Please enjoy “Kintsugi”,
Speaker:
00:00:21
a poem by Æ et al.

1. the vessel broke upon the wheel
Speaker:
00:00:29
hands too rough on earth so soft
Speaker:
00:00:32
it went into the fire
Speaker:
00:00:34
regardless a spirit
Speaker:
00:00:37
seeped out from the cracks
Speaker:
00:00:40
gnashing teeth, lashing tail,
Speaker:
00:00:42
undirected further cracking
Speaker:
00:00:45
its porcelain shell
Speaker:
00:00:48
2. a dragon coalesced from the smoke and begun hoarding the shards,
Speaker:
00:00:55
first as a pile and then replacing scales
Speaker:
00:00:59
one by one, shielding raw earth always new stress fractures, new weld joints
Speaker:
00:01:06
of molten gold between porcelain scales
Speaker:
00:01:11
3. what a novel concept –
Speaker:
00:01:14
to celebrate signs of failure
Speaker:
00:01:17
aren’t you made of tougher stuff?
Speaker:
00:01:20
you’re of the same earth, the same fire
Speaker:
00:01:23
so what did you do that wasn’t enough?
Speaker:
00:01:28
4. clumsy claws shiny scales
Speaker:
00:01:32
rebuilding itself
Speaker:
00:01:34
coiling ‘round broken jar
Speaker:
00:01:38
a facsimile of the original design
Speaker:
00:01:44
This was “kintsugi”
Speaker:
00:01:49
by Æ et al., read for you by Rob MacWolf,
