Here we are in the middle bit, that festive no man's land, the place where we're over the hump of Christmas but not yet into the New Year chisel. Some people are working, others aren't.
-:
Some people are still festive visiting and some people are in hibernation mode.
-:
There's a lot going on and also not a lot going on depending how you and yours role.
-:
When I worked in local government, I always used to choose to work in this in between bit.
-:
I got loads of my report writing done, filing sorted, and project planning executed, and I loved being available for a phone
-:
call or visit for those who really needed it at this time of year.
-:
Now I stay away from all of that.
-:
I move away from the big new year resolutions, conversations.
-:
I'm not big on goal setting or action planning.
-:
I actually enjoy assessing where I am monthly through the year and just in course, in small but meaningful ways as I go.
-:
I use this time of year for a bit of reflection.
-:
I like to review my year and I most often use the year compass for this.
-:
I'll pop the link in the show notes.
-:
You might like to do it too.
-:
And I also like to choose a word of the year.
-:
Yes, yes, I know, I know, all very out there, only it's not. Stick with me. Let me explain.
-:
In 2022, the word I chose was simplicity.
-:
I had it noted on the front of my diary, on a post it on my desk, and on my office window.
-:
There were several times this year when I thought about taking on projects or tasks that would have overcomplicated my life,
-:
and I returned time and again to the thought, does adding this mean more or less simplicity?
-:
And that gave me the next move or direction to face. In 2021, my word was growth.
-:
Similarly, it helped me to make decisions and plans based upon where I was and where I wanted to be next. 2020 my word was energy.
-:
That was the year I decided to try a 365 day experiment of not drinking and that worked out really well too.
-:
This year my word is going to be focused.
-:
I'm going deep, not wide, on what I want professionally and personally and I know a nice anchor word like this will help me.
-:
I love the process of choosing a word and then testing it for a week or so before I absolutely settle, and the word focus feels like a goodie to me.
-:
I'd love to know if you have a word of the year, or if you're going to choose one for the first time this year, pop me a DM or or email at sarahdrinklesslivebetter.com.
-:
I'd love to hear all about it.
-:
Please give a Christmas gift that will cost you nothing financially this year.
