The past few weeks have been filled with a flurry of news involving celebrities, including the birth of hip-hop mogul P. Diddy's new child and the shooting of rapper Megan Thee Stallion. The events have put the spotlight on several public figures, including P. Diddy's rumored girlfriend Caresha aka Yung Miami, and Tory Lanez, who is accused of shooting Megan Thee Stallion.
Since the announcement of Love Sean's birth, Caresha has been the target of online harassment. Speculation that Caresha is a side chick and upset with P. Diddy have been rampant due to her posts on social media, even though she and P. Diddy have both made it clear that they are not in a relationship. The situation has raised questions about why it is acceptable for people to criticize Caresha for her choices, yet P. Diddy's own antics with multiple women go unchecked.
The Megan Thee Stallion shooting incident has also been a cause for concern. Tory Lanez is facing 22 years in prison for the shooting, and speculation is growing that he and Kelsey may have conspired to create a mistrial. Kelsey has been given immunity and a million dollars was offered at some point by Tory Lanes. Tory Lanes also sent text messages apologising for the incident. This tragedy has led to a discussion of the way people are treated differently based on their race and gender.
We also discussed the Harry and Megan documentary on Netflix and the media scrutiny that both Megan and Harry's have faced.
In Aunties know best section Aunty AK shared a story about a husband's surprise teenage daughter. The daughter is currently sleeping on the couch of a great aunt who has no stable adult in her life, and the grandparents are disabled and sickly. The step mother is worried about her own mental health issues and her ability to parent a teenager, yet she and her husband feel obligated to take the girl in.
The events of the past few weeks have raised many questions about the way people are treated, the way we view different types of relationships, and the inequalities which exist in our society. It is essential that we all take the time to reflect on these events, and learn from them so that similar situations can be avoided in the future.
