Transcripts

Speaker A:

Good morning.

Speaker A:

It's haystack and you would just about have to be living under a rock.

Speaker A:

I think at this point, if you're in the state of Arkansas, that is, and not seeing this story out of Cabot about the Arkansas State Police and the goose chase and I, I really think this is gonna end up making national headlines in the next day or two.

Speaker A:

The Arkansas State Police are getting absolutely roasted online after dash cam and cell phone video showed a state trooper running over two little baby goslings while trying to clear a family of geese off of the highway near cabin.

Speaker B:

It was sad.

Speaker B:

Goslings ain't easy to raise Won't do what they're told.

Speaker B:

They'd rather waddle through traffic than stay off.

Speaker B:

Tiny web feet and them soft little feathers.

Speaker B:

And each honk begins a new chase.

Speaker B:

If you try to corral em they go where they want Run over them, they'll pass away.

Speaker B:

Mamas, don't let your goslings grow up to cross highways.

Speaker B:

Don't let em dodge semis or play in the lane.

Speaker B:

Let em stay pondside where it's safe to play.

Speaker B:

Mamas, don't let your goslings grow up to cross highways Cause they'll be in the way.

Speaker B:

It'll ruin your day when state police run over them goslings like muddy old ditches and fresh summer mornings.

Speaker B:

Little wet pu and french fries and strolling at night.

Speaker B:

Them that don't stop for em must hate them and them that do sometimes accidentally hit em.

Speaker B:

They ain't dumb, they're just geese now but their brains won't let em do things to save their flocking life.

Speaker B:

Mamas, don't let your goslings grow up to cross highways.

Speaker B:

Don't let em get cornered on the interstate.

Speaker B:

A trooper with bird brains might be a bad fate.

Speaker B:

Mamas, don't let your goslings grow up to cross highways Cuz they might just get hit.

Speaker B:

And the Internet throw a fit while TikTok keeps looping the cliff.

Speaker B:

Mamas, don't let your goslings grow up to cross.

Speaker B:

Don't let them dodge chargers with push bars and lights.

Speaker B:

Teach them that blocking the road ain't polite.

Speaker A:

Yeah, no, I'm going to hell for that one.

Speaker A:

The, the video starts out kind of wholesome, you know, you've got these geese waddling across the highway, traffic slowing down.

Speaker A:

Trooper turns on his lights, tries to, basically tries to corral the birds, wanting to try to get them off, but he ends up striking the baby goslings.

Speaker A:

And the Internet of course, immediately responded exactly how you would expect the Internet to respond.

Speaker A:

Rage memes and petitions Arkansas State Police say the trooper spent about 26 minutes trying to move the geese safely off the interstate, but that there was a concern someone could get killed in a rear end crash if traffic suddenly stopped on the highway.

Speaker A:

The the trooper was actually instructed to shoot them right away and instead spent 20 minutes trying to get them off the road.

Speaker A:

Didn't try very hard, didn't, didn't get out of the car to go pick up the babies and chunk them over the barrier which seems like the obvious thing to do.

Speaker A:

Either way it's a lose lose situation really.

Speaker A:

And this is one of those stories where absolutely everyone is furious.

Speaker A:

Animal lovers are horrified.

Speaker A:

Most people who are, you know, drivers understand how dangerous stopped state stopped interstate traffic could be and these poor Arkansas geese are in the center of a statewide culture ward in the state of Arkansas now.

Speaker A:

I guess every goose though will look both ways moving forward.
