Speaker:

Words of Wisdom 143 on emotional

resilience in relationships.

2

:

Intensity in a relationship

is a sugar rush.

3

:

It's short, fleeting, and unsatisfying.

4

:

Intimacy is the meat and potatoes.

5

:

Cultivate emotional resilience

to feast on deep connection.

6

:

Conflict is the vegetables.

7

:

The last thing you want,

but necessary to thrive.

8

:

In order to improve your emotional

resilience, you must keep

9

:

having vulnerable conversations.

10

:

Two.

11

:

To have a vulnerable conversation,

first identify something that

12

:

is difficult to talk about.

13

:

Then, share the topic, how you

feel, and the story you are

14

:

attaching to your feelings.

15

:

Here is a formula you can use.

16

:

When X happened, I felt Y.

17

:

The meaning I made was Z.

18

:

3.

19

:

Emotional sobriety means you stay grounded

and connected, feeling your emotions but

20

:

not avoiding them or getting flooded.

21

:

A drunk makes excuses so

they can keep on drinking.

22

:

Don't be an emotional drunkard.

23

:

Seek emotional sobriety.

24

:

Choose the feeling you most commonly get

drunk on and surrender it to God, vowing

25

:

to never again do so, and learn to rely

on God's power to keep you centered.

26

:

If you don't commit to the narrow way,

to the goal of emotional sobriety,

27

:

you'll certainly never get there.

28

:

As it turns out, vulnerable conversations

are key to emotional sobriety.

29

:

Four.

30

:

Make a commitment today to

grow in emotional resilience.

31

:

Invest in resilience, and it will

add up, having a compounding impact

32

:

on your life and relationship.

33

:

But it takes time.

34

:

Refuse to take shortcuts.

35

:

By cultivating emotional resilience,

you're not just improving your own

36

:

emotional well being, but you're

also creating stronger, more

37

:

fulfilling, and richer relationships.

38

:

Prayer.

39

:

Help me to be the boy with

five loaves and two fish.

40

:

Help me to be a giver when I come

across need, to show up with all

41

:

that I have, give what I can, and to

respond immediately to your guidance.

42

:

Lead me in my next steps

and provide for me richly.

43

:

Above all, may I feast

on your loving presence.

44

:

I surrender everything

and everyone to you, Lord.

45

:

Do with me and what you have

entrusted to me as you desire.

46

:

Amen.

47

:

Live wisely, Josh.
