The Virginia Highlands Festival kicks off Friday and runs through August 2nd. It includes a focus on art, crafts, music, balloon rides, exhibitions, art walks, tours, antiques, food, and a celebration of the people and places of having them in southwest Virginia. Helping to launch the festival will be the annual Appalachian Supper, which begins at 6 p. m. Thursday, July 23rd. Host Dirk Moore is discussing the festival and the Appalachian Supper today with Deede Cole, the executive producer of the festival and Susan Moll, the chair of the festival's culinary committee.
