Welcome to the mesmerizing marketing
podcast, where we take a deep dive
2
:into the latest marketing trends,
tools, and tips, and provide you with
3
:the top resources you need to thrive
and make your marketing mesmerizing.
4
:And now here's your host Dimple Dang.
5
:Welcome back, my
mesmerizing marketing tribe.
6
:And I am excited.
7
:I just recently got back from
Pliocon conference that was
8
:held in Nashville, Tennessee.
9
:And I tell you, it was my first
time going to Nashville, but I tell
10
:you, it was actually kind of fun.
11
:I got there a little bit earlier,
so on Sunday I was able to walk
12
:around and check out some places
and listen to some country music.
13
:But today, I'm excited to actually
talk to you guys about harnessing
14
:AI for your law firm, and how it
can really help you propel your law
15
:firm to new heights and excellence.
16
:And I was actually surprised that at the
Clio con conference, A lot of the topics
17
:and the sessions were about AI, and
they really put a big emphasis on how AI
18
:is going to impact the legal industry.
19
:Of course, I know this all along because
I am not only a legal marketing expert,
20
:but I'm also an AI strategist, and I have
been really diving myself deep into AI.
21
:Mastering chat GPT, mastering the latest
tools, and really more from a strategic
22
:perspective of what tools do you
actually need to use to accomplish what?
23
:Because you, if you just get
a tool, right, anyone can go
24
:get tools, they're everywhere.
25
:But that doesn't mean that it's going to
work for you because what's really going
26
:to work for you is having a strategy.
27
:So you need a strategy that's going to
help you accomplish your goals, right?
28
:So anyway, going back to Clio Con,
they really put a big emphasis on AI.
29
:They even had a workshop where they
were showing lawyers how to use AI.
30
:I couldn't attend that one because there's
another session on AI, and I could only
31
:be in one place at the same time, right?
32
:But one thing that I found
really interesting is they
33
:showed a slide and on the slide.
34
:So they said the legal industry
out of all the industries out
35
:there is the number two industry
that's going to be impacted by AI.
36
:And I was actually pleasantly surprised
because yes, I knew that lawyers are
37
:going to be using AI, but I didn't
know that they're actually really.
38
:Somewhat open to it because you know as
we know lawyers sometimes can be a little
39
:critical of things But not this bunch
that was there and by the way at Cleo
40
:con there were probably about over 3, 500
people there lawyers and legal industry
41
:professionals And I'm just gonna say
if you haven't been there and you're an
42
:attorney or you're in the legal industry
or legal tech that's a place that you
43
:want to be next year because I tell
you I It was a great, great experience.
44
:All right.
45
:So let's dive in right now.
46
:If you want to remain competitive, right.
47
:And relevant.
48
:You really have to be tech savvy.
49
:You have to be innovative as a law firm.
50
:And there were some lawyers there
who, you know, were recognized
51
:for their work in the legal
industry of growing their practice.
52
:And one of the things that I saw
was a common theme is that they
53
:all shared and talked about.
54
:How they want to be innovative.
55
:They want to make sure that they are using
the latest technology, the latest tools,
56
:and just learning how they can just, you
know, be the forefront and be the first
57
:ones to do something new and cutting edge.
58
:And with AI opportunity lies
in that like right away.
59
:But here's the thing too.
60
:If you are pushing AI on the
back burner, because we know that
61
:as lawyers, you guys are busy.
62
:I would suggest that you make some time
for it, at least to educate yourself on
63
:some of the things that are out there.
64
:How do they work?
65
:What are some of the legal ramifications?
66
:All these things, because AI is not a fad.
67
:It is not a trend.
68
:AI is here to stay.
69
:It is not going anywhere.
70
:And that, I can just
tell you, is a F A C T.
71
:Because there's a lot of trends that
come and go, AI is here to stay.
72
:And...
73
:Law firms who adopt AI and start using
it, they're going to be the ones that
74
:are actually going to, you know, be super
successful and come out ahead because
75
:with AI, it saves you time, it saves you
money, it helps you be more productive, it
76
:helps you save hours and hours of research
that it may take you to look through
77
:legal contracts and documents to find
the pertinent information that you need.
78
:So, the key is...
79
:You don't have to know everything you
just have to like find someone who can
80
:help you Right, and if you are listening
to this podcast right now, I'm that
81
:person if you need help with Implementing
an AI strategy into your law firm.
82
:I'm your girl.
83
:So make sure you reach out to
me My information is in the show
84
:notes Are you can go to my website,
attorney, marketing expert.
85
:com and reach out to me there as well.
86
:Now let's talk about AI and some
of the things that I think you're
87
:going to find interesting, right?
88
:So when you think about AI
applications in law, right?
89
:There's a lot of things that lawyers have
to do on a day to day basis, or even their
90
:paralegals, but there's things like legal
research, document review, predictive
91
:analysis, Of course, client interaction,
and even precision and billing.
92
:And those are a lot of things and
a lot of hats that a law firm has
93
:to juggle, that a lawyer has to
juggle, that their support staff and
94
:other lawyers have to also juggle.
95
:So when it comes to legal research,
right, the traditional method has been
96
:manually searching through documents
and databases, which literally
97
:can take hours and hours to do.
98
:But now, instead of doing all of that
manually, there is an AI tool and solution
99
:and platform called ROS Intelligence,
that's R O S S Intelligence, and you
100
:can use ROS Intelligence because what
it does is it uses algorithms and
101
:NLP for efficient legal research.
102
:Okay, so that is one
that you can check out.
103
:I will link all of these
in the show notes as well.
104
:Now let's talk about document review.
105
:So for a document review, the traditional
method has been doing a manual
106
:examination of all the documents, right?
107
:But that no longer has
to be done manually.
108
:There are AI solutions like
Kira, that's K I R A, and another
109
:one called ThoughtRiver, and
another one called Luminance.
110
:And what these AI tools do is
they use machine learning to
111
:identify key details quickly.
112
:And this helps you with your
document review process.
113
:Next, let's go to the next thing,
which is predictive analysis.
114
:So traditionally, the method for
predictive analysis has been to
115
:rely on personal experience, right?
116
:But now, the AI solution, there's a
platform called Lex Machina, that's L
117
:E X and then Machina, M A C H I N A,
that provides data driven forecasting.
118
:So, you can use Lex Machina
for your predictive analysis.
119
:And that's going to be one more
thing that you can save time on.
120
:All right, let's go to the next thing.
121
:We're going to talk about something
that's very common in the legal
122
:niche, which is document drafting.
123
:So with document drafting, the
traditional method has always been
124
:to make manual revisions, and that
can take, you know, a long time.
125
:And sometimes if it's a very
complex document, that can
126
:take hours or even days.
127
:So the AI solution for that is do not
pay and it crafts legal documents based
128
:on the user input that you do, but do
not pay actually does so many other
129
:things too that I'm going to have to
probably do another podcast episode on
130
:these tools to dive in deeply to all the
features and functionality that they have.
131
:But before I do that episode, I
wanted to give you guys a little.
132
:So I'm going to show you how to you
can wrap your head around all the
133
:things that AI can do, how lawyers
can use it, and then, of course,
134
:there is client interaction, right?
135
:So the traditional method has
been manually scheduling things
136
:with clients and interactions
and communications, right?
137
:But now, with AI driven chatbots, you can
manage client queries and appointments.
138
:And, in fact, You can have custom
chatbots created for you for your website
139
:that can engage and act in a way that
Really takes a lot of the work off of
140
:your team and yourself when it comes to
answering Questions that are commonly
141
:asked because you can train this chatbot
to respond in a particular way Based on
142
:the user inputs that it's getting right
so that's really important too and now
143
:the next one we're going to go to is a
Billing and not just billing, but we're
144
:talking about precision in billing and
the traditional method has always been
145
:Like a human process that it can actually
lead to potential errors and on the
146
:end of your clients, you know Thinking
have they been over billed or not?
147
:Or maybe you under build them and you
left money on the table either way It's
148
:a lose lose situation for either party.
149
:So then the AI solution is Is Clio.
150
:So Clio again is the one that I told
you had the conference in Nashville.
151
:They're having another conference already.
152
:Tickets are on sale for next year,
but Clio has an automated billing
153
:process with enhanced precision.
154
:And one of the things that they
actually talked about at the Clio
155
:con conference this year is that.
156
:One of the issues that a lot of law firms
and lawyers have is that they're not
157
:getting paid on their billing because one,
they're not billing in a timely manner.
158
:So one of the tips that they said
is like, if you want to get paid
159
:on your invoices, you want to build
that client when they're happy.
160
:When they've, they're like, actually
like, Oh, you did a good job for me.
161
:That's the time to send them that
invoice because it's top of mind.
162
:Do not wait three months.
163
:Do not wait two weeks.
164
:Do not wait, you know, six months
later, because by then they've
165
:forgotten about how happy they were
because now they're dealing with
166
:another problem and they're not happy.
167
:And maybe now they don't have the funds.
168
:You know readily available to pay you
as maybe they did before because before
169
:they were allocating for it, right?
170
:So I think it's really important to be
timely when you are billing your clients
171
:And also if you are old school, and I
hope nobody that's listening to this
172
:podcast is this old school but if you're
sending out your invoices and bills in
173
:the mail No, no, no, no, no, no, no,
that is a big no, no, you definitely
174
:need to come to me because we cannot
be doing that in:
175
:Now, I'm going to sum it up.
176
:So all the things that I just
talked about right now, these
177
:are just some of the things.
178
:These are just some of the most day to
day tasks that lawyers and law firms
179
:have to do on a daily basis, right?
180
:And this is where they
can apply AI into these.
181
:And these are all things in
which they can utilize AI.
182
:To actually be more productive,
to save more time, to be more
183
:organized and efficient, right?
184
:So again, to recap, legal research,
document review, predictive analysis,
185
:document drafting, and client
interaction, and precision in billing.
186
:Now, I also want to talk to you guys
about some real life examples and case
187
:studies of how AI is already being
successfully integrated by some law
188
:firms and how people are using it.
189
:So let's talk about a few case studies.
190
:The first one I'm going to
talk about is JP Morgan.
191
:So what they're doing is bulk
contract review at JP Morgan.
192
:So they have an AI powered program
called COIN, C O I N, and this
193
:has been employed since June 2017.
194
:to interpret commercial loan agreements.
195
:And this is work that previously took,
let's say, 360, 000 lawyer hours,
196
:and now it can be done in seconds.
197
:So, J.
198
:P.
199
:Morgan plans to use this technology for
other type of legal documents as well.
200
:So that's one case study in how AI
is being used in the legal realm.
201
:Another case study is Contract Analysis
with Kira Systems and Law Geeks.
202
:So, platforms like Cura Systems allow
lawyers to identify, extract, and
203
:analyze business information that
is contained in large volumes of
204
:contract data for M& A due diligence.
205
:Also, LawGeeks, that's L A W
G E E X, it uses AI to analyze
206
:contracts one at a time.
207
:assisting lawyers in the daily workflow
by identifying particular clauses and
208
:variations and helping them in the review
of standard agreements such as NDAs.
209
:Then, another case study I want to
talk about is utilizing it for legal
210
:research using Ross Intelligence.
211
:So Ross Intelligence has been leveraging
IBM's Watson supercomputer, which
212
:aids in legal research by finding
similar cases almost instantly
213
:compared to traditional methods,
which could previously take hours.
214
:Then, let's talk about predictive
analysis in litigation.
215
:So, for that one, a London law
firm utilized data on outcomes
216
:of 600 cases over 12 months to
create a model for assessing the
217
:viability of personal injury cases.
218
:And furthermore, AI trained on 200
years of Supreme Court records,
219
:and this AI has shown proficiency
in predicting SCOTUS decisions.
220
:outperforming many human experts.
221
:What do you guys think of that?
222
:I think that's something else.
223
:All right, let's keep going.
224
:So then let's talk about
what really what's like the
225
:future forecast of AI, right?
226
:When it comes to the legal industry.
227
:So part of it has to do with
efficiency, cost reduction and accuracy.
228
:So AI is anticipated to automate
routine tasks like document review.
229
:Legal research, contract analysis,
and it's going to free up time for
230
:legal professionals and lawyers
and paralegals to focus on more
231
:strategic aspects of their work.
232
:And that's going to, in turn,
lead to a reduced operational
233
:cost, making legal services more
accessible and cost effective.
234
:I like that.
235
:How do you like those apples?
236
:I think that's pretty amazing.
237
:So, woohoo for that.
238
:Then, it's also...
239
:for legal professionals because AI
tools act as a valuable assistant, which
240
:enables lawyers and law firms to perform
tasks more efficiently and effectively.
241
:And that in turn is going to enhance
productivity and transform the way
242
:legal work is performed, rendering it
to be more efficient and cost effective.
243
:Now you can be more
efficient and cost effective.
244
:That gives you more time back in your day.
245
:And like I always say, time is money.
246
:Now let's talk about ethical
and regulatory considerations.
247
:So, you know, having AI integrated
into legal practices, it also brings
248
:forward ethical and regulatory concerns,
particularly regarding data privacy,
249
:bias in algorithms, and the potential
displacement of certain legal jobs.
250
:So the legal industry will need to
carefully consider these issues when
251
:they are integrating AI into their
practices, because that is very
252
:important in the legal industry.
253
:Now, let's talk about
adoption among law firms.
254
:So a lot of law firms are
already beginning to utilize AI.
255
:So firms like Latham and Watkins, Baker
and McKenzie and Slaughter and May,
256
:they're already adopting AI systems.
257
:So when you think about AI, it's actually
expected to disrupt traditional law firm
258
:business models based on billable hours.
259
:So, I hope you guys found
this episode useful.
260
:And of course, there's other tools
that lawyers can be using as well.
261
:There's like thousands
and thousands of AI tools.
262
:These are just a few that
I've tapped on today.
263
:But if you need help incorporating AI
into your law firm practice, reach out
264
:to me and I would be happy to get on a
