Shownotes

If the idea of planning summer content makes you want to ghost Instagram until September… I get it. But disappearing completely? That’s gonna make it way harder to build momentum when your audience is back and ready to buy in the fall.

In this episode of Mompreneur Mastery, I’m walking you through my flexible, real-life content strategy for summer—one that gives you more time with your kids and still helps you show up and sell on Instagram. You’ll learn how I batch content weekly, adjust for life (and algorithm) chaos, and build every post around my 5-step strategy to turn followers into paying clients.

We’re talking:

  • How to map out a month of content in 30 minutes
  • Why you only need 2–3 posts a week to stay visible and build trust
  • The 5-step strategy that moves followers from “just watching” to “ready to buy”
  • How to adapt your content when trends shift or life does what life does
  • Why most content calendars fail (and how to create one that actually fits you)

This isn’t about doing more. It’s about doing less- with strategy.

Speaker A:

You don't need to post on Instagram.

Speaker B:

Every day this summer, but if you disappear completely, it's gonna be way harder.

Speaker A:

To sell later when people are ready.

Speaker B:

To buy in the fall.

Speaker B:

So in this episode, I'm gonna walk you through how to plan summer content that gives you more freedom and flexibility while still leading to sales, even if you're only posting two or three times a week.

Speaker C:

Welcome to mompreneur Mastery, where we build businesses, raise families and skip the hustle.

Speaker C:

That doesn't actually help.

Speaker C:

I'm Sydney o' Brien, certified Instagram strategist, mom of three and your no fluff to making more sales with content that's strategic, simple, and you can actually make in the small mom cracks of your day because Instagram shouldn't feel like a full time job you're not getting paid for.

Speaker C:

If you're ready to stop posting just to stay visible and start sharing content that actually converts to sales and gets you clients, you're in the right place.

Speaker B:

Hey, and welcome back to mompreneur Mastery.

Speaker A:

I am your host, Sidney o' Brien.

Speaker B:

And today, like I said, we're talking.

Speaker A:

About summer content plans because let's be.

Speaker B:

So for real right now, summer does not care about your content plan.

Speaker A:

Between camps and vacations and traveling and your kids asking you for a new snack every seven and a half minutes, it is really easy for Instagram to.

Speaker B:

Fall way down your priority list.

Speaker A:

And that is totally fine.

Speaker A:

I completely understand.

Speaker A:

It's the same for me too.

Speaker B:

But when you don't have a plan for your content, one of two things usually happens.

Speaker A:

Either you don't post at all, or you scramble to throw something together that.

Speaker B:

Doesn'T connect with the rest of your content or really lead anywhere.

Speaker A:

Right?

Speaker A:

And that is how you end up.

Speaker B:

Spending time on content and not seeing results.

Speaker B:

And if you're not posting at all.

Speaker A:

It'S going to take you longer to.

Speaker B:

Get those results when people are back.

Speaker A:

In action in the fall and ready to buy.

Speaker B:

So today I want to walk you through exactly how I plan and batch content during the summer in a way that works with my life and not against it.

Speaker B:

Because my goal is always to hang out with my family much, much more than working.

Speaker A:

I don't want to spend all my.

Speaker B:

Work hours making content when I could.

Speaker A:

Be at the pool with my kids.

Speaker B:

Or doing something else fun.

Speaker B:

Because I know summer is chaotic and.

Speaker A:

The idea of just ghosting Instagram for two months might sound kind of appealing.

Speaker B:

And if that is what you need.

Speaker A:

To do personally, go for it.

Speaker B:

If you are trying to figure out if that's what you want to do.

Speaker B:

Let me just give you some information.

Speaker A:

Summer is when most people disappear, when.

Speaker B:

Everyone else is quiet.

Speaker A:

Even posting once or twice a week helps you stand out and stay top of mind.

Speaker B:

So the people who are scrolling pools or while they're traveling, they're seeing your.

Speaker A:

Content and engaging and you're still nurturing and building that trust and connection.

Speaker A:

You need to make sales.

Speaker B:

So you can still make sales with a strategic content plan while spending way.

Speaker A:

Less time on Instagram.

Speaker B:

But when you don't post at all, your engagement will totally tank and it's going to be a lot harder to.

Speaker A:

Get that back when you start up again.

Speaker A:

You're going to be starting from scratch instead of just slowly increasing frequency.

Speaker B:

So just by showing up a little bit, your content keeps working for you.

Speaker B:

So this is not about doing more.

Speaker A:

It'S about doing less, but doing it on purpose.

Speaker A:

Still being intentional with your content and posting with purpose.

Speaker B:

Now if there is one thing I know about being a mom in business.

Speaker A:

Moms in general, honestly, it is that routines are changing constantly.

Speaker A:

Kids schedules shift, whether it's school days.

Speaker B:

And holidays or whether, you know, you have a baby at home and it's.

Speaker A:

New nap time schedule where they start.

Speaker B:

To teeth or kids get sick or you know, bedtime routines get out of whack because of daylight savings and suddenly.

Speaker A:

Bedtime is taking 97 years and it.

Speaker B:

Cuts down on your work time sometimes.

Speaker A:

What worked last week just doesn't this week.

Speaker B:

You can't really predict it, but you can plan for it.

Speaker A:

My whole year this year has been throwing me curveballs.

Speaker B:

We've had new commitments for the kids.

Speaker A:

With more homeschool enrichment classes, more sports.

Speaker B:

And we also have new recurring doctor's.

Speaker A:

Visits for two of my kids.

Speaker A:

So there was just no way that.

Speaker B:

I could keep doing what I was doing when it comes to planning content without burning out.

Speaker B:

So that is when I came up.

Speaker A:

With a more flexible strategy.

Speaker A:

One that I have been tweaking for.

Speaker B:

The summer months so I can do even less but still have that strategy behind it.

Speaker B:

So my content is working for me and actually helping me make sales because I obviously still want what I post to be strategic so it actually gets.

Speaker A:

Those results that I need for my business.

Speaker B:

I still want it to build towards sales, but I want the freedom to be able to adjust it when I need to and not feel like I.

Speaker A:

Have to start over every time something changes.

Speaker A:

So it used to be I would.

Speaker B:

Batch a full month of content and create and Schedule it at once and then I would just be done.

Speaker B:

And it worked back then, but now that does not fit into my life.

Speaker B:

Now I batch a week at a time while I have a content plan for a month.

Speaker A:

Not the post, just the plan.

Speaker B:

And then I will batch the actual content about a week at a time.

Speaker B:

But I always, always, always keep the strategy behind my posts.

Speaker B:

But doing it this way gives me.

Speaker A:

The space to jump on a trending audio.

Speaker B:

If something fits, share something personal or timely, if it fits in my content plan, if there's another Instagram update or something, any kind of industry update that needs to be addressed timely, I am.

Speaker A:

Able to still do that.

Speaker B:

And I have the flexibility to do that.

Speaker B:

Or if my schedule shifts, if something is going on with the kids, I.

Speaker A:

Have flexibility there as well.

Speaker A:

But the best part is I always.

Speaker B:

Have a plan to fall back on.

Speaker B:

I am never starting from scratch and that makes creating the content way less overwhelming.

Speaker B:

And it happens so much faster.

Speaker B:

So it doesn't take me a whole lot of time.

Speaker B:

I would say when I do my actual content plan that takes me maybe three, just 30 minutes to an hour depending on how much content I'm doing that week.

Speaker B:

And this is for a month.

Speaker B:

I'm not getting into exactly what I'm.

Speaker A:

Going to be posting every month.

Speaker B:

I'll explain in just a minute.

Speaker B:

And then each week I probably spend.

Speaker A:

45 minutes to an hour actually creating and scheduling the content for that week.

Speaker B:

And I've normally been posting about five times a week.

Speaker A:

So this is for five weekly posts.

Speaker B:

Taking me 45 minutes to an hour every week.

Speaker B:

So this saves me a bunch of time.

Speaker B:

So when it comes to summer, I'm going to follow that same general plan, but I'm going to be posting less.

Speaker B:

So let me walk you through what.

Speaker A:

That is going to look like first.

Speaker B:

Like I said, I start with the big picture.

Speaker B:

I look at the whole month and I ask what am I promoting?

Speaker B:

What weeks are going to be wild, where I need to do less, what days do I already know I want completely off?

Speaker B:

I don't want to be doing anything in my business, not cause I don't want to be promoting something that takes.

Speaker A:

A lot of my time.

Speaker B:

If I know I'm going to be busy, like I don't want to have a sale where I'm going to have to do like done for you work when people buy.

Speaker B:

If I'm going to be like visiting family in New England or something.

Speaker A:

So I block those days off that.

Speaker B:

Will just be non promo content or like low Lift content.

Speaker B:

I can sell something that takes zero energy for me and everything is automated.

Speaker B:

But then I want to drop in anything I am promoting.

Speaker B:

So if I'm know I'm going to have a flash sale or a launch or anything like that, I will put that in second.

Speaker A:

And then I work backwards using my five steps to sales strategy.

Speaker B:

And those five steps are growth, engagement, connection, trust and promotion.

Speaker B:

And that is what gives me the overall structure.

Speaker B:

Okay, but I'm not done yet.

Speaker B:

So then once I have that, if I have not been interrupted by my children, I go back and I look.

Speaker A:

At each week to figure out what kind of content I need on each.

Speaker B:

Day I plan to post.

Speaker B:

So and I follow those five steps.

Speaker A:

That I mentioned just a minute ago.

Speaker A:

So engagement to start building visibility again.

Speaker B:

Connection to warm people up before sale, trust, you know, sharing that social proof.

Speaker B:

And then the promo day.

Speaker A:

So I will go and label every.

Speaker B:

Day that I plan to share content like that, engagement, connection, trust, whatever.

Speaker A:

And then because this is real life.

Speaker B:

Like I said, I normally get interrupted.

Speaker A:

By someone yelling mom, I'm hungry, can.

Speaker B:

I have a sandwich?

Speaker B:

Someone so is touching me and I don't want them to.

Speaker A:

So that's fine.

Speaker B:

That's like one step.

Speaker B:

I don't ever have time to do.

Speaker A:

This all in one sitting, which is.

Speaker B:

Why I definitely need that flexibility I talked about earlier.

Speaker B:

So then when I do have time to come back to my laptop, normally with a child crawling on me, that is when I start to plug in specific post topics.

Speaker B:

So if I have marked one of those posts as engagement, I will think.

Speaker A:

What is something I can say that would get me replies?

Speaker B:

And now not just any old thing.

Speaker B:

I want it to be related to whatever I'm going to be promoting next.

Speaker B:

So what pain point or goal is really top of mind for my audience right now that is related to the offer I'm going to be promoting soon.

Speaker B:

If it's a connection post, I might share a story or something I've been struggling with or I have struggled with that they'll relate to.

Speaker A:

If it's trust, I can share some.

Speaker B:

Social proof, maybe client results or results I've gotten.

Speaker B:

And then all of this is based.

Speaker A:

Around the offer I'm building toward.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker A:

So quick example here.

Speaker A:

Let's say at the end of July.

Speaker B:

I want to sell my trial reels guide.

Speaker B:

It's low energy for me because people buy it and it's automatically delivered to their inbox.

Speaker A:

There's no done for you content.

Speaker A:

I have to take time to create.

Speaker B:

So it's Kind of perfect for a summer sale.

Speaker B:

So I will look at the thing I'm trying to promote and I will think about pain points surrounding this topic.

Speaker A:

That this offer solves.

Speaker B:

And I will think about goals that.

Speaker A:

This offer helps people achieve.

Speaker B:

And then I will look at my content calendar and look, starting with those like engagement posts that I mark down on the content calendar, I will create post topics around those pain points and goals and scenarios people are experiencing that would all be solved with this offer.

Speaker B:

So for an engagement post, I could.

Speaker A:

Do are you posting consistently but still getting crickets?

Speaker B:

And then break down like why engagement.

Speaker A:

Stays low if the wrong people are seeing your stuff.

Speaker B:

Since the goal of the trial reels guide and formulas is to use trial reels to find super aligned followers that.

Speaker A:

Actually engage and actually buy.

Speaker A:

So then for a connection post, I.

Speaker B:

Could share a story about how I spent so much time hopping on random reels trends hoping it would get me followers.

Speaker B:

And it did, but they weren't aligned.

Speaker A:

So it actually tanked my engagement rate.

Speaker B:

And really hurt my account or something like that.

Speaker A:

For a trust post, I could share.

Speaker B:

The social proof how when I was coming up with this guide and formulas, it came about because I, you know, shared one trial reel and two of the new followers I got joined my membership within a week.

Speaker B:

So this is the perfect way to.

Speaker A:

Get those aligned followers that actually buy.

Speaker B:

From you and then from there the sales post, right following that five step strategy.

Speaker B:

So I have like just general topic ideas that I'm filling into this content calendar.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker B:

And then every week I will go in and I will look at what is trending, I will look at the goal of the post, I will know the general idea of what I want to talk about and then I will go look and see what is trending.

Speaker B:

Not to get ideas.

Speaker B:

I'm not just chasing trends for the sake of it, but if there's something.

Speaker A:

That fits the message I already have.

Speaker B:

Planned trends are supposed to support your strategy, not replace it.

Speaker B:

So if there is that, great, I will totally use it and take advantage of that trend.

Speaker B:

If not, I will stick with a static post, talking head reel carousel, something else.

Speaker A:

The post still gets made and it still serves that purpose, working toward the.

Speaker B:

Ultimate goal of sales.

Speaker A:

So if summer already feels like a lot with the chaos that it includes, with changing schedules and all of that, and Instagram falls somewhere between not a.

Speaker B:

Priority and literally, no, I totally get it.

Speaker B:

But here's the thing.

Speaker A:

You don't have to post more.

Speaker A:

You don't need to show up every.

Speaker B:

Day and you definitely don't need to keep guessing what might work.

Speaker A:

What you do need is a plan.

Speaker B:

That gives you flexibility.

Speaker B:

And not just for your schedule, right.

Speaker A:

But for your content strategy too.

Speaker B:

Because trends change, how people consume content changes.

Speaker B:

So we don't want to plan too.

Speaker A:

Much ahead of time.

Speaker B:

Do you remember when everyone loved the like three ways to grow on Instagram kind of content?

Speaker B:

Like X ways to achieve whatever goal.

Speaker B:

But now content is all about real life, relatable person first content.

Speaker A:

Right?

Speaker B:

So if I were to make that.

Speaker A:

Post today, I would instead say the.

Speaker B:

Three things I do to get new followers as an Instagram strategist, even if I only have one hour a week.

Speaker B:

So not only as moms do we need the flexibility in our content plan.

Speaker A:

Especially in the summer with routines changing and schedules changing and all the things going on, all the vacations happening and.

Speaker B:

Summer camps and everything.

Speaker A:

But we also need it for the content itself, right?

Speaker A:

So that is why batching a month.

Speaker B:

At a time just, it doesn't work anymore.

Speaker B:

And that is exactly why I created.

Speaker A:

The stress free summer content planning workshop.

Speaker B:

It's not just to help you plan.

Speaker A:

A calendar full of random posts so you can check Instagram off your to do list.

Speaker B:

While I know that sounds really appealing.

Speaker A:

My goal is always to help you get more sales, not just to fill your feed with posts that get you.

Speaker B:

Likes and comments, right?

Speaker B:

So in this workshop, I walk you through the whole process.

Speaker B:

I'm going to be doing it for my content, right alongside you, answering your questions, helping you brainstorm, post topics, all of the things.

Speaker A:

And it is only $7.

Speaker B:

And yes, you get a replay.

Speaker A:

I completely understand.

Speaker B:

Things happen, Kids need you.

Speaker B:

Speaker B:

But I walk you through the actual.

Speaker A:

Process so you can build a content plan that's tied to your business goals.

Speaker B:

Map it around your real life.

Speaker A:

Yes, even if your kids are home.

Speaker B:

For the summer and your schedules are absolutely bonkers and you know exactly how each post builds towards sales, not just likes and comments.

Speaker B:

And the best part is you don't.

Speaker A:

Have to start from scratch every week.

Speaker A:

You will walk away with a simple.

Speaker B:

Flexible strategy that you can adjust as needed.

Speaker B:

Because your life and Instagram, it doesn't.

Speaker A:

Always follow the perfect plan.

Speaker A:

So if you're tired of content that.

Speaker B:

Feels random, if you're tired of trying to post just to keep up, or.

Speaker A:

Tired of wondering what the heck to.

Say, this is definitely for you.

Speaker B:

I don't want you wasting your precious summer hours on content that isn't going to get you sales and I don't want you to completely abandon Instagram and make it harder to build that momentum.
