Shownotes

When every question, decision, and critical process depends on the practice owner, growth slows and the team becomes increasingly dependent on one person. In this episode, Kirk Behrendt speaks with Heather Crockett, dental practice coach, about the three leadership bottlenecks that restrict practice performance: information, approval, and knowledge.

You will learn how consistent communication rhythms, clearly defined decision-making authority, documented systems, and cross-training can help your team operate with greater ownership and consistency. To identify and remove the leadership bottlenecks holding your practice back, listen to Episode 1080 of The Best Practices Show!

Main Takeaways:

  • An information bottleneck occurs when important knowledge and communication flow only through the doctor or practice owner.
  • Daily huddles, weekly team meetings, and leadership meetings create consistent communication rhythms throughout the practice.
  • Leadership teams must align on decisions and quickly cascade the information to the rest of the team.
  • An approval bottleneck develops when the doctor becomes responsible for routine operational decisions that other team members could own.
  • A function and accountability chart clarifies responsibilities and gives team members defined decision-making authority.
  • A knowledge bottleneck exists when a critical system or process is known by only one person.
  • Documented systems, cross-training, delegation, and repeatable onboarding reduce dependence on individual team members.
