My Dad’s sister, my Aunt Vivian, is a Brooklyn native and the Matriarch of our family. At the time of this Episode release (Jan 2024) she just turned 87 years old and she is one of the best storytellers I know.
She has taught multiple generations how to cook “with love” and her eggplant parmigiana, potato croquettes and Sunday sauce will put anyone in the most glorious food coma.
When I was home for Christmas, I asked her if she was up to recording a favorite family recipe with me...and what ensued was the funniest recount of some of our family’s history along with a heartfelt conversation with one of my most favorite people on the planet.
Listen in as she takes us through:
- The Coveted Recipe for Grandma's Italian Cream
- Tips for bottling this magical beverage
- Her thoughts on enhancing the drink with additional spirits (and which ones to use)
- How my great-grandparents' entrepreneurial spirit kept the family comfortable through the depression and prohibition
It’s fun. And funny. And you’ll thank me when you make this recipe! (And yes, she blessed me sharing this with all of you).
