a poem by Madison Scott-Clary

The dogs assure me: There are volumes of meaning —
Speaker:
00:00:47
Life and death — And time;
Speaker:
00:00:51
Past, present, future —
Speaker:
00:00:54
In the scent of a rotting fish left after the flood,
Speaker:
00:00:57
Or a trace of scat,
Speaker:
00:00:59
Or the coyote, long passed,
Speaker:
00:01:02
But not everyone reads poetry.
Speaker:
00:01:06
I'm not so lucky, all told:
Speaker:
00:01:08
The rich scent of meaning —
Speaker:
00:01:10
Heady, intoxicating —
Speaker:
00:01:12
Rises only from words And the way you rest your hands on the table.
