Transcripts

Speaker:

Okay, I wanna ask you something,

and I want you to actually think

2

:

about it before you answer.

3

:

When you decided to homeschool your

kids, or when you first started seriously

4

:

considering it, what was the hardest part?

5

:

Not the logistics, not the

curriculum, the hardest part mentally.

6

:

For most families we talk to, it's

not, "Can I actually teach my kids?"

7

:

It's more like, "Can I

actually afford this?"

8

:

The money question stops people

before they ever get started,

9

:

or it catches up with them a year in when

the reality of the cost hits and there's

10

:

no system in place to handle it And then

they go looking for help, real practical

11

:

help, and they find almost nothing.

12

:

That's what genuinely surprised

me when we launched this show.

13

:

I knew the need was enormous.

14

:

I did not expect how empty

the space was, though.

15

:

There's an entire ecosystem

built around the educational side

16

:

of homeschooling, curriculum,

methodology, co-ops, community.

17

:

But the financial side, the how

do we actually fund this without

18

:

destroying our family side, families

are largely on their own, figuring

19

:

it out on Facebook groups through

trial and error without a real system.

20

:

And that gap is exactly

why we built this show.

21

:

And one year in, we are more

clear on that mission than ever.

22

:

Today, we're talking about where we've

been, where we're going, and most

23

:

importantly, we're coming to meet you

in person this weekend here in Texas

24

:

A fast-growing number of parents

are starting their homeschooling

25

:

journey, while others have

been homeschooling for years.

26

:

All of these parents are asking one big

question: How can I afford to homeschool?

27

:

We're here to answer that important

question once and for all.

28

:

Hi, I'm Crystal Obie.

29

:

And I'm Anthony Obie.

30

:

We've been homeschooling our five kids

for 13 years, and we funded it through

31

:

our online consulting business that

we've been running for over 17 years.

32

:

Now, we're combining Crystal's financial

coaching expertise with my digital

33

:

marketing background, where I help

entrepreneurs launch and sell online.

34

:

We're here to help fellow

homeschooling parents self-fund

35

:

their homeschool journey and create

lifestyle businesses for financial

36

:

freedom without a nine-to-five job.

37

:

Are you ready to start living life

on your own terms and make your

38

:

homeschooling experience a lot more fun?

39

:

Well, then sit back, crank up the volume,

and enjoy this episode of Homeschool Money

40

:

Hey guys, I'm Anthony

Obie I'm Crystal Obie.

41

:

Welcome back to the

Homeschool Money Podcast.

42

:

One year of the Homeschool Money Podcast.

43

:

I wanna take a minute to actually sit

in that, because it's easy to look

44

:

forward and miss what we've built.

45

:

A year ago, we were recording in, well,

wherever we were recording and putting

46

:

something out into the world and trusting

that the right people would find it.

47

:

And they did.

48

:

That's the thing.

49

:

I was never uncertain about the topic.

50

:

I knew this conversation needed to happen.

51

:

What I didn't fully anticipate was how

many families were sitting in the exact

52

:

gap waiting for someone to just speak

clearly directly to their situation.

53

:

The response we've gotten this year

has confirmed that over and over.

54

:

What stands out to me is the specificity

of what people share with us.

55

:

It's not just, "Great show."

56

:

It's more like, "I didn't know that

tool existed," or, "We've been doing

57

:

this wrong, and now we have a plan."

58

:

That tells me the information is actually

landing and changing how families operate.

59

:

That's the goal.

60

:

Yeah, that's the goal, and

here's what I wanna be clear

61

:

about as we step into year two.

62

:

We have not even scratched the surface.

63

:

The episodes we haven't recorded

yet, the resources we haven't built

64

:

yet, the families we haven't reached

yet, there is so much runway ahead.

65

:

Year one was proof of concept.

66

:

Year two is where we build.

67

:

And we're starting year two by getting

off the microphone and getting into the

68

:

room, which is exactly how it should be.

69

:

You can't build something for a community

without actually being in the community.

70

:

That's right, which brings

us to this coming up weekend

71

:

We're going to the Texas Homeschool

Expo DFW this weekend, and we

72

:

want our listeners to be there.

73

:

Let's tell them exactly what

this event actually is, because

74

:

it's not a typical conference.

75

:

Okay, so the Texas Homeschool Expo is

an annual resource fair for current

76

:

and prospective homeschool families,

77

:

And resource fair is the right word.

78

:

You are walking into a room with dozens

of curriculum companies, educational

79

:

programs, service providers, local

organizations all in one place, in

80

:

person, where you can actually put

your hands on the material, ask real

81

:

questions, and talk to the people

behind what you're considering.

82

:

That in-person piece matters

more than people realize.

83

:

There's a very big difference between

buying curriculum online at midnight

84

:

based on a review you read, and actually

sitting with it, flipping through it,

85

:

asking the company, "How does this work

for a kid who learns like mine does?"

86

:

You can't replicate the

experience with a website.

87

:

Hey, real quick, if you're liking the

show, hit follow so you don't miss a

88

:

single episode, and drop a five-star

rating and a review to let us know that

89

:

you're loving the content and tell us

what topics you'd like us to cover.

90

:

This will help more people find the show.

91

:

And please share this episode

with a friend, your co-op,

92

:

or anyone who needs it.

93

:

They'll be glad you did.

94

:

Now, back to the show.

95

:

And it's not just an exhibit hall.

96

:

There are workshop sessions run

by experienced homeschool parents

97

:

and education professionals.

98

:

Real, practical sessions, not vendor

pitches, actually content you can apply.

99

:

Now, here's one thing I wanna

highlight, and this matters

100

:

to us because of who we serve.

101

:

This event is not aligned

with any religious, political,

102

:

or governmental entity.

103

:

It is open to all homeschooling

styles and philosophies: classical,

104

:

Charlotte Mason, unschooling,

eclectic, I'm figuring it out.

105

:

Right?

106

:

You all belong there.

107

:

They built something genuinely

inclusive, and that's pretty rare.

108

:

And the logistics make it accessible.

109

:

$5 a day for adults.

110

:

Children get in free, and you know

we have five kids, so- That's right

111

:

there you go.

112

:

Free parking.

113

:

This is the kind of event

where cost is not a barrier.

114

:

The DFW Expo is June 5th and 6th

at the Hurst Conference Center.

115

:

That's 1601 Campus Drive in Hurst, Texas.

116

:

Tickets and all the details

are at texashomeschoolexpo.com,

117

:

and that link, of course,

is in the show notes.

118

:

$5, people, for a full day,

with your kids getting in free.

119

:

Every homeschooling parent's magic word.

120

:

There's no reason not to come out.

121

:

And the exciting thing is, is we

are speaking twice on Saturday, and

122

:

these two sessions are the two sides

of everything this show is about:

123

:

building the next generation and

funding that work strategically.

124

:

Let me tell you about the first one,

because this one is close to my heart.

125

:

At 12:30 PM on Saturday, we have Born

Ready: From Kid Business to Dream Career.

126

:

This is for students age 8 to

17, and the foundation of it is

127

:

something I believe deeply in.

128

:

Every kid already has something, a natural

ability, a way of thinking, a thing

129

:

that comes easily to them that doesn't

come easily to everyone around them.

130

:

We call it their unfair advantage,

And most kids have never been asked to

131

:

find it, name it, or do anything with

it We change that in this session.

132

:

We walk students through identifying

that gift, understanding why it has real

133

:

value, and then, this is the part I love,

we help them build a business around it.

134

:

Not a someday business, a

business they can start today

135

:

We take them through finding their unfair

advantage, spotting the resources already

136

:

around them that most kids overlook,

choosing a business idea that actually

137

:

fits who they are, building a brand,

and launching with real confidence.

138

:

A kid who learns at 12 that they have

something valuable to offer to the

139

:

world, that lesson doesn't go away.

140

:

It compounds.

141

:

By the time they're adults,

they are operating from a

142

:

completely different foundation.

143

:

And parents are not left behind.

144

:

Everyone walks out with a comprehensive

support guide so you can keep

145

:

that momentum going at home.

146

:

The session ends, but

the work doesn't have to.

147

:

Born Ready is 12:30 PM on Saturday, and

if you're coming with kids, this is the

148

:

session you put on the calendar first.

149

:

And then at 3:00 PM, Crystal is

bringing what she does better

150

:

than almost anyone I know.

151

:

No, scratch that.

152

:

Better than anybody I know.

153

:

Making the financial side of

homeschooling actually make sense.

154

:

At 3:00 PM, we're doing Start Your

Homeschool Money Makeover Today.

155

:

This is for the parents.

156

:

Every parent who has walked through a

curriculum hall and felt that t- that…

157

:

Every parent who has walked through

a curriculum hall and felt that

158

:

quiet tightening in the chest,

"I want all of this for my kids,

159

:

and I don't know how we're gonna

afford it," this session is for you.

160

:

We're gonna walk you through

the five steps of the Homeschool

161

:

Money Makeover system.

162

:

The framework I built is specifically for

families who want to have all the money

163

:

they need to homeschool well and give

their kids an amazing childhood without

164

:

sacrificing their family or their sanity

We're talking about two things here that

165

:

most families don't know how to access.

166

:

Free money, which is real, and

which most homeschooling families

167

:

are leaving on the table.

168

:

And new money, income streams

that actually fit your life.

169

:

Not a side hustle that

takes over your home.

170

:

Something that works alongside

what you're already building.

171

:

That's exactly it.

172

:

The goal is not more stress.

173

:

The goal is more options.

174

:

And families who go through

this system come out on the

175

:

other side with a real plan.

176

:

So meet us at 3:00 PM Saturday at

the Texas Homeschool Expo in Hurst

177

:

Here's what we wanna say to

everyone listening right now.

178

:

If you're in the DFW area or you can make

the drive, we wanna see you there, not

179

:

just at our session, at the whole event.

180

:

Come early, walk the exhibit hall,

attend other workshops, let your

181

:

kids explore, and then come find us.

182

:

We wanna talk to you and meet

you in person face-to-face.

183

:

Because here's what a podcast cannot do.

184

:

It cannot let us hear you.

185

:

Every week we show up in your

earbuds, your car, your kitchen,

186

:

and we don't know who you are.

187

:

We don't know your name.

188

:

We don't know what episode changed

something for your family, or

189

:

what you've been carrying that

nobody else has answered yet.

190

:

We want to know that.

191

:

And we mean that.

192

:

One of the things we look forward

to most at events like this is

193

:

the conversations that happen in

the hallway after the session.

194

:

Someone comes up and says, "Hey,

we tried that thing you talked

195

:

about, and here's what happened."

196

:

That's the feedback that

shapes what we build next.

197

:

You are the reason this

show has a direction.

198

:

Come tell us what you're

building for your family.

199

:

Come tell us where you're stuck.

200

:

Come bring your kids and put them in

Born Ready and watch what happens when

201

:

a kid gets told that what they already

have is enough to start something real.

202

:

June 5th and 6th, Hurst Conference

Center,:

203

:

Born Ready at 12:30 PM.

204

:

3:00 PM, both on Saturday.

205

:

Tickets are just five bucks for adults.

206

:

Kids are free.

207

:

Parking is free.

208

:

That's two frees in one sentence.

209

:

:

texashomeschoolexpo.com.

211

:

212

:

We'll be there all day

Saturday, so just come find us

213

:

One year of the Homeschool

Money Podcast, people.

214

:

I wanna say something before we close.

215

:

When we started this, we

knew the problem was real.

216

:

What a year of showing up has confirmed

is that the people trying to solve it, the

217

:

families in this community, are serious.

218

:

They're not looking for shortcuts.

219

:

They're looking for real tools,

real information, and they do

220

:

the work when they have it.

221

:

That has been the most

encouraging thing about year one.

222

:

And it's the fuel for everything

we're building in year two.

223

:

The episodes we haven't made yet,

the systems we haven't taught yet,

224

:

the stages we haven't stood on yet.

225

:

I feel more clear about this work

than I ever have felt before, and

226

:

I felt pretty clear going into it.

227

:

That clarity only deepens when you

see what happens when families get

228

:

the right information and use it.

229

:

To everyone who has listened,

shared an episode, sent a message,

230

:

tagged a friend, thank you.

231

:

You're not just part of the audience,

you are a part of what this becomes.

232

:

So we'll see you guys in Hurst this

weekend, and if you can't make it, we

233

:

will be right back here next week because

we have so much more to build together.

234

:

Thank you for a year of showing up.
