"The bigger the calm, the more powerful the winds," says John Douillard, who joins the Quantum Biology Collective podcast to explore the fascinating intersection of quantum physics and Ayurveda. A pioneer in sports medicine and Ayurvedic practices for over 40 years, Douillard reveals how ancient wisdom and modern science converge to unlock human potential and achieve optimal health.

In this captivating episode, Douillard shares his journey from competitive athlete to Ayurvedic practitioner, explaining how meditation and breath work can induce a "runner's high" state of peak performance. He delves into the quantum aspects of Ayurveda, discussing how coherent photon emissions from our DNA can carry healing intentions across vast distances. Douillard also introduces a powerful one-minute meditation technique that activates gamma brainwaves associated with higher consciousness.

Tune in to today's discussion to discover how aligning with nature's rhythms, practicing mindful transitions, and harnessing the power of intention can bridge the gap between consciousness and physiology, leading to profound healing and enhanced well-being.

5 Key Takeaways

1. Practice the "one minute meditation" using bellows breath: Do 30 quick in-and-out breaths through your nose, followed by 30 seconds of stillness. This activates gamma brainwaves and provides a quick reset.

2. Seek the "coexistence of opposites" in daily life: Look for moments where you can be both calm and active simultaneously, like observing a flowing river or practicing nose breathing during exercise.

3. Use transition moments in your day for mindfulness: Before entering your home or starting a new task, take a minute to reset using the bellows breath technique.

4. Eat seasonally to support your microbiome: Use Dr. Douillard's free seasonal grocery lists to choose foods that provide the right microbes for each season.

5. Explore coherent vs. incoherent photon emissions: Practice meditation, yoga, and breathing exercises to potentially increase coherent photon emissions, which may support healing and overall wellbeing.

Memorable Quotes

"The bigger the calm, the more powerful the winds. The more calm you can establish, the more productive you can be in your life."
"Ayurveda is the understanding that it's about letting the truth of who you are out, letting a more initially vulnerable, delicate, passionate, and even powerful part of you out."
"When you actually do breathe, and they talk about pranayama, prana means breath, and yam means to hold, pause or extend your breath. So when you hold, pause and extend the breath, you're actually accessing the gap between the breath."

Meredith Oke:

Welcome to the QVC podcast. John Douillard. I am

Meredith Oke:

so excited to talk about the intersection of

Meredith Oke:

quantum physics and Ayurveda. This is going to be

Meredith Oke:

so fun.

John Douillard:

Well, thanks for having me. I'm excited.

Meredith Oke:

Great. So let's start a little bit with your

Meredith Oke:

background. You have been in space sports

Meredith Oke:

medicine and Ayurvedic medicine for over 40

Meredith Oke:

years. Tell us how you landed in Ayurveda. That

Meredith Oke:

wasn't necessarily the top of the line choice and

Meredith Oke:

what your journey's been like.

John Douillard:

Yeah, you know, I remember I went to a lecture

John Douillard:

when I was in college and it was a yoga, Ayurveda

John Douillard:

meditation lecture. And I was training for an

John Douillard:

ironman at the time. And I went up to the guy

John Douillard:

afterwards who was teaching it and I asked him,

John Douillard:

what do you think about doing an ironman from the

John Douillard:

ayurvedic yoga meditation perspective? And he

John Douillard:

looked at me and was like, what is that? And I

John Douillard:

told him what it was. It's two and a half mile,

John Douillard:

you know, swim in the ocean, 112 mile bike, 26

John Douillard:

mile run. He looked at me and was like, why do

John Douillard:

you do that? And it was weird because no one ever

John Douillard:

asked me that before and I didn't really have a

John Douillard:

good answer. So I was sort of hemming and hawing

John Douillard:

and he then said, do you meditate? And I said,

John Douillard:

yes, in fact, I do meditate. And he goes, do you

John Douillard:

sleep when you meditate? And I was like, deeply,

John Douillard:

I get this really deep sleep. And then he looked

John Douillard:

at me again, sort of like I was an idiot and

John Douillard:

said, meditation is different than sleep. Sleep

John Douillard:

is, you're kind of knocked out, unconscious in a

John Douillard:

way. But meditation, you're alert, resting and

John Douillard:

you're alert at the same time. And I was like,

John Douillard:

wow, that's not what I do. I just conk out. And

John Douillard:

he says, you're exhausted. And I was like, so

John Douillard:

does that mean if I could meditate and not fall

John Douillard:

asleep and do all this exercise, it would be

John Douillard:

okay? And he kind of looked at me and he said,

John Douillard:

yeah, yeah, yeah. And so that became sort of my

John Douillard:

marching orders. Originally I started, you know,

John Douillard:

meditating more, training a little bit less. So

John Douillard:

not just killing it, like going for three hour

John Douillard:

runs in the mountains and stuff. Like I was

John Douillard:

surely really dialed it down and started to gear

John Douillard:

up my meditation, started going meditation

John Douillard:

retreats on the weekends and. And then I went on

John Douillard:

a two week meditation retreat. And this is the

John Douillard:

game changer for me. And when I'm in my book Body

John Douillard:

Mind Sport, which I wrote about this, the last

John Douillard:

chapter is jet fuel, which was this. On this

John Douillard:

thing that happened to me where I went into this

John Douillard:

zone for like three months. I went into this kind

John Douillard:

of runner's high peak experience state where I

John Douillard:

started competing at an extremely high level.

John Douillard:

Started competing in know, placing and winning

John Douillard:

medals and my triathlons, which I was before sort

John Douillard:

of a good amateur, but not really at that level.

John Douillard:

I just all of a sudden started training and

John Douillard:

competing so much better. I was in my clinical

John Douillard:

internship at the time and my bandwidth in terms

John Douillard:

of my capacity, what I could tolerate just

John Douillard:

academically and everything was like off the

John Douillard:

charts. I was like on some drug that allowed me

John Douillard:

to do so much with so much less effort. I really

John Douillard:

felt it was like the eye of the storm, the bigger

John Douillard:

the calm that I had on the inside supported all

John Douillard:

this incredible wind or activity in my life. And

John Douillard:

I wasn't getting beat up or exhausted by the

John Douillard:

winds. And that's like, that's sort of been my

John Douillard:

analogy. Like the bigger the calm, the more

John Douillard:

powerful the winds, the more calm you can

John Douillard:

establish, the more productive you can be in your

John Douillard:

life. So the idea of meditation was like, okay,

John Douillard:

meditate, yoga, breathe, don't do anything, live

John Douillard:

in a bubble. No, no, no. Human potential is

John Douillard:

unlimited, but we're limited by if you're in the

John Douillard:

winds of the storm and you're dodging, you know,

John Douillard:

refrigerators and tree trunks and stress, we're

John Douillard:

limited. But if you can start to establish that

John Douillard:

internal experience, composure and calm and hail

John Douillard:

from that place, you begin to tap into that

John Douillard:

runner's high. My best race is my easiest race.

John Douillard:

You know, I was so fascinated by the runner's

John Douillard:

high, started reading all these books on it, the

John Douillard:

Psychic side of Sports and all the old books on

John Douillard:

runners high where Roger Bannister, who if you

John Douillard:

Remember broke the 4 minute mile and he said, I

John Douillard:

felt like I was standing still, I felt like I was

John Douillard:

going slow. Yet he was running faster than he met

John Douillard:

alive. And these experiences just blew me up

John Douillard:

because I was like, I had it, you know, but then

John Douillard:

three months later it was gone, you know, so I

John Douillard:

was just sort of super fascinated by that. And

John Douillard:

that's what sort of got me to, you know, that,

John Douillard:

that, that, you know, that class and learning and

John Douillard:

doing the meditation and, and, and really

John Douillard:

plugging that in. And it got me eventually to go

John Douillard:

to India and that's where I kind of took a deeper

John Douillard:

dive into Ayurveda because it was this. I was

John Douillard:

studying Chinese medicine at the time and I heard

John Douillard:

about Ayurveda and I heard about this longevity

John Douillard:

experience. People could live to 150. And not

John Douillard:

that all of it turned out to be actually true,

John Douillard:

but it definitely was enough to hook me and get

John Douillard:

me to go to India for a 4. I had like a 4 week

John Douillard:

vacation scheduled and, and I ended up going

John Douillard:

there, ended up getting invited to stay there

John Douillard:

permanently and learn Ayurveda, which was like a

John Douillard:

miracle. And I ended up staying there for a year

John Douillard:

and a half and that's where I met Deepak Chopra.

John Douillard:

He was there and he was starting a center and he

John Douillard:

had invited me after my training to come back

John Douillard:

and, and helped co direct his center. And I was

John Douillard:

thrown into the arena of training medical

John Douillard:

doctors, which I did. But it became really clear

John Douillard:

that I needed the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda,

John Douillard:

which is their like ancient traditional medical

John Douillard:

system. But I also needed the modern science. And

John Douillard:

that's what got me into that and that's what I've

John Douillard:

been doing ever since, is writing about

John Douillard:

Ayurvedic, like ancient principles. Time tested

John Douillard:

that around for thousands of years or hundreds of

John Douillard:

years. But if they don't have modern science, I

John Douillard:

don't really want to write about that. But they

John Douillard:

have science and the ancient wisdom. I feel like

John Douillard:

that makes sense because science alone. Right.

John Douillard:

Can prove really whatever it wants. Coffee can be

John Douillard:

good or bad. Wheat's good, wheat's bad. Soy's

John Douillard:

good.

Meredith Oke:

Drink wine. No, don't drink wine. Coffee's fine.

Meredith Oke:

Coffee's terrible.

John Douillard:

Yeah. So you don't know really who to believe.

John Douillard:

But if you have something that's been around for

John Douillard:

thousands of years and the science, I feel like

John Douillard:

it's a great place to start.

Meredith Oke:

Yes. And that is very much sort of where, where

Meredith Oke:

we land too a lot of the time on this podcast

Meredith Oke:

because we look at all of the newest science and

Meredith Oke:

what is it telling us? It's telling us to go

Meredith Oke:

outside, to respect our circadian rhythms, to

Meredith Oke:

spend time in nature, to breathe, to drink clean

Meredith Oke:

water, which is, these are all ancient practices,

Meredith Oke:

of course, because we evolved outside. So it's,

Meredith Oke:

it's fun when the, the new science comes up to

Meredith Oke:

support the old traditions, especially when our

Meredith Oke:

modern life is getting in the way so much of

Meredith Oke:

them, which it has more and more and more over

Meredith Oke:

the past few decades. And I love that you

Meredith Oke:

mentioned Roger Bannister. The only reason I know

Meredith Oke:

who that is is because that's the example that

Meredith Oke:

Rupert Sheldrake often uses when he talks about

Meredith Oke:

the morph, about creating morphogenic fields or

Meredith Oke:

my understanding is like a field of consciousness

Meredith Oke:

which once it has been established, then affects

Meredith Oke:

other people. Whether or not they were present

Meredith Oke:

for the event that triggered it or not. So I'm

Meredith Oke:

wondering how that. How that plays into Ayurveda.

Meredith Oke:

Because it sounded. It sounds to me like that

Meredith Oke:

first teacher you had was sort of like, dial back

Meredith Oke:

the physical exertion. And pay attention to your

Meredith Oke:

consciousness.

John Douillard:

100%. And that's sort of the. That was my first

John Douillard:

real introduction to, like, the full human

John Douillard:

potential. And that calm that I felt like I was

John Douillard:

doing all this stuff. But I felt like a real

John Douillard:

presence and a real experience of composure and

John Douillard:

calm. You know, two of my favorite quotes are do

John Douillard:

less and accomplish more. Which is sort of what I

John Douillard:

was engaged in. But then there's this kind of

John Douillard:

Roger Bannister thing which is like, do nothing

John Douillard:

and accomplish everything. Which I really love.

John Douillard:

Because that's where consciousness steps into

John Douillard:

play. Where you're. When you're in that. When

John Douillard:

you're hailing from that place of composure and

John Douillard:

calm. That source of consciousness, which is sort

John Douillard:

of, we now know from quantum physics. Everything

John Douillard:

comes from that silent field. Then when you're

John Douillard:

established in being or in that silence and then

John Douillard:

you perform action. You are not the doer of the

John Douillard:

activity. You are just the observer of the

John Douillard:

activity. So the idea that you could actually do

John Douillard:

less, accomplish more, that's cool. I get that

John Douillard:

that's the runner's high. But this old Vedic

John Douillard:

saying of do nothing and accomplish everything

John Douillard:

was like, whoa, that's like that way too far out

John Douillard:

there. But in reality, that's exactly the

John Douillard:

ultimate potential of the human consciousness.

John Douillard:

And this human body is nothing more than an

John Douillard:

instrument to perceive subtle energy exactly that

John Douillard:

way. And that's the cool thing about Ayurveda was

John Douillard:

it wasn't just like a medical system. Here's the

John Douillard:

herb for your heartburn and your back pain and

John Douillard:

this. And it does that. And it does circadian

John Douillard:

rhythms and clean water and everything that you

John Douillard:

said. But it also takes you all the way to the

John Douillard:

understanding of that there's an underlying field

John Douillard:

of consciousness, which is an intelligent field.

John Douillard:

That even Max Planck and Albert Einstein called

John Douillard:

that field intelligent. And that field is, you

John Douillard:

know, pervades everything and that we. Then you

John Douillard:

could call that field, you know, the place where

John Douillard:

our soul comes from or lives. And what I also

John Douillard:

really loved about Ayurveda was that they

John Douillard:

understood that we are spirit and we're body. And

John Douillard:

they also understood that you didn't have to die

John Douillard:

to. To then finally figure out, oh, yes, we

John Douillard:

actually are a spirit. Like, in our culture, we

John Douillard:

think there's a spirit. We talk about spirit. We

John Douillard:

Believe there's a spirit, but we don't really

John Douillard:

know for sure until we die. Then we become a

John Douillard:

spirit. You know, we have to die to really know

John Douillard:

for sure. Right. And in Ayurveda they were like,

John Douillard:

no, no, no, no. The whole point of this Vedic

John Douillard:

knowledge and purifying and healing your body is

John Douillard:

to refine this human instrument so it can

John Douillard:

perceive subtle energy and in ways that allow you

John Douillard:

to actually realize that you actually can be

John Douillard:

aware of the fact that there is a field of

John Douillard:

consciousness, sort of a spiritual field, and

John Douillard:

this physical body. And you don't have to have

John Douillard:

one or the other. You can actually have some

John Douillard:

experience of both, which is a pretty cool

John Douillard:

concept.

Meredith Oke:

It really is. Okay, so in your words, how, how do

Meredith Oke:

you explain what Ayurveda is?

John Douillard:

So I. There's two definitions for that. One, the

John Douillard:

sort of, the basic definition I use, life data,

John Douillard:

is science. So it's the science of life science,

John Douillard:

of circadian rhythms, science of eating seasonal

John Douillard:

food. Right. Sounds super simple, but we don't do

John Douillard:

that anymore. But every culture in the world

John Douillard:

historically did, because you had no other

John Douillard:

choice. And you were getting, as a result, the

John Douillard:

right microbes that change from season to season

John Douillard:

to season. That's Stanford research. The bugs on

John Douillard:

the Hadza tribes gut change from season to season

John Douillard:

to season. That's also Stanford research. Our

John Douillard:

bugs in our gut are supposed to change from

John Douillard:

season to season. Those bugs, like our

John Douillard:

microbiome, we know runs the show. It controls

John Douillard:

our mood, our energy, our vitality, our immunity.

John Douillard:

When the bugs are changing from season to season,

John Douillard:

you're getting the right bugs for the right

John Douillard:

season. So in the winter, you get bugs that

John Douillard:

support immunity when we need it the most. In the

John Douillard:

spring, you get bugs that support decongesting

John Douillard:

you. Because in the spring, it's rainy and muddy

John Douillard:

and congestive in the allergy season. In the

John Douillard:

summer, you get bugs that help to dissipate heat.

John Douillard:

They're called bacterial endophytes. And the bugs

John Douillard:

on plants that are synergistically related to

John Douillard:

plants, when we eat them is called xenohormesis,

John Douillard:

where we get the benefit of that plant, not just

John Douillard:

the chemical, which we think all that matters in

John Douillard:

America is just like sterilize it, you know,

John Douillard:

spray species on it, kill everything. Just give

John Douillard:

me the chemical. It's not that you're not just

John Douillard:

chemical, you're mostly bug, right? So when you

John Douillard:

take foods or herbs, you really want to have that

John Douillard:

natural occurring microbiome. We do it in season.

John Douillard:

You start establishing a, a resonance between

John Douillard:

your biological clocks and nature's Circadian

John Douillard:

rhythms. Right? Makes sense.

Meredith Oke:

Yeah.

John Douillard:

And that's. That's Ayurveda, understanding those,

John Douillard:

like, really subtle things that we are just

John Douillard:

beginning to really start to understand and kind

John Douillard:

of reverse engineer. So that's that there's

John Douillard:

herbs, diet, lifestyle, all these things to keep

John Douillard:

your body in balance. And that's the science of

John Douillard:

life, how to live your best life. My more

John Douillard:

favorite definition, I think, which applies to

John Douillard:

your podcast, is that is that science is light or

John Douillard:

ire is life. And Veda is truth, which means the

John Douillard:

truth of your life. And the truth of your life is

John Douillard:

the part of you that never changes. So you could

John Douillard:

make a case that the part of us that never

John Douillard:

changes is that consciousness, spiritual basis

John Douillard:

that never changes. And so Ayurveda was the

John Douillard:

understanding that. That it's about letting the

John Douillard:

truth of who you are out, letting a more

John Douillard:

initially a more vulnerable, delicate,

John Douillard:

passionate, and even powerful part of you out. So

John Douillard:

as opposed to engaging in behaviors that are

John Douillard:

constantly attempting to get satisfied from the

John Douillard:

outside world to make people like me, approve of

John Douillard:

me, love me, get food or shopping, or all this

John Douillard:

outside stimulus to make me happy temporarily

John Douillard:

was, from the Ayurvedic perspective, unconscious.

John Douillard:

And studies show that in the first five or six

John Douillard:

years of life, we create all these impressions

John Douillard:

that muster 95% of the things we think and say

John Douillard:

and do as adults. So all the things we're doing

John Douillard:

as adults come from these early, early

John Douillard:

impressions. And everybody was like, that is so

John Douillard:

unconscious. We have to do something to become

John Douillard:

conscious. We can't just have our whole 95 of our

John Douillard:

whole world becoming based on those impressions,

John Douillard:

which are about, you know, needing approval from

John Douillard:

mom and dad. We were hardwired to make sure mom

John Douillard:

and dad liked us because if they didn't care,

John Douillard:

we'd walk into the jungle, eaten by a lion,

John Douillard:

there'd be no people here. Right? So it was

John Douillard:

really important for us to have an attachment to

John Douillard:

mom and dad and to figure out a way to manipulate

John Douillard:

them to like us and give us toys and stuff.

John Douillard:

Right. You know, and most kids figure that out

John Douillard:

early on, but then we continue to create a

John Douillard:

culture which is all about getting stimuli

John Douillard:

stimulated, stimulated and happy and satisfied

John Douillard:

again from the outside world. Right? So that's

John Douillard:

what we have in our culture is this extra, you

John Douillard:

know, sensory stimulus that, you know, we're

John Douillard:

happy when good things happen and, you know,

John Douillard:

really sad when bad things happen. And from that

John Douillard:

level of the field, from that part of you that is

John Douillard:

truthful and never changing, you know, things go

John Douillard:

up, things go down, but we sort of are

John Douillard:

Weatherproofed from the highs and lows. Not that

John Douillard:

you can't be happy, you can't be sad, but you're

John Douillard:

not attached to that emotion, right? You're

John Douillard:

observing that emotion. And there's a difference.

John Douillard:

You're not like, oh, you go down with this ship

John Douillard:

when something bad happens and you're stressed

John Douillard:

and anxious and worried because you're so

John Douillard:

attached to the outcome. So that's a big part of

John Douillard:

the Ayurveda definition. That Ayurveda is life

John Douillard:

and Veda is truth. And then when you take that

John Douillard:

even further, when you start doing you and

John Douillard:

letting who you really are, letting the very more

John Douillard:

delicate and protected petals of your flower to

John Douillard:

sort of open naturally by taking action from that

John Douillard:

place of being and calm that runner's high place,

John Douillard:

same thing, really. And start taking action on

John Douillard:

that, you start becoming aware of the fact that

John Douillard:

it's easier and more satisfying. And I feel more

John Douillard:

happy and more content in my life when I'm

John Douillard:

actually taking a risk to do me. And I stop

John Douillard:

needing and requiring approval and appreciation

John Douillard:

from the outside world. And that is sort of the

John Douillard:

big gap between being conscious and being

John Douillard:

unconscious. And we can really work on that

John Douillard:

because we are all aware of that. We can all be

John Douillard:

aware, very much so of when we are engaging in

John Douillard:

behavior for approval and appreciation and you

John Douillard:

start doing. There was a really cool study to

John Douillard:

kind of back this up where they had two groups of

John Douillard:

people and one group was giving a gift in a

John Douillard:

hedonistic way. So let's say I gave you a gift, a

John Douillard:

sweater, and I really wanted you to like it. And

John Douillard:

I called you up. Did you get it? Did you like it?

John Douillard:

Did it fit? Does the color look good? Can I see

John Douillard:

it on you? You know, all this, like, I need. It's

John Douillard:

like for me, it's for the approval for me. The

John Douillard:

other group gave in at Eudaimonic way where they

John Douillard:

gave the gift with no expectation. They just

John Douillard:

loved giving you this gift. I just had a feeling

John Douillard:

it'd be perfect for you. And I had no attachment

John Douillard:

to you telling me how wonderful I am. When they

John Douillard:

gave the gift in a hedonistic way where it had

John Douillard:

some attachment return on that investment, it had

John Douillard:

a negative effect on the person they were giving

John Douillard:

it to so they could tell you were full of it and

John Douillard:

manipulating. And the negative effect on the

John Douillard:

person giving when they gave you demonically just

John Douillard:

giving because it's your nature to give and love

John Douillard:

and care. That's that truth of you. It's nature

John Douillard:

to be loving. It had a positive effect on the on

John Douillard:

the epigenetics of the people they were giving it

John Douillard:

to so they could feel that it was truth. And that

John Douillard:

opened them up and allowed a real, true heart to

John Douillard:

heart level of communication. And of course, when

John Douillard:

they did it that way, it had an effect on both,

John Douillard:

both parties involved. They were both opened up

John Douillard:

and establishing, communicating in a more heart

John Douillard:

to heart, soul to soul type of way. So it was

John Douillard:

kind of a cool thing. And we could all be aware

John Douillard:

of like, okay, what's my motivation here? And we

John Douillard:

can start, I call playing the game of life and

John Douillard:

start being a little bit more aware of how you

John Douillard:

engage and how you can, you know, be more

John Douillard:

eudemonic and more, more loving and giving and

John Douillard:

kind in your interactions and start to realize

John Douillard:

that, that you being like the sun was just gives,

John Douillard:

as far as we can tell, doesn't really get

John Douillard:

anything from us. It just gives a lot,

John Douillard:

everything, right? And if you could just be that,

John Douillard:

that would actually be. That's been proven in so

John Douillard:

many studies. When you do that, your microbiome

John Douillard:

dramatically changes with more positive bugs,

John Douillard:

less bad bugs. Your oxytocin hormone, which is

John Douillard:

the longevity hormone, surges. You have

John Douillard:

significantly more beneficial epigenetic

John Douillard:

qualities like good genes turn on, bad genes turn

John Douillard:

off. The list goes on and on. In terms of our

John Douillard:

health benefits, when we actually give and be

John Douillard:

loving and kind of and take that risk to do the

John Douillard:

thing that we hate and fear to do, which is to

John Douillard:

put our crazy mind, which is in control and

John Douillard:

protecting, and let something give and love and

John Douillard:

be kind for no reason because it's your nature.

Meredith Oke:

Wow, that's really beautiful. And I love the

Meredith Oke:

comparison to the sun. The sun is life in so many

Meredith Oke:

ways, including as a role model. And it gets a

Meredith Oke:

break, gets to go to sleep, and we get some

Meredith Oke:

darkness, which is also important. And so I'm

Meredith Oke:

really, I'm really interested in your approach to

Meredith Oke:

Ayurveda and the way that you have opened it up

Meredith Oke:

beyond just, you know, a to do list of, of how to

Meredith Oke:

be healthy. And I think this element of

Meredith Oke:

consciousness that you bring into it and

Meredith Oke:

awareness of how we're doing things is so

Meredith Oke:

important. I know so many of us are on, you know,

Meredith Oke:

our health journey and we become a little wrapped

Meredith Oke:

up in like, am I doing it right? Am I doing it

Meredith Oke:

enough? And then we start judging other people.

Meredith Oke:

Well, that person doesn't do it and oh, that

Meredith Oke:

person said she ate pizza and all that. But you

Meredith Oke:

know, and we, we, you know, these things that

Meredith Oke:

we're meant to be doing to help us feel better

Meredith Oke:

can Sometimes become overtake our consciousness

Meredith Oke:

as that. That mind you were referring to turns

Meredith Oke:

them against us almost in a way. And it seems to

Meredith Oke:

me that this Ayurvedic approach that you've

Meredith Oke:

developed really takes that into account from the

Meredith Oke:

start.

John Douillard:

Well, let's talk about that. Let's take a deeper

John Douillard:

dive into the kind of the quantum Ayurvedic kind

John Douillard:

of concept. What I really love about Ayurveda is

John Douillard:

they describe the cause of disease. Thousands of

John Douillard:

years ago they said that the cause of disease is

John Douillard:

this. It's called Pragya Prada, which means the

John Douillard:

mistake of the intellect. Which means that the

John Douillard:

intellect, the mind, makes a mistake and starts

John Douillard:

to think of itself as separate from the

John Douillard:

underlying field of intelligence, consciousness.

John Douillard:

Let's say we disconnect from the whole. We. We

John Douillard:

lose access to the whole. We lose access to the

John Douillard:

conscious, and that is the cause of disease.

John Douillard:

Right. So what they're saying is that when the

John Douillard:

field of intelligence becomes physiology, our

John Douillard:

body and that physiology forgets that it's the

John Douillard:

field which everything comes from. Our body loses

John Douillard:

access to the intelligence, it loses access to,

John Douillard:

you know, how to connect with rhythms of nature.

John Douillard:

It starts to go rogue and start. Things start to

John Douillard:

happen. You start to function independent of the

John Douillard:

field and you're not part of the whole anymore.

John Douillard:

And bad things happen. That's what they said was

John Douillard:

the cause of disease.

Meredith Oke:

I was like, wow, that's like, so I love this.

Meredith Oke:

Yes. So that. So disease arises from the

Meredith Oke:

separation of our physiology from the field.

John Douillard:

Right, Right.

Meredith Oke:

Amazing. Okay, keep going.

John Douillard:

So now let's just make a little visual image

John Douillard:

here. We have the field and then we have the

John Douillard:

physiology, or we have consciousness and matter.

John Douillard:

So fields of intelligence become matter. Right?

John Douillard:

Molecules, atoms and atoms, molecules and atoms

John Douillard:

comes things, and we're part of those things.

John Douillard:

Right. So turns out that if you wanted to restore

John Douillard:

the memory of consciousness into the field or

John Douillard:

into the physiology, you would want to probably

John Douillard:

put your attention right where the field becomes

John Douillard:

the physiology. Like if you were to put a light

John Douillard:

or a lamp in a doorway, the lamp would shine into

John Douillard:

both rooms, into, let's say, one room's the

John Douillard:

field, one room is the physiology. And you would

John Douillard:

then bring awareness or light or, you know,

John Douillard:

awareness into both fields. And the physiology

John Douillard:

would wake up and go, oh, yeah, I'm part of the

John Douillard:

field. That's right. We're supposed to part

John Douillard:

function as part of the whole, not independently,

John Douillard:

not rogue on our own, you know, and we start to

John Douillard:

restore the memory of pure consciousness into the

John Douillard:

physiology. So the idea is you need to find

John Douillard:

Something that can function as both field and

John Douillard:

physiology. Right. I mean, that makes sense.

John Douillard:

Right. So what is it in nature, in quantum

John Douillard:

physics that we know can function both as a

John Douillard:

field, which is a frequency, and as a particle,

John Douillard:

which is an atomic particle? Physiology. Right.

John Douillard:

And that is a photon. Photons of light are both

John Douillard:

fields and they're particles at the same time. So

John Douillard:

if we could find a photon that exists at the

John Douillard:

junction between field and physiology and we put

John Douillard:

attention on it, we could potentially restore the

John Douillard:

memory of pure consciousness. Because it's at the

John Douillard:

gap between consciousness and matter that we

John Douillard:

actually. It's the Vedas said it's at the gap

John Douillard:

that that cause is the cause of disease. So they

John Douillard:

would create therapies to put your attention at

John Douillard:

the gap between physiology, field and physiology,

John Douillard:

or consciousness and matter. So there was kind of

John Douillard:

really cool because all these therapies they had

John Douillard:

were designed to put the attention there. We call

John Douillard:

them, they're called sandhi or gap or junction

John Douillard:

point therapies. Junction points between daytime

John Douillard:

and nighttime, the sunrise and sunset. I mean, we

John Douillard:

all know that all traditional cultures were there

John Douillard:

for every sunrise. And they prayed and they did

John Douillard:

sun salutation, they did some type of. Some type

John Douillard:

of meditation or some type of reverence to the

John Douillard:

sun setting and rising. When the seasons change,

John Douillard:

the solstices and the equinoxes, we know that

John Douillard:

there are celebrations around the world for that

John Douillard:

still to this day. So they're all. There's.

John Douillard:

There's. In Ayurveda, when you actually do

John Douillard:

breathe, and they talk about pranayama, prana

John Douillard:

means breath, and yam means to hold, pause or

John Douillard:

extend your breath. So when you hold, pause and

John Douillard:

extend the breath, you're actually accessing the

John Douillard:

gap between the breath. And it's the gap between

John Douillard:

the breath that is. Ayurveda is called kumbak or

John Douillard:

pranayama. And there's incredible science behind

John Douillard:

the value of holding your breath. And when free

John Douillard:

divers sort of stumbled upon this, when they

John Douillard:

would go down really deep and they would spend 11

John Douillard:

minutes down there with no oxygen, and they would

John Douillard:

come back, and then if they didn't die, they

John Douillard:

would have all these really amazing health

John Douillard:

benefits. And then they took them into the lab

John Douillard:

and they found that when they did hold their

John Douillard:

breath, like Ayurvedic breath retention

John Douillard:

techniques, which are like the source of

John Douillard:

pranayama breathing techniques, they called that

John Douillard:

intermittent hypoxia, which means if you hold

John Douillard:

your breath for just a short period of time, not

John Douillard:

like to the point of danger. It's sort of like

John Douillard:

autophagy, where we do calorie restriction

John Douillard:

without starvation. And all of a sudden the body

John Douillard:

starts producing all the cellular repair and cel

John Douillard:

recycling. And it's really good for us to a

John Douillard:

certain extent. Kind of cleans up all the, all

John Douillard:

the old stuff in the cupboards and cleans it all

John Douillard:

out. The same thing happens when you hold your

John Douillard:

breath within your capacity of comfort. You have

John Douillard:

to build up to this over time, obviously, but

John Douillard:

when you actually do hold your breath, this

John Douillard:

intermittent hypoxia has been shown for just a

John Douillard:

short period of time. The body's saying, hey, if

John Douillard:

I'm holding my breath, all of a sudden my oxygen

John Douillard:

levels are starting to go down. And when I go

John Douillard:

below 90, what will happen is the body will go

John Douillard:

into that intermittent hypoxia anywhere in the

John Douillard:

80s. And when you go into that place, the body

John Douillard:

starts producing more stem cells, it starts

John Douillard:

producing more nitric oxide, which is a molecule

John Douillard:

that won the Nobel Prize. It starts producing

John Douillard:

more endothelial growth factors which protect

John Douillard:

your arterial lining. It's been shown to produce

John Douillard:

transcription factors called the guardian of your

John Douillard:

genome, which protects your genetic code from

John Douillard:

expressing negative traits, which we all have

John Douillard:

them. And as we get older, that's sort of what

John Douillard:

happens. It's been shown to increase

John Douillard:

neuroplasticity so you can change and be more

John Douillard:

aware of those old childlike patterns, you know,

John Douillard:

that locked us in doing the same dumb stuff again

John Douillard:

and again in our life, being that hedonistic

John Douillard:

giver and be willing to actually take action to

John Douillard:

free yourself from those old patterns. It's

John Douillard:

called neuroplasticity. It's pretty been shown to

John Douillard:

lower blood pressure. Blood sugar is what Lance

John Douillard:

Armstrong got busted for injecting epo, which

John Douillard:

boosts your blood oxygen levels when you hold

John Douillard:

your breath. That's been boosted as well. So it's

John Douillard:

sort of like, wow, that's a gap, you know, so

John Douillard:

there are all these gap therapies which Ayurveda

John Douillard:

was all about. And there's even more. I can go

John Douillard:

dive, dive into the, into the weeds because

John Douillard:

there's so many even more subtle ones, but those

John Douillard:

are sort of the big ones. But then there's

John Douillard:

something that quantum physics in the research on

John Douillard:

that has recently described for us, is that we

John Douillard:

actually produce photons out of our DNA every

John Douillard:

day, thousands of them per minute. And they're

John Douillard:

called ultra weak photon emissions or sometimes

John Douillard:

called biophotons. These ultra weak photon

John Douillard:

emissions are interesting because most of them

John Douillard:

are caused by DNA damage, which is a problem as

John Douillard:

we get older. We produce more DNA damage. We

John Douillard:

don't produce the free radical the antioxidants

John Douillard:

to swab up the free radical damage. Because

John Douillard:

whenever you make energy anywhere, you're going

John Douillard:

to have waste products. And in the body it's the

John Douillard:

same thing. And as we get older, we don't, we

John Douillard:

don't make as much energy because we don't help

John Douillard:

get rid of the trash and the waste products of

John Douillard:

energy production as well. And, and would

John Douillard:

accelerate aging causes DNA damage. And that's

John Douillard:

what makes the genetic expressions, negative

John Douillard:

ones, express themselves in a way we don't like.

John Douillard:

So, so most of the photon emissions are damaging.

John Douillard:

In fact, they did something, it's called, it's

John Douillard:

called the, the bystander phenomena, where if

John Douillard:

they took, they did this study where they took a

John Douillard:

monkey who had cancer and all this kind of really

John Douillard:

in a disease state, and they put a healthy monkey

John Douillard:

next to it, and within a certain period of time,

John Douillard:

the healthy monkey started getting sick. And they

John Douillard:

measured the mechanism for that and they found it

John Douillard:

was the photon emissions. Which, remember,

John Douillard:

photons don't stop here, right. They go right

John Douillard:

through everything, you and me. They don't seem

John Douillard:

to care about our body because it's so subtle,

John Douillard:

just blasting through. Right. So turns out that

John Douillard:

these photon emissions, when they're damaging,

John Douillard:

can be damaging. It's almost like when you walk

John Douillard:

into a room and you get a bad feeling. It's that

John Douillard:

you're feeling those, those photon emissions

John Douillard:

which are not necessarily healthy for you. Well,

John Douillard:

it turned out that studies show that when you

John Douillard:

actually meditate and do yoga and breathing,

John Douillard:

those incoherent photon emissions become

John Douillard:

coherent, which is. So then all the crazy

John Douillard:

damaging photons come down, which is like,

John Douillard:

fundamental reason why I'll digress for a second.

John Douillard:

That epidemic, I mean, metabolic syndrome is the

John Douillard:

epidemic of our time, right?

Meredith Oke:

Yeah.

John Douillard:

And high blood pressure, high blood sugar, X ray

John Douillard:

around your belly, high blood pressure, all these

John Douillard:

things, when you look at them, they're all caused

John Douillard:

by stress. And I wrote an article about the

John Douillard:

science behind that. Every one of them caused by

John Douillard:

stress. Which means that when you're under this

John Douillard:

chronic incoming, go, go, go, go. Life that we

John Douillard:

have in this culture, compared to our ancient

John Douillard:

ancestors, which pretty much life was pretty

John Douillard:

chill. You know, this connected in resonance with

John Douillard:

nature and migrating with the seasons. And it

John Douillard:

wasn't easy, but it wasn't like we have today. So

John Douillard:

much incoming. That underlying chronic stress

John Douillard:

that we have tells the body life's an emergency

John Douillard:

and there's a bear chasing you. It's not like

John Douillard:

going to eat me in this moment, but I can see it

John Douillard:

down the road. It's coming out it's following me,

John Douillard:

and I'm having to constantly go, when that

John Douillard:

happens, your body's going to produce more stress

John Douillard:

hormone. So it's going to have to put more

John Douillard:

cholesterol in the blood to make that hormone.

John Douillard:

It's going to have to put more sugar in the blood

John Douillard:

to get you up a tree faster. It's going to have

John Douillard:

to raise your blood pressure to help you get up.

John Douillard:

That tree is going to help take any fat it can

John Douillard:

find as reserve fuel, stick it under the

John Douillard:

mattress, and hopefully use it as reserve fuel.

John Douillard:

So the science is really clear. All this stuff

John Douillard:

that we. Everybody's being put on metformin and

John Douillard:

statins. The science is clear. It's caused by

John Douillard:

stress. And then I said, well, let's look at

John Douillard:

meditation as a. As a possible resource to heal

John Douillard:

that stress. And study after study after study,

John Douillard:

meditation lowers your obesity rates, lowers

John Douillard:

blood pressure, lowers cholesterol levels, lowers

John Douillard:

blood sugar, everything. So I was like, wow,

John Douillard:

okay, this stress is there. So when you take. Do

John Douillard:

yoga, breathing and meditate, and you're getting

John Douillard:

rid of all the incoherent photon emissions,

John Douillard:

thousands per minute coming out of your DNA,

John Douillard:

you've done a huge job to help your body not

John Douillard:

break down, because if it can break down someone

John Douillard:

next to you, it's sure going to have an effect on

John Douillard:

breaking down you, right? And that means that if

John Douillard:

you can meditate, yoga and breathe, and the

John Douillard:

science shows you can create coherent emissions

John Douillard:

of these photons, that could be really cool. And

John Douillard:

studies now show that our photon emissions are

John Douillard:

used in your body as information carrying

John Douillard:

particles of light or frequencies of light, and

John Douillard:

that even our thoughts are thought to be carried

John Douillard:

by these photon emissions. Because when you

John Douillard:

actually do the math and go, okay, like, all the

John Douillard:

thoughts that I just had, which is like way too

John Douillard:

many, probably not enough nerves, firing nerves

John Douillard:

to firing nerves to make all that happen. And I

John Douillard:

admit I said that really fast because if I said

John Douillard:

it slower, I figured I thought I might forget

John Douillard:

half the things I was saying because it starts to

John Douillard:

get really complicated. But the idea is that the

John Douillard:

nerves firing on nerves just isn't fast enough.

John Douillard:

So the research is showing that we actually are

John Douillard:

thinking on these frequencies of light. All

John Douillard:

right, so now this is really cool. Turns out that

John Douillard:

if I meditate, what am I doing? And I'm taking

John Douillard:

my. My thinking and I'm transcending my thinking,

John Douillard:

and I'm going into the field of consciousness. So

John Douillard:

meditation is a tool to get you to that gap

John Douillard:

between the field of consciousness and matter or

John Douillard:

the field of physiology. So meditation takes me

John Douillard:

down into that gap. Well, it also turns out this

John Douillard:

is called Bokan's phenomena with the photon

John Douillard:

emissions, that when they're coherent, they are

John Douillard:

more able to carry information and they're more

John Douillard:

able to carry intention. So if you have an

John Douillard:

intention in that underlying field of coherent

John Douillard:

emissions, in a meditative state or a prayer

John Douillard:

state, and you have an intention, that intention

John Douillard:

can be carried at great distances because photons

John Douillard:

are carried at great distances. Okay, so that

John Douillard:

sort of helps to understand prayer and why.

John Douillard:

There's like incredible amount of research on how

John Douillard:

prayer can be like the biggest, best drug ever.

John Douillard:

But there are also studies show the prayer didn't

John Douillard:

work. But there's so many studies saying it does

John Douillard:

work. So why does it work sometimes? Why does it

John Douillard:

work, not work some other times? Well, it's

John Douillard:

possible that it doesn't work all the time

John Douillard:

because if you're not in a deep enough prayer

John Douillard:

state or meditative state to down, you know, to

John Douillard:

downregulate some of the incoherent photon

John Douillard:

emissions, then you won't have enough of the

John Douillard:

coherent to have it create a real coherent effect

John Douillard:

and really have a good impact of your intention

John Douillard:

and the carrying of that information into your

John Douillard:

body as a self healing tool or as a distance

John Douillard:

healing tool, which is what prayer is. And in

John Douillard:

Ayurveda, distance healing was like completely

John Douillard:

automatic understood. When I live there, you

John Douillard:

know, we would on the weekends usually go see

John Douillard:

some healer or something, some person that was a

John Douillard:

healer of some sort. And regularly we'd go see a

John Douillard:

distance healer and we'd take a picture of our

John Douillard:

mom and say, can you heal my mom, my grandmom?

John Douillard:

And. And they would like take your pulse and do

John Douillard:

these things. And it was just like common

John Douillard:

knowledge, you know, that distance only was a

John Douillard:

thing here. It's like there is interesting and

John Douillard:

emerging science about this. Definitely in the

John Douillard:

quantum world that this is absolutely real but

John Douillard:

still emerging. Right, okay, so, well, how does

John Douillard:

this really work then? Well, it's kind of like,

John Douillard:

you know, I've been having this, you know, having

John Douillard:

you on my radar to have this podcast with you.

John Douillard:

And you had me on your schedule for a while. So

John Douillard:

that mean my. I had this intention to be here and

John Douillard:

talk to you now. And you had that intention.

John Douillard:

Intention, which means that our photon emissions,

John Douillard:

which are blasting out of our body at the speed

John Douillard:

of light, we're carrying a certain intention. And

John Douillard:

that intention, you know, then lands. And then

John Douillard:

when we meet each other, I don't know if you felt

John Douillard:

it, but sometimes you walk into restaurant, you

John Douillard:

go and you just meet someone for the first time

John Douillard:

you feel like. You feel like I know you. And. And

John Douillard:

that's because you. You are photons of a minority

John Douillard:

communicating in this quantum field. Field which

John Douillard:

is, of course, beyond space and time, you know,

John Douillard:

weeks and weeks before. And all of a sudden, we

John Douillard:

feel this connection, you know, so that's sort of

John Douillard:

what's happening. So Einstein called that kind of

John Douillard:

an effect. Well, there was an effect that he

John Douillard:

called spooky action at a distance, which is

John Douillard:

called quantum entanglement, which I'm sure some

John Douillard:

of you are. The other guests have talked about.

John Douillard:

Well, quantum entanglement is when I have a

John Douillard:

photon, and I have. And I am aware of a photon,

John Douillard:

right. And that photon is entangled with another

John Douillard:

photon, which could be in another galaxy,

John Douillard:

literally, or it could be inside of you. It could

John Douillard:

be anywhere. And I have an awareness and I have

John Douillard:

an intention on those photons. It'll instantly

John Douillard:

change the photons at great distances. And the

John Douillard:

word, the key word there is instantly, which

John Douillard:

means faster than the speed of light, which could

John Douillard:

instantly change the spin of that photon in

John Douillard:

another galaxy instantaneously faster than the

John Douillard:

speed of light. Einstein knew this was a thing,

John Douillard:

and he said, this is weird. And it's called

John Douillard:

spooky action addition. We don't understand it.

John Douillard:

He didn't really want to talk about it because he

John Douillard:

couldn't understand. It sort of blew up this

John Douillard:

whole thing.

Meredith Oke:

You know, if they're communicating faster than

Meredith Oke:

the speed of light, then what does that say for

Meredith Oke:

his work?

John Douillard:

Right, right. So that's sort of where. And now,

John Douillard:

since then, though, quantum entanglement has been

John Douillard:

proven again and again and again and again. It's

John Douillard:

a real, absolute phenomenon. In fact, quantum

John Douillard:

computing is exactly that. Like, you know, we're

John Douillard:

both on our computer, and quantum computing is

John Douillard:

going to be where if I'm on my computer and

John Douillard:

someone hacks into my computer and my photons are

John Douillard:

by definition entangled with the. With a person

John Douillard:

who gets on that computer because I'm on it, and

John Douillard:

that entangled photon is on his criminal

John Douillard:

computer. It'll instantly change a photon on my

John Douillard:

computer. My computer will pick that up and lock

John Douillard:

them out. That's the future of quantum security.

John Douillard:

That is what's happening. It's not like me just

John Douillard:

made that up. That's what's happening. That is

John Douillard:

what quantum computing is. And that's what

John Douillard:

quantum success, what cybersecurity will be all

John Douillard:

about in the very near future.

Meredith Oke:

That's crazy.

John Douillard:

Or based on spooky action at a distance. Well,

John Douillard:

Ayurveda said that spooky action at A distance is

John Douillard:

what heals, is what stores the memory of pure

John Douillard:

consciousness in the part of the physiology that

John Douillard:

lost its way, that became more dense and

John Douillard:

disconnected from the field. Right, right. So if

John Douillard:

I am now in a meditative state and I dial down my

John Douillard:

incoherent photon emissions and I have an

John Douillard:

intention to heal myself or others, that

John Douillard:

intention, if it's entangled with my mom, you

John Douillard:

know, who I love, and she's not well, she is

John Douillard:

well, but we'll just pretend she's not well for a

John Douillard:

minute and we'll heal her anyway. And I have an

John Douillard:

intention, and all of a sudden that

John Douillard:

instantaneously will actually change and bring

John Douillard:

more awareness to the photons that may have

John Douillard:

become more particulate as opposed to field. They

John Douillard:

became more particle, more dense, more

John Douillard:

physiology, as opposed to consciousness based. So

John Douillard:

by actually having an awareness and have an

John Douillard:

intention from that level of field, you can

John Douillard:

create an effect where the particles which have

John Douillard:

become more dense and more incoherent can

John Douillard:

actually become more light based, more frequency

John Douillard:

based and more coherent based, and restore normal

John Douillard:

function and in fact restore consciousness, the

John Douillard:

field, into the physiology and restore the memory

John Douillard:

of pure consciousness into that part of the body

John Douillard:

that lost its way. And that's quantum healing in

John Douillard:

a nutshell.

Meredith Oke:

That's amazing and so beautifully explained. I

Meredith Oke:

really, really appreciate your ability to do that

Meredith Oke:

because I know it takes a lot of deep

Meredith Oke:

understanding of the details in order to explain

Meredith Oke:

it so simply in a way that everyone can

Meredith Oke:

understand. That is, that is no small thing that

Meredith Oke:

you just did. So thank you so much, John. I know

Meredith Oke:

a lot of us spend time thinking about this and.

Meredith Oke:

And we either get lost in the weeds on the

Meredith Oke:

mechanisms or, you know, or so that was, that was

Meredith Oke:

beautiful. And I'm really. This idea of healing,

Meredith Oke:

being to close the gap between the field and the

Meredith Oke:

physiology is just so, so profound. I have not

Meredith Oke:

heard it framed that way before. And then when I

Meredith Oke:

think about, you know, if we're going to stay,

Meredith Oke:

you know, grounded in science, you know, all of

Meredith Oke:

the science and all of the ancient traditions and

Meredith Oke:

all, everyone, you know, there are certain

Meredith Oke:

constants that come up as being healing. Time in

Meredith Oke:

nature, time in quiet reflection or meditative

Meredith Oke:

state, positive social connections and loving

Meredith Oke:

relationships. And this physiology, field gap

Meredith Oke:

really ties all of those things together. Like if

Meredith Oke:

I'm outside in my bare feet at sunrise, my body

Meredith Oke:

is. I'm bringing those particles into the field.

Meredith Oke:

And then if you add a meditative state to that,

Meredith Oke:

and then you add the fact that I feel so happy, I

Meredith Oke:

get to make a healthy breakfast for my children,

Meredith Oke:

before they go to school. And I feel the

Meredith Oke:

gratitude of that. It's like I'm collapsing that

Meredith Oke:

gap in so many different ways.

John Douillard:

Let's take what we just talked about and what you

John Douillard:

just said back to what we started with, when we

John Douillard:

started with the eye of the storm, right, that

John Douillard:

runner's high. That's what got me into all this,

John Douillard:

was I had that experience. I was like, I need to

John Douillard:

know what this is, you know? And so that is the

John Douillard:

bigger the calm, the more powerful the winds. And

John Douillard:

this is called the coexistence of opposites,

John Douillard:

where you're engaged in dynamic activity but calm

John Douillard:

at the same time. What that Indian doctor wanted

John Douillard:

me to experience. Well, when I came back from

John Douillard:

India, I wrote a book called Body minus four,

John Douillard:

which is all about breathing through your nose

John Douillard:

versus your mouth. And we published studies that

John Douillard:

show that when you run or walk or breathe through

John Douillard:

your nose while you're running or walking or

John Douillard:

exercising, that the brain shifted from a fight

John Douillard:

or flight beta state in the brain to an alpha

John Douillard:

state in the brain and a more coherent state in

John Douillard:

the brain. So it was. So we actually proved in

John Douillard:

published study in the International Journal of

John Douillard:

Neuroscience that when you actually breathe

John Douillard:

through your nose, the brain goes into a

John Douillard:

meditative state, a coherent alpha state, which

John Douillard:

is what you see in meditation. But we were doing

John Douillard:

that while running as fast as we could. So we

John Douillard:

were the first group to ever produce alpha and

John Douillard:

brainwave coherence during vigorous exercise. So

John Douillard:

I was like, wait a minute. Okay, this is really

John Douillard:

cool. This is like, you know, we proved that the

John Douillard:

runner's high is the coexistence of opposites,

John Douillard:

that you have to create an experience where

John Douillard:

you're coexisting dynamic activity and silence at

John Douillard:

the same time. Right when you're at the junction

John Douillard:

between sunrise and sunset, you're experiencing

John Douillard:

night, which is a resting time, and day, which is

John Douillard:

an active time. You're at that point of the

John Douillard:

coexistence of opposites in a way, similarly with

John Douillard:

seasonal changes. So the idea is that when you do

John Douillard:

the yoga and the breathing and the meditation,

John Douillard:

when you do the yoga, breathing and meditation,

John Douillard:

you can start to look for that experience of

John Douillard:

composition, exposure, and calm in the midst of

John Douillard:

dynamic activity. You're calm and alert at the

John Douillard:

same time. You're in a posture, you're really

John Douillard:

still, but your body's dynamically active. You're

John Douillard:

breathing, but your. Your mind is really still,

John Douillard:

but you're still breathing. Meditation, your

John Douillard:

restful alert. You go into nature, play the game,

John Douillard:

see if you can actually, when you're walking in

John Douillard:

the forest. You know, look at that river or that

John Douillard:

creek and watch it. You see if you can identify

John Douillard:

the silence and dynamic dynamism coexisting. The

John Douillard:

river's going silently still, but it's also

John Douillard:

dramatic. You can hardly even hear it, but it's

John Douillard:

also silent and active at the same time. Look at

John Douillard:

the leaves, look at the trees, and you can start

John Douillard:

to kind of see that in nature that coexistence of

John Douillard:

opposites is everywhere. And when you meditate,

John Douillard:

you just start to dip the cloth in. The dye of

John Douillard:

your own consciousness come out, you pull a

John Douillard:

little bit more of that dye with you, so you

John Douillard:

start to bring that memory of pure consciousness

John Douillard:

back into your cells on a regular basis. And they

John Douillard:

start to function in a more coherent versus

John Douillard:

incoherent, you know, ultra weak photon emission

John Douillard:

way out of your DNA. And, and that's why studies

John Douillard:

upon studies upon studies show, though, that

John Douillard:

meditation or prayer or that kind of spiritual

John Douillard:

work, whatever it is, whatever religion, doesn't

John Douillard:

matter, is going to provide a level of health and

John Douillard:

longevity for us because it's dragging like a

John Douillard:

mouse, like in your computer with a mouse. It's

John Douillard:

dragging that consciousness, that coherence into

John Douillard:

the density of your physiology that lost its way.

Meredith Oke:

Oh, I love it. And as I know from my personal

Meredith Oke:

experience and from talking to a lot, a lot of

Meredith Oke:

people sort of on their individual health

Meredith Oke:

journeys, there is often a. I'll use myself as an

Meredith Oke:

example. So I had quite intense chronic fatigue

Meredith Oke:

for a while. And as I learned some of the ways

Meredith Oke:

that I was causing that and some of the habits

Meredith Oke:

that I had that was making it worse and I started

Meredith Oke:

to heal them and I started to get, get my energy

Meredith Oke:

back. My tendency was to overuse it, like getting

Meredith Oke:

like, you know, going over the limit on your

Meredith Oke:

credit card. I was so excited to have my, my

Meredith Oke:

energy credits back that I was just like, how

Meredith Oke:

much can I do? I'm just going to keep adding

Meredith Oke:

things to my life more and more to do because I'm

Meredith Oke:

so excited to have energy. And so I, by

Meredith Oke:

necessity, I'm now in a, in a place where I'm

Meredith Oke:

learning what you're saying, how to be active and

Meredith Oke:

have, and have a life where we do things,

Meredith Oke:

ideally, most of mostly things we enjoy to some

Meredith Oke:

extent, without getting lost in the doing, if

Meredith Oke:

that makes sense. And I heard, I heard a woman

Meredith Oke:

once and it stayed with me. And I feel like I've

Meredith Oke:

been like, I need someone explain this to me. And

Meredith Oke:

I feel like maybe you just did. And she, she was

Meredith Oke:

an intuitive and a healer, I think she did

Meredith Oke:

distance healing as well and, you know, very

Meredith Oke:

psychic. And she could see all kinds of things.

Meredith Oke:

And someone asked her, like, does it take a lot

Meredith Oke:

of energy? And she said, the master never uses

Meredith Oke:

his own energy. And I was like, what? And I feel

Meredith Oke:

like you have helped me understand that mystery a

Meredith Oke:

little bit.

John Douillard:

Yeah, I think that's the, you know, the do less,

John Douillard:

accomplish more. The do nothing, accomplish

John Douillard:

everything. And when you can now see that if you

John Douillard:

actually are, you know, functioning from that

John Douillard:

field and you're, you know, functioning from. We

John Douillard:

all function from that field. We just don't know

John Douillard:

it. But if you start to become aware of the fact

John Douillard:

that you're functioning from that field, field,

John Douillard:

you're not the doer of the activity. Just like

John Douillard:

you said, you're not doing it with your energy.

John Douillard:

It's, you know, we don't have ownership of that.

John Douillard:

You know, it's the field that's providing and

John Douillard:

provoking everything. You know, I thought maybe

John Douillard:

it'd be a good idea to teach folks something that

John Douillard:

I learned. I call it the one minute meditation.

John Douillard:

Because what I noticed was that when I was in

John Douillard:

that field and I'm like, in the flow, it's like,

John Douillard:

great. And then there started to become sort of

John Douillard:

this like, distinct difference between being okay

John Douillard:

and being like, stressed, you know. And I think a

John Douillard:

lot of people probably feel that, like you're

John Douillard:

just cruising along and all of a sudden, ah,

John Douillard:

you're, you're spin out and you're. Now you're

John Douillard:

not yourself. So there's really interesting

John Douillard:

research about this one minute meditation. And

John Douillard:

it's using a breathing technique called the

John Douillard:

bellows breath. I'll teach it to you in a book.

John Douillard:

People do it. We can do it together. It's just a

John Douillard:

minute. And the studies show that it actually

John Douillard:

activates what's called gamma brainwave activity,

John Douillard:

which is the kind of the higher frequency

John Douillard:

brainwave. It's a brainwave that's been shown for

John Douillard:

universal love and higher states of

John Douillard:

consciousness. So it's kind of cool. And it

John Douillard:

provokes a, a, a, it's a stimulating breathing

John Douillard:

technique. But then it gives you about 10 minutes

John Douillard:

of parasympathetic dominance after that, which

John Douillard:

means they rest, rebuild and rejuvenative state.

John Douillard:

So what we did in our study, when we did the nose

John Douillard:

breathing versus mouth breathing, we noticed that

John Douillard:

when you breathe through your mouth, fight or

John Douillard:

flight nervous system goes up and your

John Douillard:

parasympathetic rest and rejuvenation goes down

John Douillard:

to zero, which means you're in a full fight or

John Douillard:

flight state. You know, break your body down to

John Douillard:

build yourself up. It's an emergency response.

John Douillard:

You're going to have to recover from that. It's

John Douillard:

an emergency degenerative experience. And most of

John Douillard:

us live here and we exercise, we definitely live

John Douillard:

here. That's the way we work. We stress and the

John Douillard:

body recovers. And then you can stress more, you

John Douillard:

recover stress more. And that's what I do with

John Douillard:

athletes. When you're 20, you know, 18 to maybe

John Douillard:

30 if you're lucky, you can stress and recover

John Douillard:

and keep getting better and break world records.

John Douillard:

But then at some point you're limited by how much

John Douillard:

stress you can endure. And then they take that

John Douillard:

kid and they send him off somewhere and they

John Douillard:

bring in a new young kid and they break records

John Douillard:

there. That had nothing to do with the, with the

John Douillard:

development of full human potential for the long

John Douillard:

haul. It was squeeze out as much performance that

John Douillard:

we want in this culture, but nothing to do with

John Douillard:

what we actually can do as a human being. So the

John Douillard:

idea is that when we did with our nose breathing

John Douillard:

exercises was that the sympathetic, sympathetic

John Douillard:

system did not go to 100%, it only went up 50%.

John Douillard:

And the parasympathetic didn't go to zero like it

John Douillard:

does with regular exercise, it only went down by

John Douillard:

50%. So we had and proved that the two opposite

John Douillard:

nervous systems were literally coexisting when we

John Douillard:

are engaged in a proper state. So how do we get

John Douillard:

that state? So it's okay, in this one minute

John Douillard:

meditation to stimulate you, create a little

John Douillard:

sympathetic activation, which flips the brain

John Douillard:

into a gamma brainwave activity, which is that

John Douillard:

universal love, high state consciousness

John Douillard:

brainwave. But then it actually gives you about

John Douillard:

15, 10 to 15 minutes of parasympathetic

John Douillard:

activation, which means rest, rebuild,

John Douillard:

rejuvenate. And so that's the thing that I would

John Douillard:

use and teach my patients over the many years to

John Douillard:

use to kind of reset that internal experience of

John Douillard:

calm. And you can do it in your car. It's a

John Douillard:

minute. Like it doesn't take any longer. And my

John Douillard:

wife, when I first developed this, she said,

John Douillard:

john, you're crazy. You can't. The one minute

John Douillard:

meditation, it's not like it's too American, you

John Douillard:

know, you can't do that. I was like, but it

John Douillard:

works. And people need a quick reset, you know,

John Douillard:

so it's really simple. It's a nose breathing,

John Douillard:

bellows breath. It's called bus streak. I have an

John Douillard:

article on my website, a life spread called one

John Douillard:

minute meditation. If you want more information

John Douillard:

and, and so you just breathe through your nose

John Douillard:

like this. Like if you were taking a Bellows and

John Douillard:

bellows in and bellowing out like that. So you do

John Douillard:

30 of those breaths. If you feel dizzy, breathe a

John Douillard:

little less intense. If you feel okay, breathe

John Douillard:

more intense. If you feel a little dizzy, stop.

John Douillard:

There's no reason for any discomfort, but you'll

John Douillard:

work up to very quickly to do 30 pretty powerful

John Douillard:

bellows breaths. And then you do 30 seconds of

John Douillard:

being still. Close your eyes and be still. Let's

John Douillard:

all do it together. Everybody listening can sit

John Douillard:

up and we can do it. We'll do 30 of these breaths

John Douillard:

against your whole rib cage in, belly in, belly

John Douillard:

out, ribcage in, rib cage out. It's a big, deep

John Douillard:

breath. Best you can. So here we go.

Meredith Oke:

Okay.

John Douillard:

Sa. And stop. Be perfectly still. Eyes closed.

John Douillard:

You might notice that there's not a lot of

John Douillard:

thinking going on here. Just be with that silence

John Douillard:

and slowly open your eyes.

Meredith Oke:

Oh, wow. That's crazy. I felt. Yeah. Like you

Meredith Oke:

were calling it runner's high. Like that just

Meredith Oke:

sense of almost elation or just after the 30

Meredith Oke:

seconds of doing that breath.

John Douillard:

Like it's a really quick and easy reset, which

John Douillard:

is, you know, can do anytime in your car before

John Douillard:

you go, in your office, house, before you. While

John Douillard:

you're waiting for your kids to pick them up from

John Douillard:

school or soccer. It's really easy.

Meredith Oke:

Yeah. You know, I love that I've been. I was

Meredith Oke:

reading in some of my coaching material like

Meredith Oke:

that, the importance of those transition moments

Meredith Oke:

in our day where it's like I'm on the phone and,

Meredith Oke:

you know, I'm at work and it's. And then you,

Meredith Oke:

like, go straight into the house and it. Or you

Meredith Oke:

working with a client, then you go straight into

Meredith Oke:

a social alert. And it was sort of. And the. The

Meredith Oke:

coaching was to acknowledge those transition

Meredith Oke:

moments consciously. And so this is a beautiful

Meredith Oke:

practice to mark those. Those transition moments.

Meredith Oke:

And then they're naturally built into our. Into

Meredith Oke:

the day to. I love that remind. Like, where.

Meredith Oke:

Where am I. What am I doing here? What am I doing

Meredith Oke:

next? What's my intention with the next. With

Meredith Oke:

this next moment of my day?

John Douillard:

Yeah. Yeah. There's a. There's an aspect of the

John Douillard:

Vedic literature called donner ved, and if you do

John Douillard:

yoga, it's called donner asana. Is the. The bow

John Douillard:

asana, like a. Like a bow. And there's a. There's

John Douillard:

a whole kind of Vedic science around archery and.

John Douillard:

Because a real metaphor for. For this. Because

John Douillard:

when you pull back the bow, if you're moving the

John Douillard:

bow string, you know, and then you let it go,

John Douillard:

you're never going to find the arrow, probably.

John Douillard:

But if you're pulling back the bowstring and your

John Douillard:

mind isn't going like this and you're holding it

John Douillard:

really still, and then you take action from that

John Douillard:

silence. It's a transformational shot. It's a

John Douillard:

karmic moving shot. Its ability to. It's actually

John Douillard:

called established being and perform action. And

John Douillard:

this is a really important concept. And in fact,

John Douillard:

one of the most important concepts of all. This

John Douillard:

whole idea of Vedic understanding of Ayurveda was

John Douillard:

that you must take action from the field, from

John Douillard:

the place of consciousness, from the place of

John Douillard:

silence. And a lot of us, you know, do a stress

John Douillard:

reduction technique, meditate, and then we go

John Douillard:

lie, cheat and steal and do whatever we do in our

John Douillard:

life. You know what I mean?

Meredith Oke:

Like, we're like, why am I so stressed?

John Douillard:

Yeah. The idea is to take that science with you.

John Douillard:

And that's what these tools are all about. Waking

John Douillard:

up at the sunrise and being there. Going for a

John Douillard:

walk in the woods and, you know, and just being

John Douillard:

mindful as you walk and breathing long, slow and

John Douillard:

deep and being aware of the silence and the

John Douillard:

activity of a forest and all of that that's

John Douillard:

happening. It's mind boggling. But. But yes,

John Douillard:

that's the key is to create that silence and then

John Douillard:

start to. With this one minute meditation, you

John Douillard:

create that calm. I feel a little more calm now.

John Douillard:

Now I can go into my house and carry that with me

John Douillard:

and deal with, you know, my kids and I gotta do.

John Douillard:

After a long day at work, I now have to help my

John Douillard:

kids with algebra, you know, which is never easy,

John Douillard:

right? Or whatever. We had six kids, so that was

John Douillard:

like my job. I would go to school, work all day,

John Douillard:

come back, and I would have to do homework. You

John Douillard:

were the homework tutor. But that one minute

John Douillard:

meditation in the garage before I went in there

John Douillard:

helped make me just reset and give me that little

John Douillard:

bit of energy to go out there and do it from that

John Douillard:

loving, giving place. And then once you get into

John Douillard:

that loving, giving stream, you know, it's that

John Douillard:

runner's high. You're back in the zone.

Meredith Oke:

Yes. And we're so blessed. I mean, we're just so,

Meredith Oke:

so blessed. So many of us. And we are pulled out

Meredith Oke:

of it so quickly by, you know, forces that want

Meredith Oke:

to disconnect us from that. So this was just

Meredith Oke:

extraordinary. I would love to have you back

Meredith Oke:

again sometime. I feel like we just started.

Meredith Oke:

There's so many more questions that I have. So

Meredith Oke:

thank you for being here and please, please let

Meredith Oke:

everyone know how to find you. Where, where's the

Meredith Oke:

best Place to go.

John Douillard:

Yeah, well, my website is lifespa.com l I f e s p

John Douillard:

a dot com and that's where like I said, I started

John Douillard:

taking all the ancient wisdom and putting it

John Douillard:

together with modern Science. We have 1500

John Douillard:

articles, all them for free, where you can type

John Douillard:

in your health concern and read up on how you can

John Douillard:

take some ancient wisdom medical practices along

John Douillard:

with the science and employ them into your life

John Douillard:

to actually do some self healing and that all

John Douillard:

that knowledge for free. Our business model has

John Douillard:

always been put the knowledge out for free

John Douillard:

somehow we'll pay the bills, the business will

John Douillard:

come. So that's what we do at LifeSpa. It's all

John Douillard:

for free. There's also a newsletter that you can

John Douillard:

subscribe to. You get information. We put that

John Douillard:

out three times a week. All about ancient wisdom,

John Douillard:

modern science. Also I have an ayurvedic store

John Douillard:

where I've been formulating ayurvedic herbs for

John Douillard:

myself or my company and other companies for

John Douillard:

many, many decades now. And that's@thelifespa.com

John Douillard:

as well. You can go to the store, check out all

John Douillard:

of our whole organic or ayurvedic herbs which

John Douillard:

really importantly have the natural microbiome

John Douillard:

with them. Most of the herbs and supplements

John Douillard:

people take are sterile. People don't realize

John Douillard:

how, how dead they are. But we have a microbial

John Douillard:

diversity crisis in our culture, in humanity, and

John Douillard:

it's an extinction event. So how we can actually

John Douillard:

employ more of the natural bugs that exist on

John Douillard:

plants into our body is having a more diverse

John Douillard:

amount of herbal supplements that are whole with

John Douillard:

all the natural bugs, organic, well tested that

John Douillard:

you can take to have to act as support inoculants

John Douillard:

for the right bugs for the right season. So we

John Douillard:

talk about eating seasonally and or and we give

John Douillard:

you grocery lists for winter, summer and spring.

John Douillard:

So you don't need to think should I be a vegan

John Douillard:

for I be this or be that. All you need to do is

John Douillard:

eat what nature provides in the wheat right

John Douillard:

season. So take the winter grocery list which is

John Douillard:

or the summer one now, or circle the foods on

John Douillard:

there that you like and eat more of them. That's

John Douillard:

it. And the ones with the asterisks are the

John Douillard:

superfoods for that season. The idea is you just

John Douillard:

want to get medicinal doses of the right food for

John Douillard:

the right season to get the right bugs in your

John Douillard:

gut to give you the benefits of the, of the

John Douillard:

protection that the seasonal microbes provide for

John Douillard:

us. We need to connect our body with circadian

John Douillard:

rhythms and it's just simple stuff like that and

John Douillard:

all those grocery lists are all for free and of

John Douillard:

course I'm on all the social channels as well.

John Douillard:

Usually I do like one minute shorts to kind of

John Douillard:

just talk about a topic that I've written much

John Douillard:

more deeply in than a long form video in with all

John Douillard:

the references and science that's there as well.

John Douillard:

So you can always bet and bank on the fact that

John Douillard:

we're going to give you ancient knowledge with

John Douillard:

the science so you can feel safe. That is

John Douillard:

something that I feel a great place to start your

John Douillard:

journey when you're looking for some health

John Douillard:

support.

Meredith Oke:

Thank you. And that sound those are those are

Meredith Oke:

beautiful resources and I know this this crowd is

Meredith Oke:

really into seasonal eating so that thank you for

Meredith Oke:

doing that. You can check out John's meal plans

Meredith Oke:

and subscribe to his newsletter. And John I look

Meredith Oke:

I look forward to continuing this conversation

Meredith Oke:

another time.

John Douillard:

Thank you so much that'd be wonderful. Love to be.
