On this week's episode of Devil's Trap podcast, we've got chicken wings and grace kinks.
Speaker B:Let's do this.
Speaker A:Welcome to this week's episode of Devil's Trap podcast.
Speaker A:I'm Diana.
Speaker B:I'm Liz.
Speaker A:And we're going to talk about season 13, episode 13, Devil's Bargain.
Speaker B:1313.
Speaker B:And Devil's Bargain isn't.
Speaker B:I mean, it's kind of a phrase, right?
Speaker A:It's.
Speaker B:Would you say it's an idiom?
Speaker A:I think so, yeah.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker B:But there's nothing like.
Speaker B:There's no, like, certain anything it's referencing that I could not tell.
Speaker A:Yeah, I don't think so.
Speaker B:It didn't say anything in the wiki that I saw.
Speaker B:Unless I missed it.
Speaker B:So, anyways, what have you been up to?
Speaker A:I've been busy.
Speaker A:I. I went to a.
Speaker A:The Red Bull Jukebox in Dallas, which was a country show put on by Red Bull.
Speaker A:Anyways, it was kind of fun.
Speaker A:I say it's kind of.
Speaker A:It was a very fun night and I know some great people that were involved in putting it on.
Speaker A:And I like Red Bull Zero a lot and.
Speaker B:Sponsor.
Speaker B:I mean, feel free, but.
Speaker A:No, it's fine.
Speaker A:No, I actually do.
Speaker A:I. I like, really like Red Bull Zero, but I don't drink a lot of Red Bull vodkas, and I did that night.
Speaker A:And then when I went to bed, I felt like my insides were made of static because I was drinking Red Bull at night and I apparently shouldn't drink.
Speaker B:Yeah, yeah, you probably.
Speaker B:I mean, I know you enjoy them, but you probably shouldn't be drinking them at all.
Speaker A:Well, that blood 0 is made with monk fruit.
Speaker A:It's like healthy, basically.
Speaker B:Sure, sure.
Speaker A:I don't drink them all.
Speaker B:It's like you're drinking fruit juice.
Speaker A:Exactly.
Speaker B:Just exactly like fruit juice that will explode your heart.
Speaker A:But yeah, so, no, it's fun.
Speaker A:And this really great artist, Sammy Arriaga played and it was really fun.
Speaker A:And then.
Speaker A:And I got to see another artist, Angel White, I like.
Speaker A:And then they hosted a little.
Speaker A:Little.
Speaker A:Say little, because the venue's tiny ska prom in the Bishop Arts.
Speaker A:And that was fun.
Speaker A:And we went and saw our friends Boss Riot play along with San Antonio band the Skajacks, and they were really fun.
Speaker A:Cool.
Speaker A:That was cool to go little neighborhood cute bar and have.
Speaker A:And see some friends play music.
Speaker A:And then.
Speaker A:And then had a chill weekend after that.
Speaker A:Cool.
Speaker A:But yeah, yeah, that was my.
Speaker A:So I got out twice.
Speaker A:What the.
Speaker A:I know.
Speaker A:I'm catching back up.
Speaker A:Liz, you were giving me last week.
Speaker A:I said, I Hadn't been to anything.
Speaker A:So.
Speaker A:Yeah, there we go.
Speaker A:Back at it.
Speaker A:Nice.
Speaker A:What have you been up to?
Speaker B:Oh, it's.
Speaker B:It has been a week of just.
Speaker B:Just different aerial things.
Speaker B:It was the Texas Aerial Gathering, so.
Speaker B:So I had classes on top of workshops, on top of showcases.
Speaker B:I was not in a showcase.
Speaker B:I just went and watched it, which was fun.
Speaker B:And the showcases, mainly teachers from all over Texas and one from Colorado, and the one from Colorado was 49.
Speaker B:And they did this thing while we are waiting.
Speaker B:So when you do an aerial showcase, a lot of times you have to wait for them to change their rigging if there's as they're switching between apparatuses.
Speaker B:Because it's like this time, like, it's someone on a sphere.
Speaker B:And this is.
Speaker B:They had like a sphere.
Speaker B:They had.
Speaker B:They had someone on a weird triangle thing.
Speaker B:And then they had, you know, a couple on a lira and then silks and hammocks.
Speaker B:So you have to change all these things out.
Speaker B:So you have to sit and wait.
Speaker B:And so people have to work the crowd.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:And so Angela, who owns Cirque Area, which is a place I go to, is like, walking around.
Speaker B:Like, the question she decides to ask is like, who's the oldest people here?
Speaker B:I'm like, what kind of question is this?
Speaker B:And then I, like, had to raise my hand.
Speaker B:And then I found out that there actually was some of the.
Speaker B:So the aerialist who performed on Silks was very good.
Speaker B:She was 49.
Speaker B:She was in Colorado.
Speaker B:But there was someone who was from New Mexico, and she was in one of my classes, and she was 50, 57, I think, think.
Speaker A:Oh.
Speaker B:So at least I was not the.
Speaker B:The elder list aal there.
Speaker B:So that was.
Speaker B:But it was still just like, can you think of a different question to ask next time?
Speaker B:Maybe, maybe not.
Speaker B:Maybe just ask.
Speaker B:Just go with the youngest one and go with the farthest distance.
Speaker B:Let's not make us feel.
Speaker B:It's kind of empowering.
Speaker B:But also it's like, hey, yes, I know I'm old.
Speaker B:Thanks for.
Speaker A:She was trying to give you a rah rah and didn't realize the.
Speaker A:The Also the no, no of that.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:So I also learned.
Speaker B:So I took one of my classes was called Lira esque.
Speaker B:And so as a cross between Lyra, which is aerial hoop, if you don't know, and Burlesque, which is shaking your titties.
Speaker B:And so we were doing a learning isolations, which included like, these ones for your butt.
Speaker B:And I learned that I cannot easily shake my butt cheeks in, like, as as single butt cheeks.
Speaker B:So like, you know, left butt cheek.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:Independently.
Speaker B:So, like, left butt cheek, right butt cheek.
Speaker B:Left butt cheek, right butt cheek.
Speaker B:So I was in a room with people that I previously paid to be in this room to sit there and try and figure out how to make my butt cheek independent work independently of the other one.
Speaker B:So people could stand sitting there and look at my butt.
Speaker A:It's like the butt version of what Terry Crews does with his pecs.
Speaker B:It's exactly like that.
Speaker B:And, you know, we were.
Speaker B:We were doing that too, because it was obviously like, you know, how you.
Speaker B:How you make the boobs shake and how you made the tassels twirl.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Which is, you know, it's not what you really think it is.
Speaker B:I mean, unless it's a lot.
Speaker B:A lot of.
Speaker B:It's kind of been stolen from belly dancing, I think.
Speaker B:But the ice, the body isolations, like, they're.
Speaker B:It's not as intuitive.
Speaker B:It's not as like.
Speaker B:Oh, that's what you mean.
Speaker B:I'm not just like flopping the titties.
Speaker A:Around, you know, just swinging them.
Speaker B:You're not just swinging them in the air, you know, like a cat on a rope, you know, So I.
Speaker B:It was.
Speaker B:But, you know, it was still a.
Speaker B:A.
Speaker B:A thing to do that you do.
Speaker B:I don't know, like, how many.
Speaker B:How many times am I going to learn how.
Speaker B:And then.
Speaker B:And then having to get up and perform in front of this group of people who I will hopefully never see again.
Speaker B:I don't know.
Speaker B:But it was just, you know, like, here, learn how to shake your titties.
Speaker B:And then to get into this hoop and shake your.
Speaker B:And shake your things for.
Speaker B:And your butt and what.
Speaker B:And you just really, like, by shaking like your heel or shaking, you know, like your ribs.
Speaker B:Breathing.
Speaker B:Breathing weird.
Speaker B:You know, there are all those things that.
Speaker B:That's what all the shaking the stuff looks like.
Speaker B:But then having to figure out how to do it in the air while.
Speaker A:You're spinning in a circ that adds a layer of complexity that.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:And like, sometimes balancing yourself and, like, trying.
Speaker B:I was like, oh, yeah, there's some other things to do.
Speaker B:But it was still a fun class and a good time.
Speaker A:So that's fun.
Speaker A:That is fun.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:Oh, so there is anything going on in the land of our ESPN family so much a.
Speaker B:Let's see.
Speaker B:I was going to say, it has been confirmed that Jensen Act, Jensen Ackles, will be on Tracker Season 4.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:So that is one thing that came out that I forgot to mention.
Speaker B:Last week.
Speaker B:But beyond that, there isn't much on the news front for them.
Speaker B:Yep.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker B:All right.
Speaker B:Let's talk about Devil's bargain.
Speaker B:So season 13, episode 13.
Speaker B:I like 13 13.
Speaker B:It's cool.
Speaker B: ,: Speaker B:And season 12, rock never dies.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:And it was written by the partner pair, Eugenie Ross Living and Brad Buckner.
Speaker B:And they.
Speaker B:We have.
Speaker B:They've written so many things.
Speaker B:But this season, they did the Rising sun, which is episode two, and War of the Worlds, which was episode seven.
Speaker B:And with our recap, it starts off with Lucifer yapping about Michael being a monster apocalypse.
Speaker B:Kevin Tran made a spell with the rift that Lucifer jumped through.
Speaker B:Asmodeus did not get the shape shifting thing from Lucifer.
Speaker B:Mary is still trapped in another reality.
Speaker B:Sam is upset there is no plan.
Speaker B:Dean, his team will figure it out.
Speaker B:And Lucifer wants to suck on Cass's grace.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:And so what we see is this episode opens with Castiel stumbling through the woods, and we see him have a memory of Lucifer stabbing him, and then him stabbing Lucifer, and then he's, like, bleeding from his mouth, and it fades out.
Speaker A:He fades out.
Speaker A:And is he bleeding from his mouth.
Speaker B:Or is he vomiting blood?
Speaker A:Well, there's blood on his face.
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker C:Okay.
Speaker B:I've had vomiting blood, but he could have just have like a.
Speaker B:A busted lip, you know?
Speaker B:But so then healing flashes.
Speaker B:Healing passes out.
Speaker B:And then these two kids come up, and one of them is just poking Cass with a stick because he thinks he's dead.
Speaker A:Oh, my gosh.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:And Castiel wakes up and he's healed.
Speaker A:And this startles the children because they thought he was dead.
Speaker A:And he wakes up suddenly, and it is, for.
Speaker B:It's kind of funny.
Speaker A:It is funny.
Speaker A:So he goes back to the asylum place where.
Speaker A:What is this?
Speaker A:What are we calling it?
Speaker A:Where.
Speaker A:Where they escaped from.
Speaker A:And he's yelling for Lucifer.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:So.
Speaker B:And that's also pretty funny because he's just like Lucifer.
Speaker B:And, like, you might as well be, like, shaking his fist.
Speaker B:And it looks totally sane.
Speaker B:So we're going from there to Monroe City, Missouri, and someone is skating down a sidewalk and just knocking people around.
Speaker B:And I don't really understand.
Speaker A:It's bad, this.
Speaker A:And she's rollerblading, I'd like to point out.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:It's blazing.
Speaker B:Rollerblading.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Not well.
Speaker A:And we get kind of like our rom com fairy tale music.
Speaker A:And we see a guy carrying a very large cake which, for the record, that would be very extensive, expensive.
Speaker A:It's a multi tier take that's clearly a wedding cake.
Speaker A:And he throws it to catch her from falling.
Speaker A:What?
Speaker B:He.
Speaker B:He chose her over this cake.
Speaker B:And then he drops it.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:And she says, I think I just fell for you.
Speaker B:And he responds with, I'll catch you anytime you fall.
Speaker A:Oh.
Speaker B:What the.
Speaker B:What?
Speaker B:What?
Speaker B:Ew.
Speaker B:What is happening?
Speaker B:And somebody is watching them smiling.
Speaker A:And he's got a really good pink trench coat on that I kind of like.
Speaker A:And we see him smiling, and then Lucifer confronts this man.
Speaker A:Because this is not just a man.
Speaker A:This is Cupid.
Speaker A:An angel.
Speaker B:A cupid.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:So a cupid.
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker A:So he puts angel blade to the Cupid's neck.
Speaker A:And he's like, I'm gonna take your grace.
Speaker A:And so he cuts his neck and out.
Speaker A:His grace.
Speaker A:And Cuba's like, really tired.
Speaker A:And he's like.
Speaker A:And Lucifer's like, where do I find.
Speaker B:More angels for seconds?
Speaker B:Because it's gross.
Speaker A:And like, the.
Speaker A:Cuba's like.
Speaker A:He's like, I. I don't know.
Speaker A:There's not very many of us left.
Speaker A:I don't know what to tell you.
Speaker A:And cries and begs.
Speaker A:And Lucifer is like, by the way, you're a human, so be careful.
Speaker A:Accidents happen.
Speaker A:And then punches through his torso.
Speaker C:So.
Speaker B:Necessary rude.
Speaker B:Why do that?
Speaker B:What's up?
Speaker B:What?
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker B:So he's.
Speaker B:He's killed the poor Cupid.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:There's no reason, but he did.
Speaker B:And so we go from that to the bunker, and Cass is trying to get it through the boy's head.
Speaker B:The Asmodeas had him locked up for weeks.
Speaker B:And that was him they were talking to on the phone, not Cass.
Speaker B:I was locked up for three weeks.
Speaker B:You didn't come look for me.
Speaker B:Fuck off, guys.
Speaker B:Not really, but, you know, like, there.
Speaker B:I think there's kind of like an underlying.
Speaker A:Like, he's annoyed that he's having to explain this to them again.
Speaker A:Yes.
Speaker A:And then.
Speaker A:But he's also trying to fill them in about how there is a Kevin Tran in the Apocalypse World who knows how to open the rift and with if he has Lucifer's grace.
Speaker A:And they also have an angel tablet in Apocalypse World.
Speaker A:Oh, and Apocalypse Michael wants to evade, invade and conquer their world.
Speaker A:So that's why Castiel was hanging out.
Speaker B:With Lucifer, which upsets Sam.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:Sam is just upset that they were working together.
Speaker B:Cassidy still justifies it, you know, imminent annihilation.
Speaker B:That's a thing.
Speaker B:And he knew Lucifer was lying.
Speaker B:But Asmodeus showed up anyways.
Speaker B:And then they escaped.
Speaker B:And of course, Lucifer tried to kill him.
Speaker B:And all he knows about Mary is that she is alive.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:So we cut back to Lucifer, who's looking for angels, or as he refers to them, flappers.
Speaker A:But all he sees is humans.
Speaker A:But then he sees a young man panhandling.
Speaker A:I don't know what term we want to use here.
Speaker A:Yeah, he's panhandling.
Speaker A:And, you know, and after he's learning that Lucifer, with less grace, is experiencing fun, fun things like being cold and.
Speaker B:Hungry, and he finds all these human emotions gross.
Speaker B:And he really also really is, like, eyeing this puffer jacket, and he's like, I don't have any money.
Speaker B:You know, cheeseburger.
Speaker B:This guy panhandling seems like it's something that really catches his interest.
Speaker A:So we cut back to Asmodeus, and he's pissed, and he's talking to Catch about how Lucifer has escaped.
Speaker A:And.
Speaker A:But Asmodeus wasn't there because he was on an important errand.
Speaker A:But Catch is like, okay, well, what, Maybe your whole plan on keeping Lucifer as a prisoner was kind of a dumb plan.
Speaker A:And he's like, well, now that's fine, because now I don't want to keep him as a prisoner.
Speaker A:I want you to find him and kill him.
Speaker A:Catch.
Speaker A:That's your new job.
Speaker A:He's weak, so just take an angel blade to him.
Speaker A:Do it before he gets his strength back.
Speaker B:Yeah, it should be easy enough if you catch him.
Speaker B:Right?
Speaker B:So maybe, we don't know.
Speaker B:We get back to Lucifer, and Lucifer has decided that he is going to try panhandling.
Speaker B:But the way that he does it is just by going, money, money, please.
Speaker A:That's all I can think of from Parks and Rec.
Speaker A:Yeah, money, please.
Speaker B:But his vibe is not working.
Speaker B:The other guy, who I'm just gonna tell his name is Tim.
Speaker B:Like, that's just like the name because he gets in.
Speaker B:In the transcript.
Speaker B:I just was calling him that guy.
Speaker B:And then I was like, I finally looked it up, and I'm like, his name is Tim.
Speaker B:So Tim tells him that it's vibe that is throwing people off.
Speaker B:And Lucifer thinks that being human sucks.
Speaker A:And Tim's like, yeah, but what's the alternative?
Speaker A:Which is just funny to say to Lucifer, but.
Speaker A:And so he starts packing up, and we see him and.
Speaker A:And we see that now when he stands, we see he has crutches, and he's like.
Speaker A:Basically says, he'll get.
Speaker A:He'll feed Lucifer at this point, because, you know, you can tell Lucifer is hungry and failed at panhandling.
Speaker A:And.
Speaker A:But Lucifer is really annoyed when they walk past the restaurant entrance and go straight to the dumpster.
Speaker B:Oh, yeah, because all that money that he made is going for his leg fund.
Speaker B:And he's not wasting his money on doctors, though it's for Sister Joe.
Speaker B:And Lucifer feels the need to tell him that all faith healers are fake.
Speaker B:But Tim swears that he's seen it for real.
Speaker B:So there's boils, blindness, and birth defects, which I thought was some nice alliteration.
Speaker A:It is.
Speaker A:It is.
Speaker A:But he's seen.
Speaker A:She touches them, they glow, and then they're cured.
Speaker B:And once again, Lucifer is intrigued.
Speaker B:Yes, he's intrigued a lot this episode.
Speaker A:He is.
Speaker A:He's learning a lot this episode.
Speaker A:Episode.
Speaker A:I guess.
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker A:So we see back in the bunker, Dean has something wrapped up in a cloth that he brings to Castiel.
Speaker A:And he's talking about, this is their long shot.
Speaker A:And he is like, look, I'm.
Speaker A:I'm sorry for not realizing that that was Asmodeus and not you.
Speaker A:Yes.
Speaker A:That we talked to for the last several weeks.
Speaker B:My bad.
Speaker B:My bad.
Speaker B:And, you know, at this point, I think if I were them, I would start establishing code words.
Speaker A:That's a good idea.
Speaker B:I mean, because we, you know, this is going on, and it is just gonna lead to more shenanigans, you know, no more coming.
Speaker B:Not, you know, as we see this episode.
Speaker B:But it should just.
Speaker B:Should be a thing like, hey, we done up.
Speaker B:We need to have a solution to this so this doesn't happen to us again.
Speaker B:But they just.
Speaker B:Let's go past that.
Speaker B:And so cast is like, look, all that matters is getting Mary and Jack.
Speaker A:Out of Apocalypse lips land because he promised Kelly that he would take care of her son.
Speaker A:So we then have the entrance of Donnie, Donatello.
Speaker A:And so Sam comes in, too, and they have decided they have a plan because Lucifer is weak.
Speaker A:Because I think he's still weak.
Speaker A:They're going to nab Lucifer.
Speaker A:The angel cuffs should work, maybe.
Speaker A:And then they'll use his grace to reopen the rift so they can get to Jack and Mary.
Speaker A:And then they will get out, and they will slam the door before Michael gets through.
Speaker B:Easy peasy.
Speaker B:Sure.
Speaker B:And Sam reveals that cloth, what was hiding was a demon tablet.
Speaker B:And Dontello just looks at it.
Speaker B:Ah.
Speaker B:And they think that since it's word of God, just like the angel tablet was, maybe it has a spell on it.
Speaker B:And Donatello is freaked out by the glyphs on the tablet, and he needs chicken wings because he Needs brain fuel.
Speaker B:And he tells him that his analysis and the half lives of the 33 arsenic tysotopes took about 25 buckets.
Speaker A:Is that like a good.
Speaker A:It's like buckets of chicken.
Speaker A:Is that a, Is that a measurement component for calculation processing?
Speaker A:It is.
Speaker B:It's how many buckets it takes to process it.
Speaker A:I appreciate that.
Speaker A:And then angel radio kicks off, like real loud.
Speaker A:And Castiel's like grabbing his head because he.
Speaker B:They always seems painful.
Speaker B:Like, like should, should angel radio always be painful?
Speaker B:Like, do you need to find another station?
Speaker B:Because I guess I get it with Jack, maybe like him not knowing how to tune it.
Speaker B:But like, why is it like lately it seems just like.
Speaker A:Uncomfortable, which is odd.
Speaker A:But basically there's a vessel that has been found mutilated and Don Donatello is like, who's killing angels?
Speaker A:So.
Speaker B:And we go to Elgin hall where a woman in a walker hands another woman 300 for the fallen cash only, it seems.
Speaker A:And as she, she hands the money over and this redheaded woman touches her shoulders.
Speaker A:And where she touches, the old woman stands up straight and throws the walker aside.
Speaker A:She no longer needs it.
Speaker A:She is healed.
Speaker B:Tada.
Speaker A:And then next, a young man walks up with a hood up on his face.
Speaker A:He pulls it back and he's got a bunch of very bad scars on his face and neck.
Speaker A:And she tells him not to be afraid.
Speaker A:And she touches his face and her hand glows on his face and mumbles some words.
Speaker A:I couldn't hear what she said.
Speaker A:And then I don't know, maybe.
Speaker A:I don't know if you did, but.
Speaker A:But his face is healed.
Speaker A:And she hands him a mirror and he cries and thanks her.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:And there is much applause.
Speaker B:And so we're going to talk about another faith healer and another sister that is too.
Speaker B:So this is Laura.
Speaker B:And instead of Sister Jo, we're going to talk about Sister Amy McPherson.
Speaker B: ,: Speaker B: f the old century, of the old: Speaker B:So she was born to James, the staunch Methodist, and Mildred, a passionate, tambourine thumping member of the Salvation Army.
Speaker B:As a teenager, Amy would rebel by going to movies, reading novels and attending dances.
Speaker B:Wild.
Speaker B:She also made opinions known from an early age, like when she insisted on writing to Canadian newspapers to complain about state funded schools teaching evolution, a foreshadowing of her future political leanings.
Speaker B:At 17, Amy found herself in the throes of passion for both the Pentecostal movement and.
Speaker B:And a Pentecostal Irish immigrant preacher named Robert Semple, who was working with the Chicago's North Avenue Mission.
Speaker B:And she and Robert would get married on her family's farm in Ontario.
Speaker B:The couple moved back to Chicago and joined William Durham's Full Gospel assembly, where Amy was instructed in the practice of interpretation of tongues.
Speaker B:And those people speaking in tongues, not just tongues in general, you know, we would say so Amy, and nothing like that.
Speaker B:Tanya is really long.
Speaker B:And I can interpret that to mean.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:So Amy and Robert were much excited to take their dream missionary trip to China, but it was spoiled when both contracted malaria.
Speaker B:Robert then got dysentery and died and just ruined the whole trip.
Speaker A:Amy.
Speaker B:It would be a bummer, but Amy still had to give birth to their daughter that she got pregnant with before he died.
Speaker B:So she, she got pregnant.
Speaker B:She gave birth to Roberta Starr.
Speaker B:One month after his death, Amy's mom sends her money to come back from China, which is nice of her mom.
Speaker B:And after arriving back, Amy went to work for the Salvation army with her mother.
Speaker B: son, and they were married in: Speaker B:Amy soon gave birth to a son, Rolf, which is a name that you just don't hear that much or ever.
Speaker B:So his name is Rolf, like the dog or the character in Sound of Music.
Speaker B:And those are the only Rolfs I know besides the dog.
Speaker A:You mean the Muppet, but yes, the Muppet, yes.
Speaker B:So the sitting at home married life was not for Amy.
Speaker B:And three years into her second marriage, she would take the kids and hit the road in a Packard Touring car with the words, Jesus is coming soon.
Speaker B:Get ready for painted on the side.
Speaker B:And this is like a, you know, that's like a 19, like 13, 19, 14ish car.
Speaker B:That thing had to be huge, right?
Speaker B:They have that many words painted on the side of it.
Speaker A:I mean, those cars weren't huge.
Speaker A:That's what's crazy.
Speaker A:Like, where did she find space to put that?
Speaker A:They were all like the little, like, coupes and sedans.
Speaker B:Oh, so what was the pack?
Speaker B:It was the touring car.
Speaker B:So the touring cards are big.
Speaker B:They're made, they're made to go like.
Speaker A:That's true.
Speaker B:So as she crossed.
Speaker B:So a few weeks on the road, she invited Harold to join.
Speaker B:Join her in her evangelical work.
Speaker B:And he did.
Speaker B:But by a couple years later, after several failed attempts to start his own career as an evangelist, they divorced.
Speaker B:And I'm just saying he's just not important to our story, so we can just forget about Harold.
Speaker B:So she, he gave her his last name.
Speaker B:That's pretty much what she took from him, besides Rolf.
Speaker B:So as she crossed the country, Amy preached in churches or staked out a tent in a field for a revival.
Speaker B:Some people came just to see the novelty of a Pentecostal female preacher, but stayed because the drama sucked them in.
Speaker B:Her tent revivals included people speaking in tongues and faith healing demonstrations where the lame were made to walk and the blind were made to see.
Speaker B:Healing was central to Amy's ministry.
Speaker B:Amy's healing practices encouraged strong faith in the basic tenets of Pentecostal belief, including that the sick opened themselves up to God's healing potential and that embracing pain and God's will is a prerequisite to healing.
Speaker B:After her dislocated ankle was healed by Brother J, who broke out praying in tongues and then in English said, in the name of Jesus, receive your healing, then laid his hands on her ankle, she felt a shock of electricity that load through my whole body, causing me to shake and tremble under the power of God.
Speaker B:And then she, her dislocated ankle was, was located.
Speaker B:And that's how it's healed, right?
Speaker B:So then, while sick with Spanish influenza, Amy received a vision that God would give her a home in California.
Speaker B:So she and the family drove from New York to Los Angeles.
Speaker B:Amy preaching revivals along the way.
Speaker B:And so the trip lasted two months.
Speaker B:I mean, like, girl, we gotta go, so no more singing.
Speaker B:We, we've gotta get going.
Speaker B:Can you, can you shut up, Amy?
Speaker A:A long road trip.
Speaker B:It's a long road trip.
Speaker B:So her first revival in Los Angeles was held at Victoria Hall, a 1,000 seat auditorium downtown.
Speaker B:She soon reached capacity there and had to relocate to the 3,500seat Temple Auditorium approaching square where people waited for hours to enter the crowded venue.
Speaker B: By: Speaker B:At an event in San Diego.
Speaker B:It drew 30,000 plus and the Marines volunteered for crowd control.
Speaker B:There, Amy laid hands on a supposedly paralyzed woman who rose from her chair and walked.
Speaker B:And the crowd ate it up.
Speaker B:Huh?
Speaker B:Amy would be key in bringing the evangelical movement to mass media and was on her way to becoming the first celebrity of the mass media era.
Speaker B:Which makes me wonder, are we at the end of the social media area era now?
Speaker B:Is that what we're about to enter, the AI Media era?
Speaker B:Probably.
Speaker B:Gross.
Speaker B:Okay, so Amy hit the road on a four year national tour to raise money for a temple in Los Angeles.
Speaker B:Basically to a home base, right?
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker B:She preached to a wide denomination range of denominations including Methodist, Presbyterian, Baptist, Congregational and Assemblies of God churches.
Speaker B:And her venues included convention centers, halls and sports arenas.
Speaker B: In: Speaker B:She quickly accumulated the necessary funds, built it and set out to create live radio broadcasts to accommodate her wide variety of listeners.
Speaker B:She became the first woman to be granted a broadcast license by the fcc.
Speaker B:And she built a true mass media empire.
Speaker B:A groundbreaking strategy that 20th century evangelists would later replicate.
Speaker B:Think Jim.
Speaker B:Jim Baker.
Speaker B:I almost said Jim Jones.
Speaker B:Think Jim Jones.
Speaker A:A little different, you know.
Speaker B:So besides her radio broadcast, she also had publications and distributions of thousands of magazines throughout Europe and the Pacific islands.
Speaker B:She had her own printing press to broadcast her teachings to a nationwide audience.
Speaker B:And she made recordings of her sermons so they were available to purchase on photographic records.
Speaker B: s dedicated on New Year's Day: Speaker B: The temple ceiling featured: Speaker B:And the facade had crushed seashells mixed with a cement to make it sparkle.
Speaker B:Stained glass windows flanked the stage and there was a $22,000 Kimball organ.
Speaker B:But there was also space for nurseries and private areas for classes and prayer.
Speaker B:There was originally a seating capacity for 5,300 when it opened.
Speaker B:At the top of the outside edifice stood a lit cross which would become one of LA's landmarks.
Speaker B:So you ever think of those pictures of Hollywood with a big lit cross on it?
Speaker B:That.
Speaker B:That is Sister Amy's cross.
Speaker A:Dang, yeah.
Speaker B:So leveraging the radio, Amy did broadcast of her sermons, hosted multiple children's hours, offered live music from the Angela's Temple, broadcast organ recitals and announced weekly Sunday school lessons.
Speaker B:So she just had like programming going.
Speaker B:She was a content maker.
Speaker B:She would continue to work to build cross denominational alliances.
Speaker B:She advertised that preachers from the Methodist, Episcopal, United Breth, Baptist, Congregational and Southern Methodist denominations would deliver sermons at the temple.
Speaker B:Those attending the temple who were local to LA were encouraged to leave whatever church or fellowship they belong to and come to the temple instead.
Speaker B:Because there were a lot of roles to be filled on Sundays.
Speaker B:The main event was the illustrated sermon and people would line up around the block to get a seat.
Speaker B:The illustrated sermons grew elaborate, incorporating movie sets, costume changes, live animals and sound and light effects.
Speaker B:And a sermon entitled Arrested for Speeding.
Speaker B:Amy drove up to the Angeles Temple stage on a motorcycle and completed the act fully costumed in a police officer uniform.
Speaker A:Whoa.
Speaker B:In a retelling of a parable about Jesus searching for his Lost flock.
Speaker B:Amy had a fully grown sheep feet brought on stage.
Speaker B:She originally intended to use the small lamb, but the Hollywood movie supplier mistakenly brought the full grown version.
Speaker B:Oops.
Speaker B:It was simply the best show in town.
Speaker B:So the temple's archivist Steve Zeleny to the BBC she would call the construction crew and say I need you to build me a 20 foot Trojan horse that's hollow on the inside.
Speaker B:Or I need you to build me a huge ship.
Speaker B:The bow knees to stick out 20ft.
Speaker B:It needs to have guns on it with smoke coming out.
Speaker B:And these massive sets would often be built in a week.
Speaker B:And Charlie Chaplin was one of her advisors and weird friends.
Speaker B:So she built a house above Lake elsinore which is 90 minutes outside of LA.
Speaker B:That house was inspired by her travels in the Middle east and had a white crenelated roof and a mosaic encrusted dome.
Speaker B:So even her house had a dome on it.
Speaker B:The inside was art deco rooms with beautiful murals and tiled walls and French gorgeous.
Speaker B:And it included though a tunnel from the garage into the house so that Amy could avoid reporters.
Speaker B:She was just getting that famous, right?
Speaker B: During the: Speaker B:You.
Speaker B:It also detailed there will be an all night prayer service.
Speaker B:And on the following Sunday afternoon she planned to lead a massive church meeting followed by a Bible parade through Los Angeles.
Speaker B:Which sounds like a raucous good time.
Speaker B:It's the Bible parade.
Speaker B:Everyone loves that.
Speaker B:So the rally she promised would culminate with a trial and betray the hanging and burial of monkey teachers.
Speaker B:No, sister Evie, no.
Speaker B:So Amy though did become a household name across America.
Speaker B:She continued to politic.
Speaker B:According to the historian Matthew Sutton, quoted by pbs, Amy worked to get a proposition on the upcoming California ballot requiring that a Bible be placed in every single public school classroom in the state.
Speaker B:And she worked for a second anti evolutionary law identical to the one that John Scopes had violated in Tennessee.
Speaker B:So while she's working to get all this stuff passed in the middle of this campaign.
Speaker B: th,: Speaker B:Amy, Mr.
Speaker B:Scheduled Sermon.
Speaker A:Oh.
Speaker B:Soon it would become news to all that Amy was missing and maybe even had drowned this time.
Speaker B:Quoted by the BBC Sentence said a local newspaper even speculated there had been a sea monster sighted off Venice Beach.
Speaker B:They thought maybe the sea monster had swallowed Amy Whole.
Speaker A:That's quite a speculation.
Speaker B:That is quite a sea.
Speaker B:Venice beach sea monster.
Speaker B:It was an itsy bitsy.
Speaker B:What was it?
Speaker A:Whatever.
Speaker B:Whatever that monster was.
Speaker B:So many thought it was a publicity stunt.
Speaker B:And a month goes by and the miracles were answered when Amy appeared in Agua Prieta, Sonora, a Mexican town just south of Douglas, Arizona.
Speaker B:She claimed to have been kidnapped by two men and a woman after falling for a ruse about a sick child in a car while held captive.
Speaker B:She said she was drugged and told that they were going to ransom her for half a million dollars.
Speaker B:But she escaped by sawing through the ropes and crossing 20 miles in the desert.
Speaker B:She returned to a crowd of 50,000 people at the train station, who were also treated to a parade.
Speaker B:And airplanes had dropped roses from the sky.
Speaker A:That's kind of rad.
Speaker B:It is kind of rad.
Speaker B:So however things.
Speaker B:Things would not stay rosy.
Speaker A:See what I did there?
Speaker B:The LA District attorney called for an investigation into the kidnapping.
Speaker B:And Amy would appear before a grand jury.
Speaker B:She would be newspaper fodder as rumors spread that she was having an affair with the engineer of the Christian radio station who disappeared at the same time Amy did.
Speaker B:The engineer acknowledged that he was having an affair, but denied that it was with Amy.
Speaker B:Police went to the cottage that this man had and dusted it for fingerprints and did not find any of Amy's there.
Speaker B:This seems very intrusive.
Speaker A:Like you just do this.
Speaker A:That seems personal.
Speaker B:It seems.
Speaker A:It seems criminal.
Speaker B:It does not seem criminal, but.
Speaker B:So a judge decided to proceed with charges of conspiracy and obstruction of justice against Obstruction of justice against Amy.
Speaker B:And a jury trial was scheduled, but the D. A decided that some of the witnesses were just too unreliable and dropped the charges.
Speaker B:Churches.
Speaker B:So she goes on.
Speaker B:She like opens a commissary at the Angela's Temple, offering food, clothing and blankets.
Speaker B:Just becomes really involved in charity work.
Speaker B:Does a lot of really good stuff.
Speaker B:Then a believer in exploiting current media trend, she embraced Hollywood culture and appeared in newsreels alongside Mary Pickford, Frances Perkins and fdr.
Speaker B:She lost weight, cut and dyed her hair, began to wear makeup and jewelry, and became known for her style as dressed.
Speaker B:She really does because she lists looking really awesome.
Speaker B:But the new looks don't go over well with all of her fans.
Speaker B:Some of you preferred her previous dress of a navy cape over a servant's dress.
Speaker B:I'm not sure what a servant's dress is.
Speaker B:I'm just kind of picturing a.
Speaker B:A nurse's outfit.
Speaker A:Something.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Yep.
Speaker B: re Gospel was incorporated in: Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B: So in: Speaker B: She marries again in: Speaker B:But this marriage only lasts a couple of years as he was frequently photographed with scantily clad women.
Speaker B:Oh, not good.
Speaker B:She has another.
Speaker B: er last revival tour was from: Speaker B:Go, go, go girl.
Speaker B:So after the outbreak of World War II, McPherson rejected the Christian pacifism which was popular within the Pentecostal movement, saying it is the Bible against Mein Kampf.
Speaker B:It is a cross against the swastika.
Speaker B:It is God against the antichrist of Japan.
Speaker B:This is no time for pacifism.
Speaker B:She had opinions the the temple became a symbol of home front sacrifice for the war effort.
Speaker B:Its white dome was painted black and it stained Gl windows covered in anticipation of air rays because they were thinking that LA was going to be hit.
Speaker B:Isn't that crazy?
Speaker A:After yeah, that's crazy to think about.
Speaker B:To advertise the need to conserve gasoline and rubber, Amy drove a horse and buggy to the temple.
Speaker B:She's so extra, just like watch me not, not using any gasoline, using a horse and buggy.
Speaker B: ,: Speaker B: She would be dead by: Speaker B:The autopsy showed a heart attack likely brought on by an overdose of sleeping pills.
Speaker B:Rumors of suicide would of course go round, but most people agreed that it was probably accidental.
Speaker B:45,000 People waited in long line, some until 2am to file pass the evangelist whose body lay in State for three days at the temple.
Speaker B:It later took 11 trucks to transport the $50,000 worth of flowers to the cemetery.
Speaker B:Wow.
Speaker B:And she's buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, California.
Speaker B:And her church is still going pretty strong, huh?
Speaker B:Craziness.
Speaker B:That's sister Amy, faith healer, but she's also just.
Speaker B:They'll call her like the disappearing evangelist because her kidnapping is the reason that most people remember her for being.
Speaker B:Where did I go for a month?
Speaker B:Oh, is this also very gone girl is like the original gone?
Speaker B:You know, like I was kidnapped by many people and they took me to this place and then I had to cross through the desert by myself.
Speaker B:Oh, look at how tired I am.
Speaker B:I'm sure there was like rattlesnakes and everything.
Speaker A:All the things all the things.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:That's wild.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:It's a crazy story.
Speaker A:She might have thrived in the social media era.
Speaker C:She.
Speaker B:I mean, really, she is like the first televangelist before there was a tv.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:So a film evangelist.
Speaker B:You know, an evangelist, but, you know, but she's responsible for why those were almost like those pockets of Christianity, religion, use the media the way they do.
Speaker B:And a lot of.
Speaker B:A lot it started with Sister Amy.
Speaker A:That's why.
Speaker B:And there's tons of.
Speaker B:Tons of.
Speaker B:Tons of films have been made about her, tons of documentaries.
Speaker B:She's been in.
Speaker B:In the Anything Goes, the Cole Porter musical.
Speaker B:There's a character based on her, you know, so there's.
Speaker B:She's just in all sorts of things.
Speaker A:Impressive.
Speaker A:Impressive.
Speaker B:So back to the future.
Speaker B:No, we're not in the future.
Speaker B:We're in the present and.
Speaker B:Or whatever the present was at that time.
Speaker B:I know this is very confusing.
Speaker B:So we're going back to Lucifer.
Speaker B:Watching.
Speaker B:Watching Sister Joe.
Speaker B:That's what I had.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:He watches her do the healing from the back of the hall.
Speaker A:So in the meantime, Sam, Dean and Castiel are now at the crime scene where Lucifer killed Cupid.
Speaker A:And we've got them reading the report that there was.
Speaker A:The victim had blunt object driven through their body and their neck slit.
Speaker A:And they're like, well, that's Lucifer.
Speaker A:He.
Speaker A:He's feeding on grace to restore his power.
Speaker A:And if he does, Dean says, we're boned.
Speaker B:We are boned.
Speaker B:So Lucifer is out sucking grace.
Speaker B:And we go back to the hall where Sister Joe is just counting all her cash.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:But no one's there.
Speaker A:She's counting money by herself.
Speaker A:And I get that.
Speaker A:She's like, obviously we're gonna find out that she's an angel, so she's probably defend herself.
Speaker A:That's just still not good.
Speaker A:Situational awareness and safety.
Speaker A:Even if you can defend yourself, you should have a boat buddy system or do that out of line of sight.
Speaker B:I think so.
Speaker B:So Lucifer comes in and accuses her of being an angel.
Speaker B:And I l specifically.
Speaker B:Is that how we say her name?
Speaker B:I'm gonna say it wrong the whole time.
Speaker B:Probably so.
Speaker B:But she knows he is Lucifer.
Speaker A:And he does this.
Speaker B:Very cute.
Speaker B:What?
Speaker B:No.
Speaker B:Eek.
Speaker B:No.
Speaker B:Spare me, Dark Master.
Speaker B:And she doesn't quake, though, because she's not like Mon most.
Speaker A:And he's like, yeah, you know, I would say that's probably not very heavenly to be healing people for money.
Speaker A:And she's like, look, after the fall, the angels, you know, all the angels were desperate and they were.
Speaker A:Any vessel would do, but I'm smarter than them.
Speaker A:I listened and I heard this woman praying for her dying husband.
Speaker A:So I traded his life for the vessel for her vessel.
Speaker A:And she was grateful.
Speaker A:So I don't know.
Speaker A:And.
Speaker B:And cash rules everything around me.
Speaker B:Dollar, dollar bills, yo.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:And so an excellent businesswoman.
Speaker B:She's an excellent businesswoman because she realized, like, humans will pay anything for their lives, right?
Speaker A:So.
Speaker B:And Lucifer whips out his blade and he starts in about how he's going to suck her grace.
Speaker B:And then she just points out that this isn't cost efficient.
Speaker B:Right?
Speaker B:You can't kill angels, but you can keep one premium angel on tap.
Speaker B:And you can get a little bit now, a little bit later.
Speaker B:And then the angel would have some time to.
Speaker B:To recharge.
Speaker B:And she would rather do that than being sucked dry.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:Because she's a businesswoman.
Speaker A:So Sam has located Tim, the panhandler guy that we met earlier and show Flash this FBI badge and wants to know if he's seen Lucifer.
Speaker A:And he's like, yeah, we had a lovely chat about Sister Joe, the faith healer.
Speaker B:He's gonna fix up his leg as soon as he gets enough money.
Speaker B:Me.
Speaker A:So we cut to Elgin hall, where Lucifer is sucking on annals.
Speaker A:Can we just call her Joe?
Speaker B:Let's call her Joe.
Speaker A:Let's go.
Speaker A:Sister.
Speaker A:Sister Joe's neck.
Speaker A:And.
Speaker A:And he leaves some.
Speaker A:And then, like, it's.
Speaker A:And she's.
Speaker A:She heals it.
Speaker A:And he's like, oh, this is more fun than last time.
Speaker A:And she's like, yeah, I heard about.
Speaker A:I heard about it on angel radio.
Speaker A:It's just really.
Speaker A:This gets gross.
Speaker B:Gross.
Speaker A:That's.
Speaker B:What.
Speaker A:I'm sorry.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:I guess it gets even grosser later.
Speaker B:So.
Speaker B:But she figures out, you know, so the angel that he killed last time, the cupid, was all over angel radio, right?
Speaker B:And he's like, oh, I've got star power.
Speaker B:I can't fight it.
Speaker C:And.
Speaker B:And then she asked.
Speaker B:She's like, wait, who knew you.
Speaker B:Who were gonna be there?
Speaker B:Because this is really kind of loud and out there.
Speaker C:What.
Speaker B:What's happening?
Speaker B:And night has fallen, and the boys and cats pull up, and inside is catch.
Speaker A:Yeah, but not.
Speaker A:No, no Lucifer, no Sister Joe, just Catch waiting for them.
Speaker A:And everybody's annoyed.
Speaker A:And he's like, look, last time I saved your lives and you shot me, so maybe we should be even now.
Speaker A:And they're like, not really.
Speaker A:But they.
Speaker A:Everybody knows that Lucifer's back, and that's.
Speaker A:And that was going to come to this hall, but Now, Catch, his job is to kill him.
Speaker A:Him.
Speaker A:But he won't tell them that he's working for Asmodeus.
Speaker A:At this point, he's just like, oh, don't kid.
Speaker A:I just do it because killing Lucifer is a good thing to do.
Speaker A:And they're like, no.
Speaker A:But he wants to catch, wants to team up.
Speaker A:Huzzah.
Speaker A:As he says.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:And they can share intel, cover more ground.
Speaker B:And Cass just poops him.
Speaker B:And they put him in trunk.
Speaker B:Hi, trunk.
Speaker B:And, and.
Speaker A:And they.
Speaker A:And Dean calls him dick bag.
Speaker B:And so Dean suggests they take him back to the bunker, shoot him and burn his ashes.
Speaker B:And they're all on board with this plan.
Speaker B:However, while this is happening, Sam has found video of Sister Joe, who Cass recognizes as an il, which also looks like anal.
Speaker B:Like when it's spelled out, I'm saying it just.
Speaker B:Just looks.
Speaker B:That's why I was like, yeah, Sister Joe looks better.
Speaker B:But then they're just like, if they killed.
Speaker B:If Lucifer killed her, where is her body?
Speaker A:So they start driving.
Speaker A:And while they're driving, Sam gets an alert on his phone.
Speaker A:This one's a stretch.
Speaker A:Apparently he set it up to get an alert if Sister Joe used her credit card.
Speaker B:I mean, if he could.
Speaker B:He set up.
Speaker B:If he basically set up so the credit card thought the phone was hers.
Speaker B:You know what I mean?
Speaker B:Like, I just got.
Speaker B:I just got up.
Speaker B:I don't know.
Speaker B:It's just like I just got an alert on my phone that my.
Speaker B:My credit card was just used.
Speaker B: But this is also: Speaker B:But yeah, that's.
Speaker A:That would be.
Speaker A: They would have shot this in: Speaker A:I don't know if they were doing that yet, but either way.
Speaker A:So now we get a montage of really cool light up lit signs and neon in the rain.
Speaker A:I don't really see a main purpose this, but it is cool.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:But then we get some weird grace kink that happens.
Speaker A:Yeah, I don't like this scene.
Speaker B:I don't like this scene either.
Speaker B:So we just fast forward through the weird grace kink to the pillow talk.
Speaker B:So they're having pillow talk, and Sister Jo is just amazed that she has lost enough grace that she's starting to feel like a human being.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:And she's starting to feel emotion, sensation, things that humans feel like she's probably like, having.
Speaker B:Is she holding in farts from the man next to her in the bed?
Speaker B:Is that like, what part like, is.
Speaker B:Is she loves being a human being?
Speaker B:Would she love to experience A fart.
Speaker B:Or would she love to experience the embarrassment of having to hold a fart egg next to the person that you just, like, shared grace with?
Speaker B:Which is.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:These are the important questions.
Speaker B:So Lucifer, though, is just like, being a human is gross.
Speaker B:That's gross.
Speaker B:And I don't understand how to keep going.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:But she's like, no, I see their pain, but I also see hope and love.
Speaker A:Angels, you know, don't.
Speaker A:You know, don't really have any imagination, but humans can be anything.
Speaker A:And she is envious of that because upstairs, her job was to just push a button.
Speaker A:That was her job.
Speaker B:Push a button.
Speaker A:No one cared what she thought about how things were.
Speaker A:Run.
Speaker A:Push the button.
Speaker B:Which I. I can understand, like, her frustration, not wanting to do that anymore.
Speaker B:Never.
Speaker B:So.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:So.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:And so the losing of her wings liberated her.
Speaker B:And Lucifer, though, was like, you know, I always just wanted to, you know, fit in and please my father.
Speaker B:But now I'm gonna be a father, and I'm gonna screw it up like he did.
Speaker B:I'm like, really?
Speaker B:You're gonna be a father to Jack?
Speaker B:Sure.
Speaker B:That's gonna happen.
Speaker B:He's like, you know what?
Speaker B:I'm gonna monologue some more.
Speaker B:And he was like, the more Grace I suck, the less I'll feel.
Speaker B:And the more that you'll get the Prince of Darkness, king of lies.
Speaker B:And the fun will start.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:So we have a brief scene where a demon reports to Asmodeus that they have found the prophet, which is probably not great.
Speaker A:So cut to Donatello leaving a chicken place with his bucket of chicken, which is also annoying because why didn't Sam and Dean just stock him up with chicken before they left?
Speaker B:They should have.
Speaker B:They know how many buckets he was gonna go through.
Speaker A:He was very clear about his chicken.
Speaker B:Are you gonna get wing sauce all over the demon tower?
Speaker B:Have, like.
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker A:They didn't look that saucy.
Speaker A:They look just more like fried chicken.
Speaker B:They look kind of dry.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Maybe they're the.
Speaker A:The.
Speaker A:A dry rub as opposed to a sauce.
Speaker A:Anyways, so we.
Speaker A:Castiel's waiting for him.
Speaker A:Or is it?
Speaker C:And.
Speaker A:And they.
Speaker A:Donatello has a very awkward conversation because he's always awkward.
Speaker A:So it is what it is.
Speaker A:But basically, he's saying that his progress is.
Speaker A:He's making progress, but it's slow because the demon tablet is challenging.
Speaker A:And there's.
Speaker A:But there is definitely a spell there to open the door.
Speaker A:It's just got complicated ingredients, and cast is.
Speaker A:Cass, in quotes, is like, oh, I'LL help you with those ingredients.
Speaker A:And.
Speaker A:And Donatello is like, oh, I'm the only one that can read it.
Speaker A:I just hope I can do it in time.
Speaker A:And Cassio's like, what?
Speaker A:Before Michael comes and don't.
Speaker A:Was like, no, before anything happens to Jack or Mary.
Speaker A:And Castiel looks confused by this.
Speaker A:And this is when we.
Speaker A:We suspected.
Speaker A:But now we know that this isn't really Castiel because it's Asmodeus, of course.
Speaker B:Yeah, he switches his voice back to that and he boops Donatello.
Speaker B:So Donatello forgets the conversation and just reminds and wants him to report whatever he finds on the tablet to.
Speaker B:To him.
Speaker A:And then he throws away a piece of chicken for no reason.
Speaker A:Then.
Speaker A:Yeah, rude.
Speaker B:It is rude.
Speaker B:And we just sur.
Speaker B:We hope we get some wing sauce on his suit.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:So we go from there to the Diamond Deluxe Motel where Lucifer and and Sister Joe have been hold up.
Speaker B:And the boys have pulled up because this is where the credit card was tracked to, right?
Speaker A:And Lucifer's laying in bed reading the Bible, commenting on fact checking.
Speaker A:And the room phone rings and it's Sam pretending to be the front desk saying that there's a problem with Joe's credit card and she needs to come down and run it again.
Speaker A:And so as she's coming down to do that, Castiel intercepts her along with Sam and Dean.
Speaker A:And she quickly lets them know that he is in the hotel room and he hasn't heard her yet, but he threatened her and he wants to drain a Grace.
Speaker A:And they ask her if she.
Speaker A:If he is still weak.
Speaker A:And she says very you have to help me.
Speaker B:And Dean's like, she need to help us first.
Speaker B:So she goes to the door of the room and asks Lord Lucifer, can you let me in?
Speaker B:I forgot my key.
Speaker B:And Lucifer opens the door to find everyone and then Cass comes in from.
Speaker A:Behind him and she turns on them and says, they forced me to tell them how weak you are.
Speaker A:And Lucifer takes this moment to compliment Dean's jacket and Sam's hair.
Speaker B:Yes, because Sam's hair is magnificent.
Speaker B:He wants to know if he is using a leave in conditioner.
Speaker B:And since Sam tells Sister Joe just to go get out of here.
Speaker B:And Dean whips out the cuffs and then Joe flings Sam and Lucifer flings Cass and then he flings Dean.
Speaker B:And then he does a squeeze thing to everyone, but he gets interrupted when catch comes in and throws something.
Speaker A:Thing.
Speaker A:Yeah, the.
Speaker A:The demon bomb thing.
Speaker B:The demon bomb that looks like a.
Speaker A:Like a glowing blue football.
Speaker A:That's what it looks like how that thing is.
Speaker B:It's just weird looking and so.
Speaker B:But Lucifer and Sister Joe have popped away.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:So we cut to them, and they're in the woods, and Lucifer is very winded by this exertion of power.
Speaker A:So back at the motel, Catch is like, they vanished before the bomb went off.
Speaker A:Sorry, but you're welcome for saving you.
Speaker A:And they're not impressed.
Speaker A:But there's.
Speaker A:Back in the woods, Lucifer is asking.
Speaker B:Yeah, no, before you get to that.
Speaker B:So in their banter back and forth, there was a really great.
Speaker B:How did you get out of a trunk?
Speaker B:And then he's like, I'm Catch.
Speaker B:And I just thought that was really cute.
Speaker B:So.
Speaker B:And also when Catch says that setting Lucifer free upon the earth is, you know, his is his business, and there is a whole Michael situation, and he's the lesser of at least three evils.
Speaker B:And you can see on Dean's face, and just doing the math is like, who are the evils?
Speaker B:How many other witching war are you?
Speaker B:I'm like, I guess I can kind of put you in there.
Speaker B:And there's.
Speaker B:I just really appreciated that supernatural math.
Speaker B:Okay, so now we go to the woods.
Speaker A:Well, then we're back in the room.
Speaker A:So in the woods is just a brief thing.
Speaker A:It's like, Sister Joe's just like, I help you, you help me.
Speaker C:Me.
Speaker A:And that's.
Speaker A:That's all it is.
Speaker A:But Catch is like, hey, guys, we need to work together.
Speaker A:And by the way, I'm just gonna.
Speaker A:I'm just gonna come out with it.
Speaker A:I'm working for Asmodeus.
Speaker A:I'm telling you this so you'll trust me more.
Speaker A:But if I'm working for him, I can also pass you info.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:So he's gonna be a double agent.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Super sus.
Speaker A:Again.
Speaker A:And he's like, look.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:And that's when he's like, yeah, this is that.
Speaker A:Lucifer of Rearth is my line in the sand for survival, basically.
Speaker A:So that's why I am down to Stop.
Speaker B:Stop this.
Speaker A:I know you want to kill me, though, but I'm going to be useful.
Speaker A:I'm going to be useful.
Speaker A:So Lucifer and NL she takes him to the angel playground portal.
Speaker A:The portal.
Speaker B:Metatron's cube.
Speaker B:The portal to heaven.
Speaker A:Yes.
Speaker A:And he is now appealing to four angels to put past squabbles aside and.
Speaker A:And listen to his offer.
Speaker A:And they're like, kill him.
Speaker A:But he's like, no, no, listen to this first.
Speaker B:I really like the one he said.
Speaker B:They say kill him.
Speaker B:And Lucifer says they can't and one of them just.
Speaker B:The other one who just says, we can try.
Speaker B:Repeatedly.
Speaker B:That was.
Speaker B:That was a really good line.
Speaker A:And he's like, yeah, you.
Speaker A:You can't kill me.
Speaker A:But you have a short supply of angels, and your only defense is in numbers.
Speaker A:With God gone, so you need more angels.
Speaker A:Also, I was there when all of you were born.
Speaker A:So guess what?
Speaker A:I can make more angels.
Speaker A:As long as you name me the undisputed ruler of heaven.
Speaker A:No big.
Speaker A:No big.
Speaker A:That's all.
Speaker A:And they laugh at him.
Speaker A:But either way, he's like, y' all need me.
Speaker A:And by the way, do you want your wings back?
Speaker B:It was crazy.
Speaker B:So he's.
Speaker B:You know, he's told them they're designed to follow him.
Speaker B:And so we're like, oh, no know.
Speaker B:And like angels, they always follow everything.
Speaker B:I see where this is going.
Speaker B:Especially if he says that he can get their wings back.
Speaker B:And speaking of wings.
Speaker B:In the bunker.
Speaker B:In the bunker, Donatello is deep in another bucket.
Speaker A:So many wings.
Speaker B:And it's at this point, it's feral.
Speaker B:It's just feral.
Speaker A:And Sam and Dean and Cassiel are discussing if they can trust catch or not.
Speaker A:And Sam's like, no, but we need him for now.
Speaker A:And that's all there is to it.
Speaker A:And so Dean cocks his gun in response wants.
Speaker A:Which is always funny.
Speaker A:Anyways, so they're like.
Speaker A:They're trying to ask on tell how it's going, and he just, like, yells out.
Speaker B:He's like.
Speaker B:It's like pulling freaking teeth.
Speaker B:And then he calms down, and he just is like, oh, I'm working my way through the ingredients.
Speaker A:He's a little volatile.
Speaker B:Oh, and this makes him.
Speaker B:This makes Sam happy.
Speaker B:That there is Lisa playing plan.
Speaker A:Yes, Sam needs a plan.
Speaker A:But now we cut back to heaven, which, by the way, this heaven is like.
Speaker A:Looks like a sad office, but that's okay.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:And the angels are kneeling.
Speaker A:And who are they kneeling to?
Speaker A:Lucifer.
Speaker B:Yeah, and they're kneeling on this, like, real.
Speaker B:This, like, shitty marble floor.
Speaker B:And I hope they didn't have to do the scene forever.
Speaker B:Or like, someone's like, can I get some of her knee pads?
Speaker B:And then suit the suit, because this is gonna stop having me on my knee for that long.
Speaker B:And then the camera focuses.
Speaker B:Focuses in on Lucifer.
Speaker B:And he says, hail to the king.
Speaker B:And red eyes flash.
Speaker B:And followed by baby, baby.
Speaker B:And you would think this is the end.
Speaker A:No, but it's not.
Speaker A:But it's not, because we've got Catch reporting back to Asmodeus about that he Missed Lucifer by seconds, but he will be found, and as it is, and killed before the Winchesters use him for the gate to the Apocalypse world.
Speaker A:Because Michael is there, and I don't need another stuck an angel or Eric angel with a stick of his ass.
Speaker A:That's what he says.
Speaker B:But yeah.
Speaker A:And the catch is like, yeah, but by the way, Lucifer is getting stronger, and that's not great.
Speaker A:And I won't be able to kill a devil at full power.
Speaker A:So as my like, no worries.
Speaker A:Do you want to know why I was on that special errand that took me away and let them escape?
Speaker A:I was getting this artifact, and he has this dagger.
Speaker A:It looks like.
Speaker A:It looks like an angel blade that got twisted kind of.
Speaker A:Yeah, but it's the Archangel blade.
Speaker B:Oh, is it?
Speaker B:And Catch points out that the lore says that this has to be wielded by an arcane blade.
Speaker C:Angel.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:And as one day I was like, oh, yeah, about that.
Speaker A:We're gonna go to the dungeon because you need to meet who I've got sitting in here.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Gabriel.
Speaker B:Oh, my God, it's Gabriel.
Speaker B:He's back.
Speaker B:It's Gabriel.
Speaker B:And you know, I will tell you, when this came out the first time, I was very just like, oh, my God, Gabriel, you're back.
Speaker B:I love you.
Speaker B:And so Gabriel, as we see him, he has appeared with his mouth.
Speaker B:Mouth sewed shut.
Speaker B:And that is a reference to the North Norse trickster God Loki, who similarly had his mouth sewed shut by the dwarf Broker after losing a wager.
Speaker B:And Gabriel had.
Speaker B:Had assumed the identity of Loki after escaping from heaven.
Speaker B:So, okay.
Speaker B:A reference to some mythology, according to the wiki.
Speaker B:So, all right, I, I, I.
Speaker B:You're gonna talk about him making funny noises there about who, who this cast was.
Speaker B:So, I mean, obviously, I just go.
Speaker A:Through them and then we'll.
Speaker B:I'll make that noise again.
Speaker A:Casting couch.
Speaker C:It's the casting couch.
Speaker C:Were they on that show that time with that guy?
Speaker A:La la, la, la, la, la.
Speaker A:All right, so our cast in this episode, we're going to start with, of course, Nal, or Sister Joe, as we prefer to call her.
Speaker B:We prefer that.
Speaker B:We prefer that term because not.
Speaker A:Yes, the one and only Daniel A. Ackles.
Speaker A:I'm gonna say it wrong now.
Speaker A:Jesus.
Speaker A:I know her name.
Speaker B:Just call her Danny.
Speaker A:Yeah, Danny Ackles.
Speaker A:So this is Jensen's wife.
Speaker A:Yeah, which is awesome.
Speaker A:And we have seen her in episodes of Charmed, csi, ncis, and How I Met yout Mother.
Speaker A:She was Vanessa in several Harold and Kumar movies, including the Guantanamo Bay Amsterdam and Christmas ones.
Speaker A:She is also Rachel on One Tree Hill for over 50 episodes of that and was Olivia in the movie the Backup Plan.
Speaker A:And now she married to Jensen and.
Speaker B:Has a family, a production company and other things.
Speaker B:And is an influencer and is a million bazillion other things.
Speaker B:Correct.
Speaker A:And then our angel Duma with attitude.
Speaker A:She is played by Erica Sarah.
Speaker A: She's been in episodes of: Speaker A:She was the goth vixen wannabe in Blackblade, Trinity.
Speaker A:And I just appreciate that, Todd, you.
Speaker B:Know, like, that is the next character I would like to play, please.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A: the Power Rangers movie from: Speaker A:Tim, our panhandler was played by Neil Webb, who got got ripped if you look at his IMDb profile.
Speaker A:By the way, he's been episodes of Izombie, Wynonna Earp, the Magicians, the Flash, Peacemaker, Fire country and Tracker.
Speaker A:So, yeah, that's the main folks from our cast this week.
Speaker A:So exciting.
Speaker A:This was some big happening in this episode.
Speaker B:There was.
Speaker B:And there's a lot of things that happened and some of them are gross and some of them were funny and so.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:What did you think?
Speaker A:I. I found it.
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker A:I. I will tell you.
Speaker A:When I watched the episode and I saw the angels, well, first of all, I was glad Castiel got back to them.
Speaker A:And then Donatello irritated me for being a dumb, dumb.
Speaker A:But getting fooled by the fake Castiel.
Speaker A:And then the angels with that just like gave in real quick to Lucifer.
Speaker A:I was pissed when I watched like this stupid.
Speaker A:And then like, okay, well, I kind of like afterwards I was like, okay, it's fine.
Speaker A:You know, I get it.
Speaker A:I get what the story is going well.
Speaker A:I don't know what's gonna happen, but I get where they're going with the storyline at least.
Speaker A:I'm also excited about.
Speaker A:But I'm excited about Gabriel.
Speaker A:So there's a roller coaster.
Speaker A:It was a roller coaster of emotions.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:So.
Speaker B:And then bringing Gabriel back, I think is always is a huge thing.
Speaker B:But it's like, how many times can you die, man?
Speaker B:But you know, but personal.
Speaker B:I was like personal friends with respect, you know, I'm not personal friends with Richard Spade, but it would be.
Speaker B:There are.
Speaker B:I do have many pictures with him.
Speaker B:So I'm just saying.
Speaker B:But yeah, it's always exciting to See him come back.
Speaker B:It is not exciting to see.
Speaker B:That mouth thing is very disturbing.
Speaker B:I don't like it.
Speaker A:The so shut mouth.
Speaker B:The so mouth.
Speaker B:The mouth sewed shut thing.
Speaker B:I don't know.
Speaker B:Like, whenever I see that effect, it really, really bothers me.
Speaker B:I don't know why.
Speaker B:Just as a tour.
Speaker B:An instrument of torture, that idea of the.
Speaker B:The needle going through lips is just something that maybe in some past life, I was like, that was the witch torture I got.
Speaker B:I could see that happening, you know.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:So anyways, but beyond that, you know, that's all that was.
Speaker B:And again, like I said, like, it seemed like that should.
Speaker B:There was the episode already ended.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker B:So much had already happened, and we already kind of gone through the end of Act 5.
Speaker B:We'd had, you know, the, oh, you know, thing and come down, you know, the whole Lucifer thing.
Speaker B:That seems like.
Speaker B:And I almost.
Speaker B:Yeah, I.
Speaker A:That's not.
Speaker B:I almost kind of wish they were split into two different episodes, you know,.
Speaker A:Like, maybe carry this over to start the next episode.
Speaker B:But you couldn't, because they wanted, you know, they wanted to have the surprise.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:But they also wanted to have the.
Speaker B:The Hail to the King part.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker A:I feel like the Hail to the King thing is something that wasn't.
Speaker A:I feel like that's obviously, like, a reference that's been made before about, you know, it's a line that gets quoted, and I feel like it almost took away from it because you think that's the end and that's like a Hail the King, baby.
Speaker A:Like, oh, great.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:And then.
Speaker A:And like, it's all also, like, you also hear it wasn't an army of darkness too.
Speaker B:Yes, it was an army of darkness.
Speaker B:It was ashes line.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:And then.
Speaker A:But so, like, you feel like that's like a really good ending right there, right?
Speaker A:Like, oh, you end on that line and boom.
Speaker A:You know.
Speaker A:But no, there's more, which is kind of cool, but also, like, I feel like it took away from it a little bit.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:They were both two things.
Speaker B:And the first one was.
Speaker B:Was really.
Speaker B:You could have ended it on that.
Speaker B:But I get it like, that you had to.
Speaker B:I don't know, maybe you space this out so this ends another episode.
Speaker B:Could have.
Speaker B:You could have had the Gabriel stuff ended on last episode, probably.
Speaker B:I think you could have made it work as what I would have done.
Speaker B:I would have been to the last episode.
Speaker B:Well, that was the Rowena one, but I would have figured out a way to make that work.
Speaker A:Yeah, it was a big one, two punch to end with.
Speaker A:Yeah, but I don't know.
Speaker A:Interesting.
Speaker A:And we're like, what?
Speaker A:Just barely passed the halfway point for the season, so that's crazy.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:So it's thirteen.
Speaker B:Thirteen.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:Ten more episodes.
Speaker A:It seems like a big one, too.
Speaker A:Like, big, big.
Speaker A:Like, big.
Speaker A:Info drops pretty early in the season, arguably.
Speaker A:I know it's not gonna work the halfway, but that seems a little early.
Speaker A:It's interesting.
Speaker A:We got a lot to wrap up, though, in 10 episodes, so here we go.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:And.
Speaker B:Yeah, I just really don't like the gray suckage.
Speaker A:No, it's very uncomfortable.
Speaker B:I don't know why it's so uncomfortable.
Speaker B:I mean, it's like.
Speaker B:I don't get that.
Speaker B:I'm not that uncomfortable in a vampire suckage either.
Speaker A:That's why I thought it was weird.
Speaker A:That's what I was trying to say.
Speaker A:It's like a vampire, but they.
Speaker A:Sometimes they made it ickier.
Speaker B:It's.
Speaker B:Yeah, it's worse.
Speaker B:I don't know why.
Speaker B:It just.
Speaker B:It bothers me.
Speaker B:I'm not a prude, and it bothers me.
Speaker B:That's.
Speaker A:That's a lot for that.
Speaker A:For that to bother you.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:Suck it on.
Speaker B:Your grace, man.
Speaker B:It's gross.
Speaker A:Well, I think it's like, they react about it that makes it icky and.
Speaker B:Then, like, getting kind of orgasmy about it, but then, like, I don't know.
Speaker B:I don't like it.
Speaker A:No, it makes me uncomfortable.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:All right.
Speaker B:I think that makes me uncomfortable is a good note to end this on.
Speaker B:All right.
Speaker B:Cheers.
Speaker B:Jerk.
Speaker A:Cheers.
