Blair:

Well, good afternoon, everyone. This is episode 67 of the Secular Foxwell podcast. Today it's just Martin and I, or Martin and me, we're going to catch up on some things. And I wanted to specifically talk about this one great story I found. I'll give a hat tip to Professor Brad Thompson about this, but I just want to say hello, Martin. How are you?

Martin:

I'm fine. Yourself, Blair?

Blair:

Yeah, I'm hanging in there again in our green room. We're both a little rushed today.

Martin:

Yeah. Things to do and another podcast and other things like that. But we are catching up. So that's the thing, to have a good news sandwich story and then talk a little bit about future events and guests and also value for value model in a short and sweet episode.

Blair:

Yeah, exactly. I got to get one thing up. Here we go.

Martin:

Yeah.

Blair:

All right. So let's see a new sandwich. Well, I have good news. I think it's good news. How do you want to talk about bad news? I'm not really in the mood for.

Martin:

No, I have lots of bad news. But we could talk about what's going on in well, that's true politics and so on, but what we could do for some other area. So now it's only the buns, the positive and the positive. So it's like a sandwich, but you could add things to it. But yeah, we'll take the positive news for our listeners.

Blair:

We try to do a dropbox paper for every episode. So we have some links and ideas and things to talk about. And Martin and I are going to be guests on a local, at least local for me, monthly objectivist group next month on April 8 in Connecticut.

Martin:

That's a positive news.

Blair:

Yes, that is positive. It's a group of a dozen or so local objectivists here in the northeastern US. And we're going to talk about the topic will be a brief history of blogging and brief history of podcasting and about our show and a few other things probably as we go along. And then we'll throw it open to questions from the audience. So hopefully we'll be all ready for that. That's great. Yeah, it should be a good time. It should be a good time. Then Martin says something about he got a T shirt, so why don't you mention that?

Martin:

Yeah. And that will be about this value for value thing. So I have supported in equal in Satoshis, like bits of bitcoin around $125 or maybe more around that amount and over time. And then you get the T shirt from Dave Jones and Adam Curry of Podcast in 2.0, the podcast there. So they send it from their shop. They have a shop called New Agenda Shop that are for that podcast. Also, they have merchandise for different shows. Okay, so there I got this T shirt called Podcasting 2.0, certified that you're getting it. So have done your due diligence and worked and supported this initiative. So that's a symbolic thing, like a nice shout out, you could say, and then of course you promote it in a good way. So I got that and got nice responses and comments on Facebook, for example, maybe a future guest there that comment on if we want to have him on his show. And, yeah, it's great to do it because it's this awareness. What is Podcasting 2.0 and what's this thing about namespace and pod ping and value for value and so on? I will include that in the show, notes, the link to my Instagram post there and if you are interested as listeners and that what I see, the positive thing. So I will now go on the soapbox for a bit but we are doing this because we enjoy it for selfish reason and we will continue with it. But we also have this asked that if you value this, you could support us in different ways. And we have for example, one guest and listener that have done that and send us through PayPal. And we had a discussion there about this service, Wikipedia, how you could support them. And I'm for that also to do that. And then we are producing material for free and we don't have any paywalls or so but there ain't no such thing as a free lunch, right, Blair?

Blair:

True.

Martin:

So we have costs for example in Rough, maybe $100 or whatnot per month with what we are using now, like ringer, the recording, editing, all the two and also the hosting and other things like you bought a domain for. We haven't promoted our own new site so much, but the secularfoxol live with Hyphens between the words that you bought and service there called Pod Page, that also cost is it like $20 per.

Blair:

Month, I think, right?

Martin:

We are adding up things for our budget and that will be great to introduce listeners because it's in for the long run how to do it. So we are taking fiat coupons as they say, but we are for the real money like bitcoin and bits of bitcoin like Satoshis but paper, we are all for it. Buy me a coffee. Or in my case it's tea, but whatever. So we'll promote it more. But we are not begging. We don't ask you to sacrifice your higher values for us. But we think we are producing a value so that we want to remind our listener and our guests and future guests and listeners to do that. So we'll continue to talk about this ask and help you and guide you away, how you could do that. And we also want to let me.

Blair:

Jump in just for a second and give the website it's the Hyphensecularfoxhole live. It's a pretty good looking site, if I do say so myself website. And as far as donating, I think the best thing I just thought of this Martin Through the Fountain app would be your email address, I think. Yeah, and I think my email address as well. So we could put both of those in the Show Notes. If you want to donate Satoshis or Satoshi's. Satoshi's, I believe, is correct. Through the fountain.

Martin:

App.

Blair:

We would get those that way. Yeah, that's the main way. And then of course, good old US dollar through PayPal our email addresses, we'll probably put those in the show notes as well. Again, we do this for our own enjoyment, but we also for the long haul, we hope to attract steady listeners and hope to be able to cover the costs, if you will.

Martin:

Yeah, and when we come to that with the stats, so we don't have I'm not to want to rely on that, but so called the expression sad puppy and I'm for cats, but we haven't recently got any donations. But we know people are busy. We have other to support and also listen. But some, some time ago we got money, for example, and satoshi's, real money from chiron down of mere mortals, podcasts and others, and also streaming. I think that will be the long run for the future when people get into this groove to say, for example, I want to support when I'm listening to a podcast, ten sets per minute or 100 or whatever. So it's like you budget that and support a podcast by listening to a new podcast app like Fountain, podverse, Customatic and others. I did some time ago a review of 15 different new podcast apps. So I could include that in the show notes also. So coming back to that with this stats, then if you do this value for value, for example, a symbolic dollar, that's about 3573 satoshi today when we are recording, if you do a liberty boost that I like to do to fellow podcasters, that's 1776 a year, that's about to joke with so called artist, $0.50, right? About fifty cents a half dollar. And if you do a rans day boost that I in a way not created but added to this GitHub thing, and that's this ransday boost of 22195 satushis, and that's Rand's birthday and February 2, and the year one nine five, and that's about $62. So the stats from Captivate is that we have about eight downloads per day, unique listeners, and the listeners the last 28 days are around 105.

Blair:

Good.

Martin:

And then we come to this critical thing. We appreciate that we have around every month around 100 listeners. We have thousands of downloads, like 7000 the whole way, and we have thousands of unique listeners over time, and we want to have more, and if we will get it over time. But the critical thing is, and the reality is that four or 5% maybe will take that extra step, as they do on Wikipedia, for example, to send one time donation or a monthly donation. Whatnot? So if we take that, we have around 100 unique listeners per month. That's maybe then five or four or five or something like that. But if that will happen, we are really cover our costs and embody it. And we could continue and we could add things and we could invest more things into this. And I do it myself, support fellow podcasters and objectivists and others, content creators and authors and writers and newsletters. So that's what I want to say and promote. Yeah, do that.

Blair:

All right, I found this again, this is I give a hat tip to Professor Brad Thompson for putting this in his weekly Notes newsletter. This is a story about outer space and that Blue Origin, which is Jeff Bezos's company, and a company called Sierra Space announced plans for a commercial space station. And I think that's pretty exciting. Let me click on the store here.

Martin:

Just give a quick rundown at Sierra Space.

Blair:

Sierra Space? Sierra Space. Yeah. And there's a great link in Sciencenews or Spacenews excuse me, spacenews.com, which will include in the Notes let's see, what year was this announced? Wow, it's been a while. A couple of years ago, actually, October of 2021. So they are underway, hopefully on getting this thing together. If you go to the Sierra Space, you'll see a spaceship called Dream Chaser, and then you'll see a Life habitat and orbital reef, which I believe the Besos and Sierra Space collaboration will be the orbital reef, which will be the commercial station, which will have living quarters and laboratories and so on. See if there's a launch date or hopefully an activation date, so to speak. So sometime in the middle of this decade and so on and so forth is the best I can come up. But the stories will be the links will be put in the show notes, but I think that's really good news and I'm hoping at least the commercial aspect of this, it will not be. I don't like international space stations where our enemies can partake in it as well as us. I hope it's just for United States and our dependable allies instead of those who will use space against us, if you will. But that's my two cent. Yeah, great about that. And it's almost three, Martin, so I know you've got the run.

Martin:

Yeah. So. Thanks, Blair. Nice talking to you again. And we will talk soon again. And thanks for listening to our podcast. And yeah, cheerio and talk soon again.

Blair:

Yes, we'll certainly be in touch. And we have a show with Richard Saltzman coming up about famous debt economists.

Martin 14:1

Yes, and that will include also a link, a clip from Podcasting 2.0 podcast that I asked about Sean Baptiste and then Dave Jones talked about Frederick Bastillard. So we will include that in the show Notes also. So we're looking forward to that conversation with Richard Small Saltzman.

Blair:

All right, my friend, take care. Thanks.

Martin:

Take care. Bye for now. Yes.
