Shownotes

This episode provides a comprehensive recap of the spring sports season for Riverside County Prep Sports, as our inaugural season is drawing to a close, and we’re diving deep into the results of spring sports, particularly baseball, softball, and lacrosse. We kick things off with baseball, where Riverside County’s Division One team, Santiago, emerged victorious in pool play. However, Norco, a formidable contender, fell short in the finals against St. John Bosco. Next up is softball, where Norco showcased remarkable performances and reached the semifinals. They put up a valiant fight against J. Sarah Catholic but ultimately fell short. Lacrosse is another sport we’re analyzing, revealing the resilience of local teams. The boys’ team from King narrowly missed out on a championship berth. As we wrap up this episode, we reflect on the entire spring season and eagerly anticipate the fall season.

Speaker A:

Welcome back to Varsity Vibes.

Speaker A:

We have our first year finale right now.

Speaker A:

We are wrapping up the final season and that is spring sports.

Speaker A:

Varsity Vibes going into the:

Speaker A:

So first baseball.

Speaker A:

Division one, the most success for Riverside County, a win by Santiago in pool play.

Speaker A:

2 Wins total for Corona.

Speaker A:

And lastly Norco, the best team in the state entered the postseason as favorites to win the CIF title.

Speaker A:

Well, they made it there but they fell just short, 2 to 0 in the finals to St John Bosco, ending another fantastic year.

Speaker A:

Just shy of CIF Gold for that Norco program.

Speaker A:

Absolute powerhouse in high school baseball, especially here in Californ, California.

Speaker A:

Division two's best performer was Great Oak with a second round exit.

Speaker A:

And then in Division three, nothing to note.

Speaker A:

Division four had La Quinta and Palm Desert win a game a piece before they were knocked out.

Speaker A:

And Division 5 held one win from Riverside Prep.

Speaker A:

And in Division 6, nothing as well.

Speaker A:

Division 7 and 8, nada.

Speaker A:

Division 9 though, one win and it was just an outing from Temecula Prep who managed to scare away with one and and that was all they could do before they were knocked out of the postseason.

Speaker A:

Now down to softball.

Speaker A:

Division 1 wins from Pauly, Muriata, Mesa and Norco, both picking up one win before elimination.

Speaker A:

Leaving Norco as the last team making a run.

Speaker A:

And it would end in the semifinals.

Speaker A:

Both softball and baseball for Norco.

Speaker A:

So talented and so good for programs.

Speaker A:

Semifinal loss vs. J. Sarah Catholic 2 0.

Speaker A:

Both teams fall 2 to 0 to end their seasons.

Speaker A:

And that would wrap up Division 1 for softball.

Speaker A:

Division 2 brought us quarterfinals runs by Vista Murietta before a close loss to Modern Day 11 to 8 ending their season and Riverside County's run in Division 2.

Speaker A:

Division 3 had a single win for Murietta Valley and then a battle for the gold between Riverside Prep and Great Oak as the last two standing the CIF title on the line.

Speaker A:

And the Silver Knights of Riverside Prep would capture it four to three.

Speaker A:

The team that despite the name isn't in the county would be the last Riverside county team remaining in a nail biter for the championship.

Speaker A:

Tough loss for Great Oak.

Speaker A:

They were close in the end and couldn't get it done.

Speaker A:

Division four, they had one win for La Quinta.

Speaker A:

Division five had Shadow Hills falling six to five in the quarterfinals to grace.

Speaker A:

Division six with San Jacinto pulling up Monster scores, but falling after a 10 to nine win and then a 13 to 12 loss.

Speaker A:

23 Runs in the postseason, but only one win to show.

Speaker A:

I don't know if that's ever been done before, not oftentimes in baseball can you put up those kind of numbers and come away with nothing.

Speaker A:

All offense, no defense from San Jacinto and it cost them now in Division 7 and 8, nothing to note as well.

Speaker A:

And that wraps up softball.

Speaker A:

So now we have lacrosse and we're going to start with the boys.

Speaker A:

Division two is where things kick off.

Speaker A:

Riverside, an appearance from Temecula Valley and a win from Vista Murrieta, but just the one and no more.

Speaker A:

Now not as many divisions, so Division 3 is the last one for boys and girls lacrosse.

Speaker A:

Division 3 had heavy Riverside action with Pauly King, Santiago, Roosevelt and Chaparral all managing to win one game, but King managed to win more.

Speaker A:

They pushed further than the rest into a semifinals appearance, losing 16 15, falling just a point shy of a title game bid.

Speaker A:

Now that was the boys.

Speaker A:

Here is the girls.

Speaker A:

Division two saw Murrieta Mesa, Roosevelt, Chaparral and Murrieta Valley.

Speaker A:

The Pumas and Nighthawks were first round exits while Roosevelt and Murrieta Mesa went further.

Speaker A:

The Rams fell in the quarters while Roosevelt was a semifinalist before their season would end.

Speaker A:

And finally Division 3, Santiago, King, great Oak and Norco.

Speaker A:

First off, Santiago and Great Oak had buys in round one, but Norco and King did not and they both got bounced in immediately in the first round.

Speaker A:

Now the two with a buy did what was expected of teams that earned that first round bye.

Speaker A:

They made deep playoff runs.

Speaker A:

A one point loss in the quarterfinals for Santiago ended their season and a two point semifinal loss for Great Oak.

Speaker A:

Both great seasons with narrow eliminations to end it.

Speaker A:

Both of those teams easily could have battled for a CIF title, but things just didn't fall their way in the end.

Speaker A:

And that wraps up lacrosse and that is all of the postseason and CIF championship results from the spring season.

Speaker A:

So baseball, softball, boys and girls lacrosse done and over with.

Speaker A:

And that ends the school year, that ends the sports year and that ends this first year and season of varsity vibes.

Speaker A:

We went through the fall, winter and spring and now we're going to wrap things up and looking forward we are going to have a little bit of a break for the rest of the month of June through July and then about a week or two into August we are going to start ramping things up again for the upcoming fall season which will include football, girls volleyball, and that will be a great time as it was in the previous year.

Speaker A:

So we will be back in just about two months time for the second season of Varsity Vibes on the United America Network.
