Plot Summary: After Brick Pollitt (Paul Newman) injures himself drunkenly revisiting his high school sports-star days, he and his estranged wife, Maggie (Elizabeth Taylor), visit his family's Mississippi plantation for the 65th birthday of his hot-tempered father, Big Daddy (Burl Ives). Big Daddy does not know he is dying, but Brick drunkenly discloses the state of Big Daddy’s health. Brick’s older brother, Gooper (Jack Carson), and his wife, Mae (Madeleine Sherwood), knowing of Big Daddy’s demise, seek to control his estate. As the family wrangles over Big Daddy’s money, Brick and Big Daddy struggle to come to terms with their relationship.
