Steph:

This is the Dwelling Place from Entrusted Ministries.

2

:

I'm Stephanie Hickox.

3

:

. And today we're looking

at the end of Moses' life.

4

:

We will read the worship songs.

5

:

The Holy Spirit inspired him to write,

6

:

And then I'll pose a question

that's been on my heart.

7

:

For the last several books we've

studied, and then I'll pray one

8

:

of my favorite psalms over you

9

:

In chapter 32,

10

:

we read Moses's song that God

asked him to write in 31 19.

11

:

This is going to be passed down

12

:

through the generations reminding

Israel of God's faithfulness

13

:

warning them from turning away.

14

:

And 32, 4.

15

:

The rack.

16

:

His work is perfect for all his ways

are justice, a God of faithfulness and

17

:

without inequity, just and upright as he

18

:

This God.

19

:

is absolutely set apart

20

:

from the fickle, pretend God said

the other nation served that we're

21

:

ever changing due to their emotions,

22

:

but our God is unchanging in

the most perfect, wonderful way.

23

:

His tenderness is displayed

in verses 10 and 11.

24

:

He found him in a desert land and

in the howling waste of the

25

:

wilderness, he encircled him.

26

:

He cared for him.

27

:

He kept him as the apple of his

eye, like an eagle that stirs

28

:

up its nest that flutters over.

29

:

Its young.

30

:

Spreading out its wings, catching

them, bearing them on its pins.

31

:

The Lord alone guided him.

32

:

No foreign God was with him.

33

:

He made him ride on the high places of

the land and he ate the produce of the

34

:

field and he suckled him with honey out

of the rock an oil out of the flinty rock

35

:

the phrase, the apple of his

eye is literally translated

36

:

the little man of his eye,

37

:

And then Moses describes the way

that a Mother Eagle pushes her young

38

:

out of the nest watches to see if

they're ready for a successful flight.

39

:

And if they aren't and they start to

fall, she swoops under them, spreading

40

:

out her wings, carrying the eagle until

another time when it can fly on its own.

41

:

This is how God cares for us.

42

:

Not only did he provide physical

care and protection, but he fed them.

43

:

And in some of these cracks

in the cliffs and in the rocky

44

:

places, honeycombs often formed.

45

:

And olive trees sometimes even grew

46

:

And that's what that refers to.

47

:

The honey from the rock and

the oil from the Flinty Rock.

48

:

In 32 17, there's a powerful rebuke.

49

:

They sacrificed to demons

that were no gods, to gods.

50

:

They had never known to new gods

that had come recently, whom

51

:

your fathers had never dreaded.

52

:

You were unmindful of the rock

that bore you and you forgot

53

:

the God who gave you birth.

54

:

Are you surprised That the

word demon is mentioned?

55

:

That's exactly what these fake gods are,

and any semblance of power that they had

56

:

came from Satan and his fallen angels.

57

:

Afterwards, in verse 45, and when Moses

had finished speaking all these words

58

:

to all Israel, he said to them, take

to heart all the words by which I'm

59

:

warning you today that you may command

them to your children, that they may be

60

:

careful to do all the words of this law.

61

:

For it is no empty word

for you but your very life.

62

:

And by this word, you shall live

long in the land that you are

63

:

going over the Jordan to possess.

64

:

I just love that verse.

65

:

This is your very life.

66

:

When we think about our role as

parents, knowing that they understand.

67

:

Their sin, nature, and how Jesus Christ is

the only one that can solve that for them.

68

:

This is our very life that

we teach this to them.

69

:

though they may not have understood

everything about the coming Messiah,

70

:

they were pointed to the God who is

the same yesterday, today, and forever

71

:

In 33 1, a new phrase is introduced

as it calls Moses, the man of God.

72

:

We will see this about 70 more times

in the Old Testament, and it usually

73

:

refers to a prophet or someone

that delivers a message from God.

74

:

Next Moses gives a blessing to each of

the 12 tribes, and I'm sure you won't

75

:

be surprised That I wanna highlight

the blessing of Benjamin, the

76

:

beloved of the Lord dwells in safety.

77

:

The high God surrounds him all day

long and dwells between his shoulders.

78

:

There's a little debate about what between

his shoulders means, but your heart is

79

:

between your shoulders, and perhaps the

Lord is just saying, you're gonna dwell

80

:

with me and I'm gonna be with your heart.

81

:

And these blessings conclude.

82

:

There is none like God O Je run who

rides through the heavens to your

83

:

help through the skies in his majesty.

84

:

The eternal God is your dwelling place,

and underneath are the everlasting arms.

85

:

Any thrust out the enemy

before you and said, destroy?

86

:

So Israel lived in safety.

87

:

Jacob lived alone in a land of grain

and wine whose heavens dropped down dew.

88

:

Happy are you O Israel who was like you?

89

:

A people saved by the Lord, the shield of

your help and the sword of your triumph.

90

:

Your enemy shall come fawning to you

and you shall tread upon their backs.

91

:

The Warrior image is used to

portray God in all of his power,

92

:

That he was, their protection and

their victory and their dwelling place.

93

:

and finally, Moses had delivered all of

the words that the Lord had asked of him.

94

:

And in 34, God takes him.

95

:

To Mount Nebo.

96

:

And the Lord said to him, this

is the land of which I swore to

97

:

Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

98

:

I will give it to your offspring.

99

:

I have let you see it with your eyes,

but you shall not go over there.

100

:

So Moses, the servant of the Lord,

died there in the land of Moab,

101

:

according to the word of the Lord,

and he buried him in the valley in

102

:

the land of Moab opposite Beth Peor.

103

:

But no one knows the place

of his burial to this day.

104

:

Moses was 120 years old when he died.

105

:

His eye was un dimmed and his vigor

unabated, and the people of Israel wept

106

:

for Moses in the plains of Moab 30 days.

107

:

Then the days of weeping and

mourning for Moses were ended.

108

:

And Joshua, the son of none, was

full of the spirit of wisdom for

109

:

Moses had laid his hands on him.

110

:

So the people of Israel obeyed him and

did as the Lord had commanded Moses.

111

:

And there has not arisen a prophet

since in Israel like Moses, whom the

112

:

Lord knew face to face none like him.

113

:

For all the signs and the wonders that the

Lord sent him to do in the land of Egypt

114

:

to Pharaoh and to all his servants and

to all his land, and for all the mighty

115

:

power and all the great deeds of terror

that Moses did in the sight of all Israel.

116

:

At the end of his life, Moses

had all of his faculties.

117

:

His vision was intact and he

still had plenty of energy, God

118

:

had completely sustained him.

119

:

Even though he's prohibited from entering

the Promised Land, God dwelt with him and

120

:

gave him many blessings on this earth.

121

:

And as I mentioned before, he still

got to enter the Promised Land.

122

:

Add the Transfiguration with Jesus Christ.

123

:

And the Lord himself buried Moses.

124

:

Some speculate that God buried him so

that the Israelites be tempted to make

125

:

a shrine out of his resting place.

126

:

And it's fascinating to read in the

New Testament in the book of Jude,

127

:

verse nine says, but when the Archangel

Michael contending with the devil was

128

:

disputing about the body of Jesus, he did

not presume to pronounce a blasphemous

129

:

judgment, but said the Lord rebuke you

130

:

The angel, Michael and the devil

were fighting over Moses' body,

131

:

The Israelites faithfully mourn Moses'

life and then they look forward to a new

132

:

season of blessing in the Promised Land.

133

:

We know what's gonna happen,

but we can still delight in the

134

:

chapters of victory that are set

before us in the book of Joshua.

135

:

And before we conclude Moses's story.

136

:

I just have to ask, where are

Moses' kids throughout this book?

137

:

He's talked about teaching your children.

138

:

About God's faithfulness

139

:

Speaker 14: over and

140

:

Steph: over and over, and I think it's

fascinating that we don't specifically

141

:

hear about what happened to his kids.

142

:

Yes, they're mentioned in

a genealogy here or there,

143

:

but I've tried to search out the

answer to this and I can't find much.

144

:

I guess if I had to reason through it.

145

:

He was 40 when he left Egypt, and then

he went to Midian and married Zipporah.

146

:

We know he had two sons before God called

him in the burning bush, we know he was

147

:

in Midn for 40 years before that moment.

148

:

And then we have that interesting

circumcision story that happened in Exodus

149

:

four with one of his sons, but we don't

know how old his kids were at that point.

150

:

and Jethro brought them back to Moses

once they were in the wilderness.

151

:

I did Moses think they were

too young to see everything?

152

:

Were they old enough that they

just wanted to stay at home?

153

:

I don't know, but I'm very aware that

in almost every episode I'm encouraging

154

:

you to be faithful with your kids.

155

:

But I also wanna say, this isn't

the only job you have in life.

156

:

As beautiful and influential

as motherhood can be.

157

:

It's not your only identity, your

first and foremost, a servant of the

158

:

savior, and a daughter of the king.

159

:

And though we strive to serve him

faithfully in the season while

160

:

our kids are in our home, God

has other assignments for you.

161

:

And we can delight that seasons will

come and go and change with our families,

162

:

but may our lives always be marked

by their pursuit and presence.

163

:

Of the Lord.

164

:

Let me pray.

165

:

Psalm 91 over you.

166

:

Now, this is one of my very

favorite Psalms and these are the

167

:

life verses of one of my kids.

168

:

The level of protection and

blessing that this represents,

169

:

some of it is left to be fulfilled.

170

:

When Jesus Christ rules over all,

171

:

but whenever I'm praying for protection,

this is the Psalm that I turn to.

172

:

Heavenly Father, we thank you that we

can dwell in the shelter of the most high

173

:

and abide in the shadow of the Almighty.

174

:

We say to you, Lord, you are

our refuge and our fortress,

175

:

our God in whom we trust.

176

:

We know you can deliver us from the

snare of the fowler and from the

177

:

deadly pestilence, and that you

cover us with your opinions and

178

:

under your wings we can find refuge.

179

:

Your faithfulness is a

shield and a buckler.

180

:

We do not need to fear the terror of the

day, nor the arrow that flies by night.

181

:

Nor the pestilence that stalks

and darkness, nor the destruction

182

:

that wastes at noon day,

183

:

A thousand may fall at our side,

10,000 at our right hand, But your

184

:

protection can prevent it from coming

near us and allow us to only look

185

:

and see the recompense of the wicked.

186

:

Help us to make you our dwelling place

most high God, who is our refuge, so

187

:

that evil would not be allowed to

befall us or plagues come near our tent.

188

:

Command your angels concerning us to

guard us in all our ways that they

189

:

would bear us up on their hands, lest

we strike our foot against a stone.

190

:

Help us to tread on the lion and the

adder, the young lion and the serpent.

191

:

And the dangers that are

present in our lives.

192

:

Help us to hold fast to

you in love and deliver us.

193

:

Protect us because we know your name.

194

:

When we call to you, answer us.

195

:

Be with us in trouble.

196

:

Rescue us, honor us and satisfy us with

long life and show us your salvation.

197

:

We thank you for all the blessings you

have for us on this Earth, Lord, and we

198

:

look forward to what will be fulfilled

in eternity for us and our families.

199

:

In the name of Jesus Christ,

the Messiah, we pray.

200

:

Amen.
