JUDE

He’s hurt, he- I shouldn’t have shared the injury, I-

VAL

Jude-

JUDE

He needs medical attention!

VAL

You need medical attention! Where is that damn nurse?

PATRICK

On the way.

VAL

Good.

ESTEE

I’m so sorry, Jude. We should’ve seen Mosaic’s plan coming.

JUDE

When can I see him?

VAL

Wha- Never!

JUDE

When can I be released?

ESTEE

You are still actively bleeding.

JUDE

(still crying) Answer me! When can I be released? I need to see him!

VAL

That’s ridiculous. I’m sorry, Solis, but we can’t knowingly let you walk into danger like that, let alone when you’re injured. You’re not going to see him.

JUDE

If I have to walk out of this tower on my own, I will, Val. One way or another, I am going to find him and make sure he’s okay.

VAL

(sigh) Jesus Christ. Okay, fine, just… rest first. He was with the Vindicators; I’m sure they’re taking care of him. Rest for a day or two, and then we’ll help you find him so you can talk. Deal?

JUDE

(sniffles) Deal.

-SCENE CUT 1-

NEVAEH

Do we have stitches?

CAMREN

It’s your damn house.

NEVAEH

If you’re not going to help, get out!

(knock on door)

SYDNEY

Someone’s at the door.

NEVAEH

I can hear that, Syd! Here, hold this against his wound.

(Nevaeh quickly walks to the door, opens it: Mariangel is standing there)

MARIANGEL

I have a first aid kit with me.

NEVAEH

…Okay. Come in.

(Nevaeh closes the door, they both walk back to Mosaic and the others)

CAMREN

Excuse me? Why is she here?

NEVAEH

Because she is actually trying to help!

MARIANGEL

We have to clean it first. Where exactly is he hurt?

SYDNEY

Abdomen. I don’t think it hit anything vital, but he’s bleeding a lot.

CAMREN

What even hit him? What did Solis do to you, Mosaic?

APOLLO

(groans) Solis?

CAMREN

(impatiently) Yes, Solis.

APOLLO

Where are ey?

CAMREN

How are we supposed to fucking know? The fucker bailed on you!

APOLLO

Ey did not! Ey’re hurt, I- I need to see em! Why did you separate us?

CAMREN

Separate you? What do you mean-

NEVAEH

Are you kidding me? You fucking shot them and then they hurt you, somehow. Obviously we separated you. (sigh) We’re going to need a new plan. Now that we know their identity, maybe we can-

APOLLO

We’re not going to hurt em! I fucking love em, I’m not going to let you hurt em.

(silence)

NEVAEH

(quietly) We had one rule.

CAMREN

I knew this would happen.

(Camren storms out of the room)

SYDNEY

…You don’t love Solis. You don’t give a flying fuck about Solis. They’re a hero, and you’re a villain. You hate Solis. You-

(Mariangel punches Liar Liar, Sydney yelps in pain)

NEVAEH

Mariangel!

SYDNEY

Did you just punch me?

MARIANGEL

Don't even try that shit. Solis is a good person who accepted and trusted Mosaic when nobody else would. I know for a fact that they care about Mosaic just as much as he cares about them, and you are not going to convince either of them otherwise, goddammit!

APOLLO

It wouldn’t have worked anyway. I don’t think there’s any power in the world strong enough to make me hate Solis.

MARIANGEL

I can get you into the tower. We should probably wait a day or so to let things cool down, but then… You can talk to em, sort this out.

NEVAEH

Ey hurt him!

APOLLO

I asked em to! And besides, I hurt em first. We’re even.

NEVAEH

Goddammit…

SYDNEY

You can’t seriously be considering this.

NEVAEH

(sigh) If this is what my idiot brother wants, then… Then I’m going to support him.

APOLLO

(relieved) Thank you, Nevaeh.

SYDNEY

This house is a fucking nightmare.

-SCENE CUT 2-

(Mariangel, Nevaeh, and Apollo walking up to the tower)

(Mari rings the buzzer)

MARIANGEL

Hi! I’m here to see Jude?

(pause)

VAL

Who are your friends?

MARIANGEL

Um… They’re Jude’s friends too. 🥺 They know about Everything, don’t worry.

VAL

… Jesus Christ. Fine, ey’re going out of eir mind with boredom anyway.

TOWER

(Access Granted.)

(door slides open)

(they walk to the medbay)

NEVAEH

(quietly) Keep your guard up.

APOLLO

I know.

MARIANGEL

No one’s going to hurt you. We’re just a couple of Jude’s friends, going to see Jude. It’s no big deal.

NEVAEH

Right.

(they enter the medbay)

VAL

Hi, Mariangel. Ey’re right through here.

MARIANGEL

Thank you!

(curtain opens, Jude sees Apollo and literally jumps out of bed)

JUDE

Apollo!

APOLLO

Jude!

(they run and hug each other)

VAL

Jesus- Don’t run, you have a stab wound!

NEVAEH

Goddammit, Apollo!

ESTEE

You’re gonna tear your stitches. 😭

PATRICK

Do we know this guy?

APOLLO

I’m so sorry. I- I didn’t mean to hurt you.

JUDE

(closing off slightly) You meant to hurt the governor.

APOLLO

No! I mean… Yes. Yes, I did. And I’m sorry for that, I shouldn’t have- I wasn’t- I’m sorry. For lying, about wanting to be a hero.

JUDE

(pained) You were lying the whole time?

APOLLO

No! I- Dammit, yes. I’m so sorry, I- Jude, I care about you. A lot.

JUDE

But not enough to tell me the truth. Not enough to keep from manipulating my faith in you to get what you wanted.

APOLLO

(desperately) Jude, please. I- I regret it! I know I shouldn’t have pretended, I know I hurt you, I-

JUDE

I think maybe it’s best if we don’t see each other for a while.

APOLLO

What?

JUDE

I just… I don’t think I can trust you. Not after-

APOLLO

I love you!

JUDE

…What?

APOLLO

I love you. I’m telling the truth, I swear to god, I- I have fallen in love with you. With Jude and with Solis. I can’t- I can’t lose you. Please, Jude. I understand if you don’t trust me, I- You deserve so much better. But if you give me a second chance, I swear to god I will put it to good use. I won’t let you down again.

VAL

(sternly) Unfortunately, that’s not entirely Jude’s decision.

JUDE

(nervously) Val-

VAL

After that conversation, it’s clear you’re Mosaic. And after the gala, it’s clear you don’t belong anywhere near Jude, or the tower.

APOLLO

But the treaty-

VAL

Was broken as soon as you fucking shot Solis! Get out of here before I have Sentinel break your legs.

APOLLO

(in tears) Please. Please, I’m so sorry, I-

VAL

Sentinel?

PATRICK

Got it.

ESTEE

(uncertain) Val-

JUDE

Don’t fucking touch him.

VAL

Excuse me?

JUDE

(darkly) If you hurt him, I will use my power to take the injury onto myself.

VAL

(alarmed) You can do that!?

JUDE

I don’t know, Val. But I’m willing to find out.

VAL

Dammit, Jude! He lied to you for an entire month and then betrayed you, broke your heart, and shot you on live television. Why are you defending him?

JUDE

Because- Because I love him, too.

VAL

That’s not healthy!

APOLLO

I didn’t mean to hurt em! I would never hurt em, not like this.

VAL

(deep breath) Sentinel, do not physically hurt Mosaic, but we are taking him to a cell until the authorities can get here. Grab his arm.

JUDE

No, wait-

APOLLO

Val, please-

NEVAEH

I’ll step down.

(silence)

VAL

And who the hell are you?

NEVAEH

Providence.

(Val and Patrick and Estee gasp)

NEVAEH

And I will step down from villainy if you give my brother a second chance. Wipe his record, let him try to be a hero for real this time, if he wants. I can’t speak for Absolute Zero and Liar Liar, but I’ll talk to them. Maybe you and I can work out a real treaty.

VAL

…Let’s bring this conversation to another room.

(Nevaeh and Val leave the room)

MARIANGEL

I’ll give you two some space.

ESTEE

Come on, Pat.

PATRICK

…Be careful, Solis.

(Mari, Estee, and Pat leave the room, leaving Jude and Apollo alone)

JUDE

…This doesn’t fix things, Apollo.

APOLLO

I know-

JUDE

But I’ve loved you for years, as Mosaic. And then I met you again as Apollo, and you were so- well- you.

APOLLO

Jude…

JUDE

Would you really try, this time? To be a hero?

APOLLO

Yes! I’d do anything. Maybe- Maybe villainy isn’t the best way to get things done. Not if it hurts the people I care about. And, who knows, maybe I’ll get more done as a hero than I ever did as a villain.

JUDE

Val is easily influenced. The governor, not so much.

APOLLO

(huff) The governor’s term ends soon. Maybe someone else will run.

JUDE

(half-joking) Maybe Nevaeh can give it a shot.

APOLLO

She… might actually like that. I’ll mention it to her. Maybe she could gain some traction, with Val’s help.

(pause)

APOLLO

…I really am sorry, Jude. I didn’t go into this intending to hurt you. I… I liked you, even before this whole fake dating thing. You were my nemesis. My rival.

JUDE

And now I’m your partner!

APOLLO

You are!?

JUDE

Oh! I mean, if- only if you want to be. I… Yeah. If you want to be mine, then… I want to be yours. And not just in the superhero-allies way.

APOLLO

Just to be clear. In the actually-dating way? You- You’re asking me to be your boyfriend?

JUDE

That depends. Are you accepting?

APOLLO

Yes. Yes, absolutely, without question. Fuck, Jude, I love you.

JUDE

I love you too. Can I- This is stupid…

APOLLO

No it’s not. What is it?

JUDE

APOLLO

We’ve been dealing with this tension for three years, Jude, just with masks on. I think it makes sense that the first time our faces are uncovered, we make use of it.

JUDE

(giggles) I like you with your mask off.

APOLLO

(flustered) Yeah, I- I like you, too. You’re the best rival I could’ve ever asked for.

JUDE

Now’s your chance to be the best boyfriend I could’ve ever asked for. Kiss me?

APOLLO
