Shownotes

This week is a special week for me and the podcast as it marks

my one year anniversary!

I’m very proud to have been going for 12 months!

One of my biggest takeaways from the last 12 months has been

the importance of letting your podcast evolve with you the more experience you get.

There’s nothing wrong with hitting pause or taking a break

to work things out. This will allow you to keep consistent and keep going with

your pod!

Going forward this podcast will be coming to you every other

week with a new guest. I really enjoy the interaction with my guests which is

why I want to make guests a regular thing.

I’ll be chatting with lots of different podcast hosts and experts to give you lots of advice and tips around podcasting which you can go on to use for your own podcast.

I’d love you to join my email list where you get Weekly Podcast Love letting you know when a new episode is out, any exciting news, what I’m up to and recommendations for other podcasts I think you might enjoy!

I’m also excited to announce that along with my friend Sarah McDowell, we’ll be launching a new podcast community called West Midlands Podcast Club.

We met at some awards drinks before Christmas and nerded out

about our love for podcasting. We then got the idea to create a place for local

(and not so local!) podcasters to come together to share ideas, knowledge and build friendships.

It’s for all podcasters – aspiring new and established. Everyone is welcome ☺️

I’ll give you more detail when it’s all ready to go!

Rachael Botfield:

Hi, and welcome to Podcasting 1 0 1 with Rachel.

Rachael Botfield:

This podcast is for busy female entrepreneurs who run their own

Rachael Botfield:

businesses and want to start podcast or who may already have a podcast.

Rachael Botfield:

I want to share practical information and tips on how you can get your podcast

Rachael Botfield:

started and managing it along the way.

Rachael Botfield:

I'll also be interviewing other female podcast.

Rachael Botfield:

Give you real insight into what it's like having your own podcast.

Rachael Botfield:

Hi, and welcome to this week's episode.

Rachael Botfield:

This week mark's one year since I started this podcast.

Rachael Botfield:

Woohoo.

Rachael Botfield:

And, um, so this is a kind of anniversary episode where, um,

Rachael Botfield:

I just wanna look back a little.

Rachael Botfield:

About my, um, experiences past year and sharing any advice and tips I have around

Rachael Botfield:

producing and managing your podcast.

Rachael Botfield:

So this is episode 39.

Rachael Botfield:

So I have produced 39 episodes of this podcast, which I'm very proud of.

Rachael Botfield:

There have been a few changes recently, um, which I'll

Rachael Botfield:

get into a little bit later.

Rachael Botfield:

So what have I learned?

Rachael Botfield:

. One of the biggest things that I have learned is that your podcast can evolve

Rachael Botfield:

and we shouldn't be afraid of pausing to take a break, to rethink things, to change

Rachael Botfield:

the way that you are doing your podcast, be that the frequency, um, the style.

Rachael Botfield:

Uh, so with me, . As you know, if you've been listening for this past

Rachael Botfield:

year, I shared an episode every.

Rachael Botfield:

And I had three solo episodes a month where I would look at a different

Rachael Botfield:

topic, um, like for example, how to record your podcast, how to edit

Rachael Botfield:

your podcast, those types of things.

Rachael Botfield:

Things that would be offering my tips and advice around different elements,

Rachael Botfield:

um, to podcasting and what's involved in, in, in getting your podcast out there.

Rachael Botfield:

And then once a month, I invited different female podcasts.

Rachael Botfield:

Um, who run their own businesses and who have their own podcasts.

Rachael Botfield:

Um, and interviewing them and talking about what it's actually like, setting

Rachael Botfield:

up your podcasts, how the planning went, and all those different questions, which

Rachael Botfield:

would give you, um, just real insight into what it's actually like running a podcast,

Rachael Botfield:

because we all know, um, we have certain expectations or certain things that we.

Rachael Botfield:

It's going to be like when in fact it can be quite different when

Rachael Botfield:

you're actually in the thick of it.

Rachael Botfield:

We all know that with our businesses and we think, oh, this is the way we

Rachael Botfield:

get our quote unquote ideal client, and this is how it's gonna go.

Rachael Botfield:

But obviously it doesn't always work out that way and things evolve differently.

Rachael Botfield:

So yeah, having that ability to.

Rachael Botfield:

Kind of take a look at your podcast periodically, um, and working

Rachael Botfield:

out, is it still working for you?

Rachael Botfield:

Is it doing what you want it to do?

Rachael Botfield:

Are you getting across the message that you want to get across?

Rachael Botfield:

So I have been doing a lot of thinking this year in my business.

Rachael Botfield:

I've not only got this podcast because I'm passionate about podcasting,

Rachael Botfield:

um, and I just, you know, not only just wanting to have a podcast, but.

Rachael Botfield:

I wanted to have a podcast that was supporting my business as well.

Rachael Botfield:

You know, to be fully transparent, I, I want my podcast as well as helping

Rachael Botfield:

you guys with your podcast and giving you some extra tools and tips and

Rachael Botfield:

advice to help you get yours going.

Rachael Botfield:

I also want my podcast to help me in my business to.

Rachael Botfield:

Increase my brand awareness to build my authority in the podcast arena and to

Rachael Botfield:

honestly help me with potential clients.

Rachael Botfield:

I do really feel that podcasting is such a powerful medium and.

Rachael Botfield:

, you know, it could be a deciding factor in somebody deciding whether

Rachael Botfield:

they would like to work with you.

Rachael Botfield:

Um, for example, if you're a coach, podcasting is a great way to showcase

Rachael Botfield:

your skills, to let people get to know you and your voice and what your vibe is.

Rachael Botfield:

And it will, it all helps with your, the no like trust factor.

Rachael Botfield:

and it's an extra touchpoint that people have to go and to find out about you.

Rachael Botfield:

Um, I've been talking to some different podcasters and they are starting to

Rachael Botfield:

see that change w how their podcast is, is helping them in this exact way

Rachael Botfield:

in their business with their clients.

Rachael Botfield:

And some people have said that, you know, There are, there are

Rachael Botfield:

many different touchpoints in which people might come across you

Rachael Botfield:

before they decide to buy with you.

Rachael Botfield:

It might be a long process, like 12 months.

Rachael Botfield:

They might find you on social media.

Rachael Botfield:

They might read, you know, the odd bit of your post, listen to your

Rachael Botfield:

podcast, maybe perhaps religiously, and then that has helped them

Rachael Botfield:

decide to want to work with you.

Rachael Botfield:

This is what I would really love my podcast to do for me and my business,

Rachael Botfield:

and for you and your business.

Rachael Botfield:

So I've decided there's gonna be a couple of changes.

Rachael Botfield:

Uh, if you're on my email list, then you might have, you

Rachael Botfield:

might already know about this.

Rachael Botfield:

If you're not on my email list and you'd like to get weekly reminders about the

Rachael Botfield:

podcast and what's going on and what guests are coming on, then I would

Rachael Botfield:

love for you to join my email list.

Rachael Botfield:

There'll be a link in the show.

Rachael Botfield:

. But what I'd like to do now is I'm going to change, as you might have noticed,

Rachael Botfield:

if you are a regular listener, that the episodes are coming out every other week.

Rachael Botfield:

So this is what it will be going forward.

Rachael Botfield:

I also will be doing, just doing guest episodes every other week, so I'll be

Rachael Botfield:

bringing you a new guest every other week.

Rachael Botfield:

And, and that guess will be other female podcast hosts or people that

Rachael Botfield:

are in the podcasting industry that are doing really cool things and

Rachael Botfield:

that will be able to offer you.

Rachael Botfield:

Um, and I've said this word a lot, insights . Um, Like, we'll be able

Rachael Botfield:

to offer you, um, advice and tips and just some help around your podcast and

Rachael Botfield:

giving you something to think about.

Rachael Botfield:

Maybe something that you haven't really thought about before.

Rachael Botfield:

I'm part of, um, captivate is my podcast host and they have like a

Rachael Botfield:

growth lab, and there's a lady that I've come across called Nick Redman.

Rachael Botfield:

Who is a voice coach and she gave a masterclass, uh, talking about, um,

Rachael Botfield:

warming up your voice and the importance of how you sound, which is not something

Rachael Botfield:

that, I mean, obviously I, everyone kind of worries about what they sound

Rachael Botfield:

about or think about what they sound about, but I'd never really thought

Rachael Botfield:

about it from a voice coach perspective.

Rachael Botfield:

Um, so that was really interesting and, um, I would love to have,

Rachael Botfield:

uh, Nick Redmond on, on this show.

Rachael Botfield:

So that's something that I'm hoping to.

Rachael Botfield:

In the future.

Rachael Botfield:

So those kind of things, it's all gonna be still around podcasting and just bringing

Rachael Botfield:

you interesting conversations that will hopefully help you with your podcast.

Rachael Botfield:

I also have something else really exciting happening.

Rachael Botfield:

I met a lady called Sarah McDowell at an award ceremony.

Rachael Botfield:

Um, what Ceremony, awards, drinks, um, before Christmas and she just

Rachael Botfield:

happens to work for Captivate as well.

Rachael Botfield:

But that's not the reason we connected.

Rachael Botfield:

We kind of nerded out on podcasts.

Rachael Botfield:

Cuz she has her own podcast about SEO as she, because she's an SEO manager.

Rachael Botfield:

I will leave a link to Sarah's podcast in the show notes.

Rachael Botfield:

You can check that out if you're interested in SEO for your podcast.

Rachael Botfield:

and we just really, I really, we really enjoyed our conversation, like

Rachael Botfield:

nerding out about a podcast and it got us thinking that we'd like to

Rachael Botfield:

set up a community for podcasters out there, podcasters of any sort, whether

Rachael Botfield:

you're podcasting for your business, whether it's that passion project.

Rachael Botfield:

It's just really lovely to have a space of.

Rachael Botfield:

A space for people where you can come together and talk about those different

Rachael Botfield:

things and also help and support each other with things like accountability,

Rachael Botfield:

like questions around editing or promotion or any of those things.

Rachael Botfield:

So this podcast community will be called the West Midlands Podcast

Rachael Botfield:

Club cuz that's where Sarah and I are based in the West mid.

Rachael Botfield:

But it will be online.

Rachael Botfield:

So don't worry if you're not in the West Midlands or even in the uk.

Rachael Botfield:

We will be having online meetups so you can join the community from

Rachael Botfield:

wherever you are in the world.

Rachael Botfield:

But we are hoping to host some local events as well, so to help

Rachael Botfield:

grow the community in our area.

Rachael Botfield:

So if you are in the West Midlands, then you might be able to get

Rachael Botfield:

to come and meet Sarah and I, and we can get together face to.

Rachael Botfield:

I'll leave the information in the show notes for you, so if you'd

Rachael Botfield:

like to come along and check it out and see what it's all about,

Rachael Botfield:

then I would absolutely love that.

Rachael Botfield:

So on this podcast, the upcoming guests that I have are Hollywood,

Rachael Botfield:

um, is somebody that I've promoted her episode for quite a while now.

Rachael Botfield:

We chatted just before Christmas, but because of all the, the break

Rachael Botfield:

that I was having and a bit of a rocky start to the year, I.

Rachael Botfield:

Not released her episode yet.

Rachael Botfield:

So that is coming and I'm excited for you to hear that episode.

Rachael Botfield:

And also, I have my chat with Nikki St.

Rachael Botfield:

Paul from the Stories at Connect Podcast.

Rachael Botfield:

Um, Nikki started her podcast around the same time as I did March last year.

Rachael Botfield:

And so she's been going for a year as well.

Rachael Botfield:

So congratulations to Nikki.

Rachael Botfield:

Um, Nikki is also a really supportive listener to this podcast, and I

Rachael Botfield:

greatly appreciate all your input, Nikki, that you give me and all the

Rachael Botfield:

support you've given to the podcast.

Rachael Botfield:

So thank you so much and yeah, I'm excited to share your episode, Nikki.

Rachael Botfield:

So that will be coming in a couple of weeks, and I'll let you all.

Rachael Botfield:

When that episode is out, and again, if you'd like to sign up to the

Rachael Botfield:

newsletter, you will get those into your inbox every Wednesday and it

Rachael Botfield:

will tell you what episode's out that day, or if it's on a week where an

Rachael Botfield:

episode's not released, what's coming up.

Rachael Botfield:

Or if anything else exciting has been happening with me or the podcast

Rachael Botfield:

or any industry news that might, I might feel that you would enjoy

Rachael Botfield:

I hope you've enjoyed this anniversary episode and listening to me talk about,

Rachael Botfield:

you know, this podcast and my journey.

Rachael Botfield:

I don't regret doing this podcast for one moment.

Rachael Botfield:

It brings me a great deal of joy.

Rachael Botfield:

To produce this podcast and to help my clients with their podcast, especially

Rachael Botfield:

Hannah and Nicole from showing up solo.

Rachael Botfield:

Big shout out to them.

Rachael Botfield:

They're a massive supporter, um, of mine and I'm a massive supporter of theirs.

Rachael Botfield:

I love, absolutely love what they are doing.

Rachael Botfield:

Rachael Botfield:

also available as a video podcast on.

Rachael Botfield:

Then you should definitely check that out, especially if you are a solar printer in

Rachael Botfield:

business and you are struggling with your marketing, or maybe you just feel like.

Rachael Botfield:

Rachael Botfield:

a year or two, and your marketing's getting a little stale, or you're

Rachael Botfield:

struggling to keep consistent.

Rachael Botfield:

These guys have so much tips and advice to help you out, so I would

Rachael Botfield:

highly, highly recommend that you go and listen to their podcast.

Rachael Botfield:

Again, I will leave a link in the show notes for you to easily find them.

Rachael Botfield:
