenient, isn't it?

Speaker:

It's very convenient.

Speaker:

So Paul talks about how there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.

Speaker:

Now this is encouraging.

Speaker:

This is interesting because Paul is encouraging you.

Speaker:

He is saying there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.

Speaker:

And just fast forward in a little bit, he says, as 4 to blah blah blah blah where are we?

Speaker:

Okay, let me get the right verse here.

Speaker:

for brethren.

Speaker:

Oh in fact let me get a different this is a King James version it's not going to help you he says this for I consider The sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

Speaker:

Right?

Speaker:

So Paul, All's talking about the manifestation of God's glory.

Speaker:

Either in as it while we're here on earth or when we get to heaven, right?

Speaker:

For the earnest expectation of the creation, eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons, for the creation was subjected to, if you can, it goes on and on and on and on about this.

Speaker:

Where's the bit I'm looking for?

Speaker:

Here we go.

Speaker:

We know that all things work together for good to those Those who love God, Romans 8 .28, to those who are called according to His purpose, for whom He foreknew, He predestined to be conformed into the image of His Son.

Speaker:

He who predestined, he also called, right?

Speaker:

If he called you, he also justified you and if he justifies he also glorified you.

Speaker:

There's some very big words in this, right?

Speaker:

So what shall we say to for us who can be against us.

Speaker:

He who did not spare his own son but delivered him up for us all.

Speaker:

How shall he not with him also freely give us all?

Speaker:

all things.

Speaker:

And second, it's great isn't it?

Speaker:

It's it's and it goes on and it goes who shall Our separators from the love of Christ, right?

Speaker:

Shall tribulation, tribulation, or distress or person?

Speaker:

execution or famine or nakedness or peril or sword as it is written for your sake we are killed all all day long we are a cantedist sheep for the slaughter yet in all these things.

Speaker:

Right?

Speaker:

In all these these things.

Speaker:

So in tribulation, in distress, in persecution, in famine, in nakedness, in peril, and when you're in bad at all with the soul when you feel like you're like a sheepled to the slaughter.

Speaker:

In all these things we are more than conquerors through to him who loved us for I am persuaded.

Speaker:

And this is interesting isn't it how did Paul get persuaded of this right?

Speaker:

I am persuaded that neither death nor life nor angels nor principalities nor powers nor things present nor things to come nor or height nor depth nor any other created thing just to be totally clear shall be able to separate us from the liver of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Speaker:

Amazing verses.

Speaker:

They're aren't great.

Speaker:

they?

Speaker:

And so this is the same pool that was discouraged in Athens, that was discouraged in currents.

Speaker:

And as he's getting towards the end of his life, he sort of figures these out, doesn't he?

Speaker:

He's going, well hang on a minute, I've been like that, I've suffered, I've been persecuted, I've been in such dire straits, yet in all these things I am more than a conqueror, which is where Jessie Guflanc yn wrein hyn yna yn frców.

Speaker:

It's not you must ring up courage it's not like it's not like I have to I can go to the Audi and buy play it.

Speaker:

If I close my eyes hard enough and it's going to make things happen, it's not about how cool you are or how strong you are or how weak you are, it's all about him and so we encourage ourselves in God.

Speaker:

God, not in our own ability because if that ability disappears, you've not really got much, whereas God's ability is infinite and permanent, isn't it?

Speaker:

And so I think we can encourage ourselves in Him because Because in him, nothing can separate me from his love.

Speaker:

I mean, that's an encouragement right there.

Speaker:

And in regard of to whatever I face I'm more than a conqueror through Christ who loves me and you just kind of like well that's pretty rad that's pretty radical and I think it's super encouraging because that's the encouragement of God that's in you yeah which says doesn't matter what you face God's with you God's for you that you can't be separate from the love of God and you can be encouraged by that I think there Unigowym are fel ei lime iad a da ond fel ein wowag een summaraith.

Speaker:

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Sorry about the buffering, genuinely dais working, fine for me, I just want to point that out, I don't understand why, but there you go.

Speaker:

We seem to have got it working now, I think I understand what the first problem might have been, I think it might have been a Wi -Fi issue, but hopefully we're back up and running now, we'll wait and see.

Speaker:

But yeah, Yes, if this is still causing grief, we will of course upload it separately if it's not uploaded properly.

Speaker:

So the good news is we're recording everything here.

Speaker:

So we've got an actual copy of it.

Speaker:

time is it we've been chatting away so let me tell you should we tell people what's coming up next if you got anything more to you want to say about this because I I'm don't think so.

Speaker:

We're going to steal your preach if we carry on.

Speaker:

I think it's gone.

Speaker:

See if you're going to be a repeat or have to change tax.

Speaker:

We'll see.

Speaker:

Just repeat it.

Speaker:

Whatever you talk about will be great.

Speaker:

It always is.

Speaker:

So yes, one of the ways that I used to encourage myself a lot when I was young in my Christian faith is I would in fact, I still do this.

Speaker:

If you want on encouragement around a certain topic.

Speaker:

Right, so let's say it is fear and you are feeling afraid, whether it's because of all the wars that are going on, you know, got Israel, Gaza, you've got Ukraine, Russia, all kinds of stuff going on.

Speaker:

So Let's let's say, right, you have an issue of fear.

Speaker:

How would I encourage myself in that deal with that fear?

Speaker:

This is probably a more practical answer to in some respects.

Speaker:

I would study the Bible on what it says about fear, right?

Speaker:

I would go and get like 5 or 6 verses and you can just google what does the Bible say about fair and it's going to come up with some stuff right.

Speaker:

I am then going to write those down on a piece of paper those five verses I'm going to write them out long You know the full length and all irgendwGot you 'n dod yn hyn i 'r maile Roedd hon, fundra, yn eich am killwch gyur yr acne, l doubtau 'r ligad eich limitingol yn hygelen ac én gref готов a acodwch y絵 ein And arall rhoi perc do is I would then on a piece of paper, I think it's usually works best on a piece of paper, but I would highlight different parts of that verse, I would ring different parts.

Speaker:

I would write little notes in the margin, I would write then build that out to a paragraph.

Speaker:

What do we think that means?

Speaker:

And this is what I did when I was younger and it really, really works.

Speaker:

I I would prep those six verses as though I was going to deliver them as a talk in church, right, as a sermon.

Speaker:

And so So there's a number of reasons why I think this is good, right?

Speaker:

And I'm sure there's all kinds of psychological benefits as well, but to read some Something is one thing to read something, make notes in the margin is something else, but to read it, understand it in such a way that you're going to try and teach it.

Speaker:

I think that's a very different form of revelation.

Speaker:

I really do.

Speaker:

So I would, uh, between university when I first became a Christian and I had the house where I used to live, it was a 45 minute walk.

Speaker:

And so, I would take out those notes and I would preach to myself for 45 minutes walking home.

Speaker:

And if you just put But your headphones in, people were just thinking talking on the phone, so you don't look aware though.

Speaker:

But 20 years ago, of course, we didn't, well, 20 years ago, it was a lot longer than 20 years ago when I was at uni.

Speaker:

30 years ago, we didn't have the, we had that big over the head things and we didn't have mobile phones on head so people just thought I was weird and I was fine with that But go down the garden sheds Go somewhere where it's quiet wait till the kids have left the house whatever it is pull out those notes that you have prepped as a talk and then actually preach that talk.

Speaker:

Get the words out of your mouth and deliver that as a sermon.

Speaker:

There There's is something so powerful about that.

Speaker:

You are speaking the word of God to your soul and you get encouraged and I would do that twice a day for many, many days while us the word of God was built, built up inside of me and I could have faith and whilst faith grew and sort of expanded in my heart preaching it was the best way to get it in there.

Speaker:

Or if you want a kind of a more potted version, I didn't necessarily the the preach version but definitely when I was struggling with things I would do this study like you say like what God what are you saying what does your words say about this situation this subject and then if they were like they'd generally be about well I'd pick three verses in particular that just really stood out to me that were just like yeah that's for me and then I would take like medicine like three times a day and you touched on the whole thing of the speaking and the Bible has a lot to say about meditation and the biblical meditation is to think on but also to mutter so it's the both of the thinking and the speaking out which you've mentioned there and I'll just be like again speaking these verses over myself and thinking about them like thinking okay if I really believe these would true how would that affect how I felt how I thought how I behaved and I was like start acting in that way yeah even before you necessarily feel like it just trusting on okay I I'm gonna act on it I'm gonna speak I'm gonna think it yeah and yeah very powerful so both methods and actually for other people if you're really creative and artistic maybe creating our around those verses we've got to constantly think about it create in music yeah whatever it is you're into you can use those skills and talents to actually meditate think on mutter God's words yeah you can do and that That for me is the best, most solid way to encourage yourself.

Speaker:

Don't be passive.

Speaker:

In other words, a lot of people will go, Lord, I need encouragement and to sit there, right?

Speaker:

It's to good pray, but it's don't be passive, right?

Speaker:

Get yourself into God's Word, study God's Word.

Speaker:

So if you're not a Christian, What all I'm I saying is go to the Bible, find out what God says about certain things.

Speaker:

The Bible covers a lot of topics.

Speaker:

We've done a lot of those actually previously on crowd.

Speaker:

What does the Bible say about that whole series?

Speaker:

The Bible I will cover a lot of topics you can go and find out what the Bible has to say and encourage yourself in that and that will be away to build faith inside you and as your faith grows and expands when you're not being passive, you'll be amazed.

Speaker:

You're all of a sudden you'll feel like David that you can run through a troop and climb a wall, right?

Speaker:

It's just and you'll feel like like Paul, like I don't care what's going on here, I'm more than a conqueror in this and it sounds odd that he could say that but I think he got to a place where actually his faith in God allowed him to get there.

Speaker:

It It wasn't wasn't overnight and it wasn't when Paul was passive but do stir yourself up in the things of God.

Speaker:

Stir yourself up in God and you will be encouraged and maybe you could do a whole talk on that.

Speaker:

Yeah, maybe.

Speaker:

Maybe that's what your talk would be about.

Speaker:

I'm.

Speaker:

I'm just going to look at the comments.

Speaker:

Do you want to explain what's happening next week?

Speaker:

Yeah, next week in the UK we've got Bonfire Night and the nation will be gathering together in groups, eating, watching fireworks and that kind of thing.

Speaker:

So we've got a non -live livestream next week.

Speaker:

So yeah, it's pre -recorded.

Speaker:

The whole thing will be pre -recorded.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Yeah, I'll say I don't know.

Speaker:

Yeah, I'll tell you what is it's funny.

Speaker:

I'm just sleep.

Speaker:

Matt Crease put in the comments.

Speaker:

Edmo hasn't bothered telling me who's doing the tour.

Speaker:

Walk next week.

Speaker:

It's probably someone elderly like Edmo himself.

Speaker:

Jen is written in the comments, oh, I'm a similar age to Edmo.

Speaker:

So Matt is backtracking going, you should be apologising Matthew straight away.

Speaker:

Yes, next week as you say, there's an on live livestream so if you are watching this outside of the UK you'll be like what is bomb finite and I I would wish I had a sensible explanation for you of what Bon Fine I is, but I don't.

Speaker:

Speaker:

tomorrow.

Speaker:

Tony and I are going to be recording.

Speaker:

So Tony Odin, who's a pastor of Tehram, let's community church, here and I are going to record next week's non -live livestream tomorrow.

Speaker:

It's going to be good.

Speaker:

No doubt about it.

Speaker:

We're going to laugh a lot.

Speaker:

I'm probably probably be slightly irreverent if I'm honest with you but we'll try very hard not to be too callous because Tony and I just like to laugh whenever we get together but I I thought it would be great to get someone like Tony on board, but he's going to talk about the straight and straight of the union in terms of Just some things that we're seeing in church at the moment and just talk around those issues and And just figure out what God's saying about them.

Speaker:

So I'm looking forward to it.

Speaker:

It's gonna be great.

Speaker:

Do make sure you watch that If you're doing bonfire night if you're in the UK stay safe obviously don't do anything crazy And if you're if you're halloween on Tuesday Is that this Tuesday?

Speaker:

Uh -huh.

Speaker:

So halloween Halloween's coming up this Tuesday.

Speaker:

Halloween's an interesting one isn't where we should maybe have talked about Halloween slightly contentious issue could should Christians do it yes or no right?

Speaker:

Be sure to answer in the comments.

Speaker:

I'll be really, really keen to hear them.

Speaker:

But yes, Halloween.

Speaker:

Yes or no?

Speaker:

In fact, Right, doesn't even have, he doesn't even have to be that black and white, does it?

Speaker:

Really?

Speaker:

So, what else is coming up next week?

Speaker:

Like, listen else in the comments other than read comments about you not know what the ethernet means.

Speaker:

You not know what?

Speaker:

An ethernet is.

Speaker:

But that's okay, that's okay.

Speaker:

You don't need to.

Speaker:

To be fair, I don't really know what it is anyway, but I just noticed why.

Speaker:

That comes out and it should stick in there somewhere.

Speaker:

But yes, no, thank you so much for joining us.

Speaker:

Once again apologies for the book.

Speaker:

offering issues tonight.

Speaker:

It's not normally like this.

Speaker:

First time this has actually happened for a very very long time.

Speaker:

But do like and subscribe I do come join us next week in the non -live livestream for tiny and my first conversation.

Speaker:

We'll be back live the week after with hosted live streams.

Speaker:

I think is it Chris Holcomb the week after?

Speaker:

I don't know why I'm looking at it.

Speaker:

I don't know why I'm looking at you to be fair.

Speaker:

I know you don't know.

Speaker:

I'm very sorry to put you in that position.

Speaker:

But I think it's Chris Holcomb, then it's you talking about encouragement.

Speaker:

Of course, I'm different now.

Speaker:

Plus something different, as you know, as ripping up her talk as we speak.

Speaker:

Then it's me and then we're into the Christmas season.

Speaker:

Can you believe that?

Speaker:

Clocks have gone back today.

Speaker:

The sky is dark.

Speaker:

We're getting ready for Christmas.

Speaker:

Loving it.

Speaker:

You do love a bit of Christmas.

Speaker:

I do love a bit of Christmas.

Speaker:

We get we go, I go a bit nuts at Christmas because it's an awesome time of the year.

Speaker:

Do come and join us for all the Christmas livestreams.

Speaker:

Great that you could join us tonight.

Speaker:

And if you're watching this on catch up, hopefully it's smooth sailing.

Speaker:

But yes, should we pray should we should pray probably shouldn't we and then we'll we'll end it Social I pray or do you want to pray?

Speaker:

I'm just doing that leaning forward things.

Speaker:

I'm still upstairs That thing from school, I, you know, I'm excluded.

Speaker:
