Shownotes

The way to find a transcript for a podcast on Pocket Casts and Fountain has changed, and here's what you need to know.

This is an update episode, and so connects directly with a previous episode of Podcasting 2.0 in Practice.

If you are new to the subject of Podcasting 2.0, it would be a great idea for you to complete the Podcasting 2.0 in Practice course. This is a podcast series that looks at just one 2.0 feature – also known as a tag – at a time and teaches you what it is, why it’s good, and how to make it work. The course focuses specifically on how each feature can help podcasters with discovery, interactivity or monetisation – or a combination of the three.

Claire Waite Brown:

Welcome Back to Podcasting 2.0 in Practice.

More holiday homework where I guide you through a few updates to the Podcasting 2.0 features we learned about in the first series of Podcasting 2.0 in Practice. If you are new to the subject of Podcasting 2.0, please please head back to the beginning of the Podcasting 2.0 in Practice course.

It will make your life so much easier. For this update, we're looking at the Transcript feature, which was covered in detail in episodes 13 to 14 of podcasting 2.0 in practice.

Let's start with Pocket Casts.

In the latest update, things look a little different to how I described them in episode 14 on the show screen where you can see all of the episodes listed out. Click on your desired episode and the screen that comes next features a big button saying View Transcript.

Click here and you can search the transcript as I Described in episode 14.

If you are in the play screen of an episode where the chapter art is displayed on the screen, you will need to click on the three dots at the bottom of the screen to locate the transcript. From there, things look a little different in Fountain too.

As with Pocket Casts, when you are on the show screen with all the episodes listed out, you can click on an episode to be taken to a page that shows that episode's show notes any activity the episode has had, such as boosts and the first few chapters. On this page, there is also a Transcript button. When on the play screen for that episode. As instructed in episode 14, you can click on the CC icon.

These days, however, you don't need to scroll down to locate the icons.

And as I mentioned in the Holiday Homework episode on Chapter Updates Episode 33 for you number fans, these icons remain at the bottom of the screen after you click on any one of them. I explained previously that Fountain highlights the text in blocks in sync with where you are listening.

However, it now does better than that and highlights two lines at a time. Ish. You can still click on a section of text in the transcript to be taken to that place in the audio. Thanks so much for listening.
