Generating ideas out of thin air is difficult, so it always helps to have methods to organize the fog that is your brain.
Make friends with randomization. This can take the form of playing shiritori, using the alphabet, forcing relationships between random objects, random input, creating and using Harvey cards, and giving clustering (similar to mind maps) a shot.
