Speaker A: a historic year the season of: Speaker A:And I want to continue in on that theme because there's a lot of history going on right now as we speak, especially going into this Thanksgiving weekend, games where college season is starting to finish up the regular season.
Speaker A:Everybody's getting in a pole position to try to make that college football playoff or at least make a bowl game for the holidays.
Speaker A:And there's going to be plenty of those going on some 40 to 50 bowl games I believe again this year.
Speaker A:But I want to talk about the true freshman quarterbacks that are coming in, you know, playing a lot this season.
Speaker A:And we really have, you know, six individuals in the FBS that are really outstanding at their what they're doing as a signal caller.
Speaker A:And these are teenagers coming in, you know, you're removed from high school, playing at the top level of college football on some pretty outstanding programs.
Speaker A:And the quarterbacks we want to talk about, you know, coming into the year.
Speaker A:And please forgive me if I butcher some of these names, I apologize, I will do my best to do them.
Speaker A:But we really want to talk about these guys, one of the quarterbacks we want to talk about is Bear Bachmeier of byu, Jaron Kwei Sugapatali.
Speaker A:Sorry about that, Jaren, if I mispronounce that.
Speaker A:Bryce Underwood of Michigan, Malik Washington of Maryland and then two newcomers in CJ Carr of Notre Dame and Mason Heinschel of Pitt who came on in mid season.
Speaker A:Sort of want to look and see how what these guys are doing for their respective teams, how they're doing.
Speaker A:And I guess if we look at a passing yardage per game is a pretty good indicator of how they're doing with their arms because that's a lot of times how we measure a quarterback, how are they throwing and their percentage, completion percentage I think is a big number.
Speaker A:So we're going to go here in order of how they are in yards per game.
Speaker A:And starting off here, we're going to talk about Bryce Underwood of Michigan who has a big game coming up against his.
Speaker A:The Wolverines take on the the rivals Ohio State in the game this week.
Speaker A:So this will be a big test for Mr. Underwood.
Speaker A: But so far on a: Speaker A:I believe Michigan is 7 and 2 or 9 and 2, I believe I'm 9 and 2.
Speaker A:And he has nine touchdown passes and 196.9 yards per game at a rate of 135.5 is his quarterback rating.
Speaker A:So just, you know, 62.2% of his passes are completed.
Speaker A:Not a bad number at all.
Speaker A:True freshman has his Wolverines playing some good ball.
Speaker A:We'll see how he does the big test in the big game in here.
Speaker A:Now next on our list is we'll talk about, you know, Mr. Bear Bachmeyer of BYU.
Speaker A:Now this Brigham Young signal caller is completing passes at a 63.0 flat rate for his season.
Speaker A:209.5 yards per game, a 139.9 rating.
Speaker A:On average.
Speaker A:He has 13 touchdowns in 11 games.
Speaker A:And his team also is a 9 and 2 record coming into this final week of the season.
Speaker A:Now Malik Washington of Maryland is also having a stellar career game or career season.
Speaker A:For his first year he has 11 games.
Speaker A:Maryland's not quite the record that the others are having so far.
Speaker A:They are sitting in just a little bit worse shape than that.
Speaker A:The middle of the pack of the Big Ten.
Speaker A:But he has 235 completions, 14 touchdowns over 2,500 yards and 227.6 yards per game, a rate of 115.4 so a little bit the accuracy is not quite there.
Speaker A:57% his ratings down a little bit.
Speaker A:But he's putting some points on the board for the Terps and I'm sure they appreciate that and so their fans.
Speaker A:Now Mason Heinshall came in, I believe it was like week four.
Speaker A:He came in for the Pittsburgh Panthers and he came in and put them on a quite a winning streak.
Speaker A:Came in for Eli Holstein who was benched during the Louisville game.
Speaker A:Gonzalez came in late in that game.
Speaker A:We were down at that game watching and then all of a sudden Heinstall comes in.
Speaker A:You know, is one of the top rated quarterbacks coming out of high school.
Speaker A:By October 29th, you know, people were had him as the top rated quarterback in all of college football as just a few weeks into his career as a collegiate.
Speaker A:Let's take a look at him.
Speaker A:63.1 percentage so far for the season he has six.
Speaker A:I'm sorry, he has 14 touchdowns.
Speaker A:Remember he started mid season 237.4 yards per game, a 142.5 rating which is really stellar for a young man coming in playing in some, some big games for the Panthers against some some good competition in the acc.
Speaker A:Now CJ Carr is one that we're going to go off on a little sidetrack on him in a moment after we get done talking with about the other quarterbacks here.
Speaker A:But C.J.
Speaker A:carr won the battle.
Speaker A:The quarterback battle.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:11 games so far for Notre Dame.
Speaker A:They are nine and two.
Speaker A:He has a 66.9% completion rate.
Speaker A:He's averaging 230.5 yards per game of 169.8 rating for C.J.
Speaker A:carr and they are rolling for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Speaker A:We'll talk more about him in just a second.
Speaker A:He has a great story and then we get to Jaron Kawi Saga Patuli.
Speaker A:Again, I apologize for the name.
Speaker A:Cal's a great quarterback here.
Speaker A:As a freshman he is in 11 games has a 253.4 yards per game average, 124.9 rating, 62.2% completion.
Speaker A:So these guys are getting it done with the AS frosh coming in.
Speaker A:True freshman, not red shirt freshman.
Speaker A:True freshman seeing their first action in college games right off the bat.
Speaker A:And C.J.
Speaker A:carr has got such an interesting background to him.
Speaker A:Now we told you he's at Notre Dame but his family is blue and maize all the way.
Speaker A:This is if you remember back a few decades ago, the coach of Michigan was Lloyd Carr.
Speaker A:The Lloyd Carr is C.J.
Speaker A:carr's.
Speaker A:Grand grandfather and his father also played at Michigan.
Speaker A:He they have I believe his mother's father also played at Michigan.
Speaker A:And there's three boys, cj, Chad and another one and had into the family and they were all big time Michigan stars except for the youngest brother Chad who tragically passed.
Speaker A:Passed away about 10 years ago at the age of five.
Speaker A:He was the younger brother and C.J.
Speaker A:carr recently wrote an article and posted it which is about one of the most heart touching things that you could ever say.
Speaker A:It's called.
Speaker A:He titled it 100 Years of Love and 5 Years of Life.
Speaker A:Totally dedicated to his deceased brother Chad.
Speaker A:And just a very moving thing that he comes tells a little story about the Carr family.
Speaker A:Has some great images and it really jerks at your heart what this family went through, but how much they love their brother.
Speaker A:Tommy is the other brother who is a high school quarterback there in Michigan and he is committed to play for the Wolverines.
Speaker A:So next year you could have Tommy Carr starting for the Mission for Michigan if everything goes right for him.
Speaker A:CJ Carr starting for Notre Dame and what battles they have.
Speaker A:But it's interesting that Chad, one of the reasons that he went against the Green and the family's love of.
Speaker A:Of Michigan and went to Notre Dame is that the youngest brother Chad was sort of an antagonist, not a big sports, not the.
Speaker A:But loved to root against whoever the Michigan Wolverines were playing just to get the goat of his older brothers and the rest of the family.
Speaker A:And I think CJ sort of took this to heart according to his letter and decided not to play at Michigan and ended up going, you know, taking the opportunity, had to go play for Coach Freeman at Notre Dame and won the starting job and how exciting is that?
Speaker A:And maybe playing in the college football playoffs here in a few weeks.
Speaker A:But if you get a chance, you got to read this letter.
Speaker A:You got to appreciate all six of these quarterbacks.
Speaker A:And there's probably some more quarterbacks out there in the lower levels and maybe some guys that aren't getting the, the attention that these six are.
Speaker A:But keep an eye on these fellows because the next couple years, that is what the college football is going to be all about.
Speaker A:Probably one or more of these guys is going to be a Heisman winner in the next two, three years and maybe winning some national championships even this year a couple of them have a shot at that.
Speaker A:So with that said, you know, history in the making.
