On this podcast episode, Yemi and Philia discuss the miracle Jesus performed when he healed a man with dropsy (Luke 14:1-6). In this miracle story, Jesus is invited to a feast on the sabbath and seated across from a man suffering from extreme swelling (dropsy/edema). Because Jesus is Jesus, he desires to heal the man but knowing he was being watched and that this is perhaps a set up he poses a rhetorical question to the table about saving a child or ox that fell into a well on the sabbath. After this question, he heals the man and gives more lessons on compassion. We know that God is a compassionate God because we see Jesus's character. Jesus leads with compassion no matter the situation, even if it's a set up to take him down for "working" on a sabbath. He defies tradition in the face of traditionalists to ensure that someone in his presence does not have to suffer any longer. What would you do in the face of opposition, would you still show compassion? Maybe the question is not about what you should do, but about what Jesus would do and then follow.
