The Gossip Girl Theme Performed By Steve Marchion.
There was like several overhead shots. And during
Leif:the first overhead shot, our eagle eyed viewers,
Leif:as well as Quentin Tarantino may have noticed one
Leif:of the extras had a missing shoe. She was standing
Leif:there in one heel.
Steve:I didn't notice it. I was looking for it, but I
Steve:didn't notice it. And then you showed me the
Steve:picture and that is pretty funny.
Leif:Hey, appery ciders and all you scandal loving
Leif:listeners out there, you've just tuned into the
Leif:non judging breakfast pod where the coffee is
Leif:strong, the waffles are fresh, and the gossip is
Leif:hotter than ever. My name is Leif and I'm your
Leif:seasoned Gossip Girl veteran.
Steve:And I'm Steve. The newbie, the rookie, the
Steve:greenhorn, the I don't know, leaf. What are we
Steve:saying now that we are in season four? Five?
Leif:I'm not sure, but how relieved were you when you
Leif:found out you weren't carrying my offspring? That
Leif:certainly would have derailed your fairy tale. Not
Leif:to mention biology I can feel again. Well, we'll
Leif:find you an eligible Whitney or a Rockefeller. I'm
Leif:fine with the model. Or witty gay.
Steve:So here's the deal, folks. Leap has been watching
Steve:Gossip Girl since it first aired, and I'm diving
Steve:in for the first time. And together, we are your
Steve:dynamic duo, bringing you all the drama, romance,
Steve:and sometimes questionable fashion choices of this
Steve:iconic 2007 series.
Leif:Bring your magnifying glasses, because each week
Leif:we're dissecting every juicy detail of the show
Leif:one episode at a time. We'll connect the dots,
Leif:uncover, those sneaky little Easter eggs, and of
Leif:course, serve up some piping hot behind the scenes
Leif:tea, and expect some iconic fandom moments too,
Leif:because what's a deep dive without a little drama?
Steve:And since we are all about inclusivity here at the
Steve:non judging breakfast pod, there is always a seat
Steve:for you at the non judging breakfast table. So go
Steve:ahead and grab a mimosa, a cup of coffee, or bake
Steve:up some of Nate's brownies. And let's go ahead and
Steve:get into this.
Leif:All right, let's get into it.
Steve:Sorry, Alif, I did not see the script beforehand
Steve:today. I always look in the one time
Leif:I didn't this week. We're here to talk about
Leif:season five, episode three. the Jewel of Denial.
Leif:Original air date was of course October 10, 2011
Leif:and based on the movie the Jewel of the Nile.
Steve:Yes. Which was the sequel to Romancing the Stone.
Steve:Or. It was the Or. Those two movies went together.
Steve:Michael Douglas, I think. Right.
Leif:Michael Douglas. And Kathy Turner.
Steve:And Kathleen Turner.
Leif:And Danny Devito. Fairly, yes.
Steve:And I feel like I may have seen clips of those,
Steve:but I know my dad watched them. I don't know if I
Steve:ever actually saw the whole movie.
Leif:I have not seen any of it. Came, out in 1985,
Leif:directed by Louis Teague. And the description
Leif:reads, when Joan Wilder is up abducted while on a
Leif:trip along the Nile, her boyfriend Jack Colton and
Leif:pal Ralph rush to rescue her and retrieve a fabled
Leif:jewel. not sure what the connection is, but made a
Leif:good pun at least.
Steve:Yeah, that's what I think the connection was.
Leif:This episode was written by Amanda Lasher. Been
Leif:around since season two. Did Predator J. Gone with
Leif:the Will Sat or anything. And then season three,
Leif:did the Freshman. They shoot Humphreys, don't
Leif:they? The Lady Vanished. It's a dad, dad, dad
Leif:World. And then season four, she did the
Leif:Undergraduates, the Townie, and Pretty in Pink. So
Leif:a lot of funny episodes. And this was a funny
Leif:episode too, as I thought.
Steve:Yeah, yeah.
Leif:She does good comedy stuff.
Steve:Yeah. The light hearted. It seems to be a lot of
Steve:light hearted and often sort of filler plot
Steve:episodes like Big Things Happen, but then also
Steve:it's sort of, expositional, I guess you could say.
Leif:You, had the satyr anything. So that was like the
Leif:big, you know, farcical satyr episode.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:And then you get the fresh bit, and that's where
Leif:Dan and takes Blair to the party, Georgina's
Leif:party, and then ends up hooking up with Georgina.
Leif:and all that hijinks, no headbands in college.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:And of course, the tatty is the road trip with Dan
Leif:and Blair. And then the pretty, of pink is when
Leif:she schemes to have them kissing at the party. And
Leif:everyone sees it on Gossip Girl because of
Leif:Charlie.
Steve:Yeah, yeah.
Leif:This episode was directed by Larry Shaw. This is
Leif:his one and only episode of Gossip Girl. But
Leif:career, mostly, TV from 1987 to 2021 was his most
Leif:recent credit. which is he has, 62 directing
Leif:credits, including stuff like 21, Jump Street, X
Leif:Files, oddly, Lizzie McGuire in there. He worked
Leif:on the Flash Castle. but his most prolific effort
Leif:was 50 episodes of desperate House Alive.
Steve:Oh, all right.
Leif:So I'm sure he's getting paid for that.
Steve:Yeah, yeah.
Leif:Probably got a nice heated pool off of the
Leif:residuals from that show. Yeah, I believe it made
Leif:to 100 episodes.
Steve:Yeah. Oh, I'm pretty sure it did. I think. Pretty
Steve:sure it reached syndication.
Leif:As far as guest stars, today, we have three
Leif:returns. We got Sheila Kelly coming back as Carol
Leif:Rhodes, David Patrick Kelly as Noah Shapiro and
Leif:Jonathan Karp as himself. And, we also have
Leif:newcomer Marina Squirciati. Squirciati. She's
Leif:introduced as Alessandra Steele.
Steve:Mm. Mm.
Leif:Why don't you go ahead and read that vulture
Leif:recap?
Steve:many women may indulge in princess fantasies, but
Steve:for the ladies of Gossip Girl, they sometimes turn
Steve:real. In last night's episode, Lily was liberated
Steve:from the house arrest spell by Prince Rufus, who
Steve:magically whisked off her ankle bracelet in time
Steve:for her to go to the big ball. As for her niece,
Steve:fake Charlie Rhodes, AKA Ivy, Lily is really about
Steve:one thing. The girl has some serious mental
Steve:issues. It's like every time she sees a sequined
Steve:dress or a pair of Louboutins, she goes into some
Steve:kind fugue state. And when she snaps back to
Steve:reality, she finds she's dug herself deeper into a
Steve:situation that will get her arrested if not
Steve:institutionalized. Everything is all sparkly here.
Steve:She explains helplessly to the woman she is
Steve:blackmailing in order to assume a false identity.
Steve:Don't go into the sparkles, Ivy. Ah. too late. In
Steve:the meantime, Blair pursues her Grace Kelly
Steve:fantasy at all costs by telling Louis the baby she
Steve:carrying is his. Although the final scene suggests
Steve:she's going to have some explaining to do when the
Steve:kid pops out wearing an ascot and drinking its own
Steve:celebratory scotch. Ah.
Leif:yes. Do you think the baby is Chuck's?
Steve:I. I don't think she knows. First of all, I don't
Steve:know if she even opened that letter was kind of
Steve:the impression I got at the end. But, yeah, if
Steve:anything, it seemed like it's Chucks. Like, it
Steve:totally seemed like it, but yeah.
Leif:Well, act one begins with a montage of. We see
Leif:Blair's paternity results are put into an
Leif:envelope. Ivy and Serena arrive back in the Upper
Leif:east side. Nate is putting on a tie, and Gossip
Leif:Girl has this to say. They say the only way to
Leif:conquer your fear is to face what you fear the
Leif:most. You must walk into the belly of the beast
Leif:and risk the possibility of failure. But try to
Leif:hide from the fear, and you risk it swallowing you
Leif:whole.
Steve:Yep.
Leif:So we see Blair is reading a biography on Grace
Leif:Kelly, and Dorota knocks at our door because the
Leif:doctor's office called to tell her the results are
Leif:ready to be picked up. But right away, we see
Leif:Blair doing her classic head in the sand routine.
Leif:And a worried and desperate Dorota calls Dan for
Leif:help and getting Blair to face the truth. He says
Leif:he will be there after he runs an errand.
Steve:So, to get this DNA test, isn't she going to need
Steve:DNA from both of them? Or are we just assuming
Steve:that she had Chuck's DNA lying around somewhere in
Steve:her, you know.
Leif:Well, she'd only necessarily need one.
Steve:Yeah, I guess.
Leif:And that is pretty easy to get something like
Leif:Louis hair or something.
Steve:Yeah, yeah.
Leif:Gross.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah.
Leif:But it is dangerous to do it while she's still
Leif:pregnant. From what I understand, it's only really
Leif:done in emergencies. Incestual rape or something
Leif:like that.
Steve:Because they also need the DNA from the baby,
Steve:which means you have to.
Leif:That's what I'm saying. It's dangerous.
Steve:Exactly.
Leif:They typically only do that in emergencies.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Or.
Steve:On the Upper east side,
Leif:Serena and Ivy get off the elevator in the Waldorf
Leif:apartment. Dorota enthusiastically welcomes Serena
Leif:home, while, Ivy hangs back and ignores a call
Leif:from Carol. She then deletes her phone book. For
Leif:some reason, when Serena sees the worried look on
Leif:Ivy's face, she promises Carol won't find her,
Leif:thanks to Cece's help.
Steve:Good job, Cece. Who's clearly never seen a picture
Steve:of her own granddaughter. Like, damn, that's.
Steve:That's a strange.
Leif:Well, this family apparently just randomly ignores
Leif:each other's calls.
Steve:Yeah, that's true, too. Yeah.
Leif:Yeah, I was ignoring Cece's calls. Yeah. I don't
Leif:know why.
Steve:Oh, that's why she was calling.
Leif:And of course, Cece was ignoring Carol's calls.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:At the Empire, Dan has apparently gifted Chuck a
Leif:puppy in an effort to get him to feel something.
Leif:Chuck is reluctant, but Dan doesn't have time to
Leif:take the dog back because he has to persuade Noah
Leif:Shapiro to help him kill his book. Chuck
Leif:generously offers to lend him some protective
Leif:sports gear and help his efforts. Nate is
Leif:surprised to see Dan and the dog at the suite.
Leif:Chuck lies to him about the dog, and Dan lies
Leif:about why he's there before leaving.
Steve:Although, you know, it would be something Dan
Steve:would do to go wish Nate a, good first day. Like,
Steve:their bromance does. Like, Robin was like, that's
Steve:a weird thing to say. And I'm like, is it, though?
Steve:Like, that is just such a Dan and Nate thing to
Steve:do.
Leif:But, yeah, Chuck's comment about the, knee pads.
Steve:This is. Yeah.
Leif:Nate tells Chuck he should consider keeping the
Leif:dog because he won't be around to keep Chuck
Leif:company as much with a job and school. Chuck
Leif:explains that Diana hired Nate for his skills in
Leif:the bedroom, not the boardroom.
Steve:Yes, Nate, sweetie, I was going to get to this
Steve:later. But you're a prostitute. It's kind of what
Steve:you have been doing since season two.
Leif:Yeah. Yeah, but I want to take that. So I want to
Leif:figure out when they officially stop mentioning
Leif:school because. So this is 503. And he mentions
Leif:that Nate is still going to school apparently.
Steve:Is it? But.
Leif:I don't think we actually see them on campus at
Leif:all this season.
Steve:Yeah, we. Yeah, because we have. We know that
Steve:Serena is not going back to school because she's
Steve:working, but I feel like she's the only one that's
Steve:addressed it at all.
Leif:But Nate. But Nate says in the scene that he is.
Leif:He's working and going to school, so.
Steve:Right. Yeah. I'm saying other than this, I don't
Steve:think we've addressed it from any. From Blair or
Steve:Dan even. Has Dan mentioned NYU at all?
Leif:I don't think so.
Steve:Yeah, I don't think so.
Leif:Blair welcomes Serena home and after getting over
Leif:the surprise of Charlie, allows Charlie to stay in
Leif:the guest room. The three sit down to breakfast
Leif:with Dorota hovering. Serena excitedly mentions
Leif:that she and Blair finally get to model together
Leif:at the Jenny Packham show tonight. Blair says she
Leif:unfortunately won't be able to attend. As she
Leif:walks away, Dorota implies that now she can go
Leif:pick up the results, but Blaire says she is going
Leif:shopping instead. After Blair and Dorota leave the
Leif:room, Serena and Charlie make plans to go talk to
Leif:Lily.
Steve:Dorota just being cold blooded when she comes out
Steve:and she's like, oh, the best part about being
Steve:pregnant. Knowing who the dad is. Burn. Just
Steve:burned. It's so brutal.
Leif:Dan meets with his former mentor, Noah Shapiro,
Leif:who is just as much of a cliched dickhead as ever.
Leif:Shapiro's advice is to let the book come out and
Leif:disappear. No one is going to care about it.
Leif:Shapiro's agent, Alessandra Steel, walks in and
Leif:gets introduced to Dan. Dan agrees to the plan,
Leif:but asks that Shapiro not tell anyone and leaves.
Leif:Shapiro asks Alessandro to wait while he makes a
Leif:call to Jonathan Karp.
Steve:Not much to say at this point other than I love
Steve:that he's immediately calling Dan a coward for not
Steve:wanting to release this.
Leif:What was your initial thought here? Do you think
Leif:he was going to try to steal the book for real?
Steve:Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. When he first called, I was
Steve:like, oh, he's going to totally steal that book.
Steve:which is what I thought he was doing all along.
Steve:Like I. Yeah, I didn't think it was a setup. I
Steve:thought he was like, I thought he Saw money signs
Steve:and was going for it. They had me on this whole
Steve:storyline.
Leif:What do you think of Alessandra?
Steve:Well, I also. The instant that they were
Steve:introduced, the second she was given a name, I'm
Steve:like, oh, this is Dan's new love interest. Oh,
Steve:they're gonna hook up. Okay.
Leif:I will confirm that she is going to be a recurring
Leif:character for basically this whole book storyline.
Steve:Yeah, it really felt like she was going to. Well,
Steve:and the way that he introduced everyone at the
Steve:table, that it was like, this is your publishing
Steve:team, you know, and she was there. So I just kind
Steve:of.
Leif:I think everyone else was actually real people.
Leif:Jonathan Carpenter.
Steve:Many of them.
Leif:Jonathan Carpenter, once again being horrible at
Leif:acting.
Steve:Yes. Yes.
Leif:Just not knowing at all what to do in the scene.
Leif:He just looks so uncomfortable.
Steve:Waiting for him to put his hands in front of his
Steve:face. But I did think that there was instant.
Steve:They're trying to show us chemistry with
Steve:Alessandra and Dan immediately. I also thought.
Steve:And I think I thought this may be more toward the
Steve:end, but the switch out again of Noah for the
Steve:other guy is an actual writer, right?
Leif:Yeah.
Steve:The guy that we saw last night,
Leif:Jeremiah Harris, it was actually Jay McElriney
Leif:here. McElroney.
Steve:Yeah. So I think I also got the impression of,
Steve:like, okay, we need to get the actor back in
Steve:because this is going to be a longer storyline
Steve:that we don't want to necessarily push this non
Steve:actor through that. We want to. We want to get
Steve:someone with some chops to finish this storyline
Steve:out.
Leif:Rufus is at the penthouse cleaning up breakfast
Leif:for two and tells Lily he's late. Is meeting with
Leif:panic. Lily is already lonely after one week of
Leif:Eric being gone to college, but is cheered when
Leif:reminded that her house arrest ends in one month.
Leif:And Serena gets home today.
Steve:Yeah, good for her.
Leif:Good for Rufus. Still working. I would be a
Leif:working man again.
Steve:Yeah, yeah. And being out there with panic and
Steve:doing all this stuff. yeah. When. Yeah, the
Steve:breadwinner.
Leif:Now, let's not get carried away, right?
Steve:She says as she pats him on the head. Who's the
Steve:big breadwinner now?
Leif:Pays the electric bill with his whole salary,
Steve:yet my bank account is still full.
Leif:After Rufus leaves, Lily, gets a call from Carol,
Leif:who asks if Lily has heard from Charlie. Carol
Leif:thinks Charlie might be on the west coast, but
Leif:Cece won't return her calls. Lily says she will
Leif:ask Serena, who just got back from la. Carol is
Leif:intrigued that Serena is also in California. And
Leif:we see Carol holding a photocopy of the check Ivy
Leif:wrote For the apartment she and Serena were going
Leif:to share. Carol says she is going to come visit.
Steve:Yeah. Okay. Carol, the whole time I was thinking,
Steve:what are you going to do? You're going to show up
Steve:and tell your family that he defrauded them? Like,
Steve:you're. You're Carol?
Leif:Well, I mean, presumably, she just assumed that,
Leif:using her rose charisma, she was going to
Leif:manipulate Ivy into just backing down, which she
Leif:probably would have if she didn't get that booster
Leif:from Blair.
Steve:Yeah, you're. Yeah, you're right. But it's also
Steve:like, you're the one that started this whole con,
Steve:in the first place.
Leif:Yeah. If you at her, then you're going down, too.
Leif:Yeah, but she's an older, and she's more
Leif:experienced, and she. Like I said, if Flair didn't
Leif:have that conversation, she likely would have been
Leif:a manipulator out to leave.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah, I totally agree.
Leif:Dan calls Blair and asks if she has picked up the
Leif:test results. Blair says she's walking into the
Leif:doctor's office now and has to go. Blair goes to
Leif:enter a store, but it is revealed Dan was
Leif:following her and steps in front of the door. Dan
Leif:ushers it off, presumably in the direction of the
Leif:doctor's office. Dan sees a Gossip Girl blast and
Leif:looks perturbed.
Steve:I like what comes after this more.
Leif:but I like how he tracked her dad and.
Steve:But. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Leif:I just kind of, like, grabs her and it starts.
Steve:This is what I was thinking of. The phone call.
Steve:Right, Right. No, I love that when. This is the
Steve:part that I was thinking of that he calls her on
Steve:the phone, and she's like.
Leif:Catches her in the light.
Steve:He's walking in right now, and he just steps right
Steve:in front of her
Leif:before she walks in the door, pulls her away.
Leif:She's like, oh, yeah. What?
Steve:Yeah, yeah, yeah. As he leads her away, you know,
Steve:like. But. And. And also, I just thought it was
Steve:very classic, the two of them. Right.
Leif:Yeah.
Steve:And it also is so classic, Dan, and also so
Steve:classic, like Joe Goldberg of him, that he does
Steve:kind of stalk the people he loves. Like, he would
Steve:always be able to know where Serena was, and he
Steve:always seems to know where Blair is.
Leif:Fair. Everyone's on the spotted map in this
Leif:universe, so everyone knows where everyone is.
Steve:True. Yeah.
Leif:And this is the gospel girl blast that has Dan,
Leif:all worried as we go to the first break. Turns out
Leif:that the rumored UES novel is fact, not fiction.
Leif:And I have the inside scoop on who the author is.
Leif:Patience, pets. Your answer is coming we move into
Leif:Act 2 at the Spectator. Diana explains her plans
Leif:to rebrand the newspaper, starting with sponsoring
Leif:the Jenny Packham show tonight. Nate is ready to
Leif:work, but as Chuck said, Diana has a different
Leif:kind of work in mind. When Nate has a bit of
Leif:performance anxiety, Diana promptly fires and
Leif:dismisses the entire staff.
Steve:Hey, I'm gonna run this archaic business and have
Steve:absolutely no one involved who knows what they're
Steve:doing,
Leif:try to get this business off the ground. But I now
Leif:have to hire an entire staff.
Steve:Yeah, but now I have to hire an entirely new staff
Steve:so I can bang this dude here in the office right
Steve:now.
Leif:This 20 year old.
Steve:She's not a good business person. No, I'm gonna
Steve:say she's bad at business.
Leif:Dan and Blair exit the clinic, envelope in hand,
Leif:but she is still hesitant to open it because of
Leif:the obvious implications. You get it?
Steve:The implication.
Leif:She promises to open it as soon as she finishes
Leif:her interview with Halloween magazine this
Leif:afternoon. Dan says he has an errand of his own,
Leif:but will meet her back at her apartment later to
Leif:be there when she opens the results.
Steve:Yeah, again, she's procrastinating it and going
Steve:off on it.
Leif:But Dan being there, being a supportive friend.
Steve:Yep. Dan always being who she needs. Good job,
Steve:Dan.
Leif:We shift to the penthouse just as Serena finishes
Leif:telling Lily all about her summer. After the
Leif:story, Lily asks if Serena has heard from Charlie.
Leif:As Carol is worried, Serena is surprised. Lily
Leif:hasn't talked to Cece yet, but we learn she was
Leif:ignoring her calls. Serena says that Carol is
Leif:trying to cut Charlie off, and Charlie is in fact,
Leif:19 and can leave home if she wants. Just then, Ivy
Leif:gets off the elevator and begins eavesdropping on
Leif:the conversation. Lily brings up the mental health
Leif:issues and that she isn't going to participate in
Leif:deceiving Carol. Ivy turns around and gets back on
Leif:the elevator.
Steve:Yeah, I mean, I. Your instincts are good. Go to
Steve:Oregon. Go find Sweetie Max out in Portland and
Steve:take this cash out the trust fund. Just cash.
Steve:Every last dime of it. Dip and be gone. Yep,
Steve:disappear.
Leif:Also, since when is Lily not going to want to
Leif:deceive Carol? That seems out of character.
Steve:Yeah, when it's convenient to the plot.
Leif:Fair enough. Blair is being interviewed, and when
Leif:the conversation turns to family, Blair learns
Leif:that Louis answers indicated he wasn't ready for
Leif:fatherhood, which puts more doubt in Blair's mind
Leif:as the interview wraps up.
Steve:Yeah, the whole, like, oh, well, when are you
Steve:going to have kids, since you're not even married
Steve:yet, but I'm just going to throw out the kid
Steve:question. And don't worry, I'm gonna answer for
Steve:you. I'm gonna. Since someone else answered for
Steve:you, I'll go ahead and read you that.
Leif:I mean, that's absolutely a question hello.
Leif:Magazine would ask. Yeah, I mean, it's an
Leif:interview about her getting married.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:It's, pretty natural question to ask.
Steve:Yeah, but it is personal.
Leif:but they're celebrities.
Steve:Yeah, I know. I know.
Leif:Dan goes back to Shapiro's office, only to find
Leif:Alessandra. Instead, she tells Dan about Shapiro's
Leif:new book and shows him a few pages on a tablet.
Leif:And Dan quickly realizes Shapiro is taking credit
Leif:for his book.
Steve:I read the screenshot of the one page that we get
Steve:to see of, inside.
Leif:Dan describes Claire Carlisle as small yet giant,
Leif:young yet adult. Girlish, yet macho.
Steve:Yeah. and this is blowing up the upper. Is blowing
Steve:up the publishing industry right now.
Leif:Yeah. Should have got someone other than intern to
Leif:write this.
Steve:Yeah. Or at least copy and paste. Copy and paste
Steve:HP Lovecraft, like you did for Blair's writing
Steve:sample. So that. So that we know that you're not
Steve:trying. Yeah, Just the suspension of disbelief
Steve:would be a little bit better.
Leif:They also give you the first hit in this scene
Leif:that it's a setup because Alessandra lets Dan
Leif:overhear about the party and where it's going to
Leif:be.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, yeah. Honestly, I chalked that up for
Steve:a bad assistant, because tell me, if that wasn't
Steve:just an assistant, I don't know why instead of
Steve:agent, I put her at, ah, intern in my head. Let's
Steve:just also say that if she was an assistant of some
Steve:sort,
Leif:there is an assistant screwing up in this episode.
Leif:We're going to get to it.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, but I'm just saying that that's what
Steve:this was to me.
Leif:This is what Gossip Girl had to say about it. Poor
Leif:lonely boy. You just learned the true meaning of
Leif:publish or perish. We go into Act 3 on the street.
Leif:Ivy is leaving a voicemail from Max saying she
Leif:made a mistake and she's catching a bus to
Leif:Portland. She quickly ends the call when Sarina
Leif:walks up. Ivy tells Serena that she's leaving
Leif:because of what Lily said. Serena hugs who she
Leif:thinks is her cousin, but asks her to return their
Leif:tickets to the show since they won't be attending.
Steve:It's almost a shame she's not her cousin, because,
Steve:like, if she was her cousin, Serena's a little
Steve:manipulative, as Serena always is, but she does
Steve:want nothing else but just to shower her with love
Steve:and Kindness.
Leif:This is probably the best female relationship
Leif:Serena's had in the show.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's the most positive. She
Steve:wants to be me. Oh, yeah, I get it.
Leif:Diana comes back to the office and tells Nate she
Leif:was able to avoid the show, being canceled for
Leif:confidential confidentiality reasons by offering
Leif:to confiscate all the cell phones at the door. She
Leif:wants to celebrate with another fuck session, but
Leif:Nate wants to be taken seriously. He says he can
Leif:probably still get that internship from his mom
Leif:and is about to quit when Diana sits him down and
Leif:assures him he can work and play here. And she
Leif:gives him his first assignment.
Steve:Oh, poor, dumb Nate.
Leif:It was such, like, sitting him down like a child.
Leif:That he is.
Steve:M. Yeah, yeah.
Leif:Oh, it's okay. You'll be fine.
Steve:An older woman sitting him down and talking to him
Steve:like he's a child is Nate's kink so little
Steve:sweetie.
Leif:Blair is back in her room, staring at the unopened
Leif:envelope. She opens Gossip Girl to distract
Leif:herself, but is even more confused when she sees a
Leif:blast about Chuck turning a dog over to the pound.
Leif:She slams the laptop closed and gets a text from
Leif:Dan. It says he is running late, but urges her to
Leif:open the envelope. She instead sees the party
Leif:invites and calls Dorota to get her dress ready.
Leif:Dorota is confused why Blair is blowing off a date
Leif:with Louis later and also Dan, who is coming over
Leif:to help open the results. When Dorota walks out of
Leif:the room, Blair tears the envelope into multiple
Leif:pieces and tosses it in the bin.
Steve:I'm just bored with this because it's just so
Steve:much. I've just seen this so many times, you know,
Steve:it just didn't feel sincere. It was like, oh,
Steve:someone's gonna find the letter. Tape it back
Steve:together. Yeah. Make her open it.
Leif:Did you catch, the caption under the Chuck blast
Leif:about the dog that
Steve:it said, we always know he knew he was a sick
Steve:puppy.
Leif:Yeah.
Steve:Was the only thing that I saw
Leif:spotted Chuck Bass sending his sweet guy off to
Leif:the pound. We always do. Bass was one sick puppy.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah. Now, in the books, he had a pet
Steve:monkey, right?
Leif:Yes.
Steve:Okay, interesting.
Leif:And I. I'm blanking on the name, but it was, like,
Leif:something, like, completely normal. It was like,
Leif:just a normal person name. Ivy arrives at the pre
Leif:show to return the tickets, but finds out Serena
Leif:set her up to be a model in the show. She's
Leif:hesitant at first, but when she sees the dress she
Leif:gets to wear, she lets herself get sucked further
Leif:into the.
Steve:Yeah. Because everything Sparkles.
Leif:Here I thought she was going to turn into Gal in
Leif:there.
Steve:She grabs it and runs into a cave. Yes.
Leif:Rufus arrives home at the penthouse and surprises
Leif:Lily with dues that he was able to get her early
Leif:release from her house arrest and can go to the
Leif:show this very night.
Steve:This, to me, was the writers are bored with this
Steve:storyline and they want Lily out and about again.
Steve:Wow.
Leif:Nine months.
Steve:That was going to take her all the way into, what,
Steve:mid season? She won't be available for the
Steve:wedding. Oh, man, we better. We better, We better
Steve:get her out of jail.
Leif:But I got to ask, what was Rufus doing in multiple
Leif:meetings with the lawyers? Is he researching case
Leif:law?
Steve:Yeah, I had that thought, too. Of how many
Steve:meetings do you need? But of course, the other
Steve:side of
Leif:that is, was he taking the offers to the judge
Leif:each time to pay him off?
Steve:Right.
Leif:Well.
Steve:Well, I was going to say, like, I'm an Upper east
Steve:side lawyer, right? I'm going to try to get as
Steve:many billing hours as I possibly can. And this
Steve:fucking numbskull who doesn't know shit about any
Steve:of this, who's managing a, band right now. Yeah,
Steve:okay. Yeah, we're going to have to meet at least
Steve:once a week for the next six weeks for me to be
Steve:able to get this through, but I'll be able to do
Steve:it. Why is this all scheduled in billable hours?
Leif:Dan goes back to the Empire to get advice from
Leif:Chuck now that he thinks Shapiro is stealing
Leif:credit for his book. Chuck calmly lays out Dan's
Leif:two options. And Dan gets a text from Doroda
Leif:letting him know Blair didn't open the letter and
Leif:went to the fashion show instead.
Steve:Yeah, good advice, Chuck. Chuck's just like, look,
Steve:you're either gonna fade into oblivion or you're
Steve:gonna go burn it all down. But, like, fucking make
Steve:a decision.
Leif:Yeah. And, ah, this is what Gossip Girl has to
Leif:say. Careful, Dan. He who runs from fear falls
Leif:into the pit. Looks like you're about to take a
Leif:tumble. We move into Act 4. Blair checks her phone
Leif:at the front door and intercepts the assistant
Leif:from earlier and demands to be taken into
Leif:wardrobe. In the confusion, the assistant fails to
Leif:check in Ivy's phone and just leaves it on the
Leif:desk. Yep, another bad assistant.
Steve:Fucking assistant.
Leif:Nate and Diana arrive at the party, and Nate
Leif:points out the targets of his assignment. A
Leif:congressman and his wife.
Steve:Yeah, why don't you go interview them, Nate? I'm
Steve:sure it's all in your best interest. Right now.
Leif:Blair is backstage with the assistant, who is
Leif:explaining a deconstructed fashion show when Blair
Leif:once again spots and is confused by the presence
Leif:of Charlie. She sees the assistant leave and Blair
Leif:has a conversation with Charlie about her mother
Leif:forcing her out of New York. However, Blair's
Leif:words of encouragement give Ivy the confidence
Leif:that she can fight back against Carol.
Steve:I love this scene in general, I love Blair coming
Steve:to terms with her shit while also laying out for
Steve:Ivy that like, yeah, your mom may have stuff on
Steve:you, but don't you have shit on your mom? Like,
Steve:girl, if you're gonna live in this world.
Leif:Mutual assured destruction.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, you. Yeah, exactly. But. And if you
Steve:want to play in this Upper east side world, girl,
Steve:you have got to fucking learn how to play the
Steve:game.
Leif:You gotta, be willing to make that nuclear option.
Steve:Yes.
Leif:Nate is interviewing the congressman and his
Leif:socialite wife. However, when he asks about the
Leif:trip Diana told him about, it, turns out the
Leif:congressman was with another woman. When the
Leif:couple starts arguing, Nate sees that Diana still
Leif:has her phone and is recording the fight. Even
Leif:Nate M. Is smart enough to realize he was played.
Steve:Yeah. Yes, you were, Nate. Oh, sweetie, sweetie,
Steve:go. Go work for the senator. You have options. And
Steve:this is not a good one. What's your salary here?
Steve:What's your salary?
Leif:He's an intern.
Steve:Yeah, exactly. Like he's probably. But he know
Steve:that he's getting paid in sex. He's. He's a
Steve:prostitute.
Leif:Which is better than we would have gotten at the
Leif:mayor's office, which would be nothing.
Steve:Yeah, that's true. That's true.
Leif:Of course, last time you went to intern at the
Leif:mayor's office, she tried to hit on him or never.
Steve:Oh, right. Yeah.
Leif:So I think that's just going to be his fate. No
Leif:matter where he goes. Unless he goes to work like
Leif:an all male. Of course they'll get all by a gay
Leif:guy.
Steve:Yeah, but, but he couldn't work with the intern at
Steve:the mayor's office because she was of an
Steve:appropriate age.
Leif:I think it was the mayor.
Steve:Oh, was it the mayor? I thought it was someone in
Steve:the mayor's office, but I do remember what you're
Steve:talking about.
Leif:I think it was implied that it was definitely like
Leif:another older woman.
Steve:Oh, okay. Yeah, I think you're right.
Leif:Rufus and Lily arrive and check their phones. As
Leif:they walk away, we see Lily miss a call from
Leif:Serena. Once they enter the party proper, Lily
Leif:feels everyone is watching and whispering about
Leif:her. However, Rufus is quickly there to reassure
Leif:her.
Steve:Yeah, good job, Rufus. Like Rufus. Despite my
Steve:feelings towards the writer's motives for all
Steve:this, Rufus came through on this episode, Rufus
Steve:came through for his wife.
Leif:Yeah, he's doing good. The show begins, and the
Leif:models walk from the stage out into the party to
Leif:show off their gowns. Ivy and her dress appear to
Leif:be a hit, but Charlie is surprised to turn around
Leif:and find Lily at the show. Ivy begs Lily not to
Leif:tell Carol, but as Lily points out, Carol is
Leif:already here. She sees Ivy and silently signals
Leif:her over for a private chat.
Steve:Yeah, I like how Lily reacted to seeing Charlie,
Steve:how she was excited to see her, you know? and,
Steve:yeah, but now we go on to the next part of this.
Leif:It's Blair's turn, but as soon as she leaves the
Leif:stage, Dan steps in to replace her escort. He
Leif:brought the envelope somehow glued back together
Leif:by Dorota. The two fight over the envelope, and
Leif:during the scuffle, Blair pushes Dan into a
Leif:waiter, causing a scene.
Steve:This is what their second physical altercation
Steve:that caused a scene at a big event, at least.
Steve:Yeah, because there's the one at the W event that
Steve:they were wrestling over the. Something.
Leif:Yes. And of course, in, this scene, there's like
Leif:several overhead shots. And during the first
Leif:overhead shot, our eagle eyed viewers, as well as
Leif:Quentin Tarantino may have noticed one of the
Leif:extras had a missing shoe. She was standing there
Leif:in one heel.
Steve:I didn't notice it. I was looking for it, but I
Steve:didn't notice it. And then you showed me the
Steve:picture, and that is pretty funny.
Leif:Quentin Tarantino didn't miss it. Say there. You
Leif:know the Leo meme.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, yeah. The AI in the Dungeon Crawler
Steve:Carl series also would not miss that. And for
Steve:anyone reading that, you understand the the AI Has
Steve:a foot fetish.
Leif:I don't know if that makes me more interested or
Leif:less interest to read that.
Steve:At the end of the show, I actually want to play a
Steve:clip from the book, because I'm listening to the
Steve:audiobook and it is relevant to the show.
Leif:Okay, this is what Gossip Girl says as we go to
Leif:the break. OB Your refusal to find out who the
Leif:father has made you to cause one mother of a
Leif:scene. We move into Act 5. Diana explains to Nate
Leif:that she is going to try and replace Gossip Girl,
Leif:but Nate points out that everyone will know it's
Leif:her if they release the footage of the
Leif:congressman. Nate then accidentally gives her the
Leif:idea to go through everyone's confiscated phones
Leif:to find their secrets. I guess passwords still
Leif:aren't a thing in this universe. Diana bullies
Leif:Nate into going along with the plan. However, when
Leif:Diana isn't looking, Nate sets Blair and Dan's
Leif:phones aside. Such a good friend.
Steve:Yeah, Nate, first of all, okay, like, he makes a
Steve:flippant comment about why don't you just take
Steve:their phones? But then her reaction of like, yes,
Steve:that's the play. Oh, man, I'm gonna make. This is
Steve:such a good way to do journalism, is steal all of
Steve:these people's phones, who certainly won't notice
Steve:that we've taken all of the phones.
Leif:Well, she's not trying to do journalism. She's
Leif:trying to replace Gossip Girl as a scandal rag.
Steve:Right. And also, you're trying to replace Gossip
Steve:Girl, but you're going after senators or whatever
Steve:like Gossip Girl does. Fucking kids.
Leif:Yeah, expand that marketing. Yeah, expand that
Leif:market, baby.
Steve:Yeah. But also just her enthusiasm, Nate, being
Steve:like, oh, man. Well, I guess I'm just going to
Steve:steal these phones now. And just like, what the
Steve:fuck is wrong with you, Nate?
Leif:You're going along with just a poorly written
Leif:character played by a not great actor.
Steve:Yeah, yeah. I mean, she. If I remember correctly,
Steve:she's a model turned actor. That. She was a model
Steve:that basically got the gig in Austin Powers.
Steve:Austin Powers.
Leif:She had been in a couple things before that, but,
Leif:yeah, she was mainly a model.
Steve:Okay.
Leif:But now she has just a very weird relationship
Leif:with her son.
Steve:Oh, I think I knew that, too. Yeah.
Leif:He was like, her personal photographer for
Leif:Instagram for, like, the past, like, since, like,
Leif:he was, like, 14 or something. And he actually is
Leif:got into film himself and directed his first
Leif:feature film, which contains a sex scene with his
Leif:mom.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Leif:Awkward.
Steve:Yeah. No, no, no. It's just art, guys.
Leif:Just lift your leg a little bit, Mom.
Steve:Yeah. for this, I'm also going to serve as
Steve:intimacy coordinator for this shoot, Mom. So
Leif:backstage, Carol tells Ivy to the show is over and
Leif:it's time to pack up and go back to Flor, Florida.
Leif:But Ivy has other plans and turns the blackmail
Leif:back around on Carol. Ivy says she likes the
Leif:sparkle of this world and a family that actually
Leif:cares about her.
Steve:The sparkle. It's the goddamn sparkle. She is
Steve:right that she has a family that, like, really
Steve:does care about her.
Leif:Yeah.
Steve:Which is funny because of, how dysfunctional of a
Steve:family the Vanders, Vander, Woodson, Rhodes, Klaus
Steve:Humphrey, Basses are. They do show up for each
Steve:other usually. And they do love each other. So.
Steve:Yeah, I think it's actually. I think it's nice for
Steve:Ivy. It's, like, good. I'm kind of on Team Ivy of,
Steve:like, I hope this lasts as long as she can make it
Steve:last because, like, like, these people deserve to
Steve:have their money stolen from them by some, like,
Steve:nobody who found their way in. And also, it just
Steve:seems like it's good for everybody.
Leif:It almost seems like Ivy could, I mean, she likes
Leif:the money, but I think she likes the family just
Leif:as much.
Steve:Yeah, no, that's that. Exactly that. She. That
Steve:she. She never gets greedy with the money. She
Steve:hasn't asked for anything. She hasn't tried to
Steve:spend anything.
Leif:She said she's going to get Carol back into the
Leif:trust, so, she's, Yeah, walking that line.
Steve:Yeah, I wouldn't let Carol back into the trust.
Steve:No, that put Carol on an allowance. That's what
Steve:you do with Carol.
Leif:Outside, Dan chases down Blair and apologizes to
Leif:her for being pushy about the results. He admits
Leif:he was using her problems to avoid his own.
Leif:However, Blair admits she turned to Dan
Leif:specifically because she knew he wouldn't let her
Leif:worst instincts rule her in this. Dan hands her
Leif:the letter one last time and walks away.
Steve:Yeah, it was a nice scene with them, and I like
Steve:that they had the whole, like, if you face yours,
Steve:I'll face mine. They're. They have a good
Steve:partnership like that. Also, I get taping back
Steve:the. The letter, but why would you tape the
Steve:envelope, too? Like, that just seems like more.
Leif:Girona wasn't supposed to see it first. That's why
Leif:she matches. I didn't read it. Gossip Girl takes
Leif:us to the final break with. There once was a
Leif:princess Bee undone by the question, who's the
Leif:daddy? But it's time to find out. Will it be Chuck
Leif:or will it be Louie? We move into the epilogue.
Leif:Blair shows up at the Empire and lets Chuck know
Leif:that she is pregnant and he is not the father.
Leif:Blair is introduced to Monkey, who Chuck has
Leif:decided to keep. Blair's parting words are that
Leif:there was a part of her that wanted the baby to be
Leif:Chuck's.
Steve:Robin was like, that's a weird thing to say. And
Steve:I'm like, it's a very chair thing to say. It's. It
Steve:is.
Leif:It's that whole tortured forever.
Steve:It is right in line with their up relationship.
Steve:Then what's that? What is it that. That. That Nate
Steve:says earlier on when. When Chuck says something
Steve:like, no one understands.
Leif:Yeah, because you're not normal.
Steve:Yeah, because you're not normal. Because it's not
Steve:natural.
Leif:But, yeah, so you said earlier you think it is.
Leif:Chuck, she's lying.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah, I think she's lying. I think she's
Steve:lying. But she wants the fairy tale, and I think
Steve:that's what that line is? This fairy tale is
Steve:complicated that she really wants that she's found
Steve:someone who loves her to the moon. Right. And he's
Steve:royalty. And she loves him too.
Leif:Eddie's virile.
Steve:Eddie's virile. Yeah, we know that too. So he
Steve:makes her happy, but there's still that missing
Steve:something. But also it's everything she ever
Steve:wanted. So, like, yeah, I get, like, it is
Steve:complicated, Blair, but I also don't think it's
Steve:her kid. His. I think it's Chuck's. I don't think
Steve:it's Blair's.
Leif:It's Chuck and Louise.
Steve:Yeah. Twist.
Leif:Dan shows up at Shapiro's celebration who claims
Leif:Dan Humphrey was his inspiration for the main
Leif:character of Inside side, Dylan Hunter. Dan has
Leif:had enough and claims the book as his own.
Leif:However, it turns out that it was actually what
Leif:Shapiro had planned all along, and it seems like
Leif:everyone was in on it.
Steve:Yeah. And, it's good that he wasn't a complete
Steve:piece of shit. And then he's actually trying to.
Steve:To boost his.
Leif:His first actual piece of mentoring.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, yeah. Without just getting him a gig
Steve:spying on somebody outside of his league. So,
Steve:yeah, I'm a little nervous for Dan with this, but
Steve:it looks like he's getting his book published.
Leif:It's published. as we saw at the final scene
Leif:there, it is published.
Steve:Yeah, it is published.
Leif:Back at the penthouse, Lily, Rufus, Ivy and Carol
Leif:are toasting second chances. Lily invites Ivy to
Leif:stay in Serena's old room, and Carol is reluctant
Leif:to let that happen, but doesn't have any real
Leif:argument. Ivy hugs Carol so they can have a
Leif:conversation that isn't overheard by the others,
Leif:and Ivy tells her she'll make sure cece reinstates
Leif:her access to the trust.
Steve:Yeah. The girl's like, yeah, fuck you. Fuck you,
Steve:little girl. Everything that happens from here on
Steve:out is on, your head. Although I also think. I
Steve:also think that Carol's snide comment about, like,
Steve:whatever is coming to you is with the assumption
Steve:that Lily and Serena are end up gonna end up being
Steve:shitty to her because they're all shitty to each
Steve:other.
Leif:We shall see. Dan is back at the loft and receives
Leif:a delivery with a copy of Inside now bearing a
Leif:sticker showing his name as the author rather than
Leif:the printed Anonymous. Even though it may wreak
Leif:havoc on his social life, Dan can't help but smile
Leif:in pride at seeing the COVID Yeah, it's funny.
Leif:Like, that would be a huge moment.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah, like, that has to just feel amazing to
Steve:pull that Book out and see your name on it and see
Steve:the COVID that somebody gave it and see the.
Leif:Looks remarkably like the Gossip Girl cover.
Steve:Yes.
Leif:Not exactly, but it's definitely pretty damn
Leif:close.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:We shift to a scene of, Louis and Blair sitting
Leif:knees together on Blair's bed. Louis is actually
Leif:ecstatic at the pregnancy news. It turns out he
Leif:lied in his interview, said the press wouldn't put
Leif:Blair on baby watch. They decided to go out and
Leif:celebrate. And Blair hides the test results in her
Leif:desk as she gets ready.
Steve:That didn't necessarily looked opened. I don't
Steve:know if that was what they were going for. If it
Steve:was that it's Chuck's and she was hiding it, or if
Steve:it was, she never actually looked, which is kind
Steve:of my impression.
Leif:M. I'm gonna say she did actually look. Okay, I'm
Leif:not gonna say who it is, but I will say that she
Leif:could just be hiding it for the fact that the fact
Leif:that taking the test basically proves that she
Leif:cheated is incriminating.
Steve:I had that thought, too. That, like, oh, we're
Steve:having a baby. Wait, why did.
Leif:Why did you get a very dangerous pregnancy
Leif:paternity test in the womb?
Steve:Yeah. Why did you risk the baby's life for
Steve:paternity test if I'm clearly the dad? Yeah, Yeah,
Steve:I did. I did also have that thought that it would
Steve:be good evidence to burn
Leif:right away, but obviously it's going to come back
Leif:up because she just put it in her desk. I mean,
Leif:that's pretty obvious. Yeah, so I don't think
Leif:that's really a spoiler for anyone.
Steve:They wouldn't if they didn't want us. Yeah, they
Steve:showed us that letter again for a reason.
Leif:Chuck is writhing on the bed in apparent agony.
Leif:Finally able to feel something. Monkey hops up on
Leif:the bed and lays his head on Chuck to comfort him.
Leif:And Chuck lets out a single tear and kisses
Leif:Monkey.
Steve:Okay, why does Chuck writhing in ecstasy while
Steve:he's feeling so sad?
Leif:Like, because Ed is not a good actor.
Steve:He is not a good actor. And this was just some of
Steve:the worst. Like, when he first was on there, I was
Steve:like, is he, like, getting Ed? And then I was
Steve:like, what is going on in this? Oh, he feels
Steve:again. Oh, it's sadness that he feels. Okay, all
Steve:right, I'm just gonna accept that.
Leif:And he's not molesting that dog. Yes.
Steve:Yes.
Leif:Serena is helping Ivy unpack her things in the
Leif:bedroom. Formerly known as Serena's. Formerly
Leif:known as Jenny's. Formerly known as Serena's. Ivy
Leif:realizes she has Left her phone at the party.
Steve:Yeah, she forgot her phone at the party. And now
Steve:all the phones are currently in possession of
Steve:someone else.
Leif:Yeah, we see Diana going through the photos
Leif:downloaded from everyone's phones. Nate says he
Leif:has returned all the phones except for the one
Leif:that didn't have a tag. As they are wondering
Leif:about the owner, it receives a text to Ivy from
Leif:Max.
Steve:Nate, do you know how many counts of felony
Steve:privacy laws you committed and broke and theft?
Steve:This newspaper is on the hook for millions in
Steve:damages already. You can't print anything you
Steve:have.
Leif:And I do like that. Once again, the Gossip Girl
Leif:writers show so they know how to use writing tools
Leif:within an episode. This was really well said
Leif:because they show first they show Ivy leaving the
Leif:voicemail for Max, and then they show the phone
Leif:getting untagged and just left at reception. So
Leif:it's setting up this final scene. Yeah, and that
Leif:is the final scene of the episode. And Gossip Girl
Leif:ends this with the true author of a tell all tome
Leif:has been revealed, and the author's name is one
Leif:everyone will recognize. But the question is, will
Leif:anyone want to say it again once the book is out?
Leif:Face your fears and the rewards can be profound.
Leif:You could discover the true depth of a
Leif:relationship or what you're capable of
Leif:withstanding. The problem is, the more you gain,
Leif:the more you have to lose. Get ready to find out
Leif:what you're made of. Because to survive on the
Leif:Upper east side, you better be fearless. Xo Xo
Leif:Gossip Girl. That is our episode. What is coming
Leif:next?
Steve:First of all, things shit's going to blow up for
Steve:this book, right? Like, this book is going to hit
Steve:the shelves. Everyone is going to read it.
Steve:Everyone is going to hate Dan. It's going to be a
Steve:another bad day for Dan episode. We've had a few
Steve:of those. and I think that we're gonna see another
Steve:one of these, like, really bad day for Dan,
Steve:especially with Serena, because I'm sure that she
Steve:is going to be the least happy. We're also going
Steve:to see Blair read about herself in there in a
Steve:positive light at some point. And it's going to
Steve:give insight into
Leif:how, but presumably including a sexy. That may
Leif:probably not have that mayor. Probably not.
Steve:That may or may. Yeah, that probably not have
Steve:happened. But if it did, also further questions
Steve:the paternity of the child, which they haven't
Steve:brought up. So, I mean, Nate. So I hate when
Steve:Gossip Girl goes from scheming, undermining stuff
Steve:to, like, felony theft and breaking laws that
Steve:would actually land people in jail. So however
Steve:this plays out, I'm already annoyed. You know,
Steve:Like, I'm already annoyed with Nate falling for
Steve:all of this. I'm, really confused as to who
Steve:Elizabeth or who Diana is setting this up with,
Steve:because I thought it was Grandfather, but Nate
Steve:turned down grandfather's stuff to go do this. So
Steve:I'm really kind of torn on what. Who's pulling the
Steve:strings here.
Leif:any changes to your Louis timeline? I'm Z. Are
Leif:they just going to get married and he's here to
Leif:stay?
Steve:I don't think he's here to stay. Again, like, I
Steve:think there's going to be a wedding. I do believe
Steve:there's going to be a wedding. More and more, I'm
Steve:starting to think that that's going to be episode
Steve:11. But I do feel like there's going to be a
Steve:wedding and that there's going to be a big reveal
Steve:of sorts at the wedding. Or at least I don't think
Steve:Blair's going through with it. Or one of them is
Steve:going to bail at the altar, is my prediction for
Steve:Louis. We also have more stuff from his sister
Steve:coming, I'm sure. So her and the priest.
Leif:Anything else?
Steve:Lily's out of jail, so she's going to be up to
Steve:some shenanigans. Oh, and also, now that we're in
Steve:predictions, this is what I wanted to play from
Steve:the dungeon crawler Carl. It might have. It is
Steve:relevant to our show and to what we're talking
Steve:about right now in predictions, and kind of goes
Steve:along with some things that I have kind of been
Steve:saying. So this is from chapter 36 of the first
Steve:book.
Leif:no, not gonna work.
Steve:You don't hear it?
Leif:Barely.
Steve:Okay, okay. First she says, it's just like that
Steve:scene in season three of Gossip Girl where Chuck
Steve:and Blair break up over a hotel. And then the
Steve:other person she's talking to says, wait, you
Steve:watch Gossip Girl? And they go back and forth a
Steve:little bit about how this alien has been stuck on
Steve:Earth for several months, and despite people
Steve:having nothing but Earthbound entertainment to
Steve:watch, no one else is watching Gossip Girl, so she
Steve:has no one to talk about it with.
Leif:There's someone always watching Gossip Girl,
Leif:Right.
Steve:Well, to which one of them says, so you watch
Steve:Gossip Girl? And she goes, I could talk about it
Steve:all day. Girl Season 5, the accident. Don't make
Steve:me cry. And that's the end of the conversation.
Leif:Yeah, they're dropping spoilers so well.
Steve:And it's funny because I was like, oh, fuck. When
Steve:they first said season five, I was like, Should I
Steve:stop this right now? Like, I'm not going to not
Steve:read the book. But, yeah. So I do know there's
Steve:going to be an accident that is going to be awful.
Steve:And maybe that could be Lily. That'd be a great
Steve:way out for them, honestly. And then Blair would
Steve:have the baby, who is now the prince.
Leif:Yeah. If you look at episode titles, you might be
Leif:able to figure out what episode it's in.
Steve:I'll wait for it to, come up. There is also the
Steve:one character we'll often name. So there's a trope
Steve:in the book where goblins aren't named because
Steve:they're just NPCs. So she starts naming them and
Steve:names two of them, Lorelei and Rory, and later
Steve:uses, code names of Ivy and Nate for a character.
Leif:Interesting.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, there are many. I do highly recommend
Steve:this book series, and I highly recommend, the
Steve:audiobook, because the guy reading it is doing
Steve:just a phenomenal job with the voice acting. But
Steve:it's got that. It is pop culture mixed with video
Steve:game culture, so it's fun. Anyway, I did want to
Steve:throw that in with the predictions today.
Leif:Alrighty, let's get into segments. Hello there,
Leif:Peabody here.
Steve:And this is the Wayback Machine for traveling
Steve:through time. And this is my boy, Sherman. Speak,
Steve:Sherman. Hello. Good boy.
Leif:This week in Fandom, we jump into the Wayback
Leif:Machine that travels to the Television without
Leif:pity forums from 2011. Their overall impression of
Leif:the episode. Fun episode. It was funny.
Steve:Yeah, it was all right. It was fun.
Leif:A lot of people think Blair is lying about the
Leif:results.
Steve:It's a Blair thing to do.
Leif:Yeah. Multiple.
Steve:Ah.
Leif:People thought Chuck was jacking off with the dog
Leif:at the end.
Steve:Seemed that way. Seemed that way. It was weird. It
Steve:was weird. That dog put the cum in comfort.
Leif:And I said we would eventually see myself in these
Leif:forums. And then I finally saw myself. And as a
Leif:username, I actually forgot I even had Kid Sheena,
Leif:which is, of course, a reference to the O.C.
Steve:yeah.
Leif:Did you get as far as the Atomic county part of
Leif:the show? I did not. At one point, Seth writes a
Leif:comic book called Atomic county, and all the
Leif:characters are in it, and they all have
Leif:superpowers. And Ryan is Kid Cheetah.
Steve:That's funny.
Leif:Also, another Marissa is Cosmo Girl. She gets her
Leif:magic powers from a. Or she gets her powers from a
Leif:magical flask.
Steve:Yeah, but her kryptonite's a bottle of pills.
Steve:Sorry, too soon.
Leif:More like a car.
Steve:Oh, was it a car? I thought she OD'd.
Leif:She did, but.
Steve:Oh. okay.
Leif:But she survived the od. She died from the car.
Steve:Oh, Jesus.
Leif:That girl went through the chicks. back to this
Leif:week in fandom. Dan and Blair remain one of the
Leif:positive storylines.
Steve:Yeah, they were my favorite part of this. Of this
Steve:episode. Dan's down.
Leif:People are commenting on Penn Badgley losing
Leif:weight for the role of Jeff Buckley.
Steve:Oh, did he play Jeff Buckley?
Leif:Yes. In the movie. Greetings from Tim Buckley. Oh,
Leif:the biopic about, a youngish right before he kind
Leif:of hits it big. Jeff Buckley kind of overcoming
Leif:his issues with his own father, basically
Leif:abandoning him because he was also a somewhat
Leif:famous musician. But, yeah. yeah, they were
Leif:commenting on. He definitely looks skinnier this
Leif:season.
Steve:It is. Yeah, I can see that.
Leif:And there was a lot of praise for the Chuck and
Leif:Blair scene.
Steve:Yeah. And also, it's the first time that we have
Steve:Blair back in the loft since,
Leif:The Empire.
Steve:Yeah. Or the Empire. Yeah, since the, you know,
Steve:Chuck assaulting her. Yeah. And so she went in
Steve:there with her own power and left on a high note,
Steve:I felt. So I thought that was good for her, too.
Leif:Moving into episode grays, what do you got this
Leif:week?
Steve:I thought it was fun. I didn't think it was
Steve:groundbreaking by any means, and I didn't think it
Steve:was great. I'm gonna go B minus.
Leif:I actually really like this episode. I laughed out
Leif:loud several times. I thought there's a lot of
Leif:good dialogue. The Diana Nate storyline is kind of
Leif:stupid, but at least they're giving him something
Leif:of substance. Like, yes, he is an older woman
Leif:again, but he's also involved in crime. I think
Leif:it's gonna blow up in his face, but it's at least
Leif:interesting. And also now he's being tied into the
Leif:Charlie story Ivy storyline, which obviously the
Leif:writers think is important because it is pretty
Leif:much forefront so far this season. Like that. That
Leif:and Dan's book are kind of the big stories, and
Leif:they're the wedding, obviously, the royal stuff.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:So, yeah, I gave this an A minus.
Steve:Oh, okay.
Leif:Stock watch. Who you got going up?
Steve:Rufus. I wanted to send Rufus up for sure because
Steve:he really came through for his wife. Dan is
Steve:published, so I'm gonna send Dan up. Ah. He really
Steve:got stuff going for him. I'm gonna give Louie the
Steve:up for finding out he's gonna be a dad and being
Steve:really excited about that. And I'm gonna give
Steve:Charlie the up for Ivy the up for landing on her
Steve:feet and holding the upper hand. For now, I'm
Steve:gonna give Serena and up for just being a good
Steve:cousin in general and really being there to help
Steve:Ivy along. I feel like Blair is neutral. You know
Steve:what? I'm gonna give it to Lily for getting out
Steve:too. So you're a free woman, Lily. Oh, and you
Steve:know what? He was mentioned and I love him. So I'm
Steve:gonna give Eric an up.
Leif:Do a counter Vanessa off at Sarah Lawrence for me.
Leif:Going up. I had Dan because he was just a great
Leif:friend this episode. I had Rufus going up because
Leif:he's just being non offensive and having a job and
Leif:being useful. Yeah, I had Nate going up because
Leif:he's getting laid and he's apparently really good
Leif:at it because she's willing to fire an entire
Leif:staff of people just
Steve:to fuck him, just to lay some pipe like Jesus
Steve:Christ.
Leif:And she's also, you know, at least pretending to
Leif:take him seriously.
Steve:Sure.
Leif:I had to rota going up because she was just a boss
Leif:ass bitch, as usual.
Steve:Oh, I forgot to send Dorota up. I wanted to do
Steve:that too, because, okay, she was on top of things.
Leif:I'd be going up because she is continuing to walk
Leif:that line. It continues to be very, precarious,
Leif:but she's doing it. I had Serena going up for the
Leif:same reason as you. She was a supportive cousin. I
Leif:had, Noah Shapiro going up because he actually
Leif:fulfilled his role.
Steve:Yeah, let me. Let me give Noah Shapiro an up.
Steve:Alessandra, for that matter, for playing her part.
Leif:Okay. I will not give her up because she was just
Leif:kind of there, so I'm leaving her neutral. But my
Leif:final up goes to Monkey for just being a good boy.
Leif:He's such a good boy. Who do you have going down?
Steve:actually, did I have Diana going up? No, put Diana
Steve:up, too, for playing the shit out of Nate. I'm
Steve:sending Nate down. Yeah, I know you had him going
Steve:up, but I'm sending Nate down for getting played
Steve:so fucking hard and committing a felony for this
Steve:fake newspaper job and making an ass of yourself
Steve:in front of that person who thought you were the
Steve:good one in your family.
Leif:I mean, he was just a congressman that cheats on
Leif:his wife, so, fuck him.
Steve:Yeah, I mean, fuck him, but also Nate, like,
Steve:you're an idiot.
Leif:So you have Nate going down. You have Carol going
Leif:down.
Steve:I'm sending Carol going down because she's getting
Steve:played. I am going to have the assistant going
Steve:down that fucked up Charlie's phone. I, had
Steve:someone else that I was sending down.
Leif:Chuck.
Steve:Oh, Chuck. Yeah, and I have Chuck going down
Steve:because, man, if you feel again. Maybe you should
Steve:stop feeling, because you're gonna. You're gonna
Steve:get a felony assault charge if you feel in public,
Steve:an indecent exposure.
Leif:Yeah, Chuck's definitely going down for me. I see.
Leif:We were completely opposite this. I had Diana
Leif:going down because she's just a horrible
Leif:character.
Steve:She is a horrible character. Don't get me wrong. I
Steve:just feel like she's winning her thing, but I get
Steve:your point. Do that. She sucks. And the sooner
Steve:we're done with this, the better.
Leif:And I have Carol going down as well, and also the
Leif:assistant going down. Pretty much the same there,
Leif:except for we have Nate and Diana flipped.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah. But here's the best outfits from the
Steve:last episode we've seen.
Leif:Best outfit. Who do you got?
Steve:I don't remember if she had it on at, the party of
Steve:the week, but when Blair showed up to Chuck's in
Steve:that blue dress.
Leif:Uh-huh.
Steve:I just. I thought that that one really captured
Steve:her really well. So I really liked that dress at
Steve:the end.
Leif:Yeah, I like that dress. I'm going to actually
Leif:give it to her. The lavender sequin dress she was
Leif:wearing in the show. But also, it could easily go
Leif:on to Ivy's dress. That was amazing as well.
Steve:Yeah, I thought Ivy's was okay, but also I was
Steve:influenced by Robin, who didn't think it was. Who
Steve:didn't really like that one. Robin said, no, no,
Steve:no, it's pretty, but it's not bag drop pretty.
Steve:It's the Precious. Yeah, it's no Season 4 Oscar de
Steve:la Renta train station dress. So now that that bar
Steve:has been
Leif:set, that is it for segments. Do you have anything
Leif:you would like to plug?
Steve:I'm, pretty sure that this is going to be out
Steve:after the Morgantown Cana Fest is over, but I am
Steve:definitively playing the Morgantown Cana Fest on
Steve:March 21st, 22nd, 20th. 21st and 22nd. and I'll be
Steve:on and off throughout the day, and I'm all. And
Steve:other than that, I actually should be this
Steve:weekend. Oh, okay. So. Okay, awesome. So, yeah,
Steve:come on out to Morgantown and you can catch me
Steve:playing some songs at the Morgantown Canafest. And
Steve:I would, also like to plug my Instagram and
Steve:TikTok. Steve Marshon M A R C H ah I O N so go
Steve:ahead and give me a follow there, see what I'm up
Steve:to, catch some of my music, and that kind of fun
Steve:stuff for me.
Leif:I'm going to recommend, the season 37 episode of
Leif:the Simpsons, where they go to Philadelphia. The
Leif:episode is called Irrational Treasure.
Steve:It's just like we haven't watched it yet.
Leif:Shock full of Philadelphia. It's like non stop
Leif:Philadelphia references.
Steve:Yeah, I'm dying to watch it. Robin and I just
Steve:haven't had a time that we've been synced up to
Steve:watch something together, so.
Leif:But if you want to follow me on social media, you
Leif:can find me on Instagram and bluesky hotcapicola.

Leif:5 Episode 4 Memoirs of the Invisible Dan. The
Leif:episode description reads, after much
Leif:deliberation, Dan decides to gather Serena, Blair,
Leif:Nate, Chuck, Rufus and Lily to reveal the truth
Leif:about his book. And I hope that they will support
Leif:him at his book party. Meanwhile, Blair and Louis
Leif:hit a crisis point. After Lily reads Dad's book,
Leif:Diana learns incriminating information about one
Leif:of Nate's friends and uses it to her advantage.
Steve:Oh, Jesus Christ. Bum bum bum.
Leif:Until next time. You know you love us.
