Good News 2023 Season Closing

The Listening for Clues team, Co-hosts Jon Shematek and Lauren Welch, and Director Lynn Shematek, gather to reflect on creating twenty-one "Good News!" podcasts published since June 2023. They are humbled and grateful to have heard and shared the stories of remarkable individuals who are making a difference in the world, be it large or small. Even as the 2023 season draws to a close, plans are underway for even more to come in 2024. In this final episode of the year, they express thanks to their guests as well as their viewers and listeners. Watch or listen to this episode, and any others in the series at https://listeningforclues.com/

Stay tuned for information about their upcoming four-part program (to be launched on November 27): "Discover Advent in Everyday Moments.".

Resources mentioned in this episode:

Listening for Clues is pleased to present our new series, "Good News!" featuring weekly conversations with people who are making a difference, large or small. We want everyone to know what they are doing, why they are doing it, and how. So, our listeners and viewers can experience the good news and go out and make a difference themselves.

Listening for Clues invites you into conversations that discover clues, rather than solutions to life’s problems. Join the journey with Jon Shematek and Lauren Welch, Episcopal deacons, as we explore whatever lies ahead. Check our website Listening for Clues.

2

:

Jon: Welcome to Good News, being

brought to you by Listening for Clues.

3

:

Lauren: We are Lauren Welch and

Jon Shematek, Deacons in the

4

:

Episcopal Diocese of Maryland.

5

:

Jon: We sure are, and today

is a very special episode.

6

:

This is our final recorded episode

of our:

7

:

And so we've asked the third member of our

Listening for Clues team, Lynn Shematek,

8

:

to join us for this farewell episode.

9

:

Lauren: So Jon, what was this like to

do this podcast for the first time?

10

:

Jon: Wow.

11

:

It was an amazing experience.

12

:

I think we were terrified, we worried

about the technology not working,

13

:

which it did almost all the time.

14

:

We wondered, would we get any guests

who would be interested in coming?

15

:

And I wondered if we'd really

have anything to talk about.

16

:

And sure enough I would say

things went really smoothly.

17

:

It was exciting and humbling.

18

:

Lauren: Certainly.

19

:

I know it was a delight for me to, to

see how many people wanted to share

20

:

their stories and how many people

were doing such wonderful things.

21

:

I mean, It was delightful.

22

:

Lynn: Both of you asked

such wonderful questions.

23

:

Cause I, was in the background

doing, clicking everything.

24

:

And, and then I would hear your question,

I'd think, Ooh, is that a good question?

25

:

I'd like that.

26

:

And then, you know, we would go

and, and then the conversation

27

:

would go on a little more.

28

:

And then you'd ask another question.

29

:

And it wasn't just Jon, it

wasn't just Lauren, it was...

30

:

Both of you together.

31

:

You can tell you've worked

together, I think, a little bit.

32

:

For a few years.

33

:

Jon: Just for a while.

34

:

But yeah, so I would say all in all,

this was just an amazing experience

35

:

I think what we should do Lauren

is thank our guests and just talk

36

:

about our guests for just a minute.

37

:

Lauren: Our guests span

generations from, 20 to 80, right?

38

:

We had many talents people who were

authors and musicians and ran nonprofits.

39

:

people who were social activists

and advocates, volunteers, other

40

:

podcasters prophetic voices and lay

people, bishops, priest and Deacons.

41

:

It was a rich variety of people that,

that signed up to share the good news.

42

:

Jon: Yeah, so we had 21

guests since mid June.

43

:

Every week we had a new guest.

44

:

And they were all very different, yet

in a way they were very much united in

45

:

their commitment to Doing some good in the

world, to making the world a better place.

46

:

And some in a very small way and others

are making a huge impact, but we hope

47

:

that our viewers and listeners had a

chance to hear some of these stories.

48

:

And to start thinking about, gosh,

is this something I could do?

49

:

Do I want to be part of that thing?

50

:

Or should I even think

about starting my own?

51

:

So even if one person did that, I

would think this would be a success.

52

:

But you know, earlier today,

Lynn asked me about the numbers.

53

:

of people that viewed our

podcast or listened to it.

54

:

You know, we have our website listening

for clues, which hosts all of our

55

:

podcasts, and we had just about.

56

:

2, 000 page views to Listening

for Clues since mid June,

57

:

since we started this program.

58

:

On YouTube, which is where we're hosting

all of our videos, but just started to

59

:

promote that a little bit we've had almost

1, 400 views of our good news videos.

60

:

And on Captivate which is

our audio podcast host.

61

:

We had something like about 500 downloads

of the audio podcast so a lot of

62

:

people have been listening, watching.

63

:

Taking part and hopefully

being inspired by him.

64

:

So that's just great.

65

:

We said, this is our last episode of 2023.

66

:

Are we done?

67

:

Are we coming back?

68

:

Lauren, what are we going to do?

69

:

Lauren: We're going to come back

in:

70

:

forward to people signing up.

71

:

Before that, we're going to have a mini

series the end of November and we'll

72

:

tell you more about that as time goes on.

73

:

Jon: Right, so kind of stay

tuned, next week we'll put out a

74

:

publication that talks about what's

coming up in our mini series.

75

:

We'll have some great folks lined

up for next year already for coming

76

:

back to more episodes of good news.

77

:

And we're hoping that even others will

will join us as we move forward in

78

:

spreading the good news about people who

are making a difference in the world.

79

:

Lauren: And before we go, we want to

thank all of our listeners and viewers.

80

:

We can't do this without you, so we

look forward to seeing you next year.

81

:

Until next time, peace and blessings.
