“Every part of you of what you thought you were sort of has to die metaphorically. That's the scariest part. That's why some people don't go, don't continue on the path." 43:50

Detaching from a narcissist can feel like you're losing a part of yourself, leaving behind a feeling of sadness and emptiness. But it doesn't have to be that way, if you understand the emotional reasons for why it's so hard to detach from someone with narcissistic tendencies.

Our mirroring and attraction to the narcissist of every single thing in ourself we avoid deny and embody and think that they embody.

They're charming, they're good, they're funny. So they are showing you 'you' in the craziest way so you fall in love with you in them.

Fear of Abandonment and Rejection:

Many people who have been in narcissistic relationships carry deep emotional wounds from the experience. They may fear becoming isolated, rejected, or abandoned if they separate from the narcissist, even if they are the ones ending the relationship. This fear can leave them unable to let go and move on, as they feel a strong need for approval and acceptance from the narcissist.

Denial of Your Own Self-Worth and Value:

One of the most damaging psychological effects of being in a relationship with a narcissist is the erosion of your self-worth and value. Narcissists often manipulate people to make them feel inferior and unworthy, which can lead to low self-esteem and negative self-image. This can make it difficult for you to recognize your own worth and value, leaving you feeling powerless to make decisions and changes in your own life.
