[00:00:32] Eric Goranson: Thanks for joining us today. Well, I got a couple important topics to hit on First. We need to talk about some recalls cuz uh, you know, we always grab these in the middle of the week, but I tell you what, there is a massive amount this week that could affect you and the stuff inside your home. First off, all you Peloton users, they just recalled 2 million exercise bikes due to fallen injury hazards.
[:[00:01:23] Eric Goranson: Now these are things to tell you. One thing, when you see these recalls, it tells you that, uh, when this happens, that continental, which is one of the American woodmark brands in Hampton Bay, are pretty much the same cabin. I bet they went down the same production line. So if you're out comparing cabinets and you're looking at Hampton Bay to Continental, you probably are looking at the exact same box.
[:[00:02:13] Eric Goranson: So that tells me usually how American wood marks build these cabinets. And I've seen these built many times. Many times these, these are a lower end kind of entry level cabinet, they're assembled. But what happens is, is the particle board sides are rabbited. Back there and there is a hot glue that holds that whole box together in the backside with maybe some staples depending on how it was built, and if they didn't use the right hot glue or didn't use enough of it, or didn't use any staples, those things can happen on a production line.
[:[00:03:07] Eric Goranson: So if you have American Woodmark or Continental Hampton Bay, take a look, that could be a big one. So that's a key right there for all your cocktail drinkers. World market recalls, cocktail shakers due to laceration hazard. The glass cocktail shakers can crack and break during use. So, uh, be careful that don't use that.
[:[00:03:49] Eric Goranson: Determine where the blade tip is protruding to the package. Yes, the utility knife can become unlocked and come through in the original packaging, posing a [00:04:00] laceration hatcher hazard. So, Just go get a better knife guys. Just get rid of that one. There's 36, 30 6,250 people bought a Blue Ridge knife from, from, uh, target.
[:[00:04:31] Eric Goranson: Let me make sure there's nothing else. Oh yeah, there was another one here OD L OD L recalls severe weather door glass inserts due to hurricane zone windborn debris. Injury hazards during severe weather conditions such as hurricanes, adhesive bond holding the door glass inserts can become separated from the door, causing risk of injury or property damage.
[:[00:05:23] Eric Goranson: That's one there. And then there's just a ton of, uh, pool drain covers and, uh, other stuff like that that are, that are keys out there. So if you've got some pool drain covers, take a look at that. That's a pretty specialized one. And that covers all of our stuff for this week. Uh, still had 2.2 million of the DeWalt Stanley Craftsman fiberglass sledgehammers.
[:[00:06:15] Eric Goranson: Get underneath there and take a look. I wanna make sure that I see structural bolts and screws holding that ledger to the house, so that's that flat board where the deck is connected to the house. If that is nailed, do not get on it until you have structural screws holding that to the house. If it is punky, rotten, nasty.
[:[00:07:01] Eric Goranson: Handrails, are they attached? If two people go leaning up against the handrail, are they gonna fall off? These are all solid things. I want you to go around and inspect it and if you'd like to have an inspection sheet, go ahead and email me. I can get you that. Uh, just head over to around the house online.com.
[:[00:07:42] Eric Goranson: So let's just make sure that they're safe and everything's connected well and you've got all the right metal fasteners and all the right places. If big pieces of wood are connecting, I wanna see a fastener there that is metal, a Simpson strong tie or similar, holding it together. And that is an easy fix.[00:08:00]
[:[00:08:33] Eric Goranson: The kids are going to open the windows at. Here's the thing, it's so simple to do. For about 30 bucks, you can get a handful of these things online and go out and put those locks on there, so they open just a few inches. Kinda like what you would see with the railing. You don't want anybody to get through it.
[:[00:09:10] Eric Goranson: So dressers, toy, chest, those are ladders to help kids get up into that window. So make sure there's, that's a clear area in front of the window. And then have the discussion with the kiddo too. Hey, you can fall out. That's a long fall. You will fall off from this. Having that hard discussion with 'em to make sure that they understand that they can't open that window and lean up against it, that could save a life.
[:[00:09:54] Eric Goranson: You don't wanna see a, a, uh, relative get hurt. And knowing that you could have spent 20 [00:10:00] bucks and somebody else told you and you didn't do it. So make sure that you've got that set up so kids aren't falling outta windows. I mean, Eric Clapton. You know, he wrote a famous song about his child falling out of a window.
[:[00:10:32] Eric Goranson: But, uh, make sure that you've got those window locks on there so you can get that safe. All right, everybody, have a great rest of the week. Stay cool out there. I know we've had some heat here in my area. I'm sure you do in yours, and enjoy it. We've got a great show coming up this weekend. We're gonna be talking about everything from Dex to, uh, what's the dirtiest place of your house, what's got the most germs to how to keep your house cool in the summertime.
[:[00:11:15] Eric Goranson: Got some great interviews, new products, and uh, some new products that are made in usa. If you're looking for a Made in USA product, we're highlighting them over there. Thanks for tuning in to around the House.
