Shattering the heavens with our bronze demand,

Thanksgiving day, no trumpet sounded from the cloud;

Albeit with husky prayer and startling call,

Answer at its silence to the heavenly blast,

Shattering its silence with its glorious word.

Yet the downward spirit listening to that shore

Answer from its silence silence with our prayer,

Resounds no secret offering beneath Thy word,

Blessed to hear the Truth in His beatitude

Obeyed the Eternal listening to behold!

Welcome from his calm bosom this stormy morning,
