And that doesn't change just because we're 50 or older.

Speaker B:

Heck, sometimes it might add to the challenges.

Speaker C:

Maybe you're juggling health changes, family dynamics.

Speaker B:

Or a shifting career landscape.

Speaker C:

I've been through a few of those myself, and I get how it feels.

Speaker B:

To just want some calm amidst the storm.

Speaker B:

Speaker B:

To bring positivity into your life, even on the hard days.

Speaker B:

So grab a cup of coffee, tea, or whatever fuels you, and let's get into it.

Speaker B:

First off, let's ground this conversation.

Speaker B:

In reality, positivity isn't about being happy all the time.

Speaker B:

It's not about ignoring life's challenges or putting on a fake smile.

Speaker C:

It's about choosing how you respond to.

Speaker B:

Life'S ups and downs.

Speaker B:

I think of positivity as a muscle.

Speaker B:

The more you work it, the stronger it gets.

Speaker B:

I remember a time recently when I was balancing work, family, and my side hustle, and there were days when it became a lot.

Speaker B:

I became overwhelmed, and I just wanted to crawl under a blanket and just stay there.

Speaker B:

I wasn't feeling particularly positive, but I.

Speaker C:

Started focusing on small shifts, little things.

Speaker B:

That I could do differently, and moments where I could choose joy, even if everything else felt overwhelming.

Speaker B:

That's how positivity works.

Speaker B:

It's about finding those moments not expecting every day to be perfect.

Speaker B:

Let's start with something fun and doable.

Speaker B:

Nothing too heavy, I promise.

Speaker B:

Tip number one is micro adventures.

Speaker B:

Now, you might be wondering, what on earth is a micro adventure?

Speaker B:

Valerie?

Speaker B:

Well, it's exactly what it sounds like.

Speaker B:

It's tiny, spontaneous moments of adventure that you can fit into your day and.

Speaker C:

Before you think you need to book a flight to have an adventure.

Speaker B:

Hold on.

Speaker B:

I do this sometimes when I feel like life is getting a little too routine.

Speaker B:

For example, a couple of weeks ago.

Speaker C:

I decided to take a completely new.

Speaker B:

Route home just to shake things up a bit.

Speaker C:

I found this cute little coffee shop.

Speaker B:

That I had never noticed before, and.

Speaker C:

It ended up being the perfect place.

Speaker B:

To unwind and reflect.

Speaker B:

It was a small change, but it brought something different to my day, and.

Speaker C:

It also showed me a new route.

Speaker B:

That I could take if traffic gets heavy.

Speaker C:

I know this might sound small, but.

Speaker B:

The idea is to break up your.

Speaker C:

Routine and to inject a little novelty.

Speaker B:

Even if it's just trying a different coffee spot or exploring a new part of town.

Speaker C:

It's all about adding that sense of.

Speaker B:

Excitement, no matter how small.

Speaker B:

I tend to climb the walls when I'm doing the same thing, the same routine, day in and day out.

Speaker B:

I think that's one reason that the.

Speaker C:

COVID quarantine, it just really wore on me.

Speaker C:

Now the next tip is near and dear to me.

Speaker B:

The positivity partner system.

Speaker B:

I have a friend who I would call my positivity partner.

Speaker B:

We often text each other something positive.

Speaker C:

Maybe a small win, or just something that made us smile.

Speaker C:

And let me tell you, this really works.

Speaker C:

I remember one day when everything just seemed to be going wrong.

Speaker C:

My friend sent me a message reminding me of something good that I had.

Speaker B:

Done earlier in the week, and it completely shifted my perspective.

Speaker C:

Sometimes we just need that nudge from someone who sees the good when we can't see it.

Speaker C:

If you have somebody in your life.

Speaker B:

That you can do that with, then I highly recommend it.

Speaker B:

It creates a sense of accountability and adds a bit of fun to your day.

Speaker B:

Tip number three is something that I swear by positive priming.

Speaker C:

Now let me explain.

Speaker C:

I'm a huge believer in the idea.

Speaker B:

That our environment influences our mood.

Speaker C:

So I make sure that my surroundings.

Speaker B:

Are filled with things that lift me up.

Speaker B:

For example, I have a playlist that I call my feel good, get hyped mix.

Speaker B:

And whenever I'm feeling a bit low, I put it on and like magic.

Speaker C:

It helps me to refocus.

Speaker B:

Music always soothes my soul, and when I add a little dance into it, girl, it makes everything better.

Speaker C:

I also keep photos of my loved.

Speaker B:

Ones and a few of my favorite motivational quotes kind of scattered around my work workspace.

Speaker B:

And I have motivational stickers on my work laptop.

Speaker B:

These things, they work like positive triggers, and they remind me to stay upbeat.

Speaker C:

Even when my to do list feels.

Speaker B:

Like it's a mile long.

Speaker B:

If you have maybe a corner of your house or your office that needs a little sprucing up, try filling it.

Speaker C:

With things that make you smile.

Speaker B:

It makes a huge difference.

Speaker B:

Okay, now this one is super practical, and it's something that I use often.

Speaker B:

It's called the five second reset.

Speaker C:

You know those moments when you feel.

Speaker B:

Frustration is bubbling up or something just doesn't go your way.

Speaker C:

This is a simple tool to use in those times.

Speaker B:

I'll give you a real example.

Speaker B:

Just last week I had one of those days.

Speaker C:

Everything seemed to go wrong.

Speaker B:

I was stuck in traffic, late for a meeting, getting more and more irritated.

Speaker B:

Instead of letting that negativity take over, I used my five second reset.

Speaker B:

I took a deep breath and I thought, you know what?

Speaker B:

There could be a reason why I'm stuck in traffic.

Speaker B:

Maybe being stuck in traffic prevented me from being involved in an accident.

Speaker C:

Who knows?

Speaker B:

But it wasn't worth getting myself all worked up over, and I just took.

Speaker C:

The meeting from my car.

Speaker B:

Heck, I was already sitting in traffic, so why not make the most of the time, right?

Speaker C:

That tiny moment of pause helped me.

Speaker B:

Stop the spiral of frustration and reset my mood.

Speaker B:

The idea is to stop yourself just.

Speaker C:

Long enough to focus on something positive in your surroundings.

Speaker B:

Whether it's a sound, a sight, or a kind thought.

Speaker B:

Trust me, it works.

Speaker B:

And here's another one with a twist.

Speaker B:

The 1 minute gratitude walk.

Speaker B:

Now, I know we've all heard about.

Speaker C:

Gratitude list, and you know I talk.

Speaker B:

A lot about gratitude journals, but I sometimes like to take take it a.

Speaker C:

Step further by adding movement.

Speaker B:

I'll give you an example from my own life.

Speaker B:

I have this little routine where I.

Speaker C:

Walk around my yard or even sometimes inside the house.

Speaker B:

I'll make this circle downstairs the morning, and during that time, I spend the first minute thinking about what I'm grateful for.

Speaker B:

It could be as simple as the fact that I have this beautiful space to enjoy, or even just that I.

Speaker C:

Had a great cup of coffee that morning.

Speaker C:

Adding movement just kind of really amps up the effect.

Speaker B:

It gets me moving.

Speaker B:

It helps me start the day thinking of something positive versus what's on my to do list.

Speaker B:

And it's a quick way to boost my mood.

Speaker B:

You don't need a lot of time for this.

Speaker B:

All you need is 1 minute.

Speaker B:

Now let's talk about journaling.

Speaker B:

My favorite topic.

Speaker B:

One day I'm gonna create a journal, but in the meantime, here we go.

Speaker B:

I keep a standard gratitude journal as well as one where I just vent.

Speaker B:

And when I say vent, I let.

Speaker C:

It all out, which can feel really good.

Speaker B:

But I realized that sometimes I want, or shall I say I need to focus more on what I did each day that brought positivity into my life.

Speaker B:

For example, last week I wrote down that I had taken time to help.

Speaker C:

A stranger with something small.

Speaker B:

It wasn't a big deal, but the act of helping someone made me feel great.

Speaker B:

Focusing on the actions that I take, whether it's helping someone or just treating myself kindly, it's been really helpful.

Speaker C:

I encourage you to try it.

Speaker B:

Instead of just writing down your thoughts, jot down the positive actions that you've taken each day.

Speaker B:

It'll make you realize how much good.

Speaker C:

You'Re really putting out there.

Speaker C:

And lastly, this is one that I do every week.

Speaker B:

The positivity reframe.

Speaker B:

Once a week, I think about something that didn't go as planned.

Speaker C:

It's so easy to dwell on those.

Speaker B:

Moments, but now I try to reframe them.

Speaker B:

So let me give you an example.

Speaker B:

I'm not good at having to wait for others to provide me with information or to review something that I've submitted in my nine to five.

Speaker B:

It's very fast paced and decisions are made quickly for the most part, so I'm accustomed to working at that pace.

Speaker C:

Recently, I found myself in this situation where I'm waiting to hear back from.

Speaker B:

Someone and so that I can move forward or adjust or pivot whichever direction.

Speaker C:

I need to go.

Speaker B:

I just need to go there when I say it's annoying the crap out of me.

Speaker B:

And if I'm being really honest, I've.

Speaker C:

Been frustrated because waiting is throwing me.

Speaker B:

Off of my self imposed schedule.

Speaker B:

But then I realized the delay.

Speaker C:

It's given me extra time to refine.

Speaker B:

My ideas, to get some other things.

Speaker C:

Done, and to get better organized for.

Speaker B:

When I do start working on this project.

Speaker B:

That's what I mean by a reframe.

Speaker B:

The key is to find the silver lining in these tough moments and to shift your perspective.

Speaker B:

It's a great way to keep a positive outlook, even when things don't go perfectly.

Speaker B:

All right, my friend, there you have it, seven unique, actionable ways to bring more positivity into your life every day without the fluff.

Speaker C:

Now here's my challenge to you this week.

Speaker B:

Try one of these tips.

Speaker B:

Whether it's going on a micro adventure, starting a positivity partner check in, or practicing that five second reset, see how it shifts your energy.

Speaker B:

Remember, positivity isn't about being perfect.

Speaker B:

It's about creating moments of joy, no matter how small.
