Nathan:

Matthew 18:6 (NKJV): Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

Jesus. Matthew 18:6. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 11 of 30 Days on the Mount of Blessing, pt 3–and other sayings of Jesus.

Jesus loves children. Fiercely. Tragically, it can never be said that we humans love them like he does. We mourn the deaths of great people—who have wounded others. We excuse outrageous behavior in those we admire—turning a blind eye to their mistakes and walking softly lest we shatter their fragile egos. Yet we yell at our little, growing ones who are but learning the ropes of life. We tire of them, we neglect them—and for what, some scrap of this passing world? Some shiny, crumbling treasure? We push aside our patience—and unleash a firestorm of anger toward these little ones. A firestorm that’s really more about us, than them. We wilt them. We step on them. We abuse them for our pleasure. And, at our worst, we kill them before they’ve had a chance at even a first breath—simply because they’ve inconvenienced us as a result of our own choices. God is nothing like us. Never once has he unleashed a firestorm of rage against one of them. Never once lost sight of a single one. Never once failed to notice their falling tears. Every single child of ours has caught his breath. Every one has stolen his great heart. In their pain—he grieves. In their joy, he laughs. He celebrates first steps. First words. Each new success. His precious treasure they will always, always be.
