Hello and welcome to the Crochet Business
Speaker:School podcast, where you can use your crochet
Speaker:to build a business that will give you the lifestyle
Speaker:you've been dreaming of.
Speaker:Will anyone want to buy my crochet?
Speaker:This is a question that's asked quite a bit by
Speaker:those who are considering starting a crochet
Speaker:business.
Speaker:And the answer, in short, is yes, people will buy
Speaker:your crochet.
Speaker:However, they will not buy it because it's crochet.
Speaker:So what do I mean?
Speaker:So when you're searching for something to buy,
Speaker:do you ever search through the method the item
Speaker:is made?
Speaker:Unlikely.
Speaker:If you're looking for a warm, woolly winter hat,
Speaker:you're going to go searching for a warm, woolly
Speaker:winter hat.
Speaker:You're not going to go searching for a knitted
Speaker:hat, a crochet hat, a machine knitted hat.
Speaker:It doesn't matter how it's made.
Speaker:What matters is the function and that the
Speaker:customer likes the look.
Speaker:Customers will buy based on their need and if
Speaker:they like the look of it, the fact that it's crochet is
Speaker:completely besides the point.
Speaker:So if you're loading up your titles and your
Speaker:descriptions with Crochet hat, it's absolutely
Speaker:pointless.
Speaker:No one is going to buy it because it's a Crochet
Speaker:hat.
Speaker:Nobody cares that you're crochet.
Speaker:That can seem like a bit of a harsh statement to
Speaker:make, but it's true.
Speaker:Yes, you can be proud that you're crochet.
Speaker:Yes, you can be proud of the quality of your
Speaker:crochet, but your customers do not care that it's
Speaker:crochet.
Speaker:All your customers want is something that does
Speaker:the job that they need and they like the look of it.
Speaker:That's it.
Speaker:How it's made is completely irrelevant.
Speaker:What matters is the look and it does the job.
Speaker:So when you're advertising what you're making,
Speaker:you need to advertise based on what the
Speaker:function is.
Speaker:Forget that it's crochet.
Speaker:You're not going to sell based on, look at all my
Speaker:crochet.
Speaker:No one really cares.
Speaker:And for most people, actually saying that it's
Speaker:crochet will bring up images of what Grandma is
Speaker:doing, you don't want that.
Speaker:You want people to look at what you're selling
Speaker:based on what it does, based on how it's going to
Speaker:solve their problem.
Speaker:How it's made really doesn't matter.
Speaker:So if you're selling baby booties, you need to sell
Speaker:them based on they're comfortable for baby's
Speaker:feet.
Speaker:They're made in colours and a style that is
Speaker:trendy, but they can be customised personalised.
Speaker:You don't really need to mention that it's crochet
Speaker:at all.
Speaker:Your pictures will say it all, take really good
Speaker:photos and then people can see if they like the
Speaker:look of them and that's really what matters, if
Speaker:they like the look of it, how it's made.
Speaker:The only part of how it's made that you need to
Speaker:focus on is the fact that it's handmade, so that
Speaker:they know they're guessing something that is
Speaker:truly unique, high quality, and that they're not
Speaker:going to find anywhere else.
Speaker:You do need to emphasise that okay.
Speaker:Handmade means exclusive.
Speaker:It means quality.
Speaker:It means that you can make something that is
Speaker:truly special and that very few people will own.
Speaker:Make sure that you are screaming the benefits of
Speaker:what you're making for cushions.
Speaker:It's going to be that it's unique.
Speaker:Very few people ever own that particular item
Speaker:because there's only so many that you can make,
Speaker:that you can customise the colours to fit the
Speaker:decor, what your options are.
Speaker:Make sure you show all your colour options and
Speaker:just really screen the benefits.
Speaker:The more you focus on the problem your
Speaker:product solve, the more likely your customers
Speaker:are to see the benefits, to see why they want to
Speaker:buy it, and the more likely they are to make that
Speaker:purchase.
Speaker:So, yes, people will buy your Crochet, but only if
Speaker:you market it the right way and make sure that
Speaker:you screen the benefits and how exclusive your
Speaker:handmade products are from the rooftops.
Speaker:So focus on that.
Speaker:Forget that it's Crochet, and yes, you will sell
Speaker:what you make.
Speaker:Thank you for joining me on the podcast today.
Speaker:I hope that's giving you some things to think
Speaker:about.
