Episode Takeaways

  • The Manual of Arms: The Psalms are not just beautiful poetry; they are spiritual ammunition. When you don't know what to pray, you can use the Psalms as your "Sword of the Spirit" to fight back against the adversary.
  • Claim the Promise: As a mother and the spiritual guardian of your home, you have the right to vocalize scriptural promises over your house. You can literally walk through your home and declare, "No disaster will come near my tent."
  • Rest in the Middle of the Battle: Psalm 23 reminds us that God prepares a table for us in the presence of our enemies. You do not have to wait for the spiritual battle to end to find rest; God is standing guard so you can have peace right now.
  • God is Not Passive: When you cry out during a spiritual attack, God does not sit back passively. As Psalm 18 describes, He parts the heavens, reaches down into the deep waters, and trains your hands for battle.

Recommended Psalms to Pray During Spiritual Attacks

  • The Fortress Prayer (Psalm 91): Use this Psalm as a tactical retreat when you need comprehensive physical and spiritual protection. Claim the promise in verse 10: "No disaster will come near your tent."
  • The Sleepless Night Shield (Psalm 4:8 & Psalm 23): When anxiety and "what-ifs" keep you awake at 2:00 AM, declare Psalm 4:8 aloud: "In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety."
  • The Deliverer's Shout (Psalm 18): Read this Psalm when you feel completely outnumbered, overwhelmed, or enveloped by darkness. Let verses 16-29 remind you that God will draw you out of deep waters and turn your darkness into light!

Reflection Questions

  • When you are too exhausted to form your own prayers, which of the three Psalms shared today feels most relevant to your current situation?
  • Try reading Psalm 91 aloud in your home today. How does vocalizing the Word of God change the spiritual atmosphere of the room?
  • Do you struggle to find peace before a battle is over? How does knowing God has "prepared a table" for you right in the middle of the fight change your perspective?

Hello and welcome to another episode of the Arise Woman of God podcast. I'm your host, Tamara K. Anderson, and today we're diving into the Psalms to find what psalm you pray in a spiritual attack.

As mothers, we are the guardians of our household when the adversary attacks, our peace, our children's identities, our marriages, we do not have to fight him with our own limited strength and God has provided us a manual of arms in the Psalms. Today I'm going to share with you three psalms that have become my own personal Go to Powerful weapons.

First, we're going to look at the fortress prayer or physical protection.

Second, I'm going to give you a powerful psalm for those sleepless nights when you're still awake at 2am and third, the deliverer shout for when you feel completely outnumbered. Let's start with the most comprehensive defensive prayer in the Bible, Psalm 91.

So my friends, when you feel like the world is Closing in, Psalm 91 is your tactical retreat into the arms of God. I want to read you part of this right now, and as I read it, I want you to imagine these verses forming a physical wall around you and your home.

Whosoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I say of the Lord. He is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust.

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find Refuge. His faithfulness will be your shield and buckler. You will not fear terror or the night, nor the arrow that flies by day.

If you say, the Lord is my refuge and make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you. No disaster will come near your tent. Did you hear that? No disaster will come near your tent.

As a mother, you have the right to claim that promise over and around your house. If things feel dark, read those simple words in every room in your house. No disaster will come here.

And then imagine a shield and sweep the darkness from among there and fill it with light. But what about when the attack is internal? When you can't sleep because your mind is spiraling with what ifs about your children or your future?

Come on, ladies. I know I'm not the only one that struggles with this. Use this psalm as your sleepless night shield.

Psalm 4, verse 8 is so powerful, it is my favorite declaration, and it can be used anytime. Before you go to sleep in peace, I will lie down and sleep for you alone. Lord, make me dwell in safety. Isn't that beautiful?

We can imagine God surrounding us and protecting us as we sleep and say those words so powerfully. Then, of course, there is some Psalm 23, which is one of the most well known psalms. It's the one that starts with, the Lord is my shepherd.

But there are some beautiful verses in there. Verses 4 and 5, where it says, even though I walked through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil. That sounds like an enemy, right?

But then this next verse. You prepare a table before me in the presence of mine enemies, and you may be wondering, what does that even mean?

What it means is, the enemy may be standing right in the room, whispering, lies in your mind. But God is so powerful. He says, sit down, eat. I've got this. You don't even have to wait for that battle to end to find rest.

In fact, you can find rest in the presence of the enemy because the good shepherd is standing nigh and keeping guard. Finally, I want to share a psalm that I stumbled upon a couple of months ago, and it has become one of my favorites. And it's Psalm 18.

This is for the mother who feels lost, broken, and completely under siege. In verses 4 and 5, David describes perfectly how we feel when we're being attacked by the adversary. Listen to this. The cords of death entangled me.

The torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.

If that is you today, if you feel enveloped by a darkness that won't leave, listen to how God reacts when you cry out The Bible says that smoke comes from his nostrils and consuming fire from his mouth. He parts the heavens and comes down. He shoots his arrows and scatters the enemy and with great bolts of lightning he routes them.

God is not passive about your pain my friend. He reaches down from on high and he takes you by the hand quote.

He draws you out of deep waters and then look at what happens when you partner with Him. You Lord, keep my lamp burning. My God turns darkness into light. With your help I can advance against a troop. With my God, I can scale a wall.

He trains your hand for battle. He sustains you. Because of him you can overtake those enemies, whether it's depression, addiction, fear until they are destroyed.

You aren't just surviving in Christ, you are overtaking the darkness and you can cast it out in his name. Oh my friends, the Psalms are not just poetry, they are spiritual ammunition like the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.

When you don't know what to say, let King David's Word be your words. Let the Word of God do the fighting for you.
