the first overhead shot, our eagle eyed viewers,

as well as Quentin Tarantino may have noticed one

of the extras had a missing shoe. She was standing

there in one heel.

I didn't notice it. I was looking for it, but I

didn't notice it. And then you showed me the

picture and that is pretty funny.

Hey, appery ciders and all you scandal loving

listeners out there, you've just tuned into the

non judging breakfast pod where the coffee is

strong, the waffles are fresh, and the gossip is

hotter than ever. My name is Leif and I'm your

seasoned Gossip Girl veteran.

And I'm Steve. The newbie, the rookie, the

greenhorn, the I don't know, leaf. What are we

saying now that we are in season four? Five?

I'm not sure, but how relieved were you when you

found out you weren't carrying my offspring? That

certainly would have derailed your fairy tale. Not

to mention biology I can feel again. Well, we'll

find you an eligible Whitney or a Rockefeller. I'm

fine with the model. Or witty gay.

So here's the deal, folks. Leap has been watching

Gossip Girl since it first aired, and I'm diving

in for the first time. And together, we are your

dynamic duo, bringing you all the drama, romance,

and sometimes questionable fashion choices of this

iconic 2007 series.

Bring your magnifying glasses, because each week

we're dissecting every juicy detail of the show

one episode at a time. We'll connect the dots,

uncover, those sneaky little Easter eggs, and of

course, serve up some piping hot behind the scenes

tea, and expect some iconic fandom moments too,

because what's a deep dive without a little drama?

Sorry, Alif, I did not see the script beforehand

today. I always look in the one time

I didn't this week. We're here to talk about

season five, episode three. the Jewel of Denial.

Original air date was of course October 10, 2011

and based on the movie the Jewel of the Nile.

Yes. Which was the sequel to Romancing the Stone.

Or. It was the Or. Those two movies went together.

Michael Douglas, I think. Right.

Michael Douglas. And Kathy Turner.

And Kathleen Turner.

And Danny Devito. Fairly, yes.

And I feel like I may have seen clips of those,

but I know my dad watched them. I don't know if I

ever actually saw the whole movie.

I have not seen any of it. Came, out in 1985,

directed by Louis Teague. And the description

reads, when Joan Wilder is up abducted while on a

trip along the Nile, her boyfriend Jack Colton and

pal Ralph rush to rescue her and retrieve a fabled

jewel. not sure what the connection is, but made a

good pun at least.

Yeah, that's what I think the connection was.

This episode was written by Amanda Lasher. Been

around since season two. Did Predator J. Gone with

the Will Sat or anything. And then season three,

did the Freshman. They shoot Humphreys, don't

they? The Lady Vanished. It's a dad, dad, dad

World. And then season four, she did the

Undergraduates, the Townie, and Pretty in Pink. So

a lot of funny episodes. And this was a funny

episode too, as I thought.

Yeah, yeah.

She does good comedy stuff.

Yeah. The light hearted. It seems to be a lot of

light hearted and often sort of filler plot

episodes like Big Things Happen, but then also

it's sort of, expositional, I guess you could say.

You, had the satyr anything. So that was like the

big, you know, farcical satyr episode.

Yeah.

And then you get the fresh bit, and that's where

Dan and takes Blair to the party, Georgina's

party, and then ends up hooking up with Georgina.

and all that hijinks, no headbands in college.

Yeah.

And of course, the tatty is the road trip with Dan

and Blair. And then the pretty, of pink is when

she schemes to have them kissing at the party. And

everyone sees it on Gossip Girl because of

Charlie.

Yeah, yeah.

This episode was directed by Larry Shaw. This is

his one and only episode of Gossip Girl. But

career, mostly, TV from 1987 to 2021 was his most

recent credit. which is he has, 62 directing

credits, including stuff like 21, Jump Street, X

Files, oddly, Lizzie McGuire in there. He worked

on the Flash Castle. but his most prolific effort

was 50 episodes of desperate House Alive.

Oh, all right.

So I'm sure he's getting paid for that.

Yeah, yeah.

Probably got a nice heated pool off of the

residuals from that show. Yeah, I believe it made

to 100 episodes.

Yeah. Oh, I'm pretty sure it did. I think. Pretty

sure it reached syndication.

As far as guest stars, today, we have three

returns. We got Sheila Kelly coming back as Carol

Rhodes, David Patrick Kelly as Noah Shapiro and

Jonathan Karp as himself. And, we also have

newcomer Marina Squirciati. Squirciati. She's

introduced as Alessandra Steele.

Mm. Mm.

Why don't you go ahead and read that vulture

recap?

many women may indulge in princess fantasies, but

for the ladies of Gossip Girl, they sometimes turn

real. In last night's episode, Lily was liberated

from the house arrest spell by Prince Rufus, who

magically whisked off her ankle bracelet in time

for her to go to the big ball. As for her niece,

fake Charlie Rhodes, AKA Ivy, Lily is really about

one thing. The girl has some serious mental

issues. It's like every time she sees a sequined

dress or a pair of Louboutins, she goes into some

kind fugue state. And when she snaps back to

reality, she finds she's dug herself deeper into a

situation that will get her arrested if not

institutionalized. Everything is all sparkly here.

She explains helplessly to the woman she is

blackmailing in order to assume a false identity.

Don't go into the sparkles, Ivy. Ah. too late. In

the meantime, Blair pursues her Grace Kelly

fantasy at all costs by telling Louis the baby she

carrying is his. Although the final scene suggests

she's going to have some explaining to do when the

kid pops out wearing an ascot and drinking its own

celebratory scotch. Ah.

yes. Do you think the baby is Chuck's?

I. I don't think she knows. First of all, I don't

know if she even opened that letter was kind of

the impression I got at the end. But, yeah, if

anything, it seemed like it's Chucks. Like, it

totally seemed like it, but yeah.

Well, act one begins with a montage of. We see

Blair's paternity results are put into an

envelope. Ivy and Serena arrive back in the Upper

east side. Nate is putting on a tie, and Gossip

Girl has this to say. They say the only way to

conquer your fear is to face what you fear the

most. You must walk into the belly of the beast

and risk the possibility of failure. But try to

hide from the fear, and you risk it swallowing you

whole.

Yep.

So we see Blair is reading a biography on Grace

Kelly, and Dorota knocks at our door because the

doctor's office called to tell her the results are

ready to be picked up. But right away, we see

Blair doing her classic head in the sand routine.

And a worried and desperate Dorota calls Dan for

help and getting Blair to face the truth. He says

he will be there after he runs an errand.

So, to get this DNA test, isn't she going to need

DNA from both of them? Or are we just assuming

that she had Chuck's DNA lying around somewhere in

her, you know.

Well, she'd only necessarily need one.

Yeah, I guess.

And that is pretty easy to get something like

Louis hair or something.

Yeah, yeah.

Gross.

Yeah. Yeah.

But it is dangerous to do it while she's still

pregnant. From what I understand, it's only really

done in emergencies. Incestual rape or something

like that.

Because they also need the DNA from the baby,

which means you have to.

That's what I'm saying. It's dangerous.

Exactly.

They typically only do that in emergencies.

Yeah.

Or.

On the Upper east side,

Serena and Ivy get off the elevator in the Waldorf

apartment. Dorota enthusiastically welcomes Serena

home, while, Ivy hangs back and ignores a call

from Carol. She then deletes her phone book. For

some reason, when Serena sees the worried look on

Ivy's face, she promises Carol won't find her,

thanks to Cece's help.

Good job, Cece. Who's clearly never seen a picture

of her own granddaughter. Like, damn, that's.

That's a strange.

Well, this family apparently just randomly ignores

each other's calls.

Yeah, that's true, too. Yeah.

Yeah, I was ignoring Cece's calls. Yeah. I don't

know why.

Oh, that's why she was calling.

And of course, Cece was ignoring Carol's calls.

Yeah.

At the Empire, Dan has apparently gifted Chuck a

puppy in an effort to get him to feel something.

Chuck is reluctant, but Dan doesn't have time to

take the dog back because he has to persuade Noah

Shapiro to help him kill his book. Chuck

generously offers to lend him some protective

sports gear and help his efforts. Nate is

surprised to see Dan and the dog at the suite.

Chuck lies to him about the dog, and Dan lies

about why he's there before leaving.

Although, you know, it would be something Dan

would do to go wish Nate a, good first day. Like,

their bromance does. Like, Robin was like, that's

a weird thing to say. And I'm like, is it, though?

Like, that is just such a Dan and Nate thing to

do.

But, yeah, Chuck's comment about the, knee pads.

This is. Yeah.

Nate tells Chuck he should consider keeping the

dog because he won't be around to keep Chuck

company as much with a job and school. Chuck

explains that Diana hired Nate for his skills in

the bedroom, not the boardroom.

Yes, Nate, sweetie, I was going to get to this

later. But you're a prostitute. It's kind of what

you have been doing since season two.

Yeah. Yeah, but I want to take that. So I want to

figure out when they officially stop mentioning

school because. So this is 503. And he mentions

that Nate is still going to school apparently.

Is it? But.

I don't think we actually see them on campus at

all this season.

Yeah, we. Yeah, because we have. We know that

Serena is not going back to school because she's

working, but I feel like she's the only one that's

addressed it at all.

But Nate. But Nate says in the scene that he is.

He's working and going to school, so.

Right. Yeah. I'm saying other than this, I don't

think we've addressed it from any. From Blair or

Dan even. Has Dan mentioned NYU at all?

I don't think so.

Yeah, I don't think so.

Blair welcomes Serena home and after getting over

the surprise of Charlie, allows Charlie to stay in

the guest room. The three sit down to breakfast

with Dorota hovering. Serena excitedly mentions

that she and Blair finally get to model together

at the Jenny Packham show tonight. Blair says she

unfortunately won't be able to attend. As she

walks away, Dorota implies that now she can go

pick up the results, but Blaire says she is going

shopping instead. After Blair and Dorota leave the

room, Serena and Charlie make plans to go talk to

Lily.

Dorota just being cold blooded when she comes out

and she's like, oh, the best part about being

pregnant. Knowing who the dad is. Burn. Just

burned. It's so brutal.

Dan meets with his former mentor, Noah Shapiro,

who is just as much of a cliched dickhead as ever.

Shapiro's advice is to let the book come out and

disappear. No one is going to care about it.

Shapiro's agent, Alessandra Steel, walks in and

gets introduced to Dan. Dan agrees to the plan,

but asks that Shapiro not tell anyone and leaves.

Shapiro asks Alessandro to wait while he makes a

call to Jonathan Karp.

Not much to say at this point other than I love

that he's immediately calling Dan a coward for not

wanting to release this.

What was your initial thought here? Do you think

he was going to try to steal the book for real?

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. When he first called, I was

like, oh, he's going to totally steal that book.

which is what I thought he was doing all along.

Like I. Yeah, I didn't think it was a setup. I

thought he was like, I thought he Saw money signs

and was going for it. They had me on this whole

storyline.

What do you think of Alessandra?

Well, I also. The instant that they were

introduced, the second she was given a name, I'm

like, oh, this is Dan's new love interest. Oh,

they're gonna hook up. Okay.

I will confirm that she is going to be a recurring

character for basically this whole book storyline.

Yeah, it really felt like she was going to. Well,

and the way that he introduced everyone at the

table, that it was like, this is your publishing

team, you know, and she was there. So I just kind

of.

I think everyone else was actually real people.

Jonathan Carpenter.

Many of them.

Jonathan Carpenter, once again being horrible at

acting.

Yes. Yes.

Just not knowing at all what to do in the scene.

He just looks so uncomfortable.

Waiting for him to put his hands in front of his

face. But I did think that there was instant.

They're trying to show us chemistry with

Alessandra and Dan immediately. I also thought.

And I think I thought this may be more toward the

end, but the switch out again of Noah for the

other guy is an actual writer, right?

Yeah.

The guy that we saw last night,

Jeremiah Harris, it was actually Jay McElriney

here. McElroney.

Yeah. So I think I also got the impression of,

like, okay, we need to get the actor back in

because this is going to be a longer storyline

that we don't want to necessarily push this non

actor through that. We want to. We want to get

someone with some chops to finish this storyline

out.

Rufus is at the penthouse cleaning up breakfast

for two and tells Lily he's late. Is meeting with

panic. Lily is already lonely after one week of

Eric being gone to college, but is cheered when

reminded that her house arrest ends in one month.

And Serena gets home today.

Yeah, good for her.

Good for Rufus. Still working. I would be a

working man again.

Yeah, yeah. And being out there with panic and

doing all this stuff. yeah. When. Yeah, the

breadwinner.

Now, let's not get carried away, right?

She says as she pats him on the head. Who's the

big breadwinner now?

Pays the electric bill with his whole salary,

yet my bank account is still full.

After Rufus leaves, Lily, gets a call from Carol,

who asks if Lily has heard from Charlie. Carol

thinks Charlie might be on the west coast, but

Cece won't return her calls. Lily says she will

ask Serena, who just got back from la. Carol is

intrigued that Serena is also in California. And

we see Carol holding a photocopy of the check Ivy

wrote For the apartment she and Serena were going

to share. Carol says she is going to come visit.

Yeah. Okay. Carol, the whole time I was thinking,

what are you going to do? You're going to show up

and tell your family that he defrauded them? Like,

you're. You're Carol?

Well, I mean, presumably, she just assumed that,

using her rose charisma, she was going to

manipulate Ivy into just backing down, which she

probably would have if she didn't get that booster

from Blair.

Yeah, you're. Yeah, you're right. But it's also

like, you're the one that started this whole con,

in the first place.

Yeah. If you at her, then you're going down, too.

Yeah, but she's an older, and she's more

experienced, and she. Like I said, if Flair didn't

have that conversation, she likely would have been

a manipulator out to leave.

Yeah. Yeah, I totally agree.

Dan calls Blair and asks if she has picked up the

test results. Blair says she's walking into the

doctor's office now and has to go. Blair goes to

enter a store, but it is revealed Dan was

following her and steps in front of the door. Dan

ushers it off, presumably in the direction of the

doctor's office. Dan sees a Gossip Girl blast and

looks perturbed.

I like what comes after this more.

but I like how he tracked her dad and.

But. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

I just kind of, like, grabs her and it starts.

This is what I was thinking of. The phone call.

Right, Right. No, I love that when. This is the

part that I was thinking of that he calls her on

the phone, and she's like.

Catches her in the light.

He's walking in right now, and he just steps right

in front of her

before she walks in the door, pulls her away.

She's like, oh, yeah. What?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. As he leads her away, you know,

like. But. And. And also, I just thought it was

very classic, the two of them. Right.

Yeah.

And it also is so classic, Dan, and also so

classic, like Joe Goldberg of him, that he does

kind of stalk the people he loves. Like, he would

always be able to know where Serena was, and he

always seems to know where Blair is.

Fair. Everyone's on the spotted map in this

universe, so everyone knows where everyone is.

True. Yeah.

And this is the gospel girl blast that has Dan,

all worried as we go to the first break. Turns out

that the rumored UES novel is fact, not fiction.

And I have the inside scoop on who the author is.

Patience, pets. Your answer is coming we move into

Act 2 at the Spectator. Diana explains her plans

to rebrand the newspaper, starting with sponsoring

the Jenny Packham show tonight. Nate is ready to

work, but as Chuck said, Diana has a different

kind of work in mind. When Nate has a bit of

performance anxiety, Diana promptly fires and

dismisses the entire staff.

Hey, I'm gonna run this archaic business and have

absolutely no one involved who knows what they're

doing,

try to get this business off the ground. But I now

have to hire an entire staff.

Yeah, but now I have to hire an entirely new staff

so I can bang this dude here in the office right

now.

This 20 year old.

She's not a good business person. No, I'm gonna

say she's bad at business.

Dan and Blair exit the clinic, envelope in hand,

but she is still hesitant to open it because of

the obvious implications. You get it?

The implication.

She promises to open it as soon as she finishes

her interview with Halloween magazine this

afternoon. Dan says he has an errand of his own,

but will meet her back at her apartment later to

be there when she opens the results.

Yeah, again, she's procrastinating it and going

off on it.

But Dan being there, being a supportive friend.

Yep. Dan always being who she needs. Good job,

Dan.

We shift to the penthouse just as Serena finishes

telling Lily all about her summer. After the

story, Lily asks if Serena has heard from Charlie.

As Carol is worried, Serena is surprised. Lily

hasn't talked to Cece yet, but we learn she was

ignoring her calls. Serena says that Carol is

trying to cut Charlie off, and Charlie is in fact,

19 and can leave home if she wants. Just then, Ivy

gets off the elevator and begins eavesdropping on

the conversation. Lily brings up the mental health

issues and that she isn't going to participate in

deceiving Carol. Ivy turns around and gets back on

the elevator.

Yeah, I mean, I. Your instincts are good. Go to

Oregon. Go find Sweetie Max out in Portland and

take this cash out the trust fund. Just cash.

Every last dime of it. Dip and be gone. Yep,

disappear.

Also, since when is Lily not going to want to

deceive Carol? That seems out of character.

Yeah, when it's convenient to the plot.

Fair enough. Blair is being interviewed, and when

the conversation turns to family, Blair learns

that Louis answers indicated he wasn't ready for

fatherhood, which puts more doubt in Blair's mind

as the interview wraps up.

Yeah, the whole, like, oh, well, when are you

going to have kids, since you're not even married

yet, but I'm just going to throw out the kid

question. And don't worry, I'm gonna answer for

you. I'm gonna. Since someone else answered for

you, I'll go ahead and read you that.

I mean, that's absolutely a question hello.

Magazine would ask. Yeah, I mean, it's an

interview about her getting married.

Yeah.

It's, pretty natural question to ask.

Yeah, but it is personal.

but they're celebrities.

Yeah, I know. I know.

Dan goes back to Shapiro's office, only to find

Alessandra. Instead, she tells Dan about Shapiro's

new book and shows him a few pages on a tablet.

And Dan quickly realizes Shapiro is taking credit

for his book.

I read the screenshot of the one page that we get

to see of, inside.

Dan describes Claire Carlisle as small yet giant,

young yet adult. Girlish, yet macho.

Yeah. and this is blowing up the upper. Is blowing

up the publishing industry right now.

Yeah. Should have got someone other than intern to

write this.

Yeah. Or at least copy and paste. Copy and paste

HP Lovecraft, like you did for Blair's writing

sample. So that. So that we know that you're not

trying. Yeah, Just the suspension of disbelief

would be a little bit better.

They also give you the first hit in this scene

that it's a setup because Alessandra lets Dan

overhear about the party and where it's going to

be.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Honestly, I chalked that up for

a bad assistant, because tell me, if that wasn't

just an assistant, I don't know why instead of

agent, I put her at, ah, intern in my head. Let's

just also say that if she was an assistant of some

sort,

there is an assistant screwing up in this episode.

We're going to get to it.

Yeah, yeah, but I'm just saying that that's what

this was to me.

This is what Gossip Girl had to say about it. Poor

lonely boy. You just learned the true meaning of

publish or perish. We go into Act 3 on the street.

Ivy is leaving a voicemail from Max saying she

made a mistake and she's catching a bus to

Portland. She quickly ends the call when Sarina

walks up. Ivy tells Serena that she's leaving

because of what Lily said. Serena hugs who she

thinks is her cousin, but asks her to return their

tickets to the show since they won't be attending.

It's almost a shame she's not her cousin, because,

like, if she was her cousin, Serena's a little

manipulative, as Serena always is, but she does

want nothing else but just to shower her with love

and Kindness.

This is probably the best female relationship

Serena's had in the show.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's the most positive. She

wants to be me. Oh, yeah, I get it.

Diana comes back to the office and tells Nate she

was able to avoid the show, being canceled for

confidential confidentiality reasons by offering

to confiscate all the cell phones at the door. She

wants to celebrate with another fuck session, but

Nate wants to be taken seriously. He says he can

probably still get that internship from his mom

and is about to quit when Diana sits him down and

assures him he can work and play here. And she

gives him his first assignment.

Oh, poor, dumb Nate.

It was such, like, sitting him down like a child.

That he is.

M. Yeah, yeah.

Oh, it's okay. You'll be fine.

An older woman sitting him down and talking to him

like he's a child is Nate's kink so little

sweetie.

Blair is back in her room, staring at the unopened

envelope. She opens Gossip Girl to distract

herself, but is even more confused when she sees a

blast about Chuck turning a dog over to the pound.

She slams the laptop closed and gets a text from

Dan. It says he is running late, but urges her to

open the envelope. She instead sees the party

invites and calls Dorota to get her dress ready.

Dorota is confused why Blair is blowing off a date

with Louis later and also Dan, who is coming over

to help open the results. When Dorota walks out of

the room, Blair tears the envelope into multiple

pieces and tosses it in the bin.

I'm just bored with this because it's just so

much. I've just seen this so many times, you know,

it just didn't feel sincere. It was like, oh,

someone's gonna find the letter. Tape it back

together. Yeah. Make her open it.

Did you catch, the caption under the Chuck blast

about the dog that

it said, we always know he knew he was a sick

puppy.

Yeah.

Was the only thing that I saw

spotted Chuck Bass sending his sweet guy off to

the pound. We always do. Bass was one sick puppy.

Yeah. Yeah. Now, in the books, he had a pet

monkey, right?

Yes.

Okay, interesting.

And I. I'm blanking on the name, but it was, like,

something, like, completely normal. It was like,

just a normal person name. Ivy arrives at the pre

show to return the tickets, but finds out Serena

set her up to be a model in the show. She's

hesitant at first, but when she sees the dress she

gets to wear, she lets herself get sucked further

into the.

Yeah. Because everything Sparkles.

Here I thought she was going to turn into Gal in

there.

She grabs it and runs into a cave. Yes.

Rufus arrives home at the penthouse and surprises

Lily with dues that he was able to get her early

release from her house arrest and can go to the

show this very night.

This, to me, was the writers are bored with this

storyline and they want Lily out and about again.

Wow.

Nine months.

That was going to take her all the way into, what,

mid season? She won't be available for the

wedding. Oh, man, we better. We better, We better

get her out of jail.

But I got to ask, what was Rufus doing in multiple

Dan goes back to the Empire to get advice from

Chuck now that he thinks Shapiro is stealing

credit for his book. Chuck calmly lays out Dan's

two options. And Dan gets a text from Doroda

letting him know Blair didn't open the letter and

went to the fashion show instead.

Yeah, good advice, Chuck. Chuck's just like, look,

you're either gonna fade into oblivion or you're

gonna go burn it all down. But, like, fucking make

a decision.

Yeah. And, ah, this is what Gossip Girl has to

say. Careful, Dan. He who runs from fear falls

into the pit. Looks like you're about to take a

tumble. We move into Act 4. Blair checks her phone

at the front door and intercepts the assistant

from earlier and demands to be taken into

wardrobe. In the confusion, the assistant fails to

check in Ivy's phone and just leaves it on the

desk. Yep, another bad assistant.

Fucking assistant.

Nate and Diana arrive at the party, and Nate

points out the targets of his assignment. A

congressman and his wife.

Yeah, why don't you go interview them, Nate? I'm

sure it's all in your best interest. Right now.

Blair is backstage with the assistant, who is

explaining a deconstructed fashion show when Blair

once again spots and is confused by the presence

of Charlie. She sees the assistant leave and Blair

has a conversation with Charlie about her mother

forcing her out of New York. However, Blair's

words of encouragement give Ivy the confidence

that she can fight back against Carol.

I love this scene in general, I love Blair coming

to terms with her shit while also laying out for

Ivy that like, yeah, your mom may have stuff on

you, but don't you have shit on your mom? Like,

girl, if you're gonna live in this world.

Mutual assured destruction.

Yeah, yeah, you. Yeah, exactly. But. And if you

want to play in this Upper east side world, girl,

you have got to fucking learn how to play the

game.

You gotta, be willing to make that nuclear option.

Yes.

Nate is interviewing the congressman and his

socialite wife. However, when he asks about the

trip Diana told him about, it, turns out the

congressman was with another woman. When the

couple starts arguing, Nate sees that Diana still

has her phone and is recording the fight. Even

Nate M. Is smart enough to realize he was played.

Yeah. Yes, you were, Nate. Oh, sweetie, sweetie,

go. Go work for the senator. You have options. And

this is not a good one. What's your salary here?

What's your salary?

He's an intern.

Yeah, exactly. Like he's probably. But he know

that he's getting paid in sex. He's. He's a

prostitute.

Which is better than we would have gotten at the

mayor's office, which would be nothing.

Of course, last time you went to intern at the

mayor's office, she tried to hit on him or never.

So I think that's just going to be his fate. No

matter where he goes. Unless he goes to work like

Rufus and Lily arrive and check their phones. As

they walk away, we see Lily miss a call from

Serena. Once they enter the party proper, Lily

feels everyone is watching and whispering about

her. However, Rufus is quickly there to reassure

her.

Yeah, good job, Rufus. Like Rufus. Despite my

feelings towards the writer's motives for all

this, Rufus came through on this episode, Rufus

came through for his wife.

Yeah, he's doing good. The show begins, and the

models walk from the stage out into the party to

show off their gowns. Ivy and her dress appear to

be a hit, but Charlie is surprised to turn around

and find Lily at the show. Ivy begs Lily not to

tell Carol, but as Lily points out, Carol is

already here. She sees Ivy and silently signals

her over for a private chat.

Yeah, I like how Lily reacted to seeing Charlie,

how she was excited to see her, you know? and,

yeah, but now we go on to the next part of this.

It's Blair's turn, but as soon as she leaves the

stage, Dan steps in to replace her escort. He

brought the envelope somehow glued back together

by Dorota. The two fight over the envelope, and

during the scuffle, Blair pushes Dan into a

waiter, causing a scene.

This is what their second physical altercation

that caused a scene at a big event, at least.

Yeah, because there's the one at the W event that

they were wrestling over the. Something.

Yes. And of course, in, this scene, there's like

several overhead shots. And during the first

overhead shot, our eagle eyed viewers, as well as

Quentin Tarantino may have noticed one of the

extras had a missing shoe. She was standing there

in one heel.

I didn't notice it. I was looking for it, but I

didn't notice it. And then you showed me the

picture, and that is pretty funny.

Quentin Tarantino didn't miss it. Say there. You

know the Leo meme.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. The AI in the Dungeon Crawler

Carl series also would not miss that. And for

anyone reading that, you understand the the AI Has

a foot fetish.

I don't know if that makes me more interested or

less interest to read that.

At the end of the show, I actually want to play a

clip from the book, because I'm listening to the

audiobook and it is relevant to the show.

Okay, this is what Gossip Girl says as we go to

the break. OB Your refusal to find out who the

father has made you to cause one mother of a

scene. We move into Act 5. Diana explains to Nate

that she is going to try and replace Gossip Girl,

but Nate points out that everyone will know it's

her if they release the footage of the

congressman. Nate then accidentally gives her the

idea to go through everyone's confiscated phones

to find their secrets. I guess passwords still

aren't a thing in this universe. Diana bullies

Nate into going along with the plan. However, when

Diana isn't looking, Nate sets Blair and Dan's

phones aside. Such a good friend.

Yeah, Nate, first of all, okay, like, he makes a

flippant comment about why don't you just take

their phones? But then her reaction of like, yes,

that's the play. Oh, man, I'm gonna make. This is

such a good way to do journalism, is steal all of

these people's phones, who certainly won't notice

that we've taken all of the phones.

Well, she's not trying to do journalism. She's

trying to replace Gossip Girl as a scandal rag.

Right. And also, you're trying to replace Gossip

Girl, but you're going after senators or whatever

like Gossip Girl does. Fucking kids.

Yeah, expand that marketing. Yeah, expand that

market, baby.

Yeah. But also just her enthusiasm, Nate, being

like, oh, man. Well, I guess I'm just going to

steal these phones now. And just like, what the

fuck is wrong with you, Nate?

You're going along with just a poorly written

character played by a not great actor.

Yeah, yeah. I mean, she. If I remember correctly,

she's a model turned actor. That. She was a model

that basically got the gig in Austin Powers.

She had been in a couple things before that, but,

yeah, she was mainly a model.

But now she has just a very weird relationship

with her son.

He was like, her personal photographer for

got into film himself and directed his first

feature film, which contains a sex scene with his

mom.

backstage, Carol tells Ivy to the show is over and

But Ivy has other plans and turns the blackmail

back around on Carol. Ivy says she likes the

sparkle of this world and a family that actually

cares about her.

The sparkle. It's the goddamn sparkle. She is

right that she has a family that, like, really

does care about her.

Yeah.

Which is funny because of, how dysfunctional of a

family the Vanders, Vander, Woodson, Rhodes, Klaus

Humphrey, Basses are. They do show up for each

other usually. And they do love each other. So.

Yeah, I think it's actually. I think it's nice for

Ivy. It's, like, good. I'm kind of on Team Ivy of,

like, I hope this lasts as long as she can make it

last because, like, like, these people deserve to

have their money stolen from them by some, like,

nobody who found their way in. And also, it just

seems like it's good for everybody.

It almost seems like Ivy could, I mean, she likes

the money, but I think she likes the family just

as much.

Yeah, no, that's that. Exactly that. She. That

she. She never gets greedy with the money. She

hasn't asked for anything. She hasn't tried to

spend anything.

She said she's going to get Carol back into the

trust, so, she's, Yeah, walking that line.

Yeah, I wouldn't let Carol back into the trust.

you do with Carol.

Outside, Dan chases down Blair and apologizes to

her for being pushy about the results. He admits

he was using her problems to avoid his own.

However, Blair admits she turned to Dan

specifically because she knew he wouldn't let her

worst instincts rule her in this. Dan hands her

the letter one last time and walks away.

Yeah, it was a nice scene with them, and I like

that they had the whole, like, if you face yours,

I'll face mine. They're. They have a good

partnership like that. Also, I get taping back

the. The letter, but why would you tape the

envelope, too? Like, that just seems like more.

Girona wasn't supposed to see it first. That's why

she matches. I didn't read it. Gossip Girl takes

us to the final break with. There once was a

princess Bee undone by the question, who's the

daddy? But it's time to find out. Will it be Chuck

or will it be Louie? We move into the epilogue.

Blair shows up at the Empire and lets Chuck know

that she is pregnant and he is not the father.

Blair is introduced to Monkey, who Chuck has

decided to keep. Blair's parting words are that

there was a part of her that wanted the baby to be

Chuck's.

Robin was like, that's a weird thing to say. And

I'm like, it's a very chair thing to say. It's. It

is.

It's that whole tortured forever.

It is right in line with their up relationship.

Then what's that? What is it that. That. That Nate

says earlier on when. When Chuck says something

like, no one understands.

Yeah, because you're not normal.

Yeah, because you're not normal. Because it's not

natural.

But, yeah, so you said earlier you think it is.

Chuck, she's lying.

Yeah. Yeah, I think she's lying. I think she's

lying. But she wants the fairy tale, and I think

that's what that line is? This fairy tale is

complicated that she really wants that she's found

someone who loves her to the moon. Right. And he's

royalty. And she loves him too.

Eddie's virile.

Eddie's virile. Yeah, we know that too. So he

makes her happy, but there's still that missing

something. But also it's everything she ever

wanted. So, like, yeah, I get, like, it is

complicated, Blair, but I also don't think it's

her kid. His. I think it's Chuck's. I don't think

it's Blair's.

It's Chuck and Louise.

Yeah. Twist.

Dan shows up at Shapiro's celebration who claims

Dan Humphrey was his inspiration for the main

character of Inside side, Dylan Hunter. Dan has

had enough and claims the book as his own.

However, it turns out that it was actually what

Shapiro had planned all along, and it seems like

everyone was in on it.

Yeah. And, it's good that he wasn't a complete

piece of shit. And then he's actually trying to.

To boost his.

His first actual piece of mentoring.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Without just getting him a gig

spying on somebody outside of his league. So,

yeah, I'm a little nervous for Dan with this, but

it looks like he's getting his book published.

It's published. as we saw at the final scene

there, it is published.

Back at the penthouse, Lily, Rufus, Ivy and Carol

are toasting second chances. Lily invites Ivy to

stay in Serena's old room, and Carol is reluctant

to let that happen, but doesn't have any real

argument. Ivy hugs Carol so they can have a

conversation that isn't overheard by the others,

and Ivy tells her she'll make sure cece reinstates

her access to the trust.

Yeah. The girl's like, yeah, fuck you. Fuck you,

little girl. Everything that happens from here on

out is on, your head. Although I also think. I

also think that Carol's snide comment about, like,

whatever is coming to you is with the assumption

that Lily and Serena are end up gonna end up being

shitty to her because they're all shitty to each

other.

We shall see. Dan is back at the loft and receives

a delivery with a copy of Inside now bearing a

sticker showing his name as the author rather than

the printed Anonymous. Even though it may wreak

havoc on his social life, Dan can't help but smile

in pride at seeing the COVID Yeah, it's funny.

Like, that would be a huge moment.

Yeah. Yeah, like, that has to just feel amazing to

pull that Book out and see your name on it and see

the COVID that somebody gave it and see the.

Looks remarkably like the Gossip Girl cover.

Yes.

Not exactly, but it's definitely pretty damn

We shift to a scene of, Louis and Blair sitting

knees together on Blair's bed. Louis is actually

ecstatic at the pregnancy news. It turns out he

lied in his interview, said the press wouldn't put

Blair on baby watch. They decided to go out and

celebrate. And Blair hides the test results in her

desk as she gets ready.

That didn't necessarily looked opened. I don't

know if that was what they were going for. If it

was that it's Chuck's and she was hiding it, or if

it was, she never actually looked, which is kind

of my impression.

M. I'm gonna say she did actually look. Okay, I'm

not gonna say who it is, but I will say that she

could just be hiding it for the fact that the fact

that taking the test basically proves that she

cheated is incriminating.

I had that thought, too. That, like, oh, we're

having a baby. Wait, why did.

Why did you get a very dangerous pregnancy

paternity test in the womb?

Yeah. Why did you risk the baby's life for

paternity test if I'm clearly the dad? Yeah, Yeah,

I did. I did also have that thought that it would

be good evidence to burn

right away, but obviously it's going to come back

up because she just put it in her desk. I mean,

that's pretty obvious. Yeah, so I don't think

that's really a spoiler for anyone.

They wouldn't if they didn't want us. Yeah, they

showed us that letter again for a reason.

Chuck is writhing on the bed in apparent agony.

Finally able to feel something. Monkey hops up on

the bed and lays his head on Chuck to comfort him.

And Chuck lets out a single tear and kisses

Monkey.

Okay, why does Chuck writhing in ecstasy while

he's feeling so sad?

Like, because Ed is not a good actor.

He is not a good actor. And this was just some of

the worst. Like, when he first was on there, I was

like, is he, like, getting Ed? And then I was

like, what is going on in this? Oh, he feels

again. Oh, it's sadness that he feels. Okay, all

right, I'm just gonna accept that.

And he's not molesting that dog. Yes.

Yes.

Serena is helping Ivy unpack her things in the

bedroom. Formerly known as Serena's. Formerly

known as Jenny's. Formerly known as Serena's. Ivy

realizes she has Left her phone at the party.

Yeah, she forgot her phone at the party. And now

all the phones are currently in possession of

someone else.

Yeah, we see Diana going through the photos

downloaded from everyone's phones. Nate says he

has returned all the phones except for the one

that didn't have a tag. As they are wondering

about the owner, it receives a text to Ivy from

Max.

Nate, do you know how many counts of felony

privacy laws you committed and broke and theft?

This newspaper is on the hook for millions in

damages already. You can't print anything you

have.

And I do like that. Once again, the Gossip Girl

writers show so they know how to use writing tools

within an episode. This was really well said

because they show first they show Ivy leaving the

voicemail for Max, and then they show the phone

getting untagged and just left at reception. So

it's setting up this final scene. Yeah, and that

is the final scene of the episode. And Gossip Girl

ends this with the true author of a tell all tome

has been revealed, and the author's name is one

everyone will recognize. But the question is, will

anyone want to say it again once the book is out?

especially with Serena, because I'm sure that she

is going to be the least happy. We're also going

to see Blair read about herself in there in a

positive light at some point. And it's going to

give insight into

how, but presumably including a sexy. That may

probably not have that mayor. Probably not.

happened. But if it did, also further questions

the paternity of the child, which they haven't

brought up. So, I mean, Nate. So I hate when

Gossip Girl goes from scheming, undermining stuff

to, like, felony theft and breaking laws that

would actually land people in jail. So however

this plays out, I'm already annoyed. You know,

Like, I'm already annoyed with Nate falling for

all of this. I'm, really confused as to who

Elizabeth or who Diana is setting this up with,

because I thought it was Grandfather, but Nate

turned down grandfather's stuff to go do this. So

I'm really kind of torn on what. Who's pulling the

strings here.

any changes to your Louis timeline? I'm Z. Are

they just going to get married and he's here to

stay?

I don't think he's here to stay. Again, like, I

think there's going to be a wedding. I do believe

there's going to be a wedding. More and more, I'm

starting to think that that's going to be episode

11. But I do feel like there's going to be a

wedding and that there's going to be a big reveal

of sorts at the wedding. Or at least I don't think

Blair's going through with it. Or one of them is

going to bail at the altar, is my prediction for

Louis. We also have more stuff from his sister

coming, I'm sure. So her and the priest.

Lily's out of jail, so she's going to be up to

some shenanigans. Oh, and also, now that we're in

predictions, this is what I wanted to play from

the dungeon crawler Carl. It might have. It is

relevant to our show and to what we're talking

about right now in predictions, and kind of goes

along with some things that I have kind of been

saying. So this is from chapter 36 of the first

book.

watch, no one else is watching Gossip Girl, so she

has no one to talk about it with.

they first said season five, I was like, Should I

stop this right now? Like, I'm not going to not

read the book. But, yeah. So I do know there's

going to be an accident that is going to be awful.

And maybe that could be Lily. That'd be a great

way out for them, honestly. And then Blair would

have the baby, who is now the prince.

one character we'll often name. So there's a trope

in the book where goblins aren't named because

they're just NPCs. So she starts naming them and

names two of them, Lorelei and Rory, and later

uses, code names of Ivy and Nate for a character.

Yeah, yeah, there are many. I do highly recommend

this book series, and I highly recommend, the

audiobook, because the guy reading it is doing

just a phenomenal job with the voice acting. But

it's got that. It is pop culture mixed with video

game culture, so it's fun. Anyway, I did want to

throw that in with the predictions today.

I felt. So I thought that was good for her, too.

week?

I thought it was fun. I didn't think it was

groundbreaking by any means, and I didn't think it

was great. I'm gonna go B minus.

I actually really like this episode. I laughed out

loud several times. I thought there's a lot of

good dialogue. The Diana Nate storyline is kind of

stupid, but at least they're giving him something

of substance. Like, yes, he is an older woman

again, but he's also involved in crime. I think

it's gonna blow up in his face, but it's at least

interesting. And also now he's being tied into the

Charlie story Ivy storyline, which obviously the

writers think is important because it is pretty

much forefront so far this season. Like that. That

and Dan's book are kind of the big stories, and

they're the wedding, obviously, the royal stuff.

give it to her. The lavender sequin dress she was

wearing in the show. But also, it could easily go

on to Ivy's dress. That was amazing as well.

Yeah, I thought Ivy's was okay, but also I was

influenced by Robin, who didn't think it was. Who

didn't really like that one. Robin said, no, no,

no, it's pretty, but it's not bag drop pretty.

It's the Precious. Yeah, it's no Season 4 Oscar de

la Renta train station dress. So now that that bar

definitively playing the Morgantown Cana Fest on
