Speaker A:You finally step away for a moment and then suddenly your kids or your spouse, they're looking for you, just like Jesus followers were looking for Him.
Speaker A:Today we'll be talking about how to find that time with God every day, even when your schedule is packed.
Speaker A:You'll love this because I'm going to be sharing practical, realistic tips that you can actually use and not overwhelming ideas.
Speaker A:This episode will help you finally stop feeling pulled in 100 directions and you'll start start spending your time with God in a way that sticks.
Speaker A:Let's take a moment to focus and let's dive in if you're ready to break free from stuck, gain clarity, and take steps towards discerning your unique purpose, all while following God's guidance to become the person he created you to be.
Speaker A:If so, you're in the right place.
Speaker A:Hello, I'm Michelle, a Catholic discernment mentor and spiritual coach who went from lost and questioning my purpose to confident in my unique calling using a Catholic based strategy that places God and the Catholic faith at the center.
Speaker A:Are you ready to dive in?
Speaker A:Grab your pen and notebook and get comfy, Open your heart and mind and invite God in as we get ready to become who God created you to be.
Speaker A:Let's do this.
Speaker A:I know what it feels like to wonder, what if I never figure out what I'm here for?
Speaker A:That thought used to just keep me up at night.
Speaker A:That fear that maybe I missed it or maybe I just didn't have one.
Speaker A:I would scroll through the Internet for answers, trying to make sense of the ache in my heart, only to feel more lost, more overwhelmed, and even more unsure of what I was doing wrong.
Speaker A:If that's you, I want you to know you're not alone.
Speaker A:And I also want you to know that that ache in your heart is on purpose.
Speaker A:It's the Holy Spirit inviting you into something more.
Speaker A:Let me help you take that first step, uncovering the unique purpose that God created you for.
Speaker A:Visit michellebranum.com coaching that is www.michellem.
Speaker A:i C H E L L E B R A n n a m.com coaching.
Speaker A:You don't have to stay stuck any longer.
Speaker A:All right, let's dive in.
Speaker A:As I was preparing my workshop, I had noticed my day was completely full.
Speaker A:The housework, getting ready to host my free workshop, recording my podcast episode, and just taking care of the kids.
Speaker A:And I found myself staying up late trying to juggle it all.
Speaker A:Sometimes I didn't even get my prayers in until 1 or 2am I pushed my prayers back again, thinking I'll say them before I go to bed.
Speaker A:And before I realized it, it was 1 2am I would complete my prayers and it would be 3am in the morning and then having to get up and repeat early to make sure and get everything done.
Speaker A:Or I would actually fall asleep while saying my prayers and I actually didn't get my prayers in for the day.
Speaker A:So it's so easy to shift our focus away from God, isn't it?
Speaker A:We think we need to manage every task on our to do list.
Speaker A:But as a busy mom, I know how much we can benefit from just this gentle nudge, a reminder that can find time with God even in the middle of our busy lives.
Speaker A:And I noticed something important in all of this chaos that's been going on.
Speaker A:We can so easily let our days run us instead of letting God guide them.
Speaker A:But if Jesus, even with everything he had going on, made time for prayer first thing in the morning, maybe we can too.
Speaker A:So let's talk about what that looks like in mom life.
Speaker A:So when Jesus started his ministry, his mission, his unique purpose on earth, in all that busyness, he still made space to spend time in prayer with his Father, Our father.
Speaker A:In Mark 1:35, we read in the morning, a great while before day, he rose and he went out to a lonely place and there he prayed.
Speaker A:We hear that Jesus went off before the start of his day in prayer.
Speaker A:So let's be honest, it can be tiring and easier just to stay in bed instead of getting up and meeting our Father in prayer.
Speaker A:But.
Speaker A:But if we want to spend time with God, we must get up.
Speaker A:Our days are full with busy mom life.
Speaker A:We're taking care of our kids, our household responsibilities, work, and our pets.
Speaker A:If you're a dog mom like me, Ellie has special cares that she needs for me as well.
Speaker A:So there is all these different things that I'm juggling in my day to day.
Speaker A:Sure, we're not healing people, we're not casting out the demons or creating miracles like Jesus.
Speaker A:But we are called to imitate Jesus in verse 37 to Mark if we proceed further.
Speaker A:And they found him and said to him, everyone is searching for you.
Speaker A:So how often does it feel like motherhood?
Speaker A:You finally step away for a moment and then suddenly your kids or your spouse, they're looking for you just like Jesus followers were looking for him.
Speaker A:So if we want to make sure we're spending time with God, we can follow Jesus as an example and start our day in prayer with our Father.
Speaker A:It's easy to save.
Speaker A:I have too much to do.
Speaker A:I don't even have time for myself.
Speaker A:So here comes Michelle.
Speaker A:Tough love.
Speaker A:But do you Now, I ask this in a loving and friendly manner the best I can.
Speaker A:Because if we really look at our day, I'm sure there's a space to allow God into to spend that time with him in prayer.
Speaker A:Because we make time for what matters to us.
Speaker A:Spending time with God doesn't have to be complicated.
Speaker A:It might be a devotion, a few verses from the Bible, or quiet prayer.
Speaker A:So let me ask you, where are you spending your limited free time?
Speaker A:What are you doing in that limited free time that you actually have for yourself?
Speaker A:Sometimes we reach for our phones first thing in the morning to check what we've missed while we're sleeping.
Speaker A:So let me ask you this.
Speaker A:What if we turn to God at first instead?
Speaker A:What did we miss with him while we slept?
Speaker A:What's new since we last spoke to Him?
Speaker A:Now, if you're in this phase where you're leaning in towards social media to help you unwind, why can't you and I, why can't we turn to God to unwind instead or start your day with God?
Speaker A:Because so many times we grab that cell phone first thing in the morning, try to figure out what we missed, what's going on.
Speaker A:So that's why I ask and I have you reflect on what if we turn to God first instead?
Speaker A:What did we miss with him while we slept?
Speaker A:What's new since we last spoke to him, getting the updates, what's going on with him, said it versus turning to social media to see what's going on with our family, our friends, our colleagues and everything.
Speaker A:It's easy to want to unwind or catch up on what we missed.
Speaker A:But that's where we fall into the trap of scrolling on social media.
Speaker A:Because before we know it, it's 10 or 15 minutes have passed and that could have been time that we spent in prayer.
Speaker A:For me, it's getting on YouTube to look something up where I'm wanting to listen to a Catholic priest video or.
Speaker A:And even something that just seems innocent, like watching a faith video can still prevent us from actually spending time with God.
Speaker A:So I'm no saint here.
Speaker A:I'm not looking down upon you.
Speaker A:These things I say to you at times I'm saving right back out to myself.
Speaker A:And sometimes it's not even our phones.
Speaker A:It can be a hobby or it can be something we enjoy doing for fun.
Speaker A:Now, I've heard people say they're too busy and then later when we look at their day, they spent time knitting.
Speaker A:And now I'm not saying you can't have a hobby or you can't do something that you love.
Speaker A:Not at all.
Speaker A:That's not what I'm saying.
Speaker A:I'm just saying you could have spent five to ten minutes in prayer and maybe cut that knitting time down just a little bit so you could spend time with God or whatever that thing is for you.
Speaker A:It's often the little things that just sneak up on us without realizing it or even stopping to evaluate.
Speaker A:So in this week's conversation, I just want to invite you to take a look at your day.
Speaker A:Notice where your time is going.
Speaker A:Is it watching TV for a long period of time?
Speaker A:Is it scrolling on social media to see what your friends, family or co workers are up to?
Speaker A:Time that could have been spent in prayer.
Speaker A:Or maybe you're like me, you're finding yourself watching YouTube videos when you could have gotten out of bed just a little bit earlier to say your prayers before everyone else woke up.
Speaker A:Instead of falling into that trap, just be mindful of activities in your day and be gentle with yourself.
Speaker A:But not too gentle now.
Speaker A:Because if we're not careful, we can convince ourselves that it's okay.
Speaker A:That it's okay to do whatever our thing is, the social media, the YouTube videos, our hobbies, what we're doing for fun.
Speaker A:Because if we're not careful, we can convince ourselves that it's okay.
Speaker A:Just be careful not to make excuses, whatever this might be for you.
Speaker A:Because sometimes those distractions or those excuses can be the enemy, nudging our thoughts and convincing us to choose something else.
Speaker A:Instead of spending time with God because He wants not more than to come between you and God and grow you apart and not closer to God.
Speaker A:His soul is ruined.
Speaker A:So now he's coming after your soul to ruin that as well.
Speaker A:To get in between you and drive that wedge between you and God.
Speaker A:If you're feeling that ache in your heart, you're just wondering what is God is asking you or how to hear Him.
Speaker A:That's exactly what I help Catholic moms with in my one to one discernment coaching.
Speaker A:You can take the first step towards that clarity and direction with God by visiting www.michellebranum.com coaching that is M I C H E L L E B R A N N A M.com coaching let's anchor what we've talked about today.
Speaker A:So here are four simple takeaways that you can start using right now to spend more intentional time with God.
Speaker A:You want to Start with God before the world actually starts pulling you away.
Speaker A:And we don't lack time.
Speaker A:We choose what gets our attention.
Speaker A:And the scrolling, the hobbies, or just one more thing can slowly crowd out our prayer and our time with God.
Speaker A:So we need to pause, notice, and gently choose God instead.
Speaker A:And we want to pay attention to what quietly replaces prayer in our day.
Speaker A:Let us pray in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:Lord, thank you for this new day.
Speaker A:Help me to turn to you first, even in the little moments, and not let the distractions take me away from your presence.
Speaker A:Open my heart to hear you guide my choices and remind me that even in five minutes with you, you can transform my day.
Speaker A:In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Speaker A:Amen.
Speaker A:All right, now let's take this from head to heart because knowing that truth is powerful, but that real change happens when we act just one small step at a time.
Speaker A:Now I invite you to take a look at your day and just notice where you're spending your time.
Speaker A:Invite the Holy Spirit into this and just ask him to help you to call to mind where am I spending my time and what needs to change so I have time for you, God.
Speaker A:And afterwards, I'd love for you to come share your reflection over inside our Facebook community Finding youg Purpose Discernment Strategy for Catholic Moms.
Speaker A:And remember my beautiful sister in Christ, that God uniquely created you for a unique person purpose.
