Shownotes

In this episode of Tammy’s Takes, Tammy breaks down one of the biggest misconceptions in personal growth:

👉 you don’t have a motivation problem… you have a belief problem.

Following her conversation with Mo Choice, Tammy dives into the deeper reason so many people feel stuck, inconsistent, or unable to follow through—even when they know exactly what they “should” be doing.

Because the truth is…

👉 you will always act in alignment with what you believe is true.

And many of those beliefs were formed years ago as survival strategies—patterns like people pleasing, perfectionism, avoidance, and control that once kept you safe, but are now keeping you stuck.

In this episode, Tammy walks you through:

  1. Why motivation isn’t the real issue
  2. How unconscious beliefs drive your behavior
  3. The hidden patterns that keep you stuck in cycles
  4. How to identify the beliefs running your life
  5. A simple, practical 4-step “belief reset” you can use in real time
  6. How to shift from awareness into actual change

This episode is especially powerful for those who:

✔ feel stuck or inconsistent

✔ struggle with procrastination or self-doubt

✔ know what to do but can’t seem to follow through

✔ are ready to break old patterns and create real change

This isn’t about trying harder.

👉 It’s about changing what you believe is possible.

☕ Ready to go deeper?

If this resonated and you’re ready to uncover the patterns that are actually driving your behavior—and shift them in a real, sustainable way…

Speaker A:

Hi, everybody.

Speaker A:

Welcome back to another episode of Tammy's Takes, where we take powerful conversations with our guests and turn them into practical strategies you can use right here, right now.

Speaker A:

So in my last episode, I sat down with Mo Choice, and we talked about burnout, rebuilding your life, and what it really takes to live life on your own terms.

Speaker A:

But there's one thing that he said that really stood out to me, and I want to kind of build on that.

Speaker A:

Today.

Speaker A:

He made a quote, and this is it.

Speaker A:

And I want you to listen very carefully to this.

Speaker A:

He said, you get to choose what you believe is true.

Speaker A:

And I want to slow that down, because if you actually understood that, it would change everything.

Speaker A:

I want to say it again.

Speaker A:

You get to choose what you believe is true.

Speaker A:

So let's talk about motivation, because so many people come to me and they say, tammy, I have a motivation problem.

Speaker A:

I just can't follow through.

Speaker A:

I don't stay consistent.

Speaker A:

I know what to do, but I don't do it.

Speaker A:

But what Mo said and what I see with all of the clients is that it's not a motivation problem, it's a belief problem, because you will always act in alignment with what you truly believe, not what you know logically, but what in your heart of hearts you truly believe.

Speaker A:

So we talked about all these strategies that you pick up when you're a child, when you're going through that kind of dysfunction, and you pick up these survival strategies, right?

Speaker A:

So that's the people pleading the avoidance, the control, the perfectionism.

Speaker A:

And all of those strategies helped us as children.

Speaker A:

They kept us safe, they helped us survive.

Speaker A:

But what's going on now, Those strategies are still running in the back of our brain.

Speaker A:

We're still acting like those are things that we need to survive, and it's keeping us stuck, keeping us stuck from being the absolute best version of yourself.

Speaker A:

And that is exactly what I work on with people, because you can understand where it came from, but if you don't change how it's showing up in your body and your choices, nothing changes.

Speaker A:

So today I want to talk about the practical part of it.

Speaker A:

The four step belief reset.

Speaker A:

And this is just going to take a couple minutes, but it's four steps that I think are so important, and four steps that you can actually start to use right now, because this is where we're stuck.

Speaker A:

We know what, but not the how.

Speaker A:

Mo is very specific.

Speaker A:

When he said that, that was his.

Speaker A:

His exact quote, actually.

Speaker A:

He said, we know the what, but we're not.

Speaker A:

We're missing the how.

Speaker A:

So here's your how?

Speaker A:

Number one.

Speaker A:

Step one, catch the pattern.

Speaker A:

The next time you notice yourself, overthinking, avoiding, procrastinating, people, pleasing, doing all those things, just stop for a minute, pause and say, what do I believe is true?

Speaker A:

Right now.

Speaker A:

Right now.

Speaker A:

Now.

Speaker A:

Step two, check in with your body.

Speaker A:

You know, I talk about this all the time.

Speaker A:

Say the belief out loud.

Speaker A:

I'm not good enough.

Speaker A:

I'm not.

Speaker A:

I'm going to mess this up.

Speaker A:

I can't do this.

Speaker A:

I won't do this right?

Speaker A:

And then notice, does your body open up or does it shrink because your body doesn't lie?

Speaker A:

Step three, choose a new belief and do this on purpose.

Speaker A:

Here's where most people stop, because this is where you shift it.

Speaker A:

This is where you actually have to do the work and you have to push to the next step.

Speaker A:

Ask yourself, what would I need to believe instead to move forward?

Speaker A:

And then say it, I can figure this out.

Speaker A:

I'm allowed to do this imperfectly.

Speaker A:

I can handle this.

Speaker A:

So give yourself that new belief.

Speaker A:

And then step four, do one action that matches that new belief.

Speaker A:

And this is the key.

Speaker A:

Because you don't change your life by thinking differently.

Speaker A:

You change your life by acting differently.

Speaker A:

So take one small step.

Speaker A:

Send the message you weren't sure you wanted to send.

Speaker A:

Say what you want.

Speaker A:

Stop over explaining yourself.

Speaker A:

Take the next step, even if it's freaking messy.

Speaker A:

Because guys, you don't need more motivation.

Speaker A:

You need a belief that actually supports you.

Speaker A:

So I was trying to think of a real life example and I'm going to just do this with myself because I've been working on getting more on TikTok, social media, Instagram, all the stuff everybody says you need to be visible and I don't like being visible.

Speaker A:

But let's just use the example of going to post content.

Speaker A:

I go to post my content and I'm putting it off.

Speaker A:

Why?

Speaker A:

What am I thinking in my head?

Speaker A:

Step one, old belief.

Speaker A:

People will judge me, people will care, people will make fun of me, I don't look good, all of those things.

Speaker A:

But now let's give the new awareness because that's the new awareness and I know I'm doing it.

Speaker A:

Is that's the belief running the show, not the way I should be, not the way I want to be.

Speaker A:

So my new belief, instead of I don't look good, nobody cares.

Speaker A:

What I have to say is the right people will find me.

Speaker A:

And then action.

Speaker A:

I post anyway in that moment, right then and there, without overthinking, thinking it, without analyzing it, without worrying about what people think of me, I just do it because that's where everything starts to shift.

Speaker A:

So kind of bringing it back to the episode with Mo when he talked about this in such a powerful way that we choose our beliefs every single day, even if we don't realize it.

Speaker A:

So the question then becomes, are our beliefs working for us or against us?

Speaker A:

Think about that.

Speaker A:

Are the things that you're choosing to believe working for you or against you?

Speaker A:

And I challenge you to take that four step process and put it into the next.

Speaker A:

Put it into the scenario.

Speaker A:

The next time something happens, the next time you don't speak out, the next time you're procrastinating, the next time that inner critic comes up and comes up and talks to you in a way that you don't want to hear it.

Speaker A:

Try those four steps and see how it works out.

Speaker A:

And guys, honestly, if you're listening to this and you're thinking, okay, I see the pattern, but I still feel stuck, that's totally normal.

Speaker A:

Because this work is not just mental.

Speaker A:

It's not just in our minds.

Speaker A:

We talk about this all the time.

Speaker A:

It's in your nervous system.

Speaker A:

It's patterning and it's repetition.

Speaker A:

So that's where you have to do things over and over and over again.

Speaker A:

And that's where sometimes it helps if you have people walk through it with you.

Speaker A:

And I would love to be that person that walks through this process with you.

Speaker A:

So if this hit, if you're realizing that maybe what's holding you back isn't your discipline, maybe it's what you believe about yourself, I want to invite you to take the next step.

Speaker A:

Let's talk book a confidence and clarity call below and let's just chat.

Speaker A:

Because you don't need to become someone new.

Speaker A:

You don't need to be more motivated.

Speaker A:

You need to start choosing beliefs that actually support the life you want.

Speaker A:

The life you're living right now is a reflection of what you believe is possible.

Speaker A:

So let's change what you believe is possible.

Speaker A:

Thanks guys.

Speaker A:

We will see you back next week.

Speaker A:

Love you all.
