And now, this week's episode.
Speaker:
00:00:19
With the news that Google Podcasts is closing next year,
Speaker:
00:00:27
what should you be doing for these listeners
Speaker:
00:00:28
that use the Google Podcasts app
Speaker:
00:00:29
to make sure you don't lose them?
Speaker:
00:00:31
Thankfully, there are a few options.
Speaker:
00:00:33
Now, the first one is to move them over to YouTube Music,
Speaker:
00:00:36
which is one of the goals of Google
Speaker:
00:00:37
when it comes to podcasts.
Speaker:
00:00:39
However, not everybody has YouTube Music installed
Speaker:
00:00:41
on their phone, and they might not want to install it.
Speaker:
00:00:44
In that case, you want to take a different approach.
Speaker:
00:00:46
The first one is to have a podcast website.
Speaker:
00:00:49
Now, I've spoken before on an earlier episode
Speaker:
00:00:50
about the benefits of having a podcast website,
Speaker:
00:00:52
and I'll link to that episode in the show notes,
Speaker:
00:00:54
so be sure to check them out.
Speaker:
00:00:56
But the beauty of having a podcast website
Speaker:
00:00:57
is that it doesn't matter what podcast app disappears,
Speaker:
00:01:00
you will always have somewhere to direct your listeners.
Speaker:
00:01:03
Most podcast hosts offer a free website
Speaker:
00:01:04
with their hosting plan, so check out your host for that.
Speaker:
00:01:07
If not, it's easy to set up a free website
Speaker:
00:01:09
using WordPress, Wix, or other tools like that.
Speaker:
00:01:13
Alternatively, another option is to try and move them
Speaker:
00:01:15
to another podcast app.
Speaker:
00:01:17
This is where your podcast analytics come into play,
Speaker:
00:01:19
'cause you can look at them and see which apps
Speaker:
00:01:20
are the most popular for your listeners.
Speaker:
00:01:22
And then from maybe the top three or four,
Speaker:
00:01:24
you can recommend your current Google Podcast listeners
Speaker:
00:01:26
to move to that app.
Speaker:
00:01:27
Now keep in mind, most Google Podcast app listeners will probably be on Android phones,
Speaker:
00:01:31
so make sure you recommend an app that works on Android.
Speaker:
00:01:34
For example, it's no good saying listen on Apple Podcasts if I'm an Android user.
Speaker:
00:01:37
So apps like Spotify, Pocket Casts, GoodPods and more are all good options to direct them to.
Speaker:
00:01:43
The main thing is, is to start encouraging listeners now to make the move.
Speaker:
00:01:46
That way when Google Podcasts does close down,
Speaker:
00:01:48
it won't come as a surprise and your listeners will still be with your show.
Speaker:
00:01:52
Until the next time, happy podcasting.
Speaker:
00:01:55

Speaker:
00:01:57
