Speaker:

Hey everybody.

2

:

Welcome to Monday's edition

of the Daily Bible podcast.

3

:

Happy February.

4

:

Happy February.

5

:

We're a day late though.

6

:

And a dollar short.

7

:

But nonetheless, we're

still gonna offer it to you.

8

:

We hope your February's

going great so far.

9

:

This is one of those special

Februarys where I believe it starts.

10

:

So it's Monday the first, and then I

think it ends on SA Sunday, the 28th.

11

:

28th.

12

:

It's almost like a perfect month.

13

:

It equally divides itself into four weeks.

14

:

It's beautiful.

15

:

Yeah.

16

:

Yeah.

17

:

Football Sundays,

seventh, 14th, 21st, 28th.

18

:

Oh.

19

:

And then March will be the same.

20

:

Well, isn't the Super Bowl soon?

21

:

Who's doing that?

22

:

The Super Bowl.

23

:

Yeah.

24

:

Is this coming Sunday?

25

:

Oh, and it That's cool.

26

:

Is the Seahawks against the Patriots?

27

:

Oh, I've heard of both

of those teams before.

28

:

Yes.

29

:

Those guys are both pretty good.

30

:

They come up here pretty regularly.

31

:

They do.

32

:

They do.

33

:

It's been a little while, but yeah.

34

:

And.

35

:

The scripting of the NFL

apparently has tipped its hat.

36

:

They told you that this was gonna happen

earlier in the year, as I understand it.

37

:

Yes.

38

:

There was a graphic that was put out.

39

:

Yeah.

40

:

And it was all of the star players from

all the teams looking at the stadium.

41

:

Yeah.

42

:

Where the Super Bowl's gonna be held.

43

:

And the two at the very front of that

line were the two starting quarterbacks

44

:

of these two Super Bowl teams.

45

:

Wow.

46

:

And they're the two starting

quarterbacks of these particular teams.

47

:

So it's not like they were traded.

48

:

Right.

49

:

And it's like a surprise.

50

:

So what are the odds of that happening?

51

:

If you are an NFL, I don't know.

52

:

You're on the marketing team

and you're trying to tell

53

:

people this thing is scripted.

54

:

That seems like a pretty

good way to do it.

55

:

I can't deny that I am with you on that.

56

:

The odds are just almost

impossible, right?

57

:

They are.

58

:

Well, I'm sure someone has done the math.

59

:

What would the math be?

60

:

How many teams are there?

61

:

50, 32.

62

:

Okay.

63

:

I guess.

64

:

Okay.

65

:

That's actually a lesser

number than I thought.

66

:

So two outta 32.

67

:

And what are the odds at.

68

:

Both of those teams somewhat.

69

:

Pull it up on the GPT,

ask it to do the math.

70

:

What's the odd, I don't know how

to, I don't know how to ask that.

71

:

It'll just interpret your

under, it'll interpret you.

72

:

Well just try to ask it in a way that

makes sense in the common vernacular, and

73

:

I'm sure it'll give you a good answer.

74

:

Yeah, I'm not gonna do that.

75

:

Okay.

76

:

Well, my only point, you're not doing it.

77

:

No.

78

:

My only point is that the

odds are probably low.

79

:

No I'm with you on that.

80

:

It's crazy.

81

:

I think there's a lot of things that

if we knew all of the behind the

82

:

scenes stuff, we let the air out of

some of the things that we look at.

83

:

And we're like, oh, I'm in.

84

:

I love watching baseball.

85

:

I love watching football

and the excitement.

86

:

And if we knew that, I wouldn't be

surprised if there were decisions

87

:

made by referees to try to sway

the out outcomes of things.

88

:

And, yeah.

89

:

Well, I don't know how

this is gonna hit you.

90

:

Okay.

91

:

I found out, don't hit

me not too long ago.

92

:

That wrestling is fake.

93

:

What?

94

:

Yeah.

95

:

Did Angelo tell you?

96

:

No, no, no.

97

:

My friend did not tell me.

98

:

Okay.

99

:

No.

100

:

I always called Colgan recently died.

101

:

I heard that too.

102

:

He did die.

103

:

And that's when I found out.

104

:

Yeah.

105

:

Never been the same.

106

:

Not only is the Super Bowl

coming up, but we are sending

107

:

people back out by the moon.

108

:

Again, did you hear about that?

109

:

Did not.

110

:

So Artemis Two's mission to the

moon, so this is SpaceX I believe,

111

:

and they're not landing on the

moon, but they're going out.

112

:

I believe they're gonna

orbit and come back.

113

:

And so this is kind of a big deal

because it's been since the:

114

:

that we've sent a manned mission, even

in relative proximity to the moon.

115

:

And I believe this is going to go

further out as a manned flight than

116

:

we've ever had any manned flight before.

117

:

So.

118

:

This is a a That's pretty cool.

119

:

A big arc around the moon.

120

:

Didn't Apollo 13 though?

121

:

Didn't they do the

slingshot around the moon?

122

:

They orbited?

123

:

Yeah, but I think they're,

this one's going out further.

124

:

Oh, okay.

125

:

And so, but how many mile, like

a mile or two or, yeah, I know.

126

:

13 inches.

127

:

Yes.

128

:

We got 13.

129

:

We're the best guys.

130

:

Well, in Apollo 13 was, they had to do

that because the failure of all their

131

:

systems and stuff, they had to use the

moon's gravity to slingshot them back.

132

:

This is, we're doing this on purpose.

133

:

Okay.

134

:

So, alright.

135

:

That's, that's great.

136

:

And I think it's in preparation

because we want to try to

137

:

put people back on the moon.

138

:

Well, I thought Mars was

the goal to colonize Mars.

139

:

Isn't that Elon?

140

:

That's part of it.

141

:

Yeah.

142

:

And Pastor Mark said once there, I think

he said once there's like 50 people

143

:

up there, then he's willing to go.

144

:

Wow.

145

:

So that's his standard.

146

:

He's pioneering.

147

:

He wants Compass, Bible Church.

148

:

Church, Mars.

149

:

All right.

150

:

All right.

151

:

So anyways, that's kind of fascinating

to think about people going to outer

152

:

space and being by the moon again.

153

:

That would be pretty cool.

154

:

Some of you're listening going,

you mean for the first time?

155

:

Because they don't believe that

we actually did land on the moon.

156

:

Ooh.

157

:

That's another conspiracy

theory for another day.

158

:

It is.

159

:

Yeah.

160

:

That it is.

161

:

Bernard: One of the fine editors of this

podcast is too much of a nerd not to

162

:

insert some corrections and trivia here.

163

:

Artemis 2 is a NASA mission designed

to loop around the Moon without

164

:

landing, similar to Apollo 8.

165

:

It plans to travel approximately one to

two thousand miles farther from Earth than

166

:

any previous crewed mission, which would

surpass the current record held by Apollo

167

:

13 during its emergency return trajectory.

168

:

Nice to see y'all again.

169

:

But back to the Daily Bible Podcast...

170

:

Well, hey, we did get a question

that we should probably address Sure.

171

:

From one of our listeners who wanted

to address one of the laws given in

172

:

the Old Testament that talked about

what happens when a man we'll put it.

173

:

As PG is, we can't takes advantage

of a virgin who's not his wife.

174

:

Well, the word is seduces.

175

:

That's an important word.

176

:

Seduces.

177

:

Okay.

178

:

Yeah.

179

:

Seduces a virgin who's not his wife.

180

:

Exodus 22 verses 16 and 17.

181

:

Thank you.

182

:

Yeah.

183

:

I was looking for the context and

so the question is, scripture then

184

:

gives permission for this man to

marry this woman, or if the father of

185

:

this woman denies that, then there's

other prohibitions given there.

186

:

And so the question is how is this right?

187

:

How is this fair?

188

:

This should be punished.

189

:

Was the questioners.

190

:

Stance on this?

191

:

To add to that, let me just clarify.

192

:

Yeah.

193

:

It seems wrong.

194

:

And yet it's a law.

195

:

So it's a law.

196

:

It's on the books.

197

:

It's not just God saying, Hey I

need to warn you about this.

198

:

God is providing.

199

:

A governing law to say this

is what's gonna happen.

200

:

And he also says it could cause

someone to our word, a young maiden.

201

:

A virgin, yes.

202

:

Yes.

203

:

To get her to be his wife.

204

:

So it's like, oh, you're

rewarded by having, yeah.

205

:

You got what you wanted.

206

:

Now you're gonna get it forever.

207

:

It seems like it endorses something evil.

208

:

Yeah.

209

:

And you brought up the word

seduces is important there.

210

:

Because this seems to imply that

this is more of a consensual

211

:

act than it is a forceful act.

212

:

And as a result, this would be two

people who it would appear want to be

213

:

together who would then be encouraged

to go ahead and get married, do

214

:

the thing that is right, then buy

them unless verse 17 of her father.

215

:

Utterly refuses to give her to him.

216

:

He shall pay money equal to the

bride price for the daughter.

217

:

So that's making things right, as

far as her honor is concerned in the

218

:

eyes of her fa family and her father.

219

:

But I think one of the reasons why he.

220

:

It is encouraged, they are

encouraged to get married is for

221

:

the good of that relationship and

the honor that's involved there.

222

:

This is the young woman, yeah.

223

:

Honor, shame culture.

224

:

So she would've been ashamed

had they not gotten married.

225

:

And so this is the right thing to do.

226

:

This is not condoning the

act of premarital before

227

:

the act of getting married.

228

:

But this is saying, this is what's

right to do afterwards and this

229

:

is what you should do unless the

man, the woman's father says,

230

:

no, I'm not gonna allow for this.

231

:

And then there's a provision

given for that as well.

232

:

Yeah, you might remember in

two Samuel 13 where Amon lays

233

:

with his half-sister Tamar.

234

:

He's in love with.

235

:

Her love lust is probably more

a better way to talk about that.

236

:

And eventually he he does what he intends

to do with her, and so she's wrecked,

237

:

but then he's like, Hey, get outta here.

238

:

And she's like, no.

239

:

That would be sitting against

me worse than the first thing.

240

:

Mm-hmm.

241

:

Don't compound this.

242

:

Mm-hmm.

243

:

In other words I'm yours now.

244

:

To stay with you is better than to be

rejected because now I can't remarry.

245

:

No one's gonna ever, it's

gonna be found out everybody.

246

:

Well, no, I can't remarry.

247

:

I'm gonna be stuck at home

for the rest of my life.

248

:

Single and unable to

leave my parents home.

249

:

We talked yesterday in the

podcast about polygamy.

250

:

Mm-hmm.

251

:

And how polygamy and my estimation

was something that God said,

252

:

this is a necessary evil for

sufficient good that God determines.

253

:

And in that case, it'd be protecting

women the most vulnerable.

254

:

We don't want her to become a prostitute.

255

:

We don't want her to become a slave.

256

:

The best thing.

257

:

In all the evil options is this.

258

:

And so here this is a text that again,

adds parameters for her protection and

259

:

not for the protection of the fellow.

260

:

This is not to reward him,

this is to protect her.

261

:

Yep.

262

:

And the emphasis is important.

263

:

You can't read that because all you see is

the black and white text, but you have to

264

:

think, okay, what's the heart of God here?

265

:

God is for protecting his people

upholding justice, and this is

266

:

one of the ways that he does this.

267

:

This is not endorse the R word.

268

:

This is the opposite of that.

269

:

In fact, later on, Moses is

gonna talk about the R word.

270

:

This I agree with you,

is a consensual act.

271

:

At least it's suggested.

272

:

So because it's seduction.

273

:

Mm-hmm.

274

:

Now one is ex still exercising a

certain level of power over the other,

275

:

but there's still a sense of, okay,

I willingly concede to this thing.

276

:

Yeah.

277

:

Yep.

278

:

Good question.

279

:

Good reading and being atten

attentive to some of these things.

280

:

Feel free to write in your

questions to podcast@compassntx.org.

281

:

Well, let's keep going.

282

:

In our daily Bible reading, we are in

Exodus 29 through 30 today, so we have

283

:

seen yesterday the priestly garments,

which Pastor Rod is working on my turban,

284

:

I believe, in his free time at home.

285

:

Yeah.

286

:

I'm getting a great design.

287

:

Awesome.

288

:

I'm gonna put all of our faces on it.

289

:

Cool.

290

:

Hidden.

291

:

That's great.

292

:

Pretty great.

293

:

That's awesome.

294

:

Yeah.

295

:

I've already started thinking about

your ornament for this coming year.

296

:

Okay.

297

:

For Christmas.

298

:

It's gonna be great.

299

:

Listen, but the people are clamoring for

a Pastor Rod version of the ornament.

300

:

The staff may come and go.

301

:

The everyone here is

replaceable except for you.

302

:

That's not true.

303

:

So I think it makes a lot more

sense to do ornaments of Pastor PJ's

304

:

head larger and larger each year.

305

:

I think if you guys want to see Pastor

Rod on the ornament this year, you should

306

:

write in to podcast@compassantix.org.

307

:

I will automatically

send those to the trash.

308

:

I get to make the decisions here so.

309

:

If you really wanna plead for it

I'll let you do that in person.

310

:

I wanna see tears.

311

:

Yeah, I wanna see, I wanna see clothing.

312

:

They want it's like action figures.

313

:

They want like, the set of collectibles.

314

:

Oh, I see.

315

:

That's not the way, like I

grew up with Ninja Turtles.

316

:

If all I got was Leonardo

over and over and over again.

317

:

Even though he was my

favorite I wouldn't be happy.

318

:

I would be like, man,

I need the other guys.

319

:

Yeah.

320

:

But see, there was always

four Ninja Turtles though.

321

:

Yeah.

322

:

Here, you never know.

323

:

There could be seven Ninja Turtles by

the end of this year, but people could be

324

:

like, we've been here since the days of

Pastor p and Pastor Rob and Pastor Mark.

325

:

I don't know.

326

:

Let us carry on to the text.

327

:

Alright, let's go.

328

:

29 Consecration of the

Priest consecration is.

329

:

The concept of setting apart

again, it's to be made holy.

330

:

It's from a word that means to cut,

and so they are being removed, cut

331

:

apart, separated from the masses.

332

:

And this is of the priest because

they have a unique role that they

333

:

need to be set apart to do in.

334

:

Service of the Lord.

335

:

So part of that's gonna

involve these offerings.

336

:

And the key offering here is

gonna be the sin offering.

337

:

Talking about the bowl that's gonna

be brought before the 10th of meeting.

338

:

There's gonna be Aaron and his

sons laying their hands on the

339

:

bowl, on the head of the bowl then

Moses is going to kill the bull.

340

:

Now, later on, the priest are gonna do

this, but this is for the priest, so he's

341

:

gonna be the one that's gonna do this.

342

:

And there's gonna be a

lot to do with the blood.

343

:

Now, one of the things that's gonna

happen with the blood is something

344

:

that always used to trip me up until

I heard somebody explain it to me.

345

:

But verse 19 and 20, you

should take the other rams.

346

:

So there's bowls that are offered,

there's rams that are also offered

347

:

as well, and one of the rams, they're

gonna kill, they're gonna take the

348

:

blood of the ram, they're gonna

put it on the tip of the right.

349

:

Ear of Aaron and on the tips of the

ears of his sons and on the thumbs

350

:

of the right hands and on the great

toes, the big toe of the right feet.

351

:

And I used to think, what is this?

352

:

And then it was explained to me, this is

them being consecrated in what they hear,

353

:

in what they do and in where they go.

354

:

So this is, hey.

355

:

Everything that you are needs

to be set apart for the Lord.

356

:

The things that you take in

your ear, what you hear, you

357

:

are to be holy in those things.

358

:

The things that you do, your right

hand, the things that, that are gonna

359

:

be done with your hands, you need to be

holy in what you do and where you go.

360

:

The toe of your right foot

is gonna be consecrated as

361

:

well set apart for the Lord.

362

:

Where you go is to be holy to the Lord.

363

:

So this is a way of sending them

all apart, their whole body to

364

:

say, you now belong to the Lord.

365

:

And you might think too, that this is.

366

:

Really cool symbolism for these

Old Testament guys who are priests.

367

:

I think that this is an easy copy and

not a full copy and paste, but a copy

368

:

and paste is New Testament Christians.

369

:

We are called kings and priests,

Queens and priestesses, I suppose.

370

:

But we are now set apart by the spirit.

371

:

We have a greater and better covenant

than what these guys enjoyed.

372

:

As privileged as their position is, you

and I get to go to the holies of Holies.

373

:

Anytime we want that, we have full.

374

:

Unmitigated access because

of our relationship to God

375

:

through Christ, by his spirit.

376

:

And so if it applied to them

under the ministry of Moses.

377

:

How much more does your

consecration apply to you?

378

:

Under the ministry of Christ,

we have a better house, a

379

:

better Moses, a better covenant.

380

:

We ought to do the same and take

great caution and care about how we

381

:

live in consecration to the Lord.

382

:

There's other offerings that are gonna

be involved here, including a food

383

:

offering in verse 25 and verse 26.

384

:

Part of this is gonna be a wave

offering that's going to be offered.

385

:

There's prescriptions for what they're

to do during this ordination process

386

:

where Aaron and his sons are instructed

on what they should eat and what they

387

:

should, how they should go about this.

388

:

And then there's the time period

and it says this, that you, thus

389

:

you shall do to Aaron and his sons.

390

:

Verse 35, according to all that,

have commanded you through seven

391

:

days, shall you ordain them.

392

:

Every day you shall offer

a bowl as a sin offering.

393

:

They're also offering two lambs a day.

394

:

So this is quite the ordeal.

395

:

This is quite the bloody encounter

here that they're gonna have

396

:

with this sanctification process.

397

:

And yet ultimately it's gonna be God

that is going to sanctify the people.

398

:

And so even though he's laying out

all of these things, if you look over

399

:

at verse 42, it says it shall be a

regular burnt offering throughout your

400

:

generations at the entrance of the

tenant meeting before the Lord where.

401

:

I will meet with you to

speak with you there.

402

:

There I will meet with the

people of Israel and it shall

403

:

be sanctified by my glory.

404

:

I will consecrate the

10 meeting in the altar.

405

:

And so all of this is symbolic,

representing the fact that this

406

:

is God setting Israel apart,

setting Aaron in his sons apart.

407

:

This is them doing this and God is the

one acting here and verse 45 is critical.

408

:

Here I will dwell among the people

of Israel and will be their God.

409

:

The whole purpose of all

of these things was that.

410

:

So a sinful people could be in

communion with their holy God.

411

:

All of this rigor.

412

:

A roll.

413

:

All this pomp and circumstance, all of

these blood, these awful, violent, bloody

414

:

affairs are meant to unite the people

with God and the whole stumbling block

415

:

between them and God was their sin.

416

:

And so all of these things are

meant to be pictures to the people

417

:

to say, this is how we relate to

each other, because of your sin.

418

:

Now it needs to be bloodshed

so that I can dwell with you.

419

:

This is the goal of all of

these sacrifices, and that is

420

:

the goal of Christ's sacrifice.

421

:

He was crucified, he was slain so that we

could dwell with God and he dwell with us.

422

:

Revelation 21 is gonna show us

how this all comes together.

423

:

It culminates.

424

:

Where God himself dwells with us

and we are his people, and God

425

:

Himself will be with us as our God.

426

:

That's the goal of this

whole thing, the whole Bible.

427

:

Genesis two revelation is about

God dwelling with us once again as

428

:

he did in the garden through the

ministry of Jesus Christ, and he

429

:

does this to the glory of his name.

430

:

This is an awesome book, as challenging

as Exodus is, and Leviticus will also be

431

:

challenging for some of the same reasons.

432

:

You have to remember the goal here, the

end goal is God dwelling with his people.

433

:

So chapter 30, then we get

into more of the process here,

434

:

including the altar of incense.

435

:

We've got the census tax that he's gonna

talk about there of charging people and

436

:

how that's gonna be used for the care

of things and the upkeep of things.

437

:

Different components.

438

:

The sleep significance of washing,

which was a big deal if you didn't wash.

439

:

It's not just that you didn't eat you,

you don't wash you, you're gonna die.

440

:

So maybe.

441

:

Parents, you want to say to your kids if

you're saying, Hey, go wash your hands,

442

:

you could say, you could have it worse.

443

:

You could be, Hey, wash your hands.

444

:

Or there's worse consequences.

445

:

Chapter 30 here, he's gonna

talk about this multiple times.

446

:

The aroma.

447

:

Do you think the aroma is more for the

benefit of God or do you think the aroma

448

:

of these things is for the benefit of men?

449

:

Benefit as in, well, you can't

benefit God in any sense.

450

:

Right.

451

:

Is God smelling?

452

:

Because we talk about the fact that God

doesn't have, he doesn't have olfactory

453

:

glands and like that olfactory glands.

454

:

Yeah.

455

:

He's not a human.

456

:

But I would argue that God can sense

even if he doesn't have the sense of

457

:

smell like we have, I, I would, it would

be impossible for me to say that God

458

:

doesn't have the ability to smell even

if he doesn't have the nose to smell.

459

:

Does that make sense?

460

:

Mm-hmm.

461

:

So if perception.

462

:

For us is five senses.

463

:

I would have to say God has five

ways, 5 billion ways to sense.

464

:

Mm-hmm.

465

:

Without having our specific channels.

466

:

Mm-hmm.

467

:

Or tools for those things.

468

:

So does God have eyes?

469

:

No.

470

:

But he sees everything.

471

:

Does God have ears?

472

:

Nobody hears everything.

473

:

Does God have a nose?

474

:

Nobody smells everything.

475

:

So I'd have to say yes, I think

God has benefited, blessed, I guess

476

:

is a better word, maybe blessed.

477

:

I would say that one that

feels better than benefited.

478

:

'cause I can't add anything

to God, but I can't bless him.

479

:

I can't do good to him by

saying, here's the smell.

480

:

And I think God is pleased by that.

481

:

Yeah.

482

:

Again we've got these other elements here

of these components that are gonna go into

483

:

what's gonna happen in the construction,

which is where we're gonna turn tomorrow

484

:

with Oab and Beel and the beginning

of the work on this, which is great.

485

:

I love the story of these two guys, and

we'll talk more about that tomorrow.

486

:

But let's jump over to

our New Testament reading.

487

:

Matthew chapter 22 verses one through 22.

488

:

So Matthew 22, 1 through 22, we get

Jesus continuing to talk about parables

489

:

and he's really turning the heat up.

490

:

I mentioned yesterday he told

this parable about the tenants and

491

:

the parable about the two sons.

492

:

He's gonna continue with the

parable of the wedding feast.

493

:

And this is the king going out

and inviting people to come

494

:

to the wedding of his son.

495

:

And initially those that are invited

are going to turn down the invitation,

496

:

sorry, we're too busy, we can't be there.

497

:

We've got other things going on.

498

:

And so then after this, the king is

gonna say, okay then go out, go to

499

:

the highways, go to the byways, invite

everyone that you possibly can to

500

:

come and be a part of the wedding.

501

:

And so the servants are going to go do

that and instead those that were first

502

:

invited are going to be turned away.

503

:

They're going to be rejected.

504

:

So this is such an interesting parable,

including when the king shows up, there's

505

:

a man there who has no wedding garment.

506

:

And my best read on this is even though

the invitation was gonna go out far

507

:

and wide and go beyond Israel, there

was still going to be requirements.

508

:

There was still a standard and there

was still gonna be a necessary entrance.

509

:

Qualifications, so to

speak, into the wedding.

510

:

And this for us as the church we

understand is faith and repentance.

511

:

And so even though the car's, the call's

gonna be issued far and wide, it's gonna

512

:

be much broader than just to Israel.

513

:

There still is a qualification

to attend this wedding feast.

514

:

To be part of the kingdom of God, you

have to be dressed in the right garments.

515

:

And I think that's what's going on with

this man who doesn't have the garment.

516

:

The wedding garment there at the end.

517

:

Amen to that.

518

:

It seems like in verse 13 here

that because he's not dressed

519

:

appropriately, because he is not

qualified to be there, the result is

520

:

not just, Hey buddy, you gotta leave.

521

:

It is tossing him out into a place

where there's weeping and gnashing

522

:

of teeth, and this is typical

language for the reality of hell,

523

:

which has been in the news lately.

524

:

We, maybe we should talk

about that one again soon.

525

:

Kurt Cameron had brought friends

on the thing and other people

526

:

have responded to this anyway.

527

:

This is language for hell, and so this.

528

:

Wedding garments is more than

just, are you fashionably dressed?

529

:

This is, are you qualified to be here?

530

:

So I hope I'm not stretching it too much.

531

:

I think knowing what we know about the

New Testament, we're gonna say that

532

:

it's not just that you have to be in

the church, you have to be dressed

533

:

in Christ's righteousness, right?

534

:

You can't just show up to a Sundays and

say, Hey, I'm here, Lord I'm part of this.

535

:

And he's gonna say, well,

how did you get, like, why?

536

:

Why are you here?

537

:

This isn't fitting for you because

you're not dressed right and it has

538

:

nothing to do with what you wear.

539

:

It has everything to do

with where you trust.

540

:

Your salvation to lie.

541

:

And if you're dressed in the righteousness

of Christ, you are now qualified by

542

:

his grace to stand before him fully and

freely blameless of any sin and shame.

543

:

And that's what makes us right with God.

544

:

It is Jesus righteousness.

545

:

And so in verse 14, many

are called fewer chosen.

546

:

The gospel call goes to all people at

all places but only those who embrace

547

:

the righteousness of Christ by clo,

by being clothed with him are truly

548

:

those who are going to see heaven.

549

:

From this the Pharisees, they go out

and they continue their attack on Christ

550

:

and their plot to try to trap him.

551

:

And so they ask him this question

about paying taxes, will you encourage

552

:

us to, to pay taxes to Caesar or not?

553

:

And they're partnering with the

Herodians, which is an uncommon bond here.

554

:

And yet they can both unite, I

guess over their disdain for Jesus.

555

:

In what he's doing.

556

:

And so is it lawful to pay

taxes to Caesar or not?

557

:

And Jesus aware of what's going on

here says, oh, why put me to the test?

558

:

You hypocrites, show me the coin.

559

:

And this where he says,

whose likeness is on it?

560

:

And they say, it's Caesar's.

561

:

And then he says, therefore, render

to Caesar the things that are Caesar's

562

:

and to God, the things that are God.

563

:

So it's almost as though

Jesus is like, yeah, fine.

564

:

Give Caesar his coins, give

him that, but give God what he

565

:

really owes, which is everything.

566

:

And again, that's what the Pharisees

were failing to do in rejecting

567

:

what God was doing through Christ.

568

:

Yeah, and even this, I would say

he's not, he's answering their

569

:

question, but not directly.

570

:

Yeah.

571

:

But again, we have him interacting

with his opponents, not with a clear

572

:

A plus B equal C kind of formula.

573

:

Here.

574

:

Jesus interacts wisely shrewdly.

575

:

He's engaging with them

and yet he's not doing so.

576

:

With a kind of like, Jesus, just tell

me plainly, one way or the other.

577

:

Yeah.

578

:

Now he engages with us according to

the way that we show up to him, and

579

:

I think that's an important principle

for how we engage with the Lord.

580

:

Yeah.

581

:

If we play games with him I would

expect him to be less forthcoming

582

:

than if we say, Lord, help me.

583

:

I'm struggling.

584

:

Here's my issue.

585

:

Here's what I'm struggling with.

586

:

I think the Lord loves to welcome

those who are weak in their faith,

587

:

but not those who are what's the

opposite of genuine faith or.

588

:

The bad faith, insincere

bad faith efforts.

589

:

Yeah.

590

:

So good faith versus bad faith.

591

:

Yeah.

592

:

If someone comes to him in good

faith, he responds accordingly.

593

:

Yeah.

594

:

If someone comes to him in bad

faith, you see the same thing.

595

:

Yep.

596

:

Alright.

597

:

Hey, let's pray and then we'll

be done with this episode.

598

:

God, we thank you for the

truthfulness of your word.

599

:

We thank you for what we can understand

about who you are through the Old

600

:

Testament and these things that you've

set up, these para these parameters, the

601

:

consecration making us, holy Lord we're

grateful that as the church we're holy

602

:

with the righteousness of Christ, even

as we talked about with this wedding.

603

:

Garment that we need to make sure

that we're dressed in, that we're

604

:

dressed Lord, not in priestly garb.

605

:

That is our manmade but we're dressed

with the righteousness of Christ.

606

:

That that's our entrance point that

comes through faith and repentance

607

:

in him and what he's done for us.

608

:

So we pray, Lord, that we would honor

you and the rest of the way that we

609

:

live today, and that we would turn

our attention back to the Word again

610

:

tomorrow as you give us a new day.

611

:

If you do.

612

:

And that we would thrive as

we continue to grow in our

613

:

understanding and knowledge of you.

614

:

We pray this in Jesus name.

615

:

Amen.

616

:

Amen.

617

:

Hey guys, don't forget tomorrow is a new

day and you've got another part of the

618

:

619

:

621

:

I know we're getting into the weeds

a little bit with the Old Testament.

622

:

Mm-hmm.

623

:

But it's gonna pay off.

624

:

So keep going with us.

625

:

We'll catch you guys tomorrow.

626

:

See that.
