Yeah, Dawson, he was masturbating to Katie.
Leif:Couric, which brings up so many
Leif:edible, questions.
Steve:That's so funny.
Andy:Oh, yeah, because, yeah, his mom is a reporter.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's right. We watched some of
Steve:that. Also, Dorota, why so
Steve:judgy?
Leif:Hey, upper east siders and all you scandal loving listeners out
Leif:there, you just tuned into the non judging breakfast
Leif:pod, where the coffee is strong, the waffles
Leif:are fresh, and the gossip is hotter than ever.
Leif:My name is Leif, and I'm your seasoned gossip girl
Leif:veteran.
Steve:And I'm Steve. I'm the newbie, the greenhorn,
Steve:the. I don't know, Leif, what's the season
Steve:two nuke, hit on the block in Gossip girl
Steve:turns?
Leif:I don't know, but you're gonna have to take off your shirt and dance for the camera if you want to
Leif:make it to the top.
Steve:Well, either that, or I'm gonna have to walk out on Eleanor
Steve:Waldorf, so.
Leif:Sounds good.
Steve:So here's the deal, folks. Leif has been a
Steve:fan of Gossip Girl since it first aired, and I'm
Steve:watching for the very first time. And together, we're your
Steve:dynamic duo, bringing you all the drama,
Steve:romance, and sometimes questionable
Steve:fashion choices of this iconic
Steve:2007 series.
Leif:That's right. Each week, we're going to take a deep dive into the
Leif:show one episode at a time. We're going to analyze all the
Leif:hidden references, parallels, and, of course, the
Leif:guitar. Guitar. And along the way, we're going to talk about
Leif:some stories from fandom and some behind the scenes gossip.
Steve:And since we're all about inclusivity here at the non
Steve:judging breakfast pod, there's always room for you at the
Steve:non judging breakfast table. So go ahead and grab your
Steve:mimosa, your cup of coffee, or some
Steve:of, ah, Nate and Chuck special medicine, and let's
Steve:go ahead and get started.
Leif:all right. And, Steve, once again, we are not
Leif:alone. We are with a guesthouse. We are with
Leif:Andy Green. He is the host
Leif:of the Naked man podcast and formerly from
Leif:gossip Guys.
Steve:Yes.
Leif:Welcome.
Steve:Andy.
Leif:How's it going?
Andy:Hello. Thank you. I spotted you.
Andy:Found me.
Andy:Still, it's a small island, and it's hard, but it's hard
Andy:to get off of, huh?
Steve:Yep.
Leif:Hard to get off the island.
Andy:Yeah. I thought I'd escaped, and
Andy:you, roped me back in.
Leif:So, have you watched any gossip
Leif:girl since, you know, the podcast
Leif:ended?
Andy:I have not. I don't. I don't think so. I.
Andy:And, we. At one point, we're gonna do the new
Andy:show and continue. But we. We
Andy:really. We did, like, 150
Andy:episodes. We were like, you
Andy:know, we were losing. Losing the,
Andy:like thing, and we wanted to keep the original alive
Andy:and not go down that road, or else I'd still be.
Andy:Still be there, I guess. But, yeah, I think that was kind
Andy:of fun to not have, you know, give it a couple
Andy:years before watching this episode and throw myself in the
Andy:middle of a season. But, like, I. Yeah, I know where we
Andy:are. This is, painfully familiar.
Steve:Now, did you have the same sort of format
Steve:that we're doing that one of you had seen it and one of you
Steve:hadn't? And which one you?
Andy:Ah. Aaron was leaf, and I was
Andy:you, Steve.
Leif:Oh, awesome.
Andy:I was the newbie going into it for the first
Andy:time, and I actually was going to ask, like, are
Andy:you. Do you know spoilers going
Andy:forward?
Steve:No.
Steve:The one thing that I say all the time,
Steve:that by the end of season one, I
Steve:have avoided spoilers as much as I can, but there's
Steve:been a couple things that have kind of just brushed
Steve:past, and it's driven me only to one
Steve:conclusion, and that's that they're all going to fuck
Steve:that at some point. By
Steve:the end, they're, all of them at one
Steve:point, maybe altogether, I don't know.
Andy:But, I mean, that would be
Andy:a good reunion episode if it hasn't happened. I don't
Andy:want to spoil anything, but, yeah, yeah,
Andy:I was similar. Like, I mean, I did
Andy:about midway through, I did get the ultimate spoiler.
Andy:about who gossip girl is. And
Andy:so that, of course, shaped the
Andy:viewing, but, yeah, I hope you can.
Leif:Don'T drink in podcast.
Steve:Yeah, our friend
Steve:Rachel almost spoiled that for me,
Steve:and I had to, very forcefully
Steve:say, no, I have not seen the
Steve:show.
Leif:So the reason I reached out to you was from, someone on our
Leif:discord, Jessica Bees.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:And she, she actually wanted to ask, are you still
Leif:in touch with Aaron?
Andy:Ooh. Are we ready for that gossip? I don't know if we're
Andy:ready for that gossip. to be
Andy:completely honest and transparent, we sort of had a
Andy:falling out. We kind of. We kind of. We kind of had our
Andy:breakup. Like, I think gossip girl took a lot out of us,
Andy:and we. We finished this project, and. And, yeah, we just sort
Andy:of have different. I mean, the whole show was us
Andy:being so different from one another.
Leif:Yeah.
Andy:Like, talked about it a lot, and it. And that was sort
Andy:of us arguing and yelling at each other, and that was our
Andy:relationship, which was good.
Leif:Yeah, it worked good.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Yeah. Well, thank you.
Andy:but, yeah, like, I mean, I still wish, you know, the best
Andy:for him, but, yeah, we're not. We haven't, Yeah, we almost went
Andy:to forever would, That almost was our sequel show,
Andy:and I think we both needed to spread our wings and
Andy:try other things, which is sort of what naked man was for me.
Andy:And. And I know Aaron's still, you know, riding,
Andy:plugging away, or as far as I know, you're gonna
Andy:bring him out and he's, like, behind you, and that.
Leif:Would be like, no, I was actually
Leif:thinking about him last week with the news of
Leif:Shannon Dougherty, so, Oh,
Leif:yeah.
Andy:That is. He would really appreciate that thought. And
Andy:I thought of him as well when I heard that because I know. Yeah. And
Andy:that's super sad. as well. And then,
Andy:like, 921 has been hit hard the last
Andy:couple years.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah. When. When I had the
Steve:realization that Luke and Brenda were. Both.
Steve:Had both died, it was really like,
Steve:wow, those two
Steve:definitely said it's just those two, right?
Steve:There's no. Has there been anyone else from
Steve:any of. None of the other.
Leif:The older one. The parents, maybe?
Andy:I think the parents, yeah. But I. I'm not the one to know.
Leif:I, I'm not a fan of rolling fan show.
Leif:I thought the acting was not great.
Steve:I. I was the exact.
Leif:I don't think the cast is the strong point in Gossip Girl. I think
Leif:that's what carried his show. Really?
Steve:Oh, yeah. yeah, that's definitely. I
Steve:was the perfect age for
Steve:90210 when that first season came out, too.
Steve:So my friend and I. And we were both, like,
Steve:in love with every woman on
Steve:that cast, too, so
Steve:we. Yeah, yes.
Leif:I was a little younger. So before we start the episode, we will talk
Leif:about the show that I grew up with, which is Dawson's
Leif:Creek, which, I know, you are a huge fan.
Steve:That.
Andy:Yeah, if, like, sort of. That should have been the podcast
Andy:I did. I mean,
Andy:spoilers, but I kind of gossip girl. I did not.
Andy:Like, by the end of it, I was just like, this. Yeah, I have a
Andy:lot of problems with this show, but it's also always, like, a
Andy:hate watch, guilty pleasure kind of a thing. I understand.
Andy:I get it. And I always. But, like, yeah, Creek is my
Andy:show, probably of any show, like,
Andy:the most influential in my life, weirdly.
Leif:Yeah. I was a year younger than the
Leif:Dawson's Creek. I was class 2002. They were zero
Leif:one.
Andy:Oh, so they were the upperclassmen. You were.
Leif:Yeah, yeah.
Andy:Having the drama. Yeah, I was a little bit. I was
Andy:younger and I watched it actually first through
Andy:TBS. That was where I found it. But
Andy:I'm like, still I'm on like number four or five watch
Andy:right now with my partner and she has not seen
Andy:it. So we're doing the non judging, cape side
Andy:pod. We're in the last season
Andy:and it's hard.
Steve:It's great.
Andy:It's really hard to get through.
Leif:I mean, so as a Dawson fan,
Leif:I actually like the fourth, fifth, and 6th
Leif:seasons quite a bit. Cause that that's kind of
Leif:immaturing, those seasons.
Andy:I I agree with you to a point. Cause I actually
Andy:really like Dawson's college stuff that he's
Andy:going on like,
Leif:The rest with those. Yeah.
Andy:But like, I think. I think I was into like maybe four.
Andy:Like, they both start.
Steve:Four.
Andy:Four and five will start out really well, I think. Or, like,
Andy:I'm interested in their new whereabouts, the new
Andy:storylines, new people. And I think by the end
Andy:of, I mean, especially five, that one just really drags
Andy:and is really like,
Leif:To get four of those by actually my favorite season.
Andy:Ooh, interesting. Yeah. Okay.
Leif:That that really was like the redemption of Dawson.
Andy:It was. And that's. I mean, is that
Andy:Dawson, after he.
Leif:Went to the lowest low at the end of season three.
Andy:Yes.
Leif:They built, they built. They finally built them out but gave him some
Leif:growth.
Andy:I mean, it took some tragedy, but. Yeah,
Andy:yeah, no, I'm with you. I think I have a soft spot for
Andy:those seasons. And, I mean, I love Audrey until
Andy:they, you know, ruin her, but they have to. She
Andy:can't be one of the main
Andy:four.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah.
Leif:The way that they treated Jen and Jack anyway, so,
Leif:yeah, he gave them not very good
Leif:stories. Yeah.
Andy:I feel bad about Jack's college years a lot. I
Andy:have, you know, sleepless nights thinking about that
Andy:and wondering, oh, man.
Andy:Yeah, he deserved better than that frat. God damn it.
Leif:Yeah, that was rough.
Andy:I think Agnes is Jack's frat, for,
Andy:like, that's getting ahead of her.
Leif:All right. So, yes, we are getting in. We're actually here to talk about
Leif:gastric girl today, season two, episode eight.
Steve:I'm really glad because I don't know shit about Dawson's
Steve:Creek.
Leif:Air j Original air date
Leif:October 27, 2008
Leif:anyone get the. Has anyone seen the movie? It's based on,
Leif:Pret Eporte.
Steve:Okay. So I
Steve:know, but
Steve:Robin instantly recognized the term,
Steve:which I, which I've never heard before, and she's like,
Steve:Robin, my wife. Robin instantly
Steve:said, that's a fashion term. Hold on
Steve:a second, pret a porter is.
Steve:It means ready to wear. Ready to wear. Yeah.
Steve:Essentially off the rack as opposed to courtier,
Steve:which is custom. So,
Steve:yeah. Thank you very much, Robin.
Leif:And so I've not seen the movie, but it's basically. It is a
Leif:movie takes place during fashion week, and it's a. It's a kind of a
Leif:whodunit. Kim Basinger's in it.
Andy:It's got a huge cast. They have a Julia Roberts in it.
Leif:It has Sophia Loren and Marcello
Leif:Mastriani, who, if you watch any italian movies from the
Leif:era, you'll know who that is.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:He's Kim Robbins. Forrest Whitaker. Yeah. Robert Altman directed it.
Andy:I did not see it. I was. I was thinking about
Andy:the fiore.
Leif:Lauren.
Andy:Yeah. But Lauren Bacall. The
Andy:reviews are bad. Lauren Bacall's in it.
Leif:Oh, Tim Robbins.
Andy:Yeah.
Leif:Yeah. So, but, yeah. Never seen it.
Steve:Nope.
Andy:We're not ready to watch. We're ready to wear.
Leif:The gossip girl wiki episode description
Leif:reads, jenny befriends a young model, Agnes,
Leif:who encourages Jenny to not only explore her wild side
Leif:but also confront her boss, Eleanor Waldorf,
Leif:who is attempting to borrow Jenny's
Leif:designs. Serena meets an artist, Aaron
Leif:Rose, and realizes they have instant chemistry.
Leif:Blair attempts to seduce Chuck, but it
Leif:proves tougher than she ever imagined.
Leif:Pretty accurate.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Unfortunately, in the first season, we had these, we were
Leif:doing television without pity recast, but they kind
Leif:of stopped doing those. unfortunately, they were much funnier.
Andy:Oh, okay. Yeah, this one's
Andy:very dry, but also.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah. It's very factual. It's like. Yes. That is a
Steve:very good recap.
Andy:Okay. That's the show then.
Steve:Yeah. Thank you, everybody.
Leif:Thanks for sending it.
Steve:Yeah. Andy, everybody.
Leif:Yes. The episode was written by
Leif:Amanda Lasher. This is her first of 13
Leif:episodes, so. First time we had a newbie in a little while here.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:She looks like she kind of bounces around from writers room to writers
Leif:room because she, has, like, an episode or two and then, like, 13
Leif:episodes as a producer. So she's,
Leif:like, clearly in the writer's room.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Yeah. And then it was directed by
Leif:Von D. Curtis hall, who I had
Leif:no idea who this was, but if you bring up a picture, he's actually
Leif:an actor. He's a character actor, and I'm sure
Leif:you've seen him in something. The, thing that I recognized most
Leif:from was, the Romeo Juliet, the wise bourbon. He
Leif:was Captain Prince.
Andy:He's a dare novel, too. He's like Ben Yurick.
Leif:And, yeah, he's been in a million things.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:and he's apparently he's just directed, like, maybe
Leif:1520 episodes of tv here and there. I, think
Leif:the most one was Firefly.
Leif:He directed the episode. R misses Reynolds.
Steve:Oh, love that episode, too.
Andy:Yeah, that's,
Andy:good for Vondi.
Steve:Yeah. Right.
Leif:So we move into act one.
Leif:Every girl fantasizes about finding her prince
Leif:charming, but it's that prince that refuses to come.
Leif:A girl has to take matters into her own
Leif:hands. The episode opens with Toronto
Leif:catching Blair walking the dog. In
Leif:Dawson's Creek's parlance.
Andy:Yes, I caught that.
Steve:Ok, so I didn't get to the reference, but
Steve:that makes sense.
Leif:Yeah, it's the pilot episode.
Steve:I read that to Robin and she said, I've never heard it
Steve:referred to that before.
Leif:That's how they got. They got around the sensors that way. Oh,
Leif:they're the pilot episode.
Steve:Great. Yeah.
Andy:Dawson's was. He was masturbating to Katie Couric,
Andy:which is.
Leif:Brings up so many edible, questions.
Steve:That's so funny.
Andy:Oh, yeah, because. Yeah, his mom is a reporter.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah, yeah, that's right. We watched some of
Steve:that. Also, Dorota. Why so
Steve:judgy?
Leif:Like, you know, she comes from that
Leif:eastern european. Jack's
Leif:Catholic.
Steve:God is always watching. And how do you, like.
Leif:Yeah.
Andy:Knows then. Right?
Steve:Like, she's, like she. Yeah.
Andy:Was, she listening? Like, or. She just has a 6th sense.
Steve:That's what I was wondering. Like, how do you know what's going on
Steve:there? And that's.
Andy:Maybe it's just her daily routine and I. And I
Andy:props the gossip girl for just, like, starting us off and
Andy:there's no judgment whatsoever. Of course.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:Just like gotta do when the prince isn't
Andy:coming.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:In Brooklyn, Dan and Rufus and eat
Leif:waffles. While Jenny appears to be more integral than ever
Leif:at Waldorf designs, she is chewing people out on the
Leif:phone like a seasoned pro. We also see Jenny
Leif:bump into a shirtless Nate who is still staying
Leif:with the humphries.
Steve:I hate the hair. I hate
Steve:it.
Leif:Jenny.
Steve:The Jenny hair? Yeah.
Andy:Yeah. No, Jenny hair is rough.
Leif:Yeah.
Steve:I mean, she.
Leif:From rumors. It's. She, Taylor must have just kind of cut
Leif:her hair herself one day and showed up to set that way.
Steve:It looks like a wig.
Leif:Like, she came in and, like, she had cut it herself and they're
Leif:like, oh, crap. Let's see what we can do with this.
Andy:Yeah, I mean, I feel like her. Yeah, her
Andy:Persona herself, like, was really going through shit the same
Andy:time so they, just made Jenny do this.
Leif:And she never wanted to be an actress. Yeah, she was
Leif:forced into it by her parents.
Andy:You can see this is, like, step one of her pretty reckless look.
Andy:Like, it doesn't.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:Work. It doesn't work at all in this, but, like,
Andy:I eventually does.
Steve:So she grows into it. Yeah, she really does.
Andy:Like, you just need to let the hair grow a little bit and. But, yeah, she has
Andy:the, like, the raccoon makeup comes up.
Steve:Yep.
Andy:This is the first time that comes out.
Steve:Yeah, this much. And.
Steve:And, like, it's a gradual. Just punk a
Steve:fication throughout the entire episode, too, that she
Steve:ends with, like, the leather jacket with studs and shit on
Steve:it, like Brian's, like a butterfly knife
Steve:in her pocket.
Steve:Yes.
Andy:I wish. Yeah, I wanted to. We're gonna talk about
Andy:outfits, but I just want to say Nate Natal
Andy:is pretty tough to beat.
Steve:Just gonna say.
Leif:Oh, yeah.
Andy:A lot of terrible fashion in this episode, even though
Andy:it's a fashion, like, centric one.
Andy:Like, I hate Jenny's dress. I wrote that down right
Andy:before. Like, well, we'll get to it. But anyway.
Andy:Yeah, the one she made, of.
Steve:It's funny because I love that dress.
Andy:Oh, really?
Steve:Yeah, yeah.
Leif:Chuck rolls up to Blair in his limo and continues to
Leif:taunt her about, saying those three little
Leif:words. They keep going with her back and forth.
Steve:Yeah, she caved like that.
Steve:She just. Oh, all right, I don't have to say it. Okay, I'll
Steve:come on into the car.
Steve:It didn't take much to get her to the
Steve:door.
Andy:They both do that, like, the whole episode, you know?
Steve:Yeah, it's great.
Leif:Jenny appears to be bonding with a model played by Will
Leif:Holland of the OC and Arrow fame.
Leif:Jenny is trying to learn from Eleanor in a
Leif:buyers meeting, but Eleanor seems to be blowing her off.
Steve:Agnes instantly seems like bad news. Yeah.
Leif:She seems fun, though.
Steve:She does seem fun.
Andy:She is. yeah, she's like the devil on the shoulder.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:Like, I don't know. Like, there's. There's good in there, too,
Andy:because I like what she's saying a lot of the
Andy:time, you know?
Steve:I like what she's saying. I don't like what she's
Steve:doing, you know? Yeah.
Andy:Especially as we go on, like.
Steve:Yeah, yeah. Like, she's saying
Steve:the great things, but she's not backing those things
Steve:up in the, like, immediately
Steve:and is very dangerous bubble. Yeah.
Andy:Like, dangerous elements into the play.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, exactly.
Andy:But fuck Eleanor. Sorry.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, yeah. Fuck Eleanor in this
Steve:because I've really had especially the
Steve:Jenny Eleanor relationship, I felt was.
Steve:Has been good. Yeah.
Leif:Yeah. But I think. Yeah. I
Leif:mean, it's. It's a tough position for Eleanor. That, too.
Steve:yeah. Yeah.
Leif:all the buyers want are what she has, and.
Leif:Yeah. I mean, but it's still
Leif:fucked up what she's done.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:Year old's work. Like, she's. Yeah, she's in trouble.
Leif:Eleanor, so, yeah, she does some hard manipulation.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Nate steps into the atelier just to deliver
Leif:a binder Jenny left at home. After Nate leaves,
Leif:Jenny's new model friend points out that Nate totally
Leif:wants to do Jenny.
Steve:She's not wrong. Yeah.
Andy:Nope. Yeah. You could see it in his eyes. It's very
Andy:clear.
Steve:You don't dry. You don't go. You don't take
Steve:the binder all the way to someone's work,
Steve:to. Yes. You're like,
Steve:you're into them. Yeah. At that
Steve:age, that's a, year into them.
Andy:I mean, it could be a great friend move, but, like, I
Andy:mean, Dan's doing the same thing, like, he's being a friend just so he can stay
Andy:close.
Steve:Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
Andy:It's not like. Yeah, I.
Andy:Yeah.
Leif:Dan and Serena meet at school and still seem to
Leif:be in a good place. After the conversation last week, they
Leif:are interrupted by Blair, who needs help with her chuck
Leif:problem. Serena convinces Blair to let Dan
Leif:help.
Steve:My note here is, oh, well, if Warren Buffett says
Steve:so.
Leif:Yeah. there was so many good singers in the scene, yet
Leif:you have to help me destroy Chuck bass.
Leif:Just because you two are making the doomed attempt to
Leif:make to be friends doesn't mean I have to play
Leif:the enabler. And you need
Leif:help with getting Chuck to sleep with you. Really?
Steve:And also, just lie and say it.
Steve:College guys have been doing that for years.
Steve:College guys have been getting away with that for years.
Leif:you see Dan kind of disgusted, saying that. He
Leif:does make a disgusted face as he's saying it.
Andy:Yeah, there's a lot of disgust in
Andy:the whole conversation, but I really like Dan and
Andy:Blair back and forth.
Leif:their chemistry is always great.
Steve:Yeah. A good Dan Blair team up works
Steve:for me. I do like their chemistry. I
Steve:do like, and there's.
Steve:There's even a moment later in the show where. Where you
Steve:just really see some, like, really good,
Steve:like, chemistry. Yeah.
Leif:Next up, we get Eleanor manipulating Jenny into
Leif:offering to give Eleanor another one of Jenny's
Leif:designs. Sounds like Jenny has an all nighter ahead
Leif:of her.
Steve:Fuck Eleanor with this.
Leif:This is really.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah.
Leif:She was, just clearly manipulating.
Andy:Yeah, well, it's just, like, I don't know.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:I can't help but, you know, the power dynamic of that.
Andy:And, like, she's literally a 15 year old intern. She's
Andy:probably not getting. Not getting paid, and she's.
Andy:By doing that, she will be able to steal her designs.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:And, like, just, you know, coming out of Hollywood, too, it's just like, oh,
Andy:God, all the alarm, all the different things. What are you
Andy:getting out of this, Jenny? And she's also making these false
Andy:promises, like, oh, the guy from Bloomingdale's who get to be in the
Andy:meeting.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Blair appears to take the advice to heart,
Leif:and let's see if Chuck falls for the bait. I know I
Leif:would.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Because blair acting like that. yeah.
Steve:Yeah. Well, and what's really funny,
Steve:and I actually. Well, I'll wait till. Because I have the note for the next
Steve:scene, but because she kind of continues this
Steve:going on with this
Steve:spotted.
Leif:Upper east side beauty laying down the gauntlet for her
Leif:favorite beast. But careful, princess. It's going
Leif:to take more than a little leg to get this prince to ravish
Leif:you. We move into act
Leif:two, and at the bar, Blair is
Leif:flirting hard, and Chuck calls out the
Leif:desperation.
Leif:E. That's rough for blair.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:I like desperation as the name of a, cologne.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, yeah. It smells like
Steve:desperation.
Andy:I feel that way whenever I. If I can smell
Andy:it, like, from far away, it's like. That's what it is. Yeah.
Steve:Yeah. And Dan's advice was
Steve:always be around, always be present.
Steve:It wasn't throw yourself at
Steve:him and, like, grab his. Grab his
Steve:crotch at a restaurant. Like, it was
Steve:like, be there so he's. So
Steve:you're always in his field of vision. Yeah.
Andy:Right. It was kind of teased, but not like.
Leif:But Blair doesn't do half measures.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah.
Andy:So I think Dan's advice was right. Rather than her
Andy:disappearing.
Steve:No. Yeah.
Leif:Serena shows up the gallery looking for Dan and meets
Leif:Rufus new artist Aaron Rose. The pair
Leif:seemed to be getting on quite well. So what do we think of
Leif:Aaron?
Steve:I'm really glad that Serena didn't
Steve:have anything to put in her mouth, because that's
Steve:how she flirts. Cause she flirts by trying
Steve:to sexy lick martini glasses
Steve:or eat strawberries in a way no one ever eats
Steve:strawberries. I was worried she's gonna lick the
Steve:wall.
Andy:That's a great note. That's really funny.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:Cause she's very obvious. Like, she's there flirting
Andy:and in. I. You know, it's hard to be. Not
Andy:hate Aaron Rose just for where it goes. But I just. I
Andy:like him anyway.
Leif:Like, he's kind of flat. He's just
Leif:kind of there. He's Dan light, but, like,
Leif:Serena has a type. Yeah.
Steve:Yeah, absolutely.
Andy:I'm like, dan really does.
Steve:Like, the boring. Dan's, like,
Steve:well, the artist.
Andy:But, like, I'll talk about his arc when we get to the
Andy:gallery because I'm like, what?
Leif:and another part of the gallery, Dan and Vanessa
Leif:are chatting when Dan gets a call from Blaire.
Leif:Dan gives Blair some additional advice on her
Leif:quest to bag a bass.
Leif:yeah. And, of course, that's a
Leif:judgy reaction to him getting the call from
Leif:Blair.
Andy:Yeah, but this is post, you know,
Andy:her getting ruined recently. Right. So.
Leif:But she brought that on herself. She just.
Leif:Out of nowhere.
Steve:Thank you.
Andy:No one's innocent. Like,
Andy:better. Same with Dan, but. And they're. They're all. They're all
Andy:shit. That's the.
Steve:Yeah, she just sucks at, like, I
Steve:just. Because, like, Dan
Steve:with the whole, like, oh, I need to take this. I felt like he was just trying
Steve:to get out of the conversation with Vanessa.
Leif:we talked about this last week, but in the first
Leif:season, Vanessa was
Leif:kind of a good person, but she was
Leif:forced into every situation,
Leif:and that made the audience hate her. But
Leif:starting with that last episode, we felt the writers kind of
Leif:leaned into her being a villain, being that.
Andy:Yeah, I think that's true. I think that makes sense.
Leif:And that is more and more as the show goes on, I think.
Andy:Well, yeah. And it's kind of like they just don't know what to do with
Andy:her. They put her in there, for some. I mean, I guess
Andy:for. I mean, honestly, diversity purposes or
Andy:something. But also, like, okay, let's add more love triangle
Andy:stuff. That doesn't really.
Leif:So Vanessa is a character in the books, but
Leif:she goes to school with everyone else, and
Leif:she's rich, but she's also an outsider. Her
Leif:and Dan are kind of like the edgy
Leif:poets who smoke a million cigarettes a day.
Andy:That sounds like what's his name, too. Aaron Rose would be.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah.
Andy:I was going to say a note about the, like, phone thing. Like, especially with. I
Andy:mean, we're going to talk about. Well, I guess it's the next thing. But, like, people
Andy:are just so on their phones. It's obviously gossip girl. But,
Andy:like, how rude are we? You know, we're with each other. Let's
Andy:see.
Andy:Like, do you really look at the phone?
Steve:I actually have a note for later on that says
Steve:that people in 2008 didn't turn their ringers
Steve:off. Yes. Who has their ringer
Steve:on that much?
Andy:It's a plot device, so they need to. Right, right.
Steve:I also feel, though, in 2008, it was kind of a status
Steve:thing. Like, you had a cell phone and
Steve:you're.
Leif:You had the cool ringtone and you.
Steve:Had the cool ringtone. Yeah.
Andy:And someone wanted to talk to you and it.
Andy:Look.
Steve:Yeah, I'm texting now.
Steve:Yeah, that's true.
Andy:That all checks.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:I had this Zelda theme song as my ring ten. I was
Leif:pretty proud of that one.
Steve:I actually programmed one. I had a phone that
Steve:you could program a ringtone, and I put in one of my original
Steve:songs as my own ringtone.
Steve:That was neat.
Andy:Are you going to share that in the show notes?
Andy:I want to listen to it. I just.
Steve:Well, it's funny. Well, because it was an old
Steve:Nokia phone, so it could only do, like, one. Noted.
Steve:Like,
Steve:but if you actually. My album on Spotify, it's actually
Steve:called Crimson poses. The whole song is on Spotify,
Steve:but it was just the melody for it on a Nokia
Steve:phone.
Andy:Nice. Good plug. Mine was boom, boom, boom by
Andy:the vanguard boys.
Steve:Oh, yes.
Andy:Which is, wild and inappropriate.
Leif:Dan comes to grab Serena to go out to eat and
Leif:clears up with, Aaron that they are not currently
Leif:dating.
Leif:We used to date, but we're not anymore. Totally not dating.
Leif:We're just friends.
Steve:Yep.
Andy:I'm out of this. Fuck these people.
Steve:I didn't have a note for this scene. There are several scenes in
Steve:this episode that I felt just went nowhere.
Steve:In general, I felt this episode didn't
Steve:go anywhere. But we'll
Steve:get to that more later. But that's one of these scenes that
Steve:I just.
Leif:Okay, well, I feel this is another transition
Leif:episode.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:We kind of finished up the arcs we were doing before. Now we're going
Leif:into the next kind of set of arc.
Steve:I think, going into it knowing it was going to be the
Steve:Chuck Blair episode eight
Steve:of the season, I was expecting
Steve:at least a little bit more.
Leif:No, seven's the Chuck Blair episode.
Leif:Oh, the one we just did.
Steve:Well, they had a big episode here too.
Leif:Yeah. Did you, guys catch on to that at all?
Leif:There's episodes in each season that are kind
Leif:of seven. Or Chuck and Blair ten. Or Dan and
Leif:Serena at 18 or Dan and Blair.
Andy:Honestly, no. Well done. I, mean,
Andy:I feel like we identified the patterns, but we didn't
Andy:necessarily do the. Like, the numerology.
Leif:But I love that we talk about
Leif:this a lot. The writers, while the
Leif:writing is not good, they know, like,
Leif:a lot of things about writing.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:And they just drop in, like, all these little nuggets and stuff into the
Leif:show.
Steve:We often say that they'd be great writing teachers
Steve:that, like. And I'm a writing. As a former writing
Steve:teacher, I'm saying, like, I'm not trying
Steve:to knock the knock writing teachers, but they really know
Steve:a lot of the tricks to writing and
Steve:know the tricks to good writing. It's
Steve:the actual dialogue and pen to paper
Steve:stuff that it's like that they get hung up
Steve:on.
Andy:And there is a lot of leaning on the classic
Andy:tropes, but, I mean, that's kind of the tricks of, like, oh, someone's
Andy:listening in on someone, or someone just shows up, or, you
Andy:know, like the classic, ooh, someone read the text message.
Andy:Like, that's half the show.
Steve:Yeah, exactly.
Leif:Now, were you a fan of the.
Andy:I was, yeah.
Leif:Did you read or listen
Leif:to the, oral history that came out last year?
Andy:I did not.
Leif:Oh, yeah. It was the 20th anniversary.
Leif:It's worth getting the audiobook as Josh Schwartz,
Leif:Stephanie Savage, melinda, Clark,
Leif:Rachel Bilson all read their own parts, on
Leif:the audiobook, but it's kind of like the behind the
Leif:scenes, and I'm really hoping we get that for
Leif:Gossip girl in a couple years for their 20th anniversary.
Andy:That that would be great. Yeah.
Leif:Because, like, I have. I have a ton of theories of all the. What's
Leif:going on behind the scenes, and because
Leif:it's well known that Josh Schwartz reads message
Leif:boards, but also, he basically left
Leif:the show by the end of the first season,
Leif:right?
Andy:Yeah. Did he. I mean, was this. Is he on Chuck right
Andy:now, then?
Leif:Yeah, they were. They were at the same time. And he definitely
Leif:focused more on Chuck. because.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Bigger network. Plus, I think he was just kind of bored with teen dramas at that
Leif:point.
Andy:Right. He'd already done the other ones. Yeah, I was a Chuck fan, so
Andy:I. Yeah.
Leif:That's good. Yeah, this is good show. At least for a few
Leif:seasons.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Jenny and Agnes are out grabbing an,
Leif:after work drink, and Agnes, like everyone else, loves
Leif:Jenny's dress. The girls trade outfits, then
Leif:meet up with Agnes's friend Max.
Leif:don't like Max.
Andy:No photos that much.
Steve:It's creepy. Yeah.
Leif:And take a picture of the 15 year old girl
Leif:who's, at a bar.
Steve:The 15 year old girl at a bar drinking, like,
Steve:and what do you like? Didn't you just say, oh, I'm gonna have to
Steve:work on this all night, and now you're at a fucking bar?
Steve:Like, what the fuck is, going on
Steve:in your head?
Leif:She's 15.
Steve:Yeah, but, like, she.
Andy:When you do. When you.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:And this older girls do tell her, come out, Marty.
Steve:I mean, come on.
Andy:This older model, I would have said.
Leif:I totally would.
Andy:Well, and she's the model also, and, like, is
Andy:playing the, like, ooh, I know that. I mean, she knows the
Andy:industry. She has connections. That's what Max is, right?
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:And that's so gross and scary about
Andy:it because it's like, oh, Jenny, this is another
Andy:way, another path, especially since Eleanor right now is.
Andy:Doesn't seem like, the right fit more because she's
Andy:exploiting Jenny. So it's like, I feel
Andy:for Jenny a lot, and, I mean, obviously,
Andy:Jenny doesn't act very well in the show ever, but
Andy:she's a child, and the show is very
Andy:predatory, toward her throughout.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah.
Leif:Jenny's, my favorite character.
Andy:Nice.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Dan and Serena are, trying to have a
Leif:conversation but keep getting interrupted by Blair's
Leif:status update texts.
Steve:This was another one of those,
Steve:you know, they're trying to force Dan and Serena together
Steve:to this conversation. And then the cell
Steve:phone going off, it's just. It didn't seem
Steve:necessary. Like, it just felt forced and
Steve:unnecessary.
Andy:yeah, I agree. I don't think it. I mean, it didn't really build any
Andy:tension other than, like, yeah, Dan's annoyed by it
Andy:or, like, doesn't fit in this, but he's. He's playing the game because
Andy:he wants to be with Serena, so.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:Like, I think we've already hit that note several
Andy:times, but, yeah, I'm with you.
Leif:Chuck comes home, a crumpled paper bag of
Leif:porn in hand to find Blair relaxing in
Leif:Serena's room. Blair almost gets what she
Leif:wants, but Chuck discovers the text conversation with
Leif:Serena and managed to. Once again, cool is
Leif:jets.
Steve:This is the. This is where I had the cell phone note because
Steve:the text messages that keep going off.
Andy:Yeah, yeah.
Leif:The show is really, going hard on the masturbation on this
Leif:episode, though.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah, they are.
Andy:The seduction. Like, lingerie was one of my other,
Andy:like, favorite outfits. is that where we are
Andy:right there?
Steve:Yeah, yeah, of course.
Leif:Chuck's the guy who goes out and buy,
Leif:gets poured and gets it in a big paper
Leif:bag that looks super chic.
Leif:This is 2008, and he had the Internet.
Andy:Yeah, no, it was very weird, but it seems like
Andy:something he would do.
Steve:I like that. Right? The guy that really, like,
Steve:idolizes old school, like, yeah. You
Steve:know, playboys and
Steve:gangsters.
Andy:Yeah, maybe that was, like, a vintage issue. Like,
Andy:he went shopping and, like, tried to really, like he
Andy:was.
Leif:Eight millimeter film.
Steve:Yeah, I'd like the 1972
Steve:December shootdev.
Leif:Right.
Leif:He would find, JFK and Marilyn Monroe's sex
Leif:tape. Yeah, buddy, go meet her fill.
Andy:Oh, man, that's a worthwhile
Andy:search.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:we get a photo montage of Jenny with
Leif:Agnes wearing Jenny's dress. Then she. The
Leif:scene cuts to them sitting at the bar. Agnes
Leif:friend Max gets super creepy super quick.
Leif:And Jenny bails for the party, but forgets to get her dressed
Leif:before Agnes leaves.
Steve:Yeah, so fucking creepy.
Leif:Good for Jenny for getting out of that situation.
Steve:Yes.
Leif:Shame she didn't. Wasn't a little quicker with a
Leif:dress?
Steve:Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Andy:She. I mean, she shouldn't have swapped dresses so
Andy:quickly. It's the same thing, same problem with
Andy:Eleanor.
Leif:That means they got, like, naked in a bar bathroom.
Leif:Yeah, it's kind of.
Andy:That was not a good bathroom, I imagine.
Andy:but of course, they all fit the same. Everyone's
Andy:like, oh, of course.
Steve:Yeah. Oh, yeah.
Andy:Although I guess they have similar builds. They're both just, like, tall,
Andy:skinny.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:I don't know.
Leif:Sorry, Jay, but in the real world, you can't take a
Leif:note to the principal when the drunken model eats your homework.
Leif:The next morning, Agnes delivers the dress to a
Leif:frustrated Jenny. Agnes advises her not
Leif:to just hand it over her work to Eleanor.
Leif:Good advice, I think.
Steve:Yeah, yeah. And that line
Steve:that, she's like. Or they're gonna say that your stuff looks like
Steve:Eleanor's. You know, like.
Andy:Yeah, yeah, no, exactly. Like, once
Andy:Eleanor takes credit for that one, and that's her
Andy:style, you're kind of screwed. It, needs
Andy:to be a collab. It needs to be like,
Andy:yeah, no, she is being taken advantage of, and I think there's just a
Andy:way to thread the needle. Maybe that's a pun
Andy:intended, but, I don't know, I just like. Yeah,
Andy:I like what Agnes is saying, but she's also
Andy:just why we trust in this lady who was
Andy:such an asshole to you. She's so fake, just like everyone.
Steve:Yeah, yeah. And
Steve:she's coming across as fake and also like,
Steve:aren't you sabotaging your own career by,
Steve:like, telling that you're modeling
Steve:for the Waldorf company and now you're telling one of
Steve:their, like, interns? No, fuck
Steve:this place. You should be doing your own thing.
Steve:Like, that doesn't seem like a good career move.
Steve:Cause Eleanor is pretty picky about who she works with.
Leif:Well, she is, like, 17, so she's on her way out at this.
Steve:Point, she's already retirement age
Steve:fair.
Andy:I mean, or it, like, shows. I mean, how it shows to
Andy:Jenny is like, oh, my God, this person's legit. And, like, sees something
Andy:in me. And. But also, if we trust Agnes is, like,
Andy:knowing anything about this world, it shows really
Andy:poorly on Eleanor. Right. That she actually sees Jenny as a better
Andy:investment for her, you know? Like,
Andy:that's why she's doing it.
Steve:Right.
Andy:Like, this has to help Agnes or Max. Like, because
Andy:it's, like some cult thing or, you know, whatever.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:but, yeah, it is wild. Like, I was thinking
Andy:about that, too. Like, what other jobs is she doing? As she knows all these
Andy:people at nylon or whatever?
Steve:Yeah, yeah, I think, yeah.
Leif:they gave that, like, a lot of the casted interviews with that magazine,
Leif:so I think they're kind of hooked in with the show.
Andy:Yeah.
Leif:Serena brings Blair to Brooklyn for more advice from
Leif:Dan, but really, she was just using as excuse to
Leif:see Aaron again.
Steve:No notes.
Leif:Yeah, yeah.
Andy:Do we like. Well, I mean, I guess I was going to talk about the Blair
Andy:outfit, the Joker outfit. Do we like the Joker
Andy:outfit?
Steve:Yeah, I was thrown by that. Yeah.
Andy:Yeah. They would have worked separately. Like, they were both a
Andy:good top, a good bottom, but, like, together, it's just like.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, very. Yeah. It was kind of jarring
Steve:and, Yeah. And I felt
Steve:like it was trying to almost do a mix of
Steve:her style and Chuck style because Chuck is so
Steve:purple. Right. So much of the time,
Steve:and it didn't. It didn't work.
Andy:Oh, maybe that was sort of what it was. It was like this half and half
Andy:this, like. And that's why it didn't work, because she's
Andy:in there, like, on opposite ends of this.
Andy:Not. There's not a blend of it or.
Steve:Yeah, yeah.
Andy:Other. Or, They're losing themselves in this game.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, I did that. I did find
Steve:that the outfit caught my eye enough to be
Steve:symbolic.
Leif:So Aaron and Serena flirt
Leif:for a bit while we see a nice conversation between Dan and
Leif:Blair. We once again see Blair get vulnerable
Leif:with Dan.
Steve:Yeah, I was waiting for her to pull out strawberries
Steve:again and just start sexy eating.
Leif:Serena.
Steve:Serena. Yeah.
Leif:But, yeah, the player getting vulnerable with that
Leif:is a, reference to, 104 with bad, news.
Leif:Blair.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, I always. Yeah, go
Steve:ahead, Andy.
Andy:Oh, no, no, no. I was just going to say that I really. I just
Andy:like, there's something nice about that vulnerability
Andy:that we don't see from Blair ever. But, like, she hates
Andy:Dan, yet she is just sort of very,
Andy:like, honest and real in a way that even.
Leif:Like, I, guess she just doesn't care what he. What he thinks
Leif:at all at this point.
Steve:But I feel like there's this moment in the end of that
Steve:conversation, too, where you see her
Steve:look at him differently, and you can see that she's
Steve:seeing him differently. And I, And again,
Steve:I mean, that's Leighton Meester just fucking
Steve:crushing the acting chops every
Steve:step of the way. But she just really conveyed that,
Steve:like, switch that changed in
Steve:her, the way she looked at him.
Leif:And I actually did write down this quote from Dan.
Leif:You have to decide what's more important to you.
Leif:Keeping your pride in getting nothing or taking a
Leif:risk and maybe. Maybe having
Leif:everything. I thought that was a really good line.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Andy:He's right.
Steve:You know, it's like, think about that sometimes.
Andy:M he should follow his own advice. Yeah.
Steve:Yeah, yeah.
Andy:I loved it. And I also. I just think
Andy:I like what you're saying about Blair having that moment of
Andy:seeing Dan in a new light. I think there's. It's almost like
Andy:a, oh, I can see why Serena maybe likes this guy
Andy:and keeps him around, but it's also like, oh, he might actually be
Andy:useful.
Steve:She sees value in him. Yes.
Andy:That's how players everyone.
Steve:Yeah, that was actually one of the. One of
Steve:the phrasings that I use talking about it with. With
Steve:Robin. Yeah. She sees value in
Steve:him.
Andy:Now, side note,
Andy:I just find it hilarious that. Okay, so Steve is my dad's
Andy:name. Robin is my sister's name. And I just
Andy:was like, oh, and then we also. I'm just
Andy:like, plus we got Aaron and
Andy:Aaron.
Leif:Yeah, yeah, Aaron and Aaron.
Andy:Yeah, exactly. I'm just like, we're all over the
Andy:place. A lot of magic going.
Leif:at the atelier, Eleanor
Leif:shuts Jenny down again. Jenny
Leif:has had enough. Jenny takes her
Leif:metaphorical ball and goes home,
Leif:grabs the dress, and. Yeah, even the
Leif:original one from the two weeks ago.
Steve:Yeah, the green.
Andy:Yeah.
Steve:I really liked this scene. I thought
Steve:that it was, first of all, these are two,
Steve:again, really powerhouse actors. Two of the better
Steve:actors on the show go. And I really
Steve:love when they have scenes together, and this is their
Steve:first real con, a, big conflict.
Steve:Yeah. And I. And where both
Steve:of them make good points and both
Steve:of them are speaking very true
Steve:things, and. And so it just is
Steve:a very honest, real world
Steve:sort of momentous. It was a very
Steve:gripping moment. I felt probably the best scene in the. In
Steve:the episode.
Andy:I was. Yeah, I was just kind of like, I agree.
Andy:They both have good points, but I just, like, Eleanor says it herself. Like,
Andy:why is she giving all this responsibility to a child?
Steve:Like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Andy:You know, it's your fault, Eleanor. That's what. You're the boss,
Andy:and you're.
Steve:Yeah, it does come down to Eleanor needed to be the
Steve:grown up all along, but she was taking advantage of this,
Steve:kidde, and. And I don't know that
Steve:Eleanor really fully would have put it in those
Steve:words until that moment. And I think that Eleanor kind of
Steve:realized what she was doing in that moment, too,
Steve:but wasn't going to stop doing it.
Andy:Yeah, I hope so. I don't know if I. If I.
Andy:If she's learned that lesson yet. Maybe, like, once she's.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:Out the door, you're like, oh, what have I done? I did go a
Andy:little better. Yeah.
Steve:Once she loses the
Steve:designer, that's. That's going to keep her company
Steve:afloat, you know? Like.
Andy:Exactly.
Leif:Yeah. The only one selling stuff.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Blair once again decides to take Dan's advice
Leif:as she texts Chuck, implying she will tell him she
Leif:loves him tonight. yeah, let's say she's
Leif:gonna take the advice, see what happens.
Andy:Maybe. We'll see. But Chuck's purple,
Andy:vast, and pleated pants. Great outfit.
Leif:Nice.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Leif:We move into act three at the gallery,
Leif:Dan and Rufus are admiring a successful
Leif:opening. Blair and Serena shows up, and for
Leif:a second, Rufus thinks there's something going on with
Leif:Dan.
Steve:Blair, he refers to her as
Steve:that girl. That girl has been here twice
Steve:in one day.
Leif:Of course. Yeah.
Andy:That's actually.
Leif:Of course that means we're having sex.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Way to go, Rufus.
Steve:Yep.
Andy:Fair. I think that's a fair assumption, you know, based on the
Andy:show and these people. But also, I like, that's. It's funny that that's
Andy:how, like, Blair would talk about Rufus like, that man.
Andy:We're like, it's the same.
Leif:Yeah.
Steve:Yeah. Although she'd
Steve:do it. She would be more like that washed up
Steve:80, that washed up rock star from the nineties.
Leif:Blair and Serena informed Dan that Blair is going
Leif:to tell Chuck her feelings at the opening tonight. However,
Leif:she is nervous and in need of a drink.
Leif:Oh, I'll go get that for you.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:She doesn't really ask, but she's like. She asked
Leif:without asking.
Steve:Yeah. She tells him that. Yeah, it was.
Steve:I loved it.
Leif:Dan goes to fetch her drink. When he bumps into
Leif:Vanessa. V. Informs Dan about Chuck and Blair's
Leif:rule intention scheme from last episode.
Steve:Yeah. How dare they get mad at me. For
Steve:blackmail. How dare Blair get bad at
Steve:back at me for blackmailing her?
Steve:Like, Vanessa, that whole thing happened
Steve:because you went to Blair and blackmailed her.
Steve:If you never did that, they
Steve:never scheme against you,
Steve:as Chuck likes to.
Leif:Say about that I don't think about you.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Aaron asks Serena out. Serena, after a
Leif:glance towards Dan, tells Aaron she isn't dating
Leif:right now. He gives her a mysterious riddle and
Leif:walks away.
Andy:Cecil the caterpillar.
Steve:Yeah. Cecil the caterpillar.
Leif:What is going on here?
Steve:But this is where when he talks about his dog
Steve:mookie, and he says, my
Steve:mookie? My dog mookie. My mom or my
Steve:grandma named him. He. She's a big Mets fan.
Steve:My wife trying to flirt with me goes,
Steve:mookie bets. And I'm like, no, it's like,
Steve:it's. I appreciate the attempt, but it's
Steve:actually Mookie Wilson from the Mets. the Mets
Steve:outfielder from. From the.
Steve:Throughout the eighties, and then he was a first
Steve:base coach throughout, like, the. The late
Steve:nineties, early two thousands.
Steve:So Mookie Wilson. Not that mo.
Steve:Or. And it's also not Mookie Blaylock. My wife was like, there's
Steve:seriously more than one person named Mookie? Like,
Steve:there's at least three athletes named Mookie.
Leif:Yeah.
Steve:and the Pearl Jam's original name
Steve:was Mookie Blaylock because they are big. Mookie
Steve:Blaylock fans.
Leif:Did not know that.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:That's a fun tidbit.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:Can we talk a little bit about Aaron Rose's art here?
Leif:Sure.
Steve:Oh, go for it.
Andy:This is a hit show. This is a hit gallery opening. Like, Rufus
Andy:says. Like, oh, this makes all my other ones look like shit, basically.
Steve:Like, yeah, I.
Andy:It's very impressive. Like, this guy's, like, 20, you know,
Andy:whatever it is. But I'm looking at it, and it's like, from
Andy:what I could understand, it was a glowing orb in the middle that
Andy:kind of went blue and red or changed colors, and then
Andy:there's just a bunch of words on the wall, which
Andy:they were never clear enough to read or never
Andy:interesting enough to remember, you know, like.
Andy:But it was like a text. And as far as I could tell,
Andy:that was the art exhibit. Like, was
Andy:it like, what the fuck is
Andy:this?
Leif:Well, it's like, whenever you get a glimpse of
Leif:Dan's writing.
Andy:Yeah.
Leif:We just have to accept that it's brilliant.
Steve:And Jenny's designs.
Andy:That's true. I mean, you. Yeah. Sorry. I did not
Andy:like Jenny's designs. But you're all about it. So I'm glad.
Steve:I mean, this. Ah, not all of her designs.
Steve:And we've gone back and forth on them, too. Like. Like,
Steve:the green dress that she still takes at the end.
Steve:I hate it. But. But I think you really like
Steve:that one, right?
Leif:I mean, it's a couture dress, so it's, like,
Leif:it's not something you actually.
Steve:Wear, which means custom.
Leif:That's not something you actually wear.
Andy:Yeah, but I feel like those are, like,
Andy:there is utility. There is artistry in the m making of those.
Andy:This. Yeah. I don't know. There was something with the microphones at the
Andy:beginning where, like.
Leif:Yeah.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Cause, like, he's. Like, he wants to listen to what everyone's saying about his
Leif:art.
Steve:Yeah, but we're never really creepy.
Andy:Yeah, well, it's creepy, so, like, yeah,
Andy:potentially could be interesting if, like, the whole thing is just
Andy:everyone judging his art. Like, that's actually kind of funny
Andy:and really brave, like, wants
Andy:that, and it's just this, like, weird
Andy:bouncing around of people talking, but it's not that at all,
Andy:so I don't, like, that. Never comes back. So. m but,
Andy:yeah, I know. It's just sort of, like, ooh, it's abstract, and look at how
Andy:cool he is.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah, he's got a big ball. Yeah, he's
Steve:got,
Steve:you mentioned him being, like, 20 or something, but
Steve:they. They say that he went. He
Steve:went to Rhode Island.
Steve:Rhode island school of design with
Steve:Max. Right?
Andy:Yes.
Steve:So they. They both
Steve:went to that school, implying that they
Steve:graduated, which would imply
Steve:closer to, like,
Steve:2221-2223
Steve:a certain thing for them.
Andy:M. It would be, an artist thing to, like, you know,
Andy:drop out and start a, you know, like, do his work.
Leif:Right. It is an art school.
Andy:Well, but, like, maybe he's just like, oh, I'm better than
Andy:risti.
Leif:Well, that's where my big point is.
Steve:Let's just put a pin on that for the. For the
Steve:caterpillar thing that we get to later on.
Andy:Yes. I see what you're dropping.
Steve:Yes. Yeah.
Leif:Serena gives Blair some last minute encouragement.
Leif:However, before Blair can go meet Chuck on the roof, Dan
Leif:stops her to poison the water, intentionally killing
Leif:Blair's confidence.
Steve:You don't want your obituary to say you died in
Steve:Brooklyn.
Leif:Serena knows her so well.
Steve:Yeah, the zingers in this
Steve:episode were on point. Yeah, I will give it
Steve:that. There are a lot of great one liners.
Leif:Jenny shows up at the gallery ready to confess to
Leif:Rufus about losing her job, but Agnes is there to
Leif:intercept her. Agnes paints a picture of
Leif:fame and fortune, luring Jenny back towards
Leif:the dark side.
Andy:Yeah. I mean, I'd probably be screwed by Agnes
Andy:because I'd be like, ooh, nylon wants to run a feature. Like,
Andy:okay, yeah, but, like, I totally
Andy:had Jenny's. Like, I'm 15. I don't have a job. Like, what do you. I
Andy:don't have any money. But, no, Agnes is, She's got
Andy:something, you know? I believes me. That's what I'm. That's what
Andy:if I'm Jenny, I'm like, oh, my God, I just want to be believed in.
Steve:When I was, like, 20, I worked at this
Steve:restaurant with a. With a cook who was like, oh, yeah. And
Steve:I also. He heard that I was working on,
Steve:like, a screenplay or something, for a course in college or
Steve:something, and he, Or that I was interested in
Steve:film or whatever, and he's like, oh, I write for
Steve:this for a magazine. I write for sight
Steve:and sound, the film magazine. I'll show you some stuff.
Steve:I'm like, oh, cool. And so, like, we. He
Steve:told me, like, oh, yes, we're going to go to this party, like, get your
Steve:stuff. Where, do you mind driving? And I'm like, no, not at all.
Steve:He takes me to this bar up in North
Steve:Jersey, and he introduces me to someone
Steve:that he calls will Eisner, saying that he's introducing
Steve:me to will Eisner of Disney fame.
Steve:And this dude that he introduces me to
Steve:is, like, in his, like,
Steve:fifties, long, gray,
Steve:like, rocker hair. This
Steve:dude, like, was by no means
Steve:will Eisner or any kind of. I
Steve:mean, it turns out that I was there to drive this guy so he
Steve:could buy his coke.
Steve:So when I see Agnes, I
Steve:just keep thinking, like, where's
Steve:the coke?
Andy:100%. Agnes. That is like, you
Andy:had an agnes in your life. I'm sorry.
Steve:I really did.
Leif:Yeah.
Andy:And that was, like, Max that he.
Steve:She.
Andy:The guy introduced you to.
Steve:Yeah, right. Yeah.
Steve:Unreal. Yeah, exactly.
Leif:Nate is.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Nate is talking to Jenny as she is getting ready to
Leif:leave with Max and Agnese. Nate is rightfully
Leif:concerned about a much older max, the good guy.
Leif:Nate, looking out.
Steve:Yeah, Nate is doing a lot of. Oh,
Steve:go ahead, please.
Andy:No, no, you go for it. I interrupted.
Steve:Go. No, I was just going to say he does a lot of big
Steve:brother stuff in this. Yeah, like. Like, he's
Steve:very big brotherly. And we know that,
Steve:you know, we know how it turns out, and we know how it
Steve:started, like, coming out of the bathroom and just their
Steve:history together. But there is a lot of, like, big
Steve:bro stuff. I feel.
Leif:Yeah. I think that the bad. The coming out of the bats is kind
Leif:of supposed to imply that they've been in close
Leif:quarters for, like, a week or so now.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Like, things have been building up.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, I got that.
Andy:Well, and. Yeah. But it all clearly was like, ooh, we're
Andy:awkward. And there's some. You know, I like this
Andy:moment they both had.
Leif:we are not related, but we are in a situation
Leif:where related people are normally.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:Much better. Yeah.
Steve:And we're. And we're both very beautiful.
Steve:Yes.
Andy:Yeah. I would say that, like, yeah, he's being very big brothery. But I
Andy:also know why that comes off as annoying and why it does
Andy:not work, you know, because he is like. And
Andy:again, we also know his intentions kind of too. So,
Andy:like, I mean, sort of like, we find.
Leif:I don't think. I don't think they really even
Leif:realizes that he has feelings yet. he has them, but I don't think
Leif:he realizes.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah.
Leif:Until she kisses them. I don't.
Andy:Nice, farah.
Leif:Yeah, they should. Not very. He can't pick up his own
Leif:feelings, let alone other people.
Steve:Yeah. I guess when he says to her, when she
Steve:asks. Well, we'll get to that.
Andy:Yeah, I think you're right. Nate can only do one thing at
Andy:once. Or, like, can carry one, like, idea, one
Andy:training thought.
Steve:Yeah, he's
Steve:not.
Andy:That's what's happening. Like, this is bad.
Steve:He's not that deep.
Leif:Yeah.
Andy:No, also, at least this is in the right
Andy:place. Here,
Leif:On the roof, we find Dan clearly got into Blair's
Leif:head, who is now hesitant to confess her feelings to
Leif:chuck. You can cut the tension with a knife.
Leif:Still, neither Chuck nor Blair are, ready to be the first
Leif:one to say those three little words.
Andy:So frustrating.
Steve:Yeah. Ed Westwick,
Steve:keep the Batman voice. Cause you start.
Steve:Your britain starts showing through when you start
Steve:losing the bat. When he starts, like, going into
Steve:regular talking or tries to yell, it just. He
Steve:starts slipping right back into it. Yeah,
Steve:you can start hearing those little bits. It
Steve:is.
Andy:Yeah. I wish they'd stop playing games, but that's the
Andy:show.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Steve:Sorry. We've got at least three more seasons.
Steve:Four more. See? Four and a half.
Leif:Yeah. Nate asks Aaron about Max, who basically
Leif:confirms he's a scumbag. Also interesting that Aaron doesn't
Leif:really consider that a big deal. As long as Max isn't hurting someone he
Leif:cares about. But I doubt the show has the software
Leif:awareness. Back in 2008.
Steve:Yes.
Andy:You could go no for it.
Steve:No, I just have that if. If he's not a
Steve:good guy when he's dating your sister, he's not a good guy.
Leif:Yeah.
Andy:That was literally my note. I just. Yeah, you
Andy:just, like, fuck you, Aaron, for whatever that is.
Andy:Like, that says a lot about this guy, guys.
Leif:Yeah.
Andy:Yeah. And that's totally. I. You know, I've been around those
Andy:guys. I've been in those groups, too, where it's just like, we have,
Andy:like, there's this, like, tunnel vision
Andy:thing, and to be like, oh, right. He's my
Andy:bro. Like, he's my.
Steve:He supports looking out for him. Yeah.
Steve:Ah, yeah. And the bro code and all that
Steve:and all that shit. And it's like, you know, yeah, sure, he
Steve:leaves a wake of women with PTSD, but,
Steve:like, he's. Other than that, he's a good guy.
Leif:He watched. He picked up the tag last
Leif:week.
Andy:Drink with if you're a dude. But everyone else, like,
Andy:that's it. Yeah, no, it's a. Alarm bells in that
Andy:scene, especially. Especially as we go. I was like, oh,
Andy:no.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:yeah.
Leif:Blair tells Serena that her rendezvous with Chuck was
Leif:a complete failure and leaves the party.
Leif:Dan admits to Serena that he had a part in Chuck and Blair's
Leif:blow up, which infuriates Serena.
Steve:His attitude.
Steve:Yeah, his attitude of, like, entitlement, of,
Steve:like, oh, yeah. I just did this thing to teach them a lesson.
Leif:I mean, that's something they would do, too, though. So,
Leif:yeah, I get both sides of this. Like,
Leif:it's Blair. I mean, Serena, like, completely
Leif:brushes off the fact that they screw with. With Vanessa.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:Right. And she doesn't know, like, what you're saying, the backstory of that,
Andy:you know, like. Or that maybe Vanessa had some part in it, but,
Andy:yeah, there is this sort of sense of, like, we can fuck up
Andy:your shit, but you can't because you're poor.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:Like, that, that's kind of what it is. You're Dan. You don't get
Andy:to do this. And I. But I also. Yeah, like, Dan,
Andy:of course, has the holier than thou. Like, I got to do it. But I
Andy:I I also think Serena shouldn't be judgy because, like, why is she
Andy:involving him in the first place?
Leif:Like, yeah.
Steve:Yeah. I think that my issue with Dan was the way
Steve:he went to Serena with just like, oh, yeah, I did this
Steve:thing. Like, yeah, obviously that's what I was doing and
Steve:not. Why would you be. Why would you say anything about it?
Steve:Like. Like, just this casual, like, well,
Steve:m. Yeah, of course that I was like, proud of himself.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. A little proud of himself.
Steve:Like, you're bragging to the wrong person about this.
Steve:Like, go tell Vanessa, that you fucked them over,
Steve:but don't tell Serena.
Andy:Yep.
Leif:At Max's, the party appears to be just a
Leif:trio, and in an episode, an
Leif:in episode needle drop prompts Agnes to get up and
Leif:start dancing.
Steve:Yeah. How soon is now? Yeah.
Leif:Which, of course, is the charm theme song.
Steve:Yeah, of course. This is a cover version of it. Yeah. and
Steve:charmed was. The charmed cover is a cover, too. It's the love
Steve:spit love cover. Yeah. I did forget who this one was.
Steve:It was an acronym. I don't remember.
Steve:I didn't look it up. Yeah, yeah. I only
Steve:looked it up because I recognized the song
Steve:and couldn't place it
Steve:over and over. I think it was used in Buffy at one point,
Steve:too. I feel like I remember a scene with Warner Brothers.
Leif:Own the rights.
Steve:Yeah, it may be. Yeah, that would make sense.
Andy:That same week, they did it in every show.
Andy:Is there any significance to that song, then, for the mood of this
Andy:scene? Because the mood is dire. This
Andy:is very uncomfortable.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:I mean, it's kind of like a bad girl
Leif:type song. I think it's also used in the
Leif:wedding singer for, his girlfriend there,
Leif:the one who weaves him. And. Yes.
Leif:Like, I think, in what's the craft? I think it's also in
Leif:that maybe.
Steve:Yes.
Leif:I think that it's kind of like. It has,
Leif:throughout media, it's kind of taken on, like, a bad girl tone
Leif:to it.
Steve:Yeah. And in this scene in
Steve:particular, first of all, I
Steve:hate on shows whenever they have the. Oh,
Steve:I love this song. Let's dance. Because,
Steve:like, I always would complain about it at the bronze
Steve:when I was watching Buffy stuff. Cause it's like you don't even know
Steve:this fucking song. You've never heard this song.
Steve:You don't even know there's a song playing because you're on a set
Steve:somewhere. But just really irked me.
Steve:Like, you don't even know what song this is. But this song, it's
Steve:like, oh, someone can actually like that one.
Steve:Someone might actually recognize it. So I had that same,
Steve:like, oh, I hate that trope. But
Steve:they might actually like it.
Leif:Dan chases down a brooding Chuck to
Leif:attempt to rectify sabotaging Blair
Leif:earlier. This was on the stairs there.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah. This was nice of Dan to do.
Leif:I heard you. I chose to ignore you.
Leif:Good job. My dad realizing he fucked up.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:Yeah. And gave Chuck the opportunity to fix
Andy:it.
Steve:M. Yeah. And what's really funny is that, like,
Steve:Chuck's role in the whole Vanessa thing, too,
Steve:Chuck was, like, brought into it, right?
Leif:Like,
Steve:This still wasn't right. Yeah.
Andy:Although why does Dan have so much power over Chuck
Andy:and Blair's relationship in this episode? Just
Andy:realizing, like, all he has, like, he says
Andy:one thing and now, like, blair's hanging on every word.
Steve:I.
Andy:And then, like, he's also saying this thing to
Andy:Chuck, which may or may not change his mind about anything, but it's just
Andy:like, wow. People just believe everybody in this show, even
Andy:though we learn over and over. That's a bad idea.
Leif:Yeah. I mean, why? But I feel like Dan has shown
Leif:in the past the ability to kind of manipulate people pretty
Leif:well.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:Oh, yeah.
Steve:I also feel Dan is seen
Steve:as the honest one. Yeah. and I
Steve:think that it is the whole, like, oh,
Steve:no. Scheming is rich people's
Steve:game. Scheming is a rich person's game. So you
Steve:can't be scheming. You're just a poor kid who needs to
Steve:tell the truth or else you'll be poorer.
Andy:Yes, exactly. Or, like, what can this guy
Andy:do? I'm safe.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah.
Leif:Back at Max's, Jenny and Agnes are
Leif:dancing. Agnes uses a little peer pressure to get
Leif:Jenny to start stripping your clothes. Nate
Leif:shows up before things can get too out of hand.
Andy:Thank God.
Steve:Yeah. What the fuck?
Steve:And he's taking pictures. You're at least,
Steve:So if this guy is a graduate of
Steve:RISD, then if he's a student.
Leif:He'S at least 1920.
Steve:Yeah, he's as.
Leif:She is 1615 or 16.
Steve:She says 15 earlier in the episode.
Steve:So. So this guy is, like,
Steve:I'm assuming, like, 2022 taking pictures
Steve:of his 15 year old. Like, yeah,
Steve:that's fucking disgusting. That's like.
Leif:Yeah, and, yeah, not. Not good that Agnes
Leif:is, like, pushing her into it as well.
Steve:Yeah, yeah. Come on. Take off your clothes in front of this
Steve:dude with me.
Andy:Yeah, there's definitely, like, sort of Colt Manson. Like,
Andy:weird. Sort of like, I mean, because she
Andy:kisses him in front of her and, like, is sort of like.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Like, yeah, she's definitely trying, like,
Leif:some kind of threesome situation.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Andy:And she. And as the woman or as the person that's supposed to
Andy:be, like, her ally in the situation is totally.
Steve:Yeah. right.
Leif:And I think we do find out in the next episode
Leif:that Agnes is not much older than Jenny. She's
Leif:only, like, 16 or 17.
Andy:She might even say that she's 17. In this episode, too. Or,
Andy:like, maybe that's just in my head. I remembered that. I don't know.
Steve:I have.
Andy:Yeah. But, like, yeah, no, she isn't. I mean, you could
Andy:look. Yeah.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:All bad news. Thank God for Nate's one track mind
Andy:here. Yes.
Steve:I'm a college photographer, and I hang out with high school
Steve:girls. Like, yeah,
Steve:that.
Leif:Not.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:And Aaron Rose.
Steve:And Aaron Rose. But not Aaron Rose's
Steve:little sister because he kept her away.
Leif:Although, I mean, Agnes is that high school girl
Leif:that was always dating a
Leif:college guy. There. There were.
Steve:There were. I know.
Leif:The most popular girl, you know? Like, the really popular, hot girl
Leif:was always at a college boyfriend.
Steve:I, know this.
Andy:This show is just all those people, right?
Leif:Like, that's exactly.
Andy:Every girl is that.
Leif:It's the highest 1%.
Steve:Well, yeah, it's like if they're not fucking each other, they're fucking a
Steve:30 year old.
Andy:And most of them are 30, you know?
Steve:Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
Steve:yeah.
Leif:What have we here? Jenny Humphrey, caught in
Leif:her knickers by Nate, her knight in shining
Leif:Armani.
Steve:I love that line. That was so good line.
Leif:Yeah. We move into the epilogue.
Leif:Good guy Nate isn't going to force Jenny to leave, but
Leif:he isn't going to leave without her either. That, was a very
Leif:good move. He's not. Yeah, he's not gonna be. The guy just, like, picks her up and,
Leif:like, drags her out of there. Cause that's just not a good look either.
Steve:I'll wait.
Leif:Yeah, I'll just sit down and wait.
Steve:Yep.
Leif:Yeah.
Andy:That was his best tactic, like, when he was trying too hard to be, like, hey,
Andy:warning him, like. Like, kind of like a wet blanket that she would
Andy:ignore. Cause.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:Yeah, classic. Like, yeah, if you're the older brother, and even if
Andy:you're right, I can't admit that you're right. You know? Like, yeah,
Andy:so.
Steve:And this is where I. And, this is one of those places
Steve:where Nate shines, you know, where Nate is going to be the
Steve:good guy and make the decision, the good decision
Steve:to help the person that needs help. Like,
Steve:I really. Yeah, I think he really did a good
Steve:job.
Leif:Dan chases down Serena to apologize for
Leif:sabotaging Blair. They begin to talk about
Leif:Aaron. Dan gives his blessing. Mid
Leif:conversation, Serena figures out the riddle
Leif:and that she went to summer camp with Aaron and
Leif:Europe because, of course, they went to the
Leif:summer camp in Switzerland.
Andy:Yeah.
Steve:Right. And I'm going to go back to how old
Steve:is this guy? And why are they in summer camp
Steve:together getting
Steve:married? If they're four
Steve:years apart.
Leif:That's just how they do it in Europe.
Andy:I mean, it's like pulling, like, making it
Andy:work. But I mean, I think summer camps can have, like, wide ranges, but it's
Andy:still weird.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:He's like. I mean, I hope he wasn't, like, a counselor or, you know,
Andy:but, like, it could have been.
Leif:Serena. She probably was.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:Yeah. But it might have been like a, you know, a
Andy:ten and six or something. I don't know. Like, is she 17
Andy:here? Is that how old Serena is?
Leif:She's here? Or. Actually, I think she. I think she might
Leif:be, She might actually be 18 because she has a early
Leif:birthday.
Steve:Gotcha.
Leif:they are. Yeah, they are seniors this year.
Andy:But, I mean, Serena. Yeah. Probably was
Andy:also. I mean, she is the classic girl again,
Andy:that is talking to the oldest people.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:For. And that's not. There's something scary about that
Andy:for sure. But that's.
Steve:Yeah. This.
Andy:Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Andy:But, hey, fake married.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Serena sees what I think is supposed to be Aaron
Leif:riding off with another woman. I say supposed to because
Leif:it's clearly a stunt actor driving off on the
Leif:moped. Why did they show his face?
Leif:Why did they do a back shot?
Andy:Yeah, that was hilarious. I.
Andy:Yeah.
Steve:That'S whole scene.
Andy:Because it was just. It shows who Aaron really is. I
Andy:think, too. Like, he's sent this, but he's just this asshole on
Andy:a motorcycle with a babe, which.
Steve:Yeah, yeah, the suggested people that are.
Andy:On motorcycles are assholes. But just, like, I think that's the teeth.
Andy:That's the trope. Kind of more like there's
Andy:just. Yeah, he just has all these bad bugs.
Steve:now I'm going to ask what I always ask when
Steve:someone like Aaron comes in is. Are we seeing
Steve:more of Aaron?
Leif:Yes.
Steve:Okay. I was. I figured.
Steve:Unfortunately, that's not
Steve:that. Yeah. I mean, I.
Steve:Yeah. and I feel like every time they bring someone in
Steve:for a romantic plot line, it's just
Steve:so bad.
Leif:Unfortunately, I think this is kind of Aaron's high point.
Steve:Oh, Jesus. Yeah.
Andy:No, I think you're right.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:Actually, I was gonna say, like, his stock is up. He will get there. But.
Steve:Yeah, he's
Steve:one of my only ones, actually.
Andy:But I think Aaron, like, he does because
Andy:of him. In a weird way, something good comes to the
Andy:show. I believe, that's my tease. So
Andy:Aaron. There is a. There is a. There is, like, a nice thing
Andy:about. Okay, but it's not Aaron.
Leif:I think I know what you're talking about. Yeah.
Andy:Ah.
Leif:Chuck, slinks into Blair's room to explain how they
Leif:can't work as a couple. They decide to wait
Leif:before. Before sharing a chaste
Leif:kiss.
Steve:Yeah. The whole thing was just a tease. Like, this whole
Steve:back and forth for nothing.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:And I don't buy it. Like, I mean, I guess
Andy:I buy it. Right? Like, they can't say the words because if they
Andy:do, he thinks it's the end. Right? Like that. That means they
Andy:become a normal couple. Yeah, but it's really like
Andy:they're afraid of being real. They're afraid of, But, like,
Andy:that's the thing. Blair says it. We can do the things
Andy:that we like together. That is real. So I like it. Just
Andy:this make believe problem that they have.
Andy:But I also understand because they're, you know, 17,
Andy:and, like, fully erect and, you know, all sorts, like,
Andy:we don't know what's going on.
Steve:Yeah, exactly.
Leif:So, yeah, the writers have admitted that
Leif:Chuck was not initially meant to
Leif:be a main character.
Andy:Right.
Leif:He was going to be just like, a side antagonist, and after
Leif:episode 13, he was going to just kind of fade into the background.
Leif:But that. That was when the writers strike hit in 2008,
Leif:and Josh Schwartz was reading the message boards,
Leif:and Chuck was by far the most popular
Leif:character. And so they. But they
Leif:didn't really know what to do with them other than just keep
Leif:bouncing all flare.
Andy:But, like, I mean, I don't know. I mean, you're gonna get into the fandom, but,
Andy:like, that worked for most people.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:yeah, most of my.
Andy:Yeah, yeah, it gets tiresome and. But you
Andy:also. Yeah, it's the tv. It's. When you can see that it's a tv show,
Andy:when it's like, well, of course they can't actually try because
Andy:it.
Leif:Yeah, it did work for most people, but the
Leif:most people that stayed on because the audience
Leif:really started dropping after season two. Two
Leif:episode. Episode three of season two, the Dark Knight was the
Leif:highest rated episode, and then it just steadily dropped from
Leif:there.
Andy:Steve, like, I would be interested if there's
Andy:ever at a point where, like, if you were watching this live
Andy:or, like, without the podcast, if you'd ever be like, all right,
Andy:I think I'm unplugging. You know, like, I,
Steve:Honestly,
Steve:I may have at the end of
Steve:season one, if I
Steve:didn't have the information about the writers strike,
Steve:that when they came back from the writers strike, I, And
Steve:then when they introduced Georgina Sparks, I thought
Steve:the show tanked for the end of
Steve:that. Those last couple episodes, I
Steve:hated them. Except for woman on the verge
Steve:or, there were. There were moments I liked and finally was okay. Yeah, the
Steve:finale was okay. The one. The one where
Steve:Eric's outed is okay, but, like, none of them
Steve:were, like, good anymore. Like, those
Steve:episodes didn't have that charm that I
Steve:felt the first 13 episodes had.
Leif:Jenny is freaking out on Nate and then finally asks
Leif:him why he cares so much. Nate can't
Leif:answer, so Jenny gives him a quick kiss.
Leif:Nate is dumbfounded for a moment before going
Leif:Jenny in for the real thing.
Steve:And I think that's the moment. I think
Steve:Jenny's saying to him, why
Steve:did you do this? Is the moment
Steve:Nate realizes he likes her. I think it
Steve:was just before the kiss that he
Steve:didn't. That he just thought he was doing the right thing.
Steve:And then when she asked why and he didn't have an
Steve:answer, I think that's when he was like, oh, shit,
Steve:I like her. And then she kissed him.
Steve:And then they full on make out.
Leif:Yeah. Right in the middle of the street as usual.
Steve:Right in the middle of the street as usual.
Andy:I feel like there was some butt grab happening.
Steve:There was some butt grab happening. She is
Steve:15 years old, Chase.
Steve:Well, I mean, I know.
Andy:Yeah, they're both in high school. I. Yeah, but I
Andy:would. I think I. You're right. I don't know if I had that
Andy:reading this time or even the last time that, like, he wasn't
Andy:aware of it until that moment. I think Nate.
Leif:I think they were there, but he just wasn't aware of it.
Andy:Yeah, exactly. he's also the kind of guy who's just,
Andy:like, always so naturally charming and flirty and, like,
Andy:always liked that. Like, he doesn't, I don't think, know what
Andy:he's doing. So, like, yeah, I'm watching him
Andy:in the towel in that first scene. To me, I
Andy:know he likes the attention, likes the
Andy:look, and likes what is happening, but.
Andy:Yes. And I think it's that normal thing. It's just like, ooh, this is kind
Andy:of fun and giggly, but it's. Yeah. And then.
Andy:And I like that for. For Nate, I guess. I mean, I
Andy:like it. It's so much better than the alternative. Of what? You
Andy:know, dark. Jenny's other, you
Andy:know.
Steve:Yes. Yeah. Yeah.
Leif:The problem with fairy tales is they set up for a
Leif:disappointment. In real life, the prince goes off with
Leif:the wrong princess, where the spell wears off, and
Leif:two lovers realize they are better off as well,
Leif:whatever they are. But I'll confess to
Leif:every once in a while, a girl craves her fairy tale
Leif:ending. So sleep tight, kitties. It
Leif:seems like little J. Got her happily ever after.
Leif:Xoxo, gossip girl.
Leif:And that is the episode. So, obviously,
Leif:Andy, you know what's coming, but, Steve, what are your
Leif:predictions?
Steve:Well, I I predict that
Steve:Agnes is going to continue to be trouble for
Steve:Jenny. I have a prediction that
Steve:Nate or that Dan is not going
Steve:to take it too well. If
Steve:he finds out about Nate and Jenny, I think he might
Steve:come around because he's. Because he knows that Nate's a
Steve:good guy. But I also know that he's very protective of
Steve:his little sister. But all, But, like, dan, just keep in
Steve:mind, she could do a lot worse than Nate Archibald
Steve:and this chuck and Blair thing. I know
Steve:that this is what the show is now, but, like,
Steve:shoulder, get off the pot.
Leif:So do you think, are they going to get right back into it next week or
Leif:they got to take a break?
Steve:It might cool off a little bit, but I don't know what
Steve:else they, they have going on at this point. You
Steve:know, like, unless we're maybe like Nate and
Steve:Chuck. Reconciliation coming
Steve:up. Yeah.
Leif:This week in fandom, we
Leif:jumped into the wayback machine to look at the television without
Leif:pity forums from back in 2008.
Steve:Hello there, Peabody here.
Andy:And this is the wayback machine for traveling through time.
Steve:And this is my boy Sherman.
Andy:Speak.
Steve:Sherman. Hello. Good boy.
Leif:First, though, everyone. People are getting. Yeah, people
Leif:are getting bored of Chuck and Blair. Not saying I love you.
Steve:It's already. Yeah, it's. It's three
Steve:episodes of it now. Yeah.
Leif:Which we've always said people watch, in network
Leif:tv era, one in three episodes. So hopefully
Leif:they move on now.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah.
Leif:Dan should die a fiery death for messing with
Leif:chair.
Andy:Like, that's really. I mean, I find that funny because it's
Andy:also, like, it kind of those two things are different. Right? Like,
Andy:we're tired of them going back and forth, but then we're
Andy:so pissed when Dan just gets
Andy:involved a little bit.
Leif:I mean, Dan stopped them from getting together like they
Leif:would. They would. Yeah.
Steve:I mean, yeah, maybe.
Andy:I don't buy that. Yeah, I think that's. That's using Dan as a
Andy:scapegoat, which is about to do for
Andy:sure, you know, Dan's greatest scapegoat.
Leif:But I think much, much like, Dawson and Joey,
Leif:the writers were showing us that Chuck and Blair don't work without actually
Leif:intending to.
Andy:Yeah. Ah, I think that's. Yeah, that makes sense to me. I also
Andy:just think there's, like, this idea that Dan can't get involved because
Andy:we're putting chair on the pedestal, it's kind of like how the characters
Andy:treat them, too, but the fans themselves. Oh, Dan can't get involved in
Andy:chair, but chair can do whatever they want to.
Andy:Yeah.
Leif:Oh, yeah.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Serena certainly has a type, as we
Leif:said. So the audience picked up on
Leif:that as well. Dan and Vanessa belong
Leif:together because they're both morally or superior
Leif:hypocrites.
Steve:Yep. Yep. Yeah. That. Yeah.
Andy:Track.
Steve:And I know that. That, like, it's,
Steve:funny. When they first said, like, oh, dan's in the other
Steve:room with Vanessa. When Serena showed up in the beginning of the episode, I was
Steve:like, oh, fuck. Gross. Are they doing? I'm just. Because
Steve:that's the one I know has to happen, and I'm just
Steve:so annoyed by it, and it hasn't even happened
Steve:yet.
Andy:Yeah. That's also fair, I think.
Leif:So the fans, felt that Nate and Jenny were a
Leif:bit sudden, especially from Nate's side, but
Leif:really? Yeah. But I think that's because
Leif:I feel like most of them were girls or women
Leif:speaking. And as a former 15 year old boy, I
Leif:know, like, if I spend more than, you know,
Leif:20 minutes with an attractive girl that is being nice to me,
Leif:I'm probably gonna fall in love with her.
Steve:Yeah. Yep. Especially
Steve:for me back then. Yeah.
Leif:yeah. 1516.
Steve:Yeah. There's also probably a lot of
Steve:people that watched that were watching season
Steve:two that came on late and hadn't
Steve:watched season one to see the
Steve:season one backup, background for
Steve:Jenny.
Andy:Right. And that's what I was going to say. I feel like that stuff was
Andy:laid in there in season one or, like, they had. They have
Andy:had a sort of a nice relationship, whether
Andy:they hadn't defined it until this moment, but, like, they had
Andy:done enough work where it did not feel rushed yet.
Steve:Yeah. they had maybe three. Two or
Steve:three scenes, I think three scenes together.
Steve:That really established
Steve:this episode. All in season
Steve:one, though, positive reactions.
Leif:To the mixing of pairings up, whether
Leif:they be friendly or antagonistic or romantic
Leif:or platonic, they're kind of talking about how the OC
Leif:in season two, to mix it up, they brought in new characters,
Leif:but on Gossip Girl, they. They're kind of just mixing up
Leif:the main characters with different pairings, which they liked.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:And, I mean, Dan and, Blair is, like, the best example, I think, in this
Andy:episode, I really like them.
Steve:I think that's kind of a funny note, though, on an episode where they bring
Steve:in two new characters,
Steve:three if you count Max, but I'm hoping he's at least
Steve:gone.
Leif:Positive reactions to, yeah,
Leif:there was a lot of excitement for Willow Hollande because she was obviously Caitlin
Leif:Cooper on the OC.
Andy:She's, yeah, going up in the world. This is a big move for her.
Leif:So that is it for this week in fandom. Let's
Leif:move into some episode grades.
Leif:Steve went first last time, so it's my turn to go
Leif:first. I think I like this episode a little
Leif:better than you guys. I thought the directing was good. There was good
Leif:music. there's a lot of interesting shots, especially, like, the shot on
Leif:the roof. I like the end with Chuck and Blaire, even
Leif:though the outcome was kind of boring and, like, even
Leif:though the scenes, nothing really happened, I
Leif:think were good setups for stuff that happened
Leif:later. So I'm actually going to give this episode an a minus.
Leif:Woo. How about you, Andy?
Andy:I think I'll go with a B minus. You
Andy:know, like, I think I, Like, I. It's still.
Andy:I think it's still entertaining. We talked about all the quips and the
Andy:zingers, and there's enough fashion to hate
Andy:on or love, you know, like, I think it has a lot of different things
Andy:and we getting. I do like seeing more of Jenny and
Andy:more of Dan and Blair, so. But, yeah, I
Andy:have, you know, the same sort of notes about, like, it definitely is kind of
Andy:a filler transition episode. And I know when I watched, was watching it,
Andy:I did have the thought of why did I choose this one? You know, like,
Andy:I did have that thought. so, like. But I think it's
Andy:because dark Jenny, to me, is such a
Andy:fascinating.
Steve:Yeah, yeah.
Andy:Part of the show and just the lore and
Andy:Taylor Momsen, all of that stuff opens
Andy:up. And I think this is, like, where we're really going there. And it's kind
Andy:of. It's kind of hard to watch, too. It's not always.
Leif:It's tough, but yeah.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Jenny's character really drives the plot more than anyone else in
Leif:the show.
Steve:I think she, and she has such
Steve:a professional wrestler arc
Steve:of, like, the good kid and then the heel
Steve:turn and, like, then, you know,
Steve:has, like, a good heel run and
Steve:then gets shown up and then turns around and
Steve:is the good kid. And now I feel like another heel turn coming
Steve:and, like, you know, that's.
Andy:That's a really good way of putting it.
Steve:I love that.
Andy:And leaf, I like, I really appreciate that you,
Andy:like, jenny is your favorite character because I always got
Andy:the sense that she was sort of the most, like, not, I mean, after
Andy:Vanessa, like, people like to hate on,
Andy:Jenny or.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Like, which is. I've always found that weird.
Andy:I think it's on.
Steve:I also love Jenny. Yeah.
Leif:I think people hate her because she
Leif:does act like an actual teenager.
Andy:A, hundred percent she. Like, she. To me,
Andy:she's the most accurate depiction of what
Andy:if you put a 15 year old in this world? What would
Andy:happen?
Steve:m. Yeah, I have a. I have a 17
Steve:year old daughter, and there are so many
Steve:times on this podcast that I've said that
Steve:I've seen Jenny,
Steve:make a look or react to a situation, and it
Steve:just instantly reminded me of Emily. Like,
Steve:you just one of the ones that really
Steve:stands out the most is showing up to Blair's
Steve:birthday party already with, like, her
Steve:stuffy and her blanket and all these girls are in night
Steve:gowns and sipping martinis, and
Steve:that look of I'm out of my league. Like, it
Steve:just felt so natural. And
Steve:she does that all the time in this show. Like, she just really
Steve:sells the teenager.
Leif:What, are you giving the grade?
Steve:my grade for this is also a b minus. I
Steve:gave it the same thing, mostly because I felt like it
Steve:didn't go anywhere. I did like the
Steve:quips. I did like some of the dialogue. I did like a lot of
Steve:the direction. Direction and acting, but I felt
Steve:that the story just took me
Steve:almost nowhere except for the jenny stuff,
Steve:and. And I don't feel like
Steve:Gossip girl does that a lot. I don't feel like
Steve:even when they have bad episodes, I feel like they
Steve:move the plot forward, and I felt this one was
Steve:just a. Just a.
Steve:Just stuck.
Leif:Yeah. It's setting up the next big arcs.
Leif:Which one is Jenny? That's obviously the biggest one. And then
Leif:also you get the aaron and Serena set up.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:So moving on to stock watch,
Leif:I had going up Jenny because
Leif:she, you know, she lost her job. It
Leif:looked. She's got ton of buzz. Plus she got. She hooked up
Leif:with Nate, so good for her. I had Dan going
Leif:up because he was manipulating everyone and
Leif:he was scheming with the best of them.
Leif:He got exactly what he wanted in this episode, so I gave
Leif:him stock up then also, I had
Leif:Serena going up because she seems to have a new
Leif:relationship, even though it was a little weird at the end,
Leif:but she's definitely interested in him, so.
Leif:And, of course, Nate because he was the king of the
Leif:episode. Andy, what do you. Who do you have going up?
Andy:I do have Nate going up as well, and I.
Andy:I had Dan going up with Blair for most of
Andy:it, but then I don't. I actually disagree with you. I think, like, he
Andy:didn't actually get what he wanted because, like, Serena's going off
Andy:with Aaron and he.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:I don't know. Like, I. He sort of ended
Andy:in a down, but I, think he maybe ends in, like, the
Andy:exact same fair.
Leif:That's fair.
Andy:And then for Jenni, to me, is a TBD.
Andy:You know, I'm like, I love up. Like,
Andy:she's in a great. This is a very crucial position for
Andy:Jenny to be in. Right? Like, she is, like, getting buzz.
Andy:She has. She's a talk of the town fashion. Like,
Andy:she could be the next big thing. but
Andy:be careful, Jenny. Be careful. But also
Andy:very nice to get a nice smooch from Nate. Like, I know she's wanted
Andy:that, and that's really cool for Jenny. And then I
Andy:have to admit that Aaron Rose, I know he's not a main character, but he
Andy:is the one who's looking up. You know, anyone who's, like,
Andy:has the eye of Serena, who has a hit gallery
Andy:opening. Like, yeah, I hate him.
Andy:Fuck, I guess Aaron Rose.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:It doesn't have to be a main character. They just have to be at least mentioned in the episode.
Steve:Yeah. Yeah.
Andy:And then Serena too, because, yeah, she gets a new,
Andy:new passion.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Steve.
Steve:So going up, I only had. I had
Steve:Nate. We all, you know, good guy Nate. We all had
Steve:Nate. Aaron also, you know,
Steve:Aaron. Aaron, his stock literally goes
Steve:up. Like, he's got this big buzz on his
Steve:art gallery display. He's got
Steve:two women interested in him, it
Steve:seems, unless the other ones, like his sister or
Steve:assistant or some shit like that, which is exactly what this show would
Steve:do.
Andy:Right?
Steve:And I had Rupas going up because his gallery put
Steve:on a really good event, and I think that
Steve:he really deserves props for that. But that is all I have
Steve:going up. I had a lot of no stock
Steve:on this episode.
Leif:So moving on to going down, I had
Leif:Chuck and Blair because they had. Still can't pull the
Leif:trigger, and Max because he's just a
Leif:fucking creep.
Andy:Deserve any? Yeah, I'm not trading. I'm not publicly
Andy:trading.
Steve:Publicly trading in Max.
Leif:Well, I like to. I like to drive people down as low.
Leif:I like to short stock.
Steve:Yeah. Which that's
Steve:where Chuck has been for most of our, most
Steve:of the run of this show.
Leif:What about you, Eddie? Who do you got going down?
Andy:I have. Yeah. Chuck and Blair. And then I also have
Andy:Eleanor going down because, I mean, she does
Andy:not look good in this episode in any way, shape or form, like,
Andy:as a mentor figure as a boss, as a
Andy:artist, as a fashion designer. Like, no one is interested in her
Andy:stuff anymore, and just a 15 year old who,
Andy:like, has made three dresses is more exciting. So,
Andy:like, yeah, that, to me, is, like, a really dark
Andy:place to be.
Leif:I'm actually going to add Eleanor to mine as well.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:Yeah. And I think that's all I had.
Leif:Steve.
Andy:Yeah. Dan is, like, kind of.
Steve:Yeah, yeah.
Leif:yeah. So just leave him as neutral, I guess, unless. Unless you want him to be
Leif:down.
Andy:No, we can give him neutral.
Steve:Yeah, neutral, too, because I.
Steve:And, in fact, I went neutral for Chuck and Blair, too, because
Steve:they didn't go anywhere. Like, that was my whole thing with
Steve:this episode is that it didn't do any. And I felt that way with
Steve:Dan, too. and I felt that way with Serena.
Steve:However, going down I had, I did have Jenny
Steve:going down because as of
Steve:right now, and, of course, this is also, like,
Steve:first watch with it. As of
Steve:right now, she has no job, and she
Steve:is taking advice from people that may
Steve:not be able to back up what they are
Steve:selling. So I feel like Jenny
Steve:took a huge risk. She took a hit in her stock because
Steve:of it. I also have Eleanor going down.
Steve:I was right on with both of you. With. With
Steve:Eleanor going down, I had Vanessa going down
Steve:because Vanessa sucks.
Steve:I typically take a shot at Vanessa when I can,
Steve:but also because I was really annoyed with Vanessa because,
Steve:like, being so offended that
Steve:the people that she tried to fuck over fucked her over
Steve:just really irked me with her.
Steve:And finally, I'm Max. I didn't have Max, but I
Steve:want to add Max to mine because let's.
Leif:Try some down into the negatives.
Steve:Yeah, yeah,
Steve:yeah. At one point, I said that this episode needed to
Steve:come with a seizure warning with the way that the
Steve:flash was just would not stop
Steve:in those scenes.
Leif:Okay. I think that is it for stock watch in
Leif:best outfit.
Steve:But here's the best outfits from the last
Steve:episode we see.
Leif:For me, it was Jetty's dress,
Leif:even with, like, the fringe. I love the punk rock look.
Leif:I just. I think it worked.
Andy:I mean, I I think it's funny that. I love that we had a
Andy:completely different thing because.
Steve:Yeah.
Andy:I was just like, oh, no, thank you. Like,
Andy:no, sorry. You can go forward. I feel like I'm sort of giving
Andy:my outfit.
Leif:Yeah, it's your turn. It's your turn to go ahead.
Andy:I would say. I, would say there was more bad than good in this
Andy:episode, and. But, like, I think, honestly, it was
Andy:Blair was the one who was giving the most looks that I was like, okay,
Andy:yes. And it was probably. I mean, it's an easy one, but, like, the
Andy:lingerie seduction scene, that outfit
Andy:wins.
Leif:Yeah. Can't go go with a Philip
Leif:herless.
Andy:But my real answer is Nate.
Andy:Bathroom towel.
Steve:Okay, that's it. That
Steve:is. Yeah. I,
Leif:There.
Steve:Yeah, I agree that this was not the best
Steve:fashion episode. There were a few outfits that I. Blair,
Steve:Blair had a lot of great outfits throughout the
Steve:episode. I agree with that. But I also
Steve:have Jenny's dress as
Steve:written down. Ah. It was. When
Steve:that first came on, Robin and I were both like,
Steve:oh, that dress, like, immediately.
Steve:and so. But that is also. That is also
Steve:so much more of a style that I would
Steve:be interested in seeing, though, like, that. That
Steve:fringy punk. Kind of, like I said, that
Steve:punkification of Jenny Humphrey.
Andy:What's funny? Because, yeah, like, I was like, oh, I hate this dress.
Andy:And then it was like, immediately after, I was like, oh, yeah, I forgot what the plot of this
Andy:episode. I was like, oh, shit. But then, like, my partner, Lily, like, she
Andy:came in, and I was like, come on, you have to see this. And she was
Andy:on my side, too.
Andy:Oh, we are. We like punk, too. So we're like,
Andy:yeah, just funny that, you know, that's fashion,
Andy:though.
Steve:It's gender, right? Yeah. Yeah, it really is.
Leif:So, that is it for segments. All we have left
Leif:are some plugs. But first, I want to thank you, Andy, for
Leif:joining us today.
Steve:Yeah, thank you so much. do you have anything you'd like to
Steve:plug on the show and anything you'd like to share
Steve:with anyone watching?
Andy:well, thank you for having me. This was fun. And, yeah, I
Andy:feel like, apparently, I still have stuff to say.
Andy:It's like. It's like, I need to shut up more.
Leif:you're free to come back next season.
Andy:Oh, let's. Yeah, I'll pick another
Andy:douche.
Steve:Please do.
Andy:Maybe a movie that I've seen the title based on.
Steve:There we go.
Andy:Yeah. In terms of plugs, like, I. Right now, I'm on
Andy:hiatus on it, but the naked man pod is sort of
Andy:the podcast I solo podcast I did after
Andy:gossip guys, and it's, to me, probably the best, like,
Andy:work I've ever done in terms of, I mean,
Andy:podcasting, but also just work in general. Like, it's a, it's a mental health
Andy:show. Like, it's called Naked man because it's about being
Andy:naked emotionally and being vulnerable and having
Andy:difficult conversations and, like, going into. It's an
Andy:interview show, but I also do monologues and I didn't
Andy:necessarily know it was going to be a mental health show
Andy:or be about my own mental health. And it sort
Andy:of started during COVID too. So like
Andy:was a lot of. And the world has just continued to get
Andy:scary. So I think it has a lot of that in there and just
Andy:me growing and learning about myself and being more open about
Andy:what it even means to be a man. so in a way
Andy:that is sort of a through line from gossip guys to this
Andy:because we were playing with the idea of like, oh, men liking. And so are
Andy:you men liking dramas. Hahaha.
Andy:and that. There's, there's nothing wrong with that or there shouldn't be.
Leif:Yeah.
Andy:but yeah, so I think that's what that show is. And then, you
Andy:know, hopefully, depending on when you listen to this, maybe
Andy:my first film will be out and ready to
Andy:be seen. It's a short film called
Andy:Contraction. it's a psychological horror film
Andy:that I shot and I was like, yeah, my directorial
Andy:debut. I'm submitting it to festivals now, but
Andy:maybe depending on when you listen to it, might have a Vimeo link or on
Andy:YouTube or something.
Leif:Definitely share it with us and I will put it in the show notes.
Steve:So. Yeah, and we'll blast it as much as
Steve:we can too.
Leif:Yeah, not much. This week I
Leif:did watch the new season of Cobra Kai. Pretty. Or like the first
Leif:half, I guess because the second half doesn't come out in first.
Steve:Is it any good?
Leif:it's got, it's got some funny parts, but yeah, the show's definitely gone on a
Leif:little too long.
Steve:Yeah, the first season was so fun and then I just
Steve:felt like it just.
Leif:Yeah. well, they're. They couldn't really keep going, with
Leif:the Daniel and Johnny as the main plot. They had. They
Leif:had to shift to the teenagers.
Steve:Yeah, it was. I felt like once they broke that
Steve:kid's neck, the levity just.
Leif:Yeah, yeah, it went over the top with that, that. The
Leif:big fight in school though.
Steve:Yeah.
Leif:Are you daddy, you watch the show at all?
Andy:I have not. It's been on the list, you know, but
Andy:no. And no worries about spoilers or anything like that. I've wanted
Andy:to watch it, but now I probably won't, to be
Andy:honest. I watch more
Andy:movies than tv, weirdly. I'm like, I go, I'm zigging
Andy:while other people are zagging.
Steve:I don't know.
Leif:so you can follow me on Instagram,
Leif:hotcapicola and you can follow the podcast
Leif:at nonjudging breakfast pod on Instagram,

Steve:And you no longer need a
Steve:subscription to Max to watch Gossip Girl. You can
Steve:now download the tubi app. This is not a paid
Steve:to be sponsorship. I am just, I don't know if.
Leif:You guys wanted to sponsor us or we're here to be.
Steve:By all means, we will take money to tell people,
Steve:because I actually love to be my daughter.
Steve:Yeah, my daughter and I watch a lot of horror movies,
Steve:and we love that we can find so many
Steve:classics or just like out of nowhere
Steve:horror films. On to be. I
Steve:absolutely love it. And so, yeah, to be, please give us
Steve:money. But also, more, more to the point,
Steve:if you want to watch Gossip Girl and watch our, and listen to our
Steve:podcast, it's now available to do all of that for
Steve:free. So check, out gossip Girl on
Steve:Tubi. Listen to an episode
Steve:and keep, following along.
Andy:Yes.
Leif:We will be back next week for season two,
Leif:episode nine, there might be
Leif:blood. The max episode description
Leif:reads, Aaron has been keeping a secret from
Leif:Serena already.
Steve:What.
