Cuz whatever, whatever the challenge is, there's also the gift.
Shelley Bredeson:Exactly.
Shelley Bredeson:You know, so those things that we see as , , maybe like bad things or whatever,
Shelley Bredeson:there's good stuff in that stuff and you don't wanna get rid of that stuff.
Shelley Bredeson:You wanna make a different kind of relationship with it so that it becomes
Shelley Bredeson:your strength instead of something.
Shelley Bredeson:Your mind tells you it's going to kill you
Amanda Lux:Welcome to a Lone Traveler's Guide to the Divine, a podcast for
Amanda Lux:dreamers, seekers, healers, and anyone on their healing journey.
Amanda Lux:This is episode two in the Soul Care series where I'm moving through
Amanda Lux:each of the elements and there are positive and negative pole attributes
Amanda Lux:offering soul-centered support.
Amanda Lux:Soul Care is a multi-dimensional version of self-care that I wrote a book about.
Amanda Lux:Called the Sole Care Workbook, and today we're focusing on the air
Amanda Lux:element, which correlates to the , heart chakra, which rules over the mind.
Amanda Lux:Including our thoughts, words, and our ability to communicate and
Amanda Lux:on the continuum of the negative and positive poles of the air.
Amanda Lux:We have envy and desire on one end and compassion and
Amanda Lux:unconditional love on the other end.
Amanda Lux:So I'll be sharing the poem from the book that's associated with the
Amanda Lux:air in a moment, and an interview with my dear friend and fellow
Amanda Lux:polarity teacher, Shelly Bredeson.
Amanda Lux:Shelly has been a student of energy medicine in polarity therapy,
Amanda Lux:herbal medicine, and astrology for over four decades and has been
Amanda Lux:teaching for a very long time.
Amanda Lux:And I feature Shelly's astrology on my website, which is updated twice
Amanda Lux:monthly, every new and full moon.
Amanda Lux:So you should definitely check those out if you do not.
Amanda Lux:In this interview, Shelly shares how the air has been the source of both
Amanda Lux:her suffering and her power, how energy healing and astrology helped
Amanda Lux:her overcome debilitating anxiety and agoraphobia, and she offers some really
Amanda Lux:humble yet sage advice that I think you will find interesting and supportive
Amanda Lux:So As we transition into the interview with Shelly Bredeson,
Amanda Lux:which is very fun and airy.
Amanda Lux:I'll begin with a short poem that I wrote from the Soul Care workbook on
Amanda Lux:Air, Unstruck, how we swoon and flatter feathers flocking alone together.
Amanda Lux:Communal endeavors that heal and restore promises of forevermore.
Amanda Lux:Spring is breathing.
Amanda Lux:Hearts are beating like a drum.
Amanda Lux:Seeding our dreams of greener grasses.
Amanda Lux:I am.
Amanda Lux:We are Starlight, so bright, happily ever after.
Amanda Lux:Mind over matter, new, fresh, restored rebirthed from the heart of the.
Amanda Lux:To the Greatest Heights flights of Fancy Free You, me, whirling through eternity.
Amanda Lux:So I'm here with my dear friend, Shelly Bredeson, who is in New
Amanda Lux:Mexico currently where she resides.
Amanda Lux:She's brilliant.
Amanda Lux:She's a total genius.
Amanda Lux:She's an incredible astrologer she's a polarity teacher and she's been in this
Amanda Lux:work for so long that she doesn't even realize that she's doing it all the time.
Amanda Lux:she's so steeped in it.
Amanda Lux:She just, and breathes it.
Shelley Bredeson:I do realize that I'm doing it all the time on some
Shelley Bredeson:level, and I think that when I was introduced to Polarity, the reason I
Shelley Bredeson:fell in love with it was because it gave me, a language of what I was already
Shelley Bredeson:doing, but it, it helped me understand it, which the air element loves to.
Shelley Bredeson:Put those pieces together.
Shelley Bredeson:Yes.
, Amanda Lux:yes.
, Amanda Lux:Well, you're one of the airiest people I've ever known in the best possible way.
, Amanda Lux:I just ha it popped into my head like, oh, for the air element, we definitely
, Amanda Lux:need to have this conversation.
, Amanda Lux:You need to be in on this.
, Amanda Lux:Oh, well,
Shelley Bredeson:I am truly honored.
Shelley Bredeson:Really.
Shelley Bredeson:I mean, when you ask me about, so I'm like, oh my God, this is
Shelley Bredeson:like, I, I love the air element.
Shelley Bredeson:I also have some challenges with the air element because I have a lot of air.
Shelley Bredeson:And I do like to bounce because I, well, one of the things how I
Shelley Bredeson:relate to the air is it brings messages, , it moves things around.
Shelley Bredeson:It's not focused.
Shelley Bredeson:We need the fire to focus the air without the fire.
Shelley Bredeson:The air just goes whichever direction it goes in.
Shelley Bredeson:Yeah.
Shelley Bredeson:But it, it, it brings messages it's like, um, Oh, I can't remember where I read.
Shelley Bredeson:It might have been John Beaulieu.
Shelley Bredeson:Was saying it was like the air element is like circles of information within
Shelley Bredeson:circles of information, within circles of information and then you find the
Shelley Bredeson:connections in all of those things.
Shelley Bredeson:It's all in there.
Amanda Lux:I'm curious, how you would put it in your words, Shelly,
Amanda Lux:some of the , quote unquote negative pole qualities of imbalanced air?
Shelley Bredeson:Well air is, , it's associated , with the mind, our
Shelley Bredeson:mental processes and, you know, having these human experiences, everything
Shelley Bredeson:gets translated through the mind.
Shelley Bredeson:So anything that can be, , dysfunctional or uncomfortable around the mind.
Shelley Bredeson:So, , we could have anxiety overwhelm or scattered thinking or, , things
Shelley Bredeson:that, , are maybe not so fun because air also likes to have fun.
Shelley Bredeson:So out of balance, it's not fun.
Shelley Bredeson:Right,
Amanda Lux:right,
Shelley Bredeson:right.
Shelley Bredeson:Yes, yes.
Shelley Bredeson:, one of the things that we were having in conversation earlier
Shelley Bredeson:was, in polarity therapy, Dr.
Shelley Bredeson:Stone put the negative pole of the air element as desire or envy, , so
Shelley Bredeson:I, I would say in balance, in any kind of, , , mental process, which
Shelley Bredeson:there's plenty of that, , , that we all experience to varying degrees,
Amanda Lux:desire and envy.
Amanda Lux:I'm curious what you think, , how do you notice that as an imbalance?
Shelley Bredeson:Uh, desire is an imbalance.
Shelley Bredeson:, in my own personal experience, there's been things that I have, , desired
Shelley Bredeson:or longed for that were not mine to have, or not mine to experience.
Shelley Bredeson:, and they, did not feel good, or did not make me happy, That's kind of
Shelley Bredeson:like the desire of, , wanting something that, isn't aligned with my soul or
Shelley Bredeson:whatever was wanting to come in, that if it doesn't feel good, then that,
Shelley Bredeson:that is maybe the desire that Dr.
Shelley Bredeson:Stone was referring to.
Shelley Bredeson:I mean, any desire that is, like distorted, any desire that takes
Shelley Bredeson:you to the negative poll to get the resource that you need there.
Shelley Bredeson:Because I'm not opposed to negative poll, just so you know, right?
Shelley Bredeson:Yes, yes, yes.
Shelley Bredeson:Yeah, I definitely wanna say that.
Shelley Bredeson:Of course.
Amanda Lux:the air.
Amanda Lux:Also, I just wanna say rules that communications,
Amanda Lux:Right?
Amanda Lux:Mm-hmm.
Amanda Lux:The ways that social media is in our
Amanda Lux:lives and transfers information is very
Amanda Lux:air, it's immediate, it's quick.
Amanda Lux:And that is huge.
Amanda Lux:There's a huge amount of , our time as a culture that we spend in the
Amanda Lux:air, reading and interacting with other people in this very heady way
Amanda Lux:that's not actually embodied right.
Shelley Bredeson:That's why it's so distorted,
Amanda Lux:right On our phones, on our computers, through the
Amanda Lux:news that we're listening to.
Shelley Bredeson:Absolutely.
Shelley Bredeson:I, I agree.
Shelley Bredeson:Yes.
Shelley Bredeson:Yeah.
Amanda Lux:For sure.
Amanda Lux:But also just in, in staying within the realm of the air being the heart chakra.
Amanda Lux:Mm-hmm.
Amanda Lux:Like finding your own frequency of truth that is not emitting judgment Yes.
Amanda Lux:Via envy or desire or discussed or repulsion.
Amanda Lux:Right.
Amanda Lux:That when we're, , coming from a place that's balanced in our own heart space,
Amanda Lux:we can take in information whether or not we agree with it and we don't have to
Amanda Lux:get thrown necessarily off our, our path.
Amanda Lux:Right?
Shelley Bredeson:Yeah.
Shelley Bredeson:It's love.
Shelley Bredeson:What is, yeah.
Shelley Bredeson:The, the higher expression, unconditional love.
Amanda Lux:Right.
Amanda Lux:I, I think another, , issue that is probably really relatable for
Amanda Lux:most people within the air is, well, two that I'm thinking of now.
Amanda Lux:One is overwhelm and the other one is anxiety.
Amanda Lux:And they're a little bit connected.
Amanda Lux:Sometimes overwhelmed can cause anxiety.
Amanda Lux:, especially in the modern world where there is so much information exchange
Amanda Lux:and it's around us all the time and we're being constantly bombarded by it.
Amanda Lux:And that issue we spoke to earlier of the envy and desire being sort of one
Amanda Lux:of the negative pole aspects of the air
Amanda Lux:there is so much information that we're bombarded with and that a lot of times
Amanda Lux:that can be really overwhelming and it.
Amanda Lux:Throw us off in the air element through that experience of
Amanda Lux:judgment or envy or desire.
Amanda Lux:And that's very intentional within marketing.
Amanda Lux:You know, almost all marketing starts with what are the pain points of your
Amanda Lux:targeted audience and how can you solve their problems by emphasizing the
Amanda Lux:fact that they have a problem so that they will need what you have to sell.
Amanda Lux:Absolutely.
Amanda Lux:And we're bombarded with that and it's very intelligent and it's very
Amanda Lux:psychologically damaging, in my opinion.
Shelley Bredeson:Oh, totally, totally.
Shelley Bredeson:Yes.
Amanda Lux:And it's so rampant and we're so used to it , we
Amanda Lux:know we're being bombarded with messages that we're not enough.
Amanda Lux:How do we weed through that?
Amanda Lux:We, we have to like have a level of awareness, when we look at everything.
Amanda Lux:So there's that aspect of the air that we live within.
Amanda Lux:That is, I think, a challenging thing to navigate
Amanda Lux:and that, one of the ways that that imbalance can show up is
Amanda Lux:in overwhelm and or in anxiety.
Amanda Lux:Just the amount of stress and pressure and expectations that people have on
Amanda Lux:themselves and the amount of stress it takes just to live and survive.
Amanda Lux:What comes to you when you think about that?
Amanda Lux:, Shelley Bredeson: in, in terms of
Amanda Lux:first identify where the imbalance is.
Amanda Lux:Are you dealing with a situation that is like that?
Amanda Lux:Is it excess air?
Amanda Lux:And is, is it because there's too much air or is it because there's
Amanda Lux:not enough of the other elements?
Amanda Lux:Right.
Amanda Lux:Because if there's not enough air, the imbalances look very similar.
Amanda Lux:Right.
Amanda Lux:Right.
Amanda Lux:You know, like, I mean, like people who str I mean, I have, I have had, I've
Amanda Lux:dealt with like debilitating anxiety.
Amanda Lux:I mean, to the point where I had a agoraphobia, I wouldn't leave my house
Amanda Lux:for a while, which is how I got into the healing arts in the first place.
Amanda Lux:Hmm.
Amanda Lux:A long time ago.
Amanda Lux:, cause regular medicine didn't work.
Amanda Lux:Because it's an energetic thing.
Amanda Lux:Right?
Amanda Lux:So, , the imbalance of air was like, for me All the right thinking in the
Amanda Lux:world was not gonna change that for me.
Amanda Lux:. It wasn't.
Amanda Lux:I had to get out of my mind . And into my body.
Amanda Lux:Like getting out in nature or getting body work, especially a polarity session,
Amanda Lux:hello, because they work deliberately with those elements is, , really beneficial.
Amanda Lux:You personally like you had too much air and it
Amanda Lux:was resulting in anxiety.
Amanda Lux:Yes.
Amanda Lux:And that resulted in a agoraphobia where you were not able to leave your home.
Amanda Lux:Correct.
Amanda Lux:And at that point you said conventional medicine just wasn't working for you.
Amanda Lux:You turned to energy medicine.
Amanda Lux:Was that when you first turned to energy medicine or was that down the road?
Amanda Lux:Had you already experimented or explored it?
, Shelley Bredeson:I was very young, so, I mean, I wasn't even, , aware of,
, Shelley Bredeson:, what was out there and I was introduced to, , , I don't know what came first.
, Shelley Bredeson:There was either an astrology reading or there was, , , the energy worker,
, Shelley Bredeson:this guy did this thing called Hands-on Healing, where he just worked with energy.
, Shelley Bredeson:That's what he called it, hands-on healing.
, Shelley Bredeson:It, it helped me relax back into my body.
, Shelley Bredeson:I was like out of my body.
, Shelley Bredeson:Mm-hmm.
, Shelley Bredeson:And it, I could feel the energy and it helped me get feel . Safe in my
, Shelley Bredeson:body because like, he didn't touch me.
, Shelley Bredeson:I mean, when you're in a state of anxiety, it's like, , hyper,
, Shelley Bredeson:anything with a hyper on it probably has a correlation to too much air.
, Shelley Bredeson:Mm-hmm.
, Shelley Bredeson:Mm-hmm.
, Shelley Bredeson:So that was, that was something that was really cool.
, Shelley Bredeson:When that was happening, I felt myself returned to my body.
, Shelley Bredeson:I felt safe in my body.
, Shelley Bredeson:I could breathe and I could reconnect with things.
, Shelley Bredeson:And then I could start like gathering my thoughts and even
, Shelley Bredeson:seeing what I was thinking.
, Shelley Bredeson:Cuz when I was in the state of anxiety, the thoughts were
, Shelley Bredeson:just like, I'm gonna die.
, Shelley Bredeson:Something's taking over me.
, Shelley Bredeson:I'm crazy.
, Shelley Bredeson:There's no managing your thoughts when you're in that state, right?
, Shelley Bredeson:With that kind of anxiety.
, Shelley Bredeson:There's no Right.
, Shelley Bredeson:Think.
, Shelley Bredeson:Yeah, there isn't.
, Shelley Bredeson:Like I did talk therapy, I did psychiatry, I tried medications, I did all that stuff.
, Shelley Bredeson:None of that worked.
, Shelley Bredeson:The talk therapy made it worse,
Amanda Lux:right?
Amanda Lux:Yeah.
Amanda Lux:Just too much air.
Amanda Lux:Yeah, too
Shelley Bredeson:much.
Shelley Bredeson:Yes, yes.
Shelley Bredeson:, so that was very useful.
Shelley Bredeson:And then the astrology thing was like, it was still words,
Shelley Bredeson:but it was coming at it from a.
Shelley Bredeson:Perspective where all these dots connected.
Shelley Bredeson:And then there was this understanding of, oh, it's a soul contract.
Shelley Bredeson:Cool.
Shelley Bredeson:So somehow that just made it okay.
Shelley Bredeson:Right.
Shelley Bredeson:And then I started dealing with it because then it was like, , oh cool, well
Shelley Bredeson:I understand this and this is just kind of like what I've a agreed to work with.
Shelley Bredeson:So I mean, there's gotta be some wisdom in this.
Shelley Bredeson:Right,
Amanda Lux:right.
Amanda Lux:I love that.
Amanda Lux:It is information.
Amanda Lux:It's meeting the air.
Amanda Lux:In the air, yes.
Amanda Lux:But it gives you connections and context for maybe why you're experiencing
Amanda Lux:what you're experiencing right now.
Amanda Lux:And maybe even could validate within that larger context how this is part of your
Amanda Lux:growth and what you came here to overcome
Shelley Bredeson:or work with.
Shelley Bredeson:Or work with.
Shelley Bredeson:Yeah.
Shelley Bredeson:Cuz whatever, whatever the challenge is, there's also the gift.
Shelley Bredeson:Your mind tells you it's going to kill you
Amanda Lux:Well, I just love too, that, like for you in your story, in
Amanda Lux:your healer's journey actually, you were dealing with this air imbalance
Amanda Lux:that led to extreme anxiety and that what worked for you was energy work
Amanda Lux:and hands-on healing and astrology.
Amanda Lux:And those are the two things that you've been doing.
Amanda Lux:Yes.
Amanda Lux:Like for over 40 years so what would you say those gifts were for you of
Amanda Lux:having that experience of the anxiety?
Shelley Bredeson:It brought me more to myself.
Shelley Bredeson:Yeah.
Shelley Bredeson:Yes.
Shelley Bredeson:In my expression.
Shelley Bredeson:, the gift of the anxiety was that , it was the doorway that opened up a
Shelley Bredeson:path that I didn't even know existed.
Shelley Bredeson:. , that I felt connected to.
Shelley Bredeson:That I will be continuing on in this lifetime.
Shelley Bredeson:And maybe it's from a past lifetime too, so maybe someday I will know everything
Shelley Bredeson:there is to know about astrology.
Shelley Bredeson:Not in this lifetime, but it's just something that has it, it feels aligned,
Shelley Bredeson:it feels connected, it feels meaningful.
Shelley Bredeson:It feels like there's purpose.
Shelley Bredeson:Not just for myself, but this is also how I connect with everything in life.
Shelley Bredeson:It's how I can be in service to others.
Shelley Bredeson:It's how I can be in service to life.
Shelley Bredeson:It's just, it's, it's in my resonance.
Shelley Bredeson:It's in my field.
Shelley Bredeson:And so if it wasn't for the anxiety, I wouldn't have found my own resonance.
Shelley Bredeson:I guess it would be how I would say that
Amanda Lux:That's really beautiful.
Amanda Lux:So just moving through your own imbalance with the air element and
Amanda Lux:the anxiety specifically, you were able to discover your own resonance
Amanda Lux:and some deeper way of being related to yourself, and that informed how
Amanda Lux:you relate with the rest of the world
Shelley Bredeson:and how I can serve.
Amanda Lux:Yes.
Amanda Lux:Right.
Amanda Lux:Well, specifically it sounds like the things that worked for you became
Amanda Lux:tools that you started utilizing for yourself and then sharing
Amanda Lux:with others and then teaching.
Amanda Lux:Yes.
Amanda Lux:And that's been your life path.
Amanda Lux:And that was all started with, I have an imbalance and the tools that work
Amanda Lux:for me now, that's what I'm here to do.
Amanda Lux:And without that imbalance, you wouldn't have been introduced
Amanda Lux:maybe to the profound healing capacity of energy work or astrology
Shelley Bredeson:or any of the natural healing, cuz they, you know.
Shelley Bredeson:Right.
Shelley Bredeson:You know this path.
Shelley Bredeson:One door opens up to another door and there's so much to explore.
Amanda Lux:Right?
Amanda Lux:Yes.
Amanda Lux:Yes.
Amanda Lux:And I know you are an explorer.
Amanda Lux:Yes.
Amanda Lux:And you've opened many, many doors.
Amanda Lux:. And I just love that perspective and just that how that has
Amanda Lux:been for you, if somebody else.
Amanda Lux:That's listening to this was experiencing acute anxiety or knew
Amanda Lux:somebody that was, and what would you say to them about that, that journey?
Shelley Bredeson:I could speak to my own personal experience and just say that,
Shelley Bredeson:you know, just because I was introduced to those things doesn't mean that
Shelley Bredeson:that journey was like, oh, I'm healed.
Shelley Bredeson:No, this is a lifelong journey.
Shelley Bredeson:Right, right.
Shelley Bredeson:It's, I mean, I can still get very anxious.
Shelley Bredeson:, I've definitely got a lot more tools, but it's still, part of my sole contract.
Shelley Bredeson:I'm still working with it.
Shelley Bredeson:It's the, the wound that becomes the gift.
Shelley Bredeson:So what I would say to somebody else, it's like, for me it was, it was just
Shelley Bredeson:like feeling completely out of control.
Shelley Bredeson:You can't control the way the wind blows, right?
Shelley Bredeson:Yeah.
Shelley Bredeson:You can't control, , anything outside of yourself really.
Shelley Bredeson:You can, control what your choice in the moment, and that's
Shelley Bredeson:all there is, is the moment.
Shelley Bredeson:Yeah.
Shelley Bredeson:When you're in that kinda state.
Shelley Bredeson:, But I would definitely also say that, the things that that help
Shelley Bredeson:me are getting out of my head or using my mind to make connections
Shelley Bredeson:with things that are not related to the thing that's throwing me off.
Shelley Bredeson:Because there's already too much energy on that thing.
Shelley Bredeson:Right,
Amanda Lux:right.
Amanda Lux:. I'm hearing that one way that you
Amanda Lux:you to balance the air for yourself.
Amanda Lux:Being a very airy person who has experienced extreme imbalances
Amanda Lux:in the air that have been part of your soul journey, , that coming to
Amanda Lux:the body is really a helpful way.
Amanda Lux:Being in nature is really a helpful way.
Amanda Lux:Yes.
Amanda Lux:If somebody is not sure what that means, like, what do you
Amanda Lux:mean by coming to the body?
Amanda Lux:How would you describe that?
, Shelley Bredeson:it would be the earth element for those who speak that language.
, Shelley Bredeson:You know, focusing on here and now and like noticing.
, Shelley Bredeson:My fingers noticing, my hands touching the body.
, Shelley Bredeson:There's actually a really good point to work is like on , the ball
, Shelley Bredeson:of the foot there, it's a air zone , and you can . , touch deep
, Shelley Bredeson:into the, that ball, underneath your toes on the bottom of your foot.
, Shelley Bredeson:And that really can bring you home right now, right?
, Shelley Bredeson:Yes.
, Shelley Bredeson:Just like start making, start making like the opposite of air, like deep,
, Shelley Bredeson:slow connections into the foot, opening up that foot . Breathing.
, Shelley Bredeson:Focusing on the breath, using your mind to focus on how the breath feels
, Shelley Bredeson:coming into your body that's using the air to get in touch with your body.
Amanda Lux:So utilizing polarity reflexology, which
Amanda Lux:is a whole thing unto itself.
Amanda Lux:Mm-hmm.
Amanda Lux:You could go work the zone of the air element, which is just
Amanda Lux:under the toes in that ball of the foot going across , the foot.
Amanda Lux:Horizontally.
Amanda Lux:You could work that with deep penetrating pressure, which
Amanda Lux:would be more earthy touch.
Amanda Lux:Right.
Amanda Lux:So that's kind of taking on the opposite quality of the
Amanda Lux:air, which is quick and light.
Amanda Lux:Mm-hmm.
Amanda Lux:This would be deep and slow.
Amanda Lux:And so using deep, slow touch and then also you were saying, um, breath.
Amanda Lux:Really meeting the air in the air with breath.
Amanda Lux:And would you say breathing slower again, like slowing it down a
Amanda Lux:little bit would be helpful?
Shelley Bredeson:Yes.
Shelley Bredeson:Yes.
Shelley Bredeson:Mm-hmm.
Shelley Bredeson:But again, you know, yeah.
Shelley Bredeson:I mean, sometimes you have to meet things where it is.
Shelley Bredeson:And if you're real jacked up that maybe you just pay attention to
Shelley Bredeson:and you start panting and then you, but you do it intentionally.
Shelley Bredeson:Yes.
Shelley Bredeson:Right.
Amanda Lux:Love that.
Amanda Lux:Absolutely.
Amanda Lux:I mean, and I love that you keep bringing this up about
Amanda Lux:meeting things where they are.
Amanda Lux:And that's another aspect of polarity in how we would treat anything is
Amanda Lux:first, before you take it somewhere new, you wanna meet it where it is.
Amanda Lux:Yes.
Amanda Lux:And so if the experience is like chest breathing and it's quick and it's
Amanda Lux:shallow, then you start by bringing some intentionality and maybe even accentuating
Amanda Lux:what already is happening so that you can.
Amanda Lux:Observe and become conscious of what you're doing, first off, right?
Amanda Lux:And then from there you can begin to offer it new direction,
Shelley Bredeson:yes.
Shelley Bredeson:Yes.
Shelley Bredeson:Love that.
Shelley Bredeson:Yeah, love that.
Shelley Bredeson:I mean, and there's a lot more, but I'm curious, like what,
Shelley Bredeson:what do you do for your anxiety
Amanda Lux:For me, definitely like going to the fire.
Amanda Lux:Yes, that makes sense.
Amanda Lux:So for me, I would say that it's movement, you know, just being in motion helps.
Amanda Lux:If I'm sitting still, I can get very mental and I can get spinning out,
Amanda Lux:and especially in the middle of the night, sometimes if I wake up,
Amanda Lux:can't go back to sleep, that's when I experience what I would call anxiety.
Amanda Lux:Some of that's hormonal and I've learned how to meet that with different
Amanda Lux:herbs and diet, different ways of, uh, allowing my energy to reorganize.
Amanda Lux:But when that does occur because of stress or, or just life or
Amanda Lux:whatever, um, definitely what has helped me is to just be really
Amanda Lux:engaged physically as much as I can.
Amanda Lux:So with yoga or with running, those are the two.
Amanda Lux:Sometimes running is better for me when I have anxiety because it, it is
Amanda Lux:that thing of meeting it where it is.
Amanda Lux:It's too hard to slow down and get to the mat.
Amanda Lux:Mm-hmm.
Amanda Lux:You know, it's too hard to sit and meditate.
Amanda Lux:I can't meditate when I'm in that state.
Amanda Lux:No way.
Amanda Lux:So it's, you know, meeting it where it is.
Amanda Lux:Dancing is huge for me.
Amanda Lux:I do a lot of dance and sometimes that's dancing in my room or
Amanda Lux:dancing in, you know, community.
Amanda Lux:Mm-hmm.
Amanda Lux:But that really helps to kind of exhaust that energy that's spinning out.
Shelley Bredeson:Right.
Shelley Bredeson:I love that.
Shelley Bredeson:I love that.
Shelley Bredeson:I love that too because the fire element for me is what I do
Shelley Bredeson:when my air is not moving at all.
Shelley Bredeson:Right?
Shelley Bredeson:Yeah.
Shelley Bredeson:So it's like, how our constitutions are different really depends on
Shelley Bredeson:how we would approach something,
Amanda Lux:right?
Amanda Lux:Yeah.
Amanda Lux:Yeah.
Amanda Lux:So yeah, it can be helpful to go to the physical , when we don't have
Amanda Lux:enough air and we need to get it going.
Amanda Lux:And it's like you were saying, also helpful if we have too much
Amanda Lux:and we need to calm it down,
Shelley Bredeson:right.
Shelley Bredeson:For somebody, like, I don't have any fire.
Shelley Bredeson:Yes.
Shelley Bredeson:In my, in my constitution.
Shelley Bredeson:I mean, you know, we all have all those elements for sure.
Shelley Bredeson:But that's , the one that's in my natal constitution,
Shelley Bredeson:that's lacking., I got Earth.
Shelley Bredeson:So it's like I go to my other element that's strong, right?
Shelley Bredeson:To help me, like get , the thing that's outta balance, back into balance, right?
Shelley Bredeson:You could go to that thing that's strong for you, you're, you're a fire,
Amanda Lux:right?
Amanda Lux:Right.
Amanda Lux:Yes.
Amanda Lux:And that makes sense too.
Amanda Lux:Like that's really one way that information through astrology or polarity
Amanda Lux:can help you make those connections.
Amanda Lux:Like where are your strengths.
Amanda Lux:Mm-hmm.
Amanda Lux:And I would say for anybody listening, they're not, , Exploring those different
Amanda Lux:healing arts and they're just curious in the moment how to identify that.
Amanda Lux:Mm-hmm.
Amanda Lux:I'm curious how you would say, how would somebody identify, what are they, where
Amanda Lux:are their strengths, constitutionally speaking, that they could go to?
Shelley Bredeson:I should probably put something on my website
Shelley Bredeson:that people could do that with.
Shelley Bredeson:Yes.
Shelley Bredeson:Cause I have this whole form made up, I'm going to put a little
Shelley Bredeson:video out there on how to determine your elemental constitution
Shelley Bredeson:based on your astrology chart.
Amanda Lux:Oh, love it.
Amanda Lux:Okay.
Amanda Lux:So if you wanna know more about your elemental constitution based
Amanda Lux:on your astrology chart, just go to Shelly's website and you can watch her
Amanda Lux:little video and she'll explain it.
Shelley Bredeson:Right.
Shelley Bredeson:But I won't be doing that until mid April cuz of my son is coming to visit me.
Shelley Bredeson:Yes.
Amanda Lux:Okay.
Amanda Lux:So look for that after mid-April
Shelley Bredeson:2023.
Shelley Bredeson:Yes.
Amanda Lux:And my last series of episodes are all about the elements and how you
Amanda Lux:can , recognize them in or out of balance.
Amanda Lux:And this series is going deeper with even more soul care
Amanda Lux:oriented ways to tend to those.
Amanda Lux:So I think this is perfect for the air because it's all about information, right?
Amanda Lux:The first thing to do is to find out that information.
Amanda Lux:Where am I strong or where am I imbalanced?
Amanda Lux:Where elementally do I tend to hang out comfortably, and
Amanda Lux:where am I getting stuck, right?
Amanda Lux:Mm-hmm.
Shelley Bredeson:I agree.
Amanda Lux:Good.
Amanda Lux:Yeah.
Amanda Lux:And knowing that, you know, sometimes that place that we get stuck, like you
Amanda Lux:were saying, Shelly is also our strength.
Amanda Lux:Right?
Amanda Lux:Our weakest place is also sometimes our strongest.
Shelley Bredeson:Yes, yes.
Shelley Bredeson:. There's gifts there.
Shelley Bredeson:I mean, always.
Shelley Bredeson:Yeah.
Amanda Lux:I think that's a piece that a lot of people can really
Amanda Lux:relate with, like resource around.
Amanda Lux:Cause we all go there sometimes, right?
Amanda Lux:Maybe not everyone.
Amanda Lux:I don't
Shelley Bredeson:know.
Shelley Bredeson:Or, I mean, well, the opposite.
Shelley Bredeson:The opposite pull of that is depression.
Shelley Bredeson:Yes.
Shelley Bredeson:Right.
Shelley Bredeson:And it's like that depression can also be related to an air imbalance, right?
Shelley Bredeson:We, we tend to think anxiety, but you can burn your air.
Shelley Bredeson:, you can have an air overload and burn it out and then there's nothing, you
Shelley Bredeson:know, then you go down to depression.
Shelley Bredeson:Cuz I've been there too from too much air, right?
Shelley Bredeson:So like a deep depression where you can't move because there's no movement.
Shelley Bredeson:Yes.
Amanda Lux:Right?
Amanda Lux:Yes.
Amanda Lux:When the wind stops blowing and your, sailboat can't go anywhere.
Amanda Lux:Yeah.
Amanda Lux:The ship is sinking.
Amanda Lux:Yep.
Shelley Bredeson:Yep.
Shelley Bredeson:There's that.
Shelley Bredeson:And a lot of times the things that work for, it's not always the true,
Shelley Bredeson:but I mean, typically the anxiety and depression live on the same pole.
Shelley Bredeson:You know, they're opposite ends of the same pole.
Shelley Bredeson:So what works for one can work for the other.
Shelley Bredeson:Mm-hmm.
Shelley Bredeson:Yeah.
Amanda Lux:Energetically speaking, right?
Amanda Lux:Yes,
Shelley Bredeson:It's gather the information, listen to the
Shelley Bredeson:messages, find your resource.
Amanda Lux:I would say that air is also like heart medicine.
Amanda Lux:It's the heart chakra.
Amanda Lux:And so one of the things that comes into mind as medicinal wherever we are
Amanda Lux:on that continuum, feeling anxious or feeling depressed, is compassion, I
Amanda Lux:think of the heart as being a really beautiful place to cultivate compassion.
Amanda Lux:And that especially directed inward towards ourself can
Amanda Lux:be its own kind of medicine.
Shelley Bredeson:Definitely.
Shelley Bredeson:. Yeah.
Shelley Bredeson:That's like that unconditional love thing, I definitely try
Shelley Bredeson:to live in that all the time.
Shelley Bredeson:Yeah.
Shelley Bredeson:But you know, there's times when you can't do it for the self, it's okay to start
Shelley Bredeson:doing it for the things outside of you.
Shelley Bredeson:Yes.
Shelley Bredeson:And then bring it back.
Shelley Bredeson:If you can do it from the self and then put it out, it's like, wow.
Shelley Bredeson:Right.
Shelley Bredeson:You know, it's like super, super potent and powerful, but sometimes it's okay
Shelley Bredeson:to start outside of the self as long as you're willing to bring that back in.
Amanda Lux:Right.
Amanda Lux:My daughter led a meditation
Amanda Lux:we were singing this beautiful song, they're a very air, heart-centered
Amanda Lux:person, and I actually interviewed them for my air episode in the last series.
Amanda Lux:Oh.
Amanda Lux:And, um, I heard that, yes.
Amanda Lux:Yeah.
Amanda Lux:They shared a song that was all just beautiful heart energy.
Amanda Lux:It was just our family sitting around Christmas day.
Amanda Lux:And they were sharing this song and then they led us just immediately
Amanda Lux:into this guided meditation that was so powerful, just impromptu, cuz we
Amanda Lux:were all in that beautiful place of singing together and harmonizing.
Amanda Lux:And then we kind of landed and then they started speaking about imagining that
Amanda Lux:you were holding yourself as an infant.
Amanda Lux:And just rocking your own infant body, right?
Amanda Lux:And holding it to your heart and just loving it and loving this infant self.
Amanda Lux:And maybe what does it need, you know, from you.
Shelley Bredeson:I love that you know, if you feel like you can't, give yourself
Shelley Bredeson:that right now in the moment as an adult with all your, whatever perceived flaws.
Shelley Bredeson:Like at one time you were a perfect infant.
Shelley Bredeson:You could love that too.
Shelley Bredeson:That is so beautiful.
Shelley Bredeson:Yeah.
Amanda Lux:Yes.
Amanda Lux:Yeah.
Amanda Lux:So beautiful.
Amanda Lux:I think we were all crying.
Shelley Bredeson:I
Amanda Lux:bet.
Amanda Lux:I so beautiful.
Amanda Lux:I've also heard it, you know, offered, , where you could imagine
Amanda Lux:a pet that you have loved, right?
Amanda Lux:And then kind of bringing that inward into your heart, that
Amanda Lux:love back at you, recognizing it's just a mirror for ourselves.
Amanda Lux:And if we can't even love ourselves a as an infant, sometimes
Amanda Lux:we can love a pet, you know?
Amanda Lux:Mm-hmm.
Shelley Bredeson:Where you gone with this, I really like this too,
Shelley Bredeson:and I can definitely correlate this back to air because it's like, how
Shelley Bredeson:are you directing your thoughts?
Shelley Bredeson:How are you directing your mind?
Shelley Bredeson:What are you gonna do with your imagination?
Shelley Bredeson:.
Shelley Bredeson:Yes.
Shelley Bredeson:Right.
Shelley Bredeson:And it's the, it's the fire that breathes the life into the possibilities.
Shelley Bredeson:It's like the thing that heats those up and makes those into something.
Shelley Bredeson:That's what,
Amanda Lux:right.
Amanda Lux:Yes.
Amanda Lux:Brings it more into manifestation.
Amanda Lux:I love the idea that that one way to work with the air is through the imagination,
Amanda Lux:through words, through affirmation.
Amanda Lux:Right.
Shelley Bredeson:What you do with those words, what you do with that
Shelley Bredeson:imagination, what you do with the, the, we are like our, our minds.
Shelley Bredeson:If we could hear everything that's going on in our minds, we'd be insane.
Shelley Bredeson:But if you, stop a minute and tune in, and then which things are
Shelley Bredeson:you giving, which things are you giving your attention to, right?
Shelley Bredeson:With those thoughts that come in, what, what thoughts are
Shelley Bredeson:you giving your attention to?
Shelley Bredeson:Because you get to choose that,
Amanda Lux:right?
Amanda Lux:Unless you're not conscious of what you are paying attention to.
Amanda Lux:And then you don't have choice
Amanda Lux:a friend of mine said to me once that, we were doing some peer coaching, and
Amanda Lux:there was this recurring issue that I kept speaking to, that each time we would meet,
Amanda Lux:I'd be like, oh, this is still off for me.
Amanda Lux:You know, this recurring issue.
Amanda Lux:I can't even remember what the issue was anymore.
Amanda Lux:Right.
Amanda Lux:I might still be dealing with it.
Amanda Lux:I don't know, but I remember, doesn't sound like it.
Amanda Lux:It certainly doesn't have as much energy as it did at that point some years ago.
Amanda Lux:But what was really profound to me in the moment was she pointed out
Amanda Lux:to me, she's like, that's quite the mantra you've got going on,
Amanda Lux:that you're not enough in this way.
Amanda Lux:And do you really want to be affirming that?
Amanda Lux:Day in, day out, week in, week out, you've said this like a hundred times now.
Amanda Lux:Mm-hmm.
Amanda Lux:And I was like, whoa.
Amanda Lux:For some reason, just the way she posed that to me really helped me
Amanda Lux:to see that unconsciously I was reaffirming this issue by stating
Amanda Lux:it over and over again as my truth.
Amanda Lux:Mm-hmm.
Amanda Lux:And that I was limiting myself by the way that I was attached to this issue.
Amanda Lux:I was recreating the issue for myself and almost like affirming it, you
Amanda Lux:know, like, like you would speak in affirmation, like, I am worthy.
Amanda Lux:I was unconsciously using the power of my voice and my thoughts to feed this idea
Amanda Lux:that I did not want to participate in.
Amanda Lux:And I kept trying to approach it from different ways and give
Amanda Lux:myself different tools to meet it.
Amanda Lux:And it kept persisting.
Amanda Lux:And so I think what I decided to do at that point was get really conscious
Amanda Lux:of how I was speaking about it.
Amanda Lux:Mm-hmm.
Amanda Lux:And try to reframe it.
Amanda Lux:And then also I did some opposite affirmations right around the issue.
Amanda Lux:It's hilarious that I can't remember what the issue was, but,
Shelley Bredeson:well, you know, I mean, this, this brings
Shelley Bredeson:me to a whole nother tool.
Shelley Bredeson:That I believe is true, our words are spells.
Shelley Bredeson:Yes, totally.
Shelley Bredeson:They're really magic.
Shelley Bredeson:The words that we use create magic, magic, light, magic, whatever you wanna call it.
Shelley Bredeson:But there's like the e that ef f t, that tapping tool, they tap out
Shelley Bredeson:the negative things, and then they put in the positive things, right?
Shelley Bredeson:So you, tap on like energy points.
Shelley Bredeson:They have specific ones, but I think you could tap, I think you
Shelley Bredeson:could do that intuitively actually.
Shelley Bredeson:Right.
Shelley Bredeson:You know, where does it need to tap?
Shelley Bredeson:Yes.
Shelley Bredeson:Right.
Shelley Bredeson:Tap where, and tap, tap out that stuff with the intention of tapping
Shelley Bredeson:it out and then tapping it in.
Shelley Bredeson:I mean, like a lot of times I'll just tap on my thymus, right?
Shelley Bredeson:This is my go-to now when I start feeling anxious, , I'll just
Shelley Bredeson:like, Tap right here and breathe.
Shelley Bredeson:And it's like, okay, everything's good.
Shelley Bredeson:So
Amanda Lux:lightly tapping with your fingers on your chest, on your
Amanda Lux:thymus, over your heart chakra.
Amanda Lux:And I love that you brought up E F T in case anybody doesn't know what that is.
Amanda Lux:It's energy freedom technique.
Amanda Lux:And you can look that up, , but there's specific coordinates, certain
Amanda Lux:energy points that you would tap on saying these words in a certain order.
Amanda Lux:But you could do that intuitively.
Amanda Lux:And I love that.
Amanda Lux:I love the way you brought that in, , that for you, one way to meet your
Amanda Lux:anxiety when it does come up is to just tap lightly there on the thymus.
Amanda Lux:. You could say, first the limiting belief, the challenge and then
Amanda Lux:you could replace it, right?
Amanda Lux:With the one that feels, well, what's the truth you're choosing consciously
Amanda Lux:instead of the one that you're running unconsciously in reacting to.
Shelley Bredeson:Right.
Shelley Bredeson:So what is the truth that you choose for yourself now after
Shelley Bredeson:that last limiting belief?
Amanda Lux:Are you asking me directly?
Amanda Lux:Yes.
Amanda Lux:I can't remember the exact limiting belief right.
Amanda Lux:That I was dealing with at that time when she said it.
Amanda Lux:But I've had many, Shelly, I'm a human being on my spiritual journey.
Amanda Lux:Yes.
Amanda Lux:And I've had many limiting beliefs, and I have done this with many of them.
Amanda Lux:I would say one of the most prevalent that, uh, I have dealt
Amanda Lux:with is just not enough time.
Amanda Lux:I don't have enough time, and I make myself so busy and I
Amanda Lux:have this mantra that I run.
Amanda Lux:I don't have enough time, or I'm too busy, I'm overwhelmed.
Amanda Lux:Yes, yes.
Amanda Lux:And that's a belief.
Amanda Lux:It's also a condition that I have then created mm-hmm.
Amanda Lux:In response to that belief.
Amanda Lux:And it's a feedback loop.
Amanda Lux:It's a cycle.
Amanda Lux:And, We do call.
Amanda Lux:Loops in polarity, that's in the second communications class.
Amanda Lux:We dissect those and how to break 'em.
Amanda Lux:Right, right, right.
Amanda Lux:Break free of our loops.
Amanda Lux:There are methods to that within polarity in the more advanced ways.
Amanda Lux:But, you know, I think this is an interesting conversation because Right.
Amanda Lux:Thinking or being conscious of how you're thinking and choosing, , healthful
Amanda Lux:thought patterns that can propel you in the direction you wanna go
Amanda Lux:is an aspect of polarity therapy.
Amanda Lux:That is a way that we, that we meet energy.
Amanda Lux:Because energy does come through thoughts and it comes through words.
Amanda Lux:Yes.
Amanda Lux:Thoughts.
Amanda Lux:And I love what you said about words are spells, which is true
Amanda Lux:because what do spells do is they create something out of nothing.
Amanda Lux:Right?
Amanda Lux:Yes.
Amanda Lux:And that's what words do too.
Amanda Lux:We speak something, we're giving energy to it.
Amanda Lux:Eventually, if there's enough energy there, it becomes form.
Amanda Lux:And the first step of that is to speak it.
Amanda Lux:So what are the spells that we have?
Amanda Lux:I think the
Shelley Bredeson:first step is to
Amanda Lux:think it.
Amanda Lux:Think it, speak it.
Amanda Lux:Yeah.
Amanda Lux:Yes.
Shelley Bredeson:Once you speak it, it's getting that much closer to form.
Shelley Bredeson:Oh, for sure.
Shelley Bredeson:Now in the material
Amanda Lux:world.
Amanda Lux:Yes.
Amanda Lux:It's now here with, with a vibration that is measurable, right?
Amanda Lux:Yes.
Amanda Lux:Yeah.
Amanda Lux:So how do we wanna use that power, ? The power of our words
Amanda Lux:and the power of our thoughts.
Amanda Lux:How do we wanna use those?
Amanda Lux:Right.
Amanda Lux:A good question.
Amanda Lux:I mean, , I utilize affirmations a ton.
Amanda Lux:I always.
Amanda Lux:Ever since I was little, I grew up with Louise Hay, like, you know, grow.
Amanda Lux:I grew up with the, the whole new age thing of, words were medicine.
Amanda Lux:Yes.
Amanda Lux:Specific ailments.
Amanda Lux:And they are medicine.
Amanda Lux:Yes.
Amanda Lux:I'm just saying like, as a child, I started to work with that as a
Amanda Lux:child and it was so powerful for me, you know, having that experience.
Amanda Lux:Yet I still didn't catch, you know, we're always a work in progress,
Amanda Lux:but I still didn't catch that time when my friend pointed it out to me.
Amanda Lux:Oh, that's an interesting mantra.
Amanda Lux:Yes, yes.
Amanda Lux:What kinda spell are you weaving there?
Shelley Bredeson:Well, if you didn't have a friend to talk to you
Shelley Bredeson:about that, how would've you even known that you were doing that?
Shelley Bredeson:Right?
Amanda Lux:Yes.
Amanda Lux:Yes.
Amanda Lux:Well, we are, we are reflections for each other and we do
Amanda Lux:need connections, you know?
Amanda Lux:That is very helpful.
Amanda Lux:Is there any kind of completing thoughts that you wanna share, Shelly?
Amanda Lux:Anything that would feel like it would wrap up this conversation?
Shelley Bredeson:No, I just want to thank you so much for, asking
Shelley Bredeson:me to do this with you and having a conversation with you.
Shelley Bredeson:I just, I love you, number one.
Shelley Bredeson:Aww.
Shelley Bredeson:But I, I love your podcast.
Shelley Bredeson:I listen all the time.
Shelley Bredeson:I actually, I love everything you do.
Shelley Bredeson:Aw.
Shelley Bredeson:You're just such a true, authentic, loving, caring, beautiful soul,

Shelley Bredeson:I really believe that you are.
Shelley Bredeson:You are holding something for all of us, and you're sharing
Shelley Bredeson:something for all of us too.
Shelley Bredeson:So I'm just, I'm so grateful to be with you, so thank you so much.
Amanda Lux:Aw, Shelly, thank you so much that I really take that
Amanda Lux:into my heart and receive your words and I feel so, so honored.
Amanda Lux:So thank you for sharing that.
Amanda Lux:And I'm also really honored just to have you have you here and sharing your wisdom.
Amanda Lux:Thank you.
Amanda Lux:Yes, and I really look forward to co-teaching with you.
