Speaker:

Welcome back to Doing Divorce Different, the saddle up segment.

2

:

And you know, if you were here last

Thursday, I am dedicating the next

3

:

seven or the next six, a total of seven

episodes to mediation in Minnesota.

4

:

So I'm so glad you're here because

today we're talking about one of the

5

:

biggest questions that people have when

they're facing divorce, and that is.

6

:

Drum roll, how much is

it actually gonna cost?

7

:

And I wanna walk you through this

honestly, because the financial side of

8

:

divorce it, it can feel very overwhelming.

9

:

So we're gonna compare working with

attorneys, going through mediation and

10

:

what real costs look like in Minnesota.

11

:

So if you are doing an attorney led.

12

:

Divorce and you each hire attorneys.

13

:

Um, so you both, both the spouses hire

their own attorneys, then you start

14

:

with retainers and those are generally

like three to $5,000 per person, so

15

:

that's what you pay upfront right away.

16

:

And then the hourly range can be

anywhere from two 50 to 500 an hour.

17

:

Then that's just kind

of the beginning, right?

18

:

Because.

19

:

The longer things go back

and forth with emails.

20

:

Negotiations and court

filings, those fees can add up.

21

:

So just like that reality check, a fully

attorney driven divorce in Minnesota can

22

:

easily cost each person 10,000 to 25,000.

23

:

So up to $50,000, sometimes more if

it gets really, um, heavy in conflict.

24

:

So.

25

:

And here's the thing that that people

don't always realize is you're not

26

:

just paying for the legal work, you're

paying for the conflict to be managed

27

:

and sometimes unintentionally escalated.

28

:

So when you do a mediation, you work

with a mediator like me, and you

29

:

work together to come to agreements.

30

:

So you're not going through a middleman.

31

:

You're face to face

with the media mediator.

32

:

You're talking through the

agreements in the moment, coming up

33

:

with things right in that moment.

34

:

And so with a mediation,

the structure is different.

35

:

So instead of two attorneys and two hourly

bills, you work together and there's

36

:

one neutral professional that mediator.

37

:

So typically a mediation, um, costs

like a few hundred dollars per.

38

:

Session and then full service

mediations often offer a flat

39

:

fee, um, which is what I do.

40

:

So that means this is what that

means because you have that flat fee,

41

:

you know what your cost is upfront,

so there's no hourly surprises.

42

:

And I like it so much because my

clients feel free to connect with

43

:

me as many times as they need to.

44

:

They never feel like, oh my

gosh, I don't wanna bother them.

45

:

I don't wanna run up my

bill because I am available.

46

:

To my clients as they need me

when questions arise through

47

:

email, through Zoom meetings.

48

:

So, um, you have full guidance through

the entire process in Minnesota.

49

:

So, and we're talking

Minnesota costs here.

50

:

So what you're paying for,

you're not just choosing like

51

:

cheaper versus more expensive.

52

:

You're choosing how much

conflict you want, how long

53

:

you want the process to take.

54

:

And how much control you wanna keep.

55

:

So there are times when attorneys make

sense and that's when there's abuse

56

:

or there's high conflict, there's

safety concerns, there's hidden assets.

57

:

Attorneys are needed.

58

:

I am an attorney.

59

:

I, I like attorneys and they're

needed sometimes, but the majority

60

:

of cases, couples can work

together to come to the agreement.

61

:

So for many, many couples.

62

:

Especially those who

want to stay respectful.

63

:

Now, we're not perfect, right?

64

:

And things are gonna happen and

we're just gonna work through it.

65

:

But you want to protect your kids.

66

:

You wanna move forward

without dragging this out.

67

:

Mediation is often a much better fit.

68

:

So if you are in Minnesota and you're

trying to figure out what makes

69

:

the most sense for your situation,

I offer consultations where we

70

:

talk through your options and

what this could look like for you.

71

:

And if mediation is a fit, I can guide you

through the entire process step by step.

72

:

You will have everything you need to file

for divorce in Minnesota, and you don't

73

:

have to guess your way through this.

74

:

So it, it is just such a better way.

75

:

It is my passion and I wanna

help anyone that I can.

76

:

So take me up on my offer of the

free consultation, check it out,

77

:

and, um, let's see if we can work

together and do this a better way.

78

:

I.
