What part of the world are you in today?

I'm in Iowa.

Oh, sounds like fun.

How's the weather in Iowa today?

Not too bad.

It's in the upper 70s, low 80s I think.

Tell me about marketing.

What got you ticking to stay so long as you have in marketing?

I'm actually in sales now.

I haven't done a whole lot of marketing other than what I'm doing with my non-profit.

Tell me more about the non-profit please.

Yeah, so my non-profit is called Service Ministries, and in that I come alongside and

I help churches and other non-profits improve their communication efforts and their back-end

efforts, if you will, by doing a lot of different things such as social media management,

web design, graphic design, photography, development of different communication

efforts that they might need, just a wide gamut of things.

The idea is we come alongside and we help take some of the stressors that you might have as a non-profit owner or a non-profit executive and let you focus on what you need to focus on, which is building your ministry and helping the people that your ministry impacts.

So that's kind of where we come in and we help people out with that.

When you say you represent sales, are you selling the service that you offer or you're helping non-profits understand how to sell their service?

Yeah, I know sales is my full-time job, but my non-profit unfortunately is not my full-time job at the moment.

So my full-time job is doing sales and freight or trucking industry.

I work for a company and we move freight throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

Is that fun?

Do you have fun there?

It's different than anything that I've ever done.

It's not in my wheelhouse per se, but it is a lot of fun.

So how does one go from photography and branding to sales to then the non-profit?

Like paint the picture for me of how we actually got here.

I wish I knew the full answer to that because I haven't figured it out myself yet.

You know, it was April of last year, April 2025, I found myself on the unemployment line again for the second time in two years.

And for nine months, I prayed, God, you know, give me the job that you want me to have.

I don't know what that is.

I applied for job after job after job that I felt was in line with where I felt like he wanted me to go.

And time after time after time, I just was told not yet.

You know, the job was for one reason or another would fall through.

And so I just kept saying, okay, God, you know, what is it that you want me to have?

You know, if it's your will, open this job's door, if not, close it.

And he took that literal.

And so it took me nine months and this is the door that he opened for me.

So I don't know, I haven't figured out exactly what it is that I'm supposed to learn from this job that's going to prepare me for ultimately where I feel he's leading me.

But I'm giving it my best while I'm there.

And we'll just see what God does with it.

Has life been similar in occurrences where there's just situations God put you in that you only realize in hindsight, or that's what that was for?

Yeah, you know, there, I think you always have seasons like that, where you have something going on, and you don't know quite what it's for.

And you're, you know, I know I have, and then, you know, it comes back around and you're like, that's what that skill was supposed to be used for, you know.

And so that's kind of what how I approach the season right now.

Like, I don't know why I'm here.

I don't know what I'm doing.

But I have no doubt that God has me in this position for a reason to learn something specific.

And so every day I go to work, every day I keep put my head down, you know, and just do what I can do to make the most of the time I'm there.

I don't know if that's going to be two weeks.

I don't know if that's going to be 50 years.

Like, I don't know how long God is going to have me there.

But while I'm there, I'm going to make the most of it and glorify God as best as I can in everything that I do.

And kind of wait and just let the rest play out.

Is this where the second book title came from?

The second book came from my time in unemployment.

So for the nine months that I was unemployed, one of the common things that I kept hearing time and time again from friends and other people was just, I don't know how you're doing this.

I don't know how your faith is as strong as it is.

I don't know how you're able to be as calm as you are, having been unemployed for nine months.

Like, you don't seem stressed at all.

And over the years, I had a lot of examples of how to trust God in growing up in my faith and the example that my parents set.

So my second book, When Faith Meets Fire, is all about, you know, some of that, some of my journey growing up and some of the things that I did see and kind of how my faith got to where it's at.

And I help kind of walk people through that and help them see that, you know what, your faith can be just like that.

And so that's kind of where that book comes from.

If you could name the emotion of, well, being in the nine months off and then actually getting the job, what was the emotions of not being employed and then finally getting to, well, hey, you're hired?

You know, that nine months, I would say, it was a roller coaster of emotions, if I'm being honest.

I don't know that there's one that I can pinpoint.

You know, there were days where it was a little stressful because in the middle of being unemployed, I also published my first book and started my own podcast.

And both of those things take money and I'm unemployed.

And so it was a complete step of faith in doing what I felt God was telling me to do.

And God met me in those and provided for each of those.

But so there was a lot of trust.

There was a lot of unsureness and a lot of probably a little bit, I know, some worry in there.

You know, because I'm, as much as I'd love to say I'm perfect, you know, I'm still human.

And I had nine months of unemployment and that's a long time to go without an income coming in of any kind of, you know, regular.

But God, month after month, God provided for my bills.

And so that nine months was kind of a big roller coaster of emotions.

As far as the emotions of when I got the job, that was definitely a roller coaster of emotions as well because I was a little nervous and a little scared because I was going into an industry that I knew nothing about doing sales, which I had never formally done before.

So here I am, I'm starting in a new industry and a new role doing things that I had never done before.

And I was going to be expected to perform.

So that took a little bit of adjustment.

But at the same time, there's a lot of excitement because I could see God's hand in it all.

And so I'm like, okay, like, God, whatever you have going for me, I'm on board.

Like, just give me the, give me favor, you know, give me the wisdom to be able to do what it is that you need me to do to, you know, fulfill the purpose of while I'm here.

And he's done it month after month as I've been in this job.

And so there's a lot of excitement still about what he's going to do and how he's how he's going to use me during whatever time I have left in this position.

Are you married and do you have children?

I am divorced, but I do have four kids.

How are they reacting to this evolution of their father?

A little bit of probably uncertainty still there.

You know, because when dad doesn't have a job, there's some uncertainty there for them too, because now dad doesn't have the money to be able to do some of the fun things that I like to do with them.

At the same time, it's been awesome because I've been able to use this season to be able to help them to see, you know, that God still provides.

Some of the ways that he provided for me growing up, I saw him provide for my kids during this season of transition and uncertainty.

So it's been really rewarding to be able to kind of see that continue and to help them be able to see, look, you know, this is what happened to me when I was growing up.

And now here's God doing it again and providing for you guys.

And so that was really a lot of fun to kind of see happen.

Would you say the blueprint of becoming aligned with exactly what happened in your life, where you entered a state of becoming and then eventually are where you are today?

Yeah, the blueprint of becoming is definitely aligned with where I am today.

You know, in the first couple of chapters of my book, The Blueprint of Becoming, I talk a lot about where I came from, that for those first couple of chapters are my personal testimony.

And so you're able to kind of see some of the things that I did growing up, some of which I kind of expand on a little bit more in my second book.

But through that book, I've been able to, I'm able to kind of help you see, oh, this is where he came from.

This is what he's talking about.

And so that's a lot of fun to kind of see now, play now.

What's a message you'd leave for future Wesley?

Yeah, you know, the message that I leave people with and I leave for myself every day is, you know, a lot of things happen in your life that you don't have control over.

And there's things that happen in your life that you do have control over.

But just because that one thing happens, that you are not defined by it.

You are not defined by the things that you've said, the things that you've done, the things that other people have said about you or done to you.

You are only defined by who you say you are in that moment.

And more importantly, who God says that you are.

And so let that be your defining thing, not the thing that's been done to you or the thing that you've done.
