Have you ever lied… about reading your Bible?

One pastor asked his congregation to read Hebrews 14. The next week, he asked who did it—half the room raised their hands.

There’s just one problem… Hebrews 14 doesn’t exist.

We've lied about big things, small things, and some things that felt necessary in the moment. But lying doesn’t free us. It traps us. And trying to manage the cover-up? That’s a full-time job in itself.

 Can I call you a liar? I will just admit right here, right now that I've lied and I've lied more than once. Not proud of it. Not proud of it. Anytime I do it, there are probably times I'm doing it. I don't even realize I'm doing it. For example, how many times have I blamed traffic for the reason I'm late to be somewhere?

It's nothing to do with traffic. There's nothing wrong with the traffic. There's nothing wrong with me knowing how to get out the door on time. That's why I am late. Liars. We're liars because we got this thing called sin. A pastor once asked his congregation one Sunday morning, said, go home, read Hebrews 14 during the week, because next Sunday, that's what we're gonna be talking about.

The following Sunday. He asked his congregation, alright, let me see a show of hands. Who did their homework? Raise your hands. Who read Hebrews 14? Half the congregation? Raise their hands. There's one problem. There's, uh, there is no Hebrews 14. Hebrews is Chapter 1 through Chapter 13. Liars about reading the Bible!

I can't judge these people though, because who knows? I probably would've had my hand up too, and that's the a hard truth we have to face. Adam and Eve did it, and it's our natural tendency. Just to cover up and hide the truth. But here's the good news. The good news of the Bible, if we're actually reading the Bible, we do not have to participate in the coverup anymore.

We are free of that if we want to be.
